1Así que no nos estanquemos en las enseñanzas básicas acerca de Cristo, sino progresemos a un entendimiento más maduro. No necesitamos volver una y otra vez a los conceptos sobre el arrepentimiento de lo que solíamos hacer, o sobre la fe en Dios,
2o enseñanzas acerca del bautismo, la imposición de manos, la resurrección de los muertos, y el juicio eterno.
3Avancemos en la medida que Dios nos lo permite.
4Es imposible que los que una vez comprendieron y experimentaron el don celestial de Dios—que participaron del recibimiento del Espíritu Santo,
5que habían conocido la palabra de Dios y el poder de la era que está por venir—
6y luego abandonaron por completo a Dios, vuelvan al arrepentimiento una vez más. Ellos mismos han crucificado al Hijo de Dios una y otra vez, y lo han humillado públicamente.
7La tierra que ha sido regada por la lluvia, y produce cosecha para quienes la trabajan, tiene la bendición de Dios.
8Pero la tierra que solo produce monte y espinas no sirve para nada, y está condenada. Y al final lo único que puede hacerse es quemarla.
9Pero queridos amigos, nosotros deseamos cosas mejores para ustedes, y también su salvación, aunque les hablemos así.
10Dios no hubiera sido injusto como para olvidarse de lo que ustedes han hecho y del amor que le han demostrado mediante el cuidado que han brindado a los hermanos creyentes, lo cual es algo que todavía siguen haciendo.
11Queremos que cada uno de ustedes demuestre el mismo compromiso y confianza en la esperanza de Dios, hasta que sea cumplida.
12No sean espiritualmente perezosos, sino sigan el ejemplo de los que por medio de su fe en Dios y paciencia son herederos de lo que Dios ha prometido.
13Cuando Dios le dio su promesa a Abraham, no pudo jurar por alguien superior, así que hizo un juramento consigo mismo,
14diciendo: “Sin duda alguna te bendeciré, y multiplicaré tus descendientes”.
15Y así, después de esperar pacientemente, Abraham recibió la promesa.
16Las personas juran por cosas que son superiores a ellas, y cuando tienen alguna discusión, hacen un juramento como la última palabra sobre tal asunto.
17Es por ello que Dios quería demostrar más claramente a los que heredarían la promesa, que él nunca cambiaría su decisión.
18De modo que por estas dos acciones que no pueden cambiarse, y, como Dios no puede mentir, podemos tener plena confianza en que al huir buscando seguridad, podemos aferrarnos de la esperanza que Dios nos presentó.
19Esta esperanza es nuestra ancla espiritual, es segura y confiable, y nos lleva más allá de la cortina, a la presencia de Dios.
20Allí entró Jesús en nuestro favor, porque tenía que convertirse en un sumo sacerdote conforme al orden de Melquisedec.

1POR tanto, dejando la palabra del comienzo en la doctrina de Cristo, vamos adelante á la perfección; no echando otra vez el fundamento del arrepentimiento de obras muertas, y de la fe en Dios,
2De la doctrina de bautismos, y de la imposición de manos, y de la resurrección de los muertos, y del juicio eterno.
3Y esto haremos á la verdad, si Dios lo permitiere.
4Porque es imposible que los que una vez fueron iluminados y gustaron el don celestial, y fueron hechos partícipes del Espíritu Santo,
5Y asimismo gustaron la buena palabra de Dios, y las virtudes del siglo venidero,
6Y recayeron, sean otra vez renovados para arrepentimiento, crucificando de nuevo para sí mismos al Hijo de Dios, y exponiéndole á vituperio.
7Porque la tierra que embebe el agua que muchas veces vino sobre ella, y produce hierba provechosa á aquellos de los cuales es labrada, recibe bendición de Dios:
8Mas la que produce espinas y abrojos, es reprobada, y cercana de maldición; cuyo fin será el ser abrasada.
9Pero de vosotros, oh amados, esperamos mejores cosas, y más cercanas á salud, aunque hablamos así.
10Porque Dios no es injusto para olvidar vuestra obra y el trabajo de amor que habéis mostrado á su nombre, habiendo asistido y asistiendo aún á los santos.
11Mas deseamos que cada uno de vosotros muestre la misma solicitud hasta el cabo, para cumplimiento de la esperanza:
12Que no os hagáis perezosos, mas imitadores de aquellos que por la fe y la paciencia heredan las promesas.
13Porque prometiendo Dios á Abraham, no pudiendo jurar por otro mayor, juró por sí mismo,
14Diciendo: De cierto te bendeciré bendiciendo, y multiplicando te multiplicaré.
