1Poiché questo Melchisedec, re di Salem, sacerdote dell’Iddio altissimo, che andò incontro ad Abramo quand’egli tornava dalla sconfitta dei re e lo benedisse,

2a cui Abramo diede anche la decima d’ogni cosa, il quale in prima, secondo la interpretazione del suo nome, è Re di giustizia, e poi anche Re di Salem, vale a dire Re di pace,

3senza padre, senza madre, senza genealogia, senza principio di giorni né fin di vita, ma rassomigliato al Figliuol di Dio, questo Melchisedec rimane sacerdote in perpetuo.

4Or considerate quanto grande fosse colui al quale Abramo, il patriarca, dette la decima del meglio della preda.

5Or quelli d’infra i figliuoli di Levi che ricevono il sacerdozio, hanno bensì ordine, secondo la legge, di prender le decime dal popolo, cioè dai loro fratelli, benché questi siano usciti dai lombi d’Abramo;

6quello, invece, che non è della loro stirpe, prese la decima da Abramo e benedisse colui che avea le promesse!

7Ora, senza contraddizione, l’inferiore è benedetto dal superiore;

8e poi, qui, quelli che prendon le decime son degli uomini mortali; ma là le prende uno di cui si attesta che vive.

9E, per così dire, nella persona d’Abramo, Levi stesso, che prende le decime, fu sottoposto alla decima;

10perch’egli era ancora ne’ lombi di suo padre, quando Melchisedec incontrò Abramo.

11Ora, se la perfezione fosse stata possibile per mezzo del sacerdozio levitico (perché su quello è basata la legge data al popolo), che bisogno c’era ancora che sorgesse un altro sacerdote secondo l’ordine di Melchisedec e non scelto secondo l’ordine d’Aronne?

12Poiché, mutato il sacerdozio, avviene per necessità anche un mutamento di legge.

13Difatti, colui a proposito del quale queste parole son dette, ha appartenuto a un’altra tribù, della quale nessuno s’è accostato all’altare;

14perché è ben noto che il nostro Signore è sorto dalla tribù di Giuda, circa la quale Mosè non disse nulla che concernesse il sacerdozio.

15E la cosa è ancora vie più evidente se sorge, a somiglianza di Melchisedec,

16un altro sacerdote che è stato fatto tale non a tenore di una legge dalle prescrizioni carnali, ma in virtù della potenza di una vita indissolubile;

17poiché gli è resa questa testimonianza: Tu sei sacerdote in eterno secondo l’ordine di Melchisedec.

18Giacché qui v’è bensì l’abrogazione del comandamento precedente a motivo della sua debolezza e inutilità

19(poiché la legge non ha condotto nulla a compimento); ma v’è altresì l’introduzione d’una migliore speranza, mediante la quale ci accostiamo a Dio.

20E in quanto ciò non è avvenuto senza giuramento (poiché quelli sono stati fatti sacerdoti senza giuramento,

21ma egli lo è con giuramento, per opera di Colui che ha detto: Il Signore l’ha giurato e non si pentirà: tu sei sacerdote in eterno),

22è di tanto più eccellente del primo il patto del quale Gesù è divenuto garante.

23Inoltre, quelli sono stati fatti sacerdoti in gran numero, perché per la morte erano impediti di durare;

24ma questi, perché dimora in eterno, ha un sacerdozio che non si trasmette;

25ond’è che può anche salvar appieno quelli che per mezzo di lui si accostano a Dio, vivendo egli sempre per intercedere per loro.

26E infatti a noi conveniva un sacerdote come quello, santo, innocente, immacolato, separato dai peccatori ed elevato al disopra de’ cieli;

27il quale non ha ogni giorno bisogno, come gli altri sommi sacerdoti, d’offrir de’ sacrifici prima per i propri peccati e poi per quelli del popolo; perché questo egli ha fatto una volta per sempre, quando ha offerto se stesso.

28La legge infatti costituisce sommi sacerdoti uomini soggetti a infermità; ma la parola del giuramento fatto dopo la legge costituisce il Figliuolo, che è stato reso perfetto per sempre.

