El sumo sacerdote es escogido de entre los hombres para representarlos ante Dios y para ofrecer ofrendas y sacrificios por los pecados.
PORQUE todo pontífice, tomado de entre los hombres, es constituído á favor de los hombres en lo que á Dios toca, para que ofrezca presentes y sacrificios por los pecados:
For every high priest taken from among men is ordained for men in things pertaining to God, that he may offer both gifts and sacrifices for sins:
For every high priest, being taken from among men, is appointed for men in things pertaining to God, that he may offer both gifts and sacrifices for sins.
Y lo hace tanto por los pecados del pueblo como por los suyos propios, ya que como ser humano tiene muchas debilidades. Y por eso mismo, puede ser comprensivo con quienes son ignorantes y andan extraviados.
Que se pueda compadecer de los ignorantes y extraviados, pues que él también está rodeado de flaqueza;
Who can have compassion on the ignorant, and on them that are out of the way; for that he himself also is compassed with infirmity.
The high priest can deal gently with those who are ignorant and going astray, because he himself is also surrounded with weakness.

Y por causa de ella debe, como por sí mismo, así también por el pueblo, ofrecer por los pecados.
And by reason hereof he ought, as for the people, so also for himself, to offer for sins.
Because of this, he must offer sacrifices for sins for the people, as well as for himself.
Nadie puede hacerse sumo sacerdote por su propia cuenta. Al sumo sacerdote lo llama Dios, como en el caso de Aarón.
Ni nadie toma para sí la honra, sino el que es llamado de Dios, como Aarón.
And no man taketh this honour unto himself, but he that is called of God, as was Aaron.
Nobody takes this honor on himself, but he is called by God, just like Aaron was.
Ni siquiera Cristo eligió él mismo ser sumo sacerdote, sino que Dios lo eligió y le dio ese honor cuando dijo: «Tú eres Hijo mío, yo te he engendrado hoy».
Así también Cristo no se glorificó á sí mismo haciéndose Pontífice, mas el que le dijo: Tú eres mi Hijo, yo te he engendrado hoy;
So also Christ glorified not himself to be made an high priest; but he that said unto him, Thou art my Son, to day have I begotten thee.
So also Christ didn’t glorify himself to be made a high priest, but it was he who said to him, “You are my Son. Today I have become your father.”
Y en otra ocasión le dijo: «Tú eres sacerdote eterno, de la misma clase de Melquisedec».
Como también dice en otro lugar: Tú eres sacerdote eternamente, según el orden de Melchîsedec.
As he saith also in another place, Thou art a priest for ever after the order of Melchisedec.

Cuando Cristo estaba en la tierra, con voz fuerte y muchas lágrimas ofreció ruegos y súplicas a Dios, quien podía librarlo de la muerte. Y Dios escuchó sus oraciones en virtud de su ferviente deseo de obedecer a Dios.
El cual en los días de su carne, ofreciendo ruegos y súplicas con gran clamor y lágrimas al que le podía librar de la muerte, fué oído por su reverencial miedo.
Who in the days of his flesh, when he had offered up prayers and supplications with strong crying and tears unto him that was able to save him from death, and was heard in that he feared;
He, in the days of his flesh, having offered up prayers and petitions with strong crying and tears to him who was able to save him from death, and having been heard for his godly fear,
¡Aun Jesús, siendo Hijo de Dios, tuvo que aprender por medio del sufrimiento lo que es la obediencia!
Y aunque era Hijo, por lo que padeció aprendió la obediencia;
Though he were a Son, yet learned he obedience by the things which he suffered;
though he was a Son, yet learned obedience by the things which he suffered.
Y habiendo sido perfeccionado de esa manera, llegó a ser el autor de la salvación eterna de todos los que lo obedecen.
Y consumado, vino á ser causa de eterna salud á todos los que le obedecen;

Y Dios lo nombró sumo sacerdote de la misma clase de Melquisedec.

Quisiera decirles mucho más sobre este asunto, pero sé que, como no quieren entender, me va a ser difícil explicarlo.
Del cual tenemos mucho que decir, y dificultoso de declarar, por cuanto sois flacos para oir.
Of whom we have many things to say, and hard to be uttered, seeing ye are dull of hearing.
About him we have many words to say, and hard to interpret, seeing you have become dull of hearing.
Después de tanto tiempo, ya debían poder enseñar a otros; sin embargo, hay necesidad de enseñarles de nuevo hasta los más sencillos principios de la Palabra de Dios. Se han debilitado tanto que, como niños, tienen que tomar sólo leche en vez de alimentos sólidos.
Porque debiendo ser ya maestros á causa del tiempo, tenéis necesidad de volver á ser enseñados cuáles sean los primeros rudimentos de las palabras de Dios; y habéis llegado á ser tales que tengáis necesidad de leche, y no de manjar sólido.
For when for the time ye ought to be teachers, ye have need that one teach you again which be the first principles of the oracles of God; and are become such as have need of milk, and not of strong meat.
For although by this time you should be teachers, you again need to have someone teach you the rudiments of the first principles of the revelations of God. You have come to need milk, and not solid food.
Esto demuestra que todavía no saben diferenciar entre el bien y el mal. ¡Todavía son ustedes como recién nacidos!
Que cualquiera que participa de la leche, es inhábil para la palabra de la justicia, porque es niño;
For every one that useth milk is unskilful in the word of righteousness: for he is a babe.
For everyone who lives on milk is not experienced in the word of righteousness, for he is a baby.
En cambio, los alimentos sólidos son para quienes ya son maduros, para quienes ya están acostumbrados a juzgar y a distinguir entre lo que es bueno y lo que es malo.
Mas la vianda firme es para los perfectos, para los que por la costumbre tienen los sentidos ejercitados en el discernimiento del bien y del mal.
But strong meat belongeth to them that are of full age, even those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil.
But solid food is for those who are full grown, who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern good and evil.