15Y así, esperando con largura de ánimo, alcanzó la promesa.
16Porque los hombres ciertamente por el mayor que ellos juran: y el fin de todas sus controversias es el juramento para confirmación.
17Por lo cual, queriendo Dios mostrar más abundantemente á los herederos de la promesa la inmutabilidad de su consejo, interpuso juramento;
18Para que por dos cosas inmutables, en las cuales es imposible que Dios mienta, tengamos un fortísimo consuelo, los que nos acogemos á trabarnos de la esperanza propuesta:
19La cual tenemos como segura y firme ancla del alma, y que entra hasta dentro del velo;
20Donde entró por nosotros como precursor Jesús, hecho Pontífice eternalmente según el orden de Melchîsedec.

1Therefore leaving the principles of the doctrine of Christ, let us go on unto perfection; not laying again the foundation of repentance from dead works, and of faith toward God,
2Of the doctrine of baptisms, and of laying on of hands, and of resurrection of the dead, and of eternal judgment.
3And this will we do, if God permit.
4For it is impossible for those who were once enlightened, and have tasted of the heavenly gift, and were made partakers of the Holy Ghost,
5And have tasted the good word of God, and the powers of the world to come,
6If they shall fall away, to renew them again unto repentance; seeing they crucify to themselves the Son of God afresh, and put him to an open shame.
7For the earth which drinketh in the rain that cometh oft upon it, and bringeth forth herbs meet for them by whom it is dressed, receiveth blessing from God:
8But that which beareth thorns and briers is rejected, and is nigh unto cursing; whose end is to be burned.
9But, beloved, we are persuaded better things of you, and things that accompany salvation, though we thus speak.
10For God is not unrighteous to forget your work and labour of love, which ye have shewed toward his name, in that ye have ministered to the saints, and do minister.
11And we desire that every one of you do shew the same diligence to the full assurance of hope unto the end:
12That ye be not slothful, but followers of them who through faith and patience inherit the promises.
13For when God made promise to Abraham, because he could swear by no greater, he sware by himself,
14Saying, Surely blessing I will bless thee, and multiplying I will multiply thee.
15And so, after he had patiently endured, he obtained the promise.
16For men verily swear by the greater: and an oath for confirmation is to them an end of all strife.
17Where in God, willing more abundantly to shew unto the heirs of promise the immutability of his counsel, confirmed it by an oath:
18That by two immutable things, in which it was impossible for God to lie, we might have a strong consolation, who have fled for refuge to lay hold upon the hope set before us:
19Which hope we have as an anchor of the soul, both sure and stedfast, and which entereth into that within the veil;
20Whither the forerunner is for us entered, even Jesus, made an high priest for ever after the order of Melchisedec.
World English Bible
1Therefore leaving the teaching of the first principles of Christ, let’s press on to perfection—not laying again a foundation of repentance from dead works, of faith toward God,
2of the teaching of baptisms, of laying on of hands, of resurrection of the dead, and of eternal judgment.
3This will we do, if God permits.
4For concerning those who were once enlightened and tasted of the heavenly gift, and were made partakers of the Holy Spirit,
5and tasted the good word of God and the powers of the age to come,
6and then fell away, it is impossible to renew them again to repentance; seeing they crucify the Son of God for themselves again, and put him to open shame.
7For the land which has drunk the rain that comes often on it and produces a crop suitable for them for whose sake it is also tilled, receives blessing from God;
8but if it bears thorns and thistles, it is rejected and near being cursed, whose end is to be burned.
9But, beloved, we are persuaded of better things for you, and things that accompany salvation, even though we speak like this.
10For God is not unrighteous, so as to forget your work and the labor of love which you showed toward his name, in that you served the saints, and still do serve them.
11We desire that each one of you may show the same diligence to the fullness of hope even to the end,
12that you won’t be sluggish, but imitators of those who through faith and perseverance inherited the promises.
13For when God made a promise to Abraham, since he could swear by no one greater, he swore by himself,
14saying, “Surely blessing I will bless you, and multiplying I will multiply you.”
15Thus, having patiently endured, he obtained the promise.
16For men indeed swear by a greater one, and in every dispute of theirs the oath is final for confirmation.
17In this way God, being determined to show more abundantly to the heirs of the promise the immutability of his counsel, interposed with an oath,
18that by two immutable things, in which it is impossible for God to lie, we may have a strong encouragement, who have fled for refuge to take hold of the hope set before us.
19This hope we have as an anchor of the soul, a hope both sure and steadfast and entering into that which is within the veil,
20where as a forerunner Jesus entered for us, having become a high priest forever after the order of Melchizedek.