1PORQUE este Melchîsedec, rey de Salem, sacerdote del Dios Altísimo, el cual salió á recibir á Abraham que volvía de la derrota de los reyes, y le bendijo,

2Al cual asimismo dió Abraham los diezmos de todo, primeramente él se interpreta Rey de justicia; y luego también Rey de Salem, que es, Rey de paz;

3Sin padre, sin madre, sin linaje; que ni tiene principio de días, ni fin de vida, mas hecho semejante al Hijo de Dios, permanece sacerdote para siempre.

4Mirad pues cuán grande fué éste, al cual aun Abraham el patriarca dió diezmos de los despojos.

5Y ciertamente los que de los hijos de Leví toman el sacerdocio, tienen mandamiento de tomar del pueblo los diezmos según la ley, es á saber, de sus hermanos aunque también hayan salido de los lomos de Abraham.

6Mas aquél cuya genealogía no es contada de ellos, tomó de Abraham los diezmos, y bendijo al que tenía las promesas.

7Y sin contradicción alguna, lo que es menos es bendecido de lo que es más.

8Y aquí ciertamente los hombres mortales toman los diezmos: mas allí, aquel del cual está dado testimonio que vive.

9Y, por decirlo así, en Abraham fué diezmado también Leví, que recibe los diezmos;

10Porque aun estaba en los lomos de su padre cuando Melchîsedec le salió al encuentro.

11Si pues la perfección era por el sacerdocio Levítico (porque debajo de él recibió el pueblo la ley) ¿qué necesidad había aún de que se levantase otro sacerdote según el orden de Melchîsedec, y que no fuese llamado según el orden de Aarón?

12Pues mudado el sacerdocio, necesario es que se haga también mudanza de la ley.

13Porque aquel del cual esto se dice, de otra tribu es, de la cual nadie asistió al altar.

14Porque notorio es que el Señor nuestro nació de la tribu de Judá, sobre cuya tribu nada habló Moisés tocante al sacerdocio.

15Y aun más manifiesto es, si á semejanza de Melchîsedec se levanta otro sacerdote,

16El cual no es hecho conforme á la ley del mandamiento carnal, sino según la virtud de vida indisoluble;

17Pues se da testimonio de él: Tú eres sacerdote para siempre, según el orden de Melchîsedec.

18El mandamiento precedente, cierto se abroga por su flaqueza é inutilidad;

19Porque nada perfeccionó la ley; mas hízolo la introducción de mejor esperanza, por la cual nos acercamos á Dios.

20Y por cuanto no fué sin juramento,

21(Porque los otros cierto sin juramento fueron hechos sacerdotes; mas éste, con juramento por el que le dijo: Juró el Señor, y no se arrepentirá: Tú eres sacerdote eternamente según el orden de Melchîsedec:)

22Tanto de mejor testamento es hecho fiador Jesús.

23Y los otros cierto fueron muchos sacerdotes, en cuanto por la muerte no podían permanecer.

24Mas éste, por cuanto permanece para siempre, tiene un sacerdocio inmutable:

25Por lo cual puede también salvar eternamente á los que por él se allegan á Dios, viviendo siempre para interceder por ellos.

26Porque tal pontífice nos convenía: santo, inocente, limpio, apartado de los pecadores, y hecho más sublime que los cielos;

27Que no tiene necesidad cada día, como los otros sacerdotes, de ofrecer primero sacrificios por sus pecados, y luego por los del pueblo: porque esto lo hizo una sola vez, ofreciéndose á sí mismo.

28Porque la ley constituye sacerdotes á hombres flacos; mas la palabra del juramento, después de la ley, constituye al Hijo, hecho perfecto para siempre.

King James Version

1For this Melchisedec, king of Salem, priest of the most high God, who met Abraham returning from the slaughter of the kings, and blessed him;

2To whom also Abraham gave a tenth part of all; first being by interpretation King of righteousness, and after that also King of Salem, which is, King of peace;

3Without father, without mother, without descent, having neither beginning of days, nor end of life; but made like unto the Son of God; abideth a priest continually.

4Now consider how great this man was, unto whom even the patriarch Abraham gave the tenth of the spoils.

5And verily they that are of the sons of Levi, who receive the office of the priesthood, have a commandment to take tithes of the people according to the law, that is, of their brethren, though they come out of the loins of Abraham:

6But he whose descent is not counted from them received tithes of Abraham, and blessed him that had the promises.

7And without all contradiction the less is blessed of the better.

8And here men that die receive tithes; but there he receiveth them, of whom it is witnessed that he liveth.

9And as I may so say, Levi also, who receiveth tithes, payed tithes in Abraham.

10For he was yet in the loins of his father, when Melchisedec met him.

11If therefore perfection were by the Levitical priesthood, (for under it the people received the law,) what further need was there that another priest should rise after the order of Melchisedec, and not be called after the order of Aaron?

12For the priesthood being changed, there is made of necessity a change also of the law.

13For he of whom these things are spoken pertaineth to another tribe, of which no man gave attendance at the altar.

14For it is evident that our Lord sprang out of Juda; of which tribe Moses spake nothing concerning priesthood.

15And it is yet far more evident: for that after the similitude of Melchisedec there ariseth another priest,

16Who is made, not after the law of a carnal commandment, but after the power of an endless life.

17For he testifieth, Thou art a priest for ever after the order of Melchisedec.

18For there is verily a disannulling of the commandment going before for the weakness and unprofitableness thereof.

19For the law made nothing perfect, but the bringing in of a better hope did; by the which we draw nigh unto God.

20And inasmuch as not without an oath he was made priest:

21(For those priests were made without an oath; but this with an oath by him that said unto him, The Lord sware and will not repent, Thou art a priest for ever after the order of Melchisedec:)

22By so much was Jesus made a surety of a better testament.

23And they truly were many priests, because they were not suffered to continue by reason of death:

24But this man, because he continueth ever, hath an unchangeable priesthood.

25Wherefore he is able also to save them to the uttermost that come unto God by him, seeing he ever liveth to make intercession for them.

26For such an high priest became us, who is holy, harmless, undefiled, separate from sinners, and made higher than the heavens;

27Who needeth not daily, as those high priests, to offer up sacrifice, first for his own sins, and then for the people’s: for this he did once, when he offered up himself.

28For the law maketh men high priests which have infirmity; but the word of the oath, which was since the law, maketh the Son, who is consecrated for evermore.

1For this Melchizedek, king of Salem, priest of God Most High, who met Abraham returning from the slaughter of the kings and blessed him,

2to whom also Abraham divided a tenth part of all (being first, by interpretation, “king of righteousness”, and then also “king of Salem”, which means “king of peace”,

3without father, without mother, without genealogy, having neither beginning of days nor end of life, but made like the Son of God), remains a priest continually.

4Now consider how great this man was, to whom even Abraham the patriarch gave a tenth out of the best plunder.

5They indeed of the sons of Levi who receive the priest’s office have a commandment to take tithes from the people according to the law, that is, of their brothers, though these have come out of the body of Abraham,

6but he whose genealogy is not counted from them has accepted tithes from Abraham, and has blessed him who has the promises.

7But without any dispute the lesser is blessed by the greater.

8Here people who die receive tithes, but there one receives tithes of whom it is testified that he lives.

9We can say that through Abraham even Levi, who receives tithes, has paid tithes,

10for he was yet in the body of his father when Melchizedek met him.

11Now if perfection was through the Levitical priesthood (for under it the people have received the law), what further need was there for another priest to arise after the order of Melchizedek, and not be called after the order of Aaron?

12For the priesthood being changed, there is of necessity a change made also in the law.

13For he of whom these things are said belongs to another tribe, from which no one has officiated at the altar.

14For it is evident that our Lord has sprung out of Judah, about which tribe Moses spoke nothing concerning priesthood.

15This is yet more abundantly evident, if after the likeness of Melchizedek there arises another priest,

16who has been made, not after the law of a fleshly commandment, but after the power of an endless life;

17for it is testified, “You are a priest forever, according to the order of Melchizedek.”

18For there is an annulling of a foregoing commandment because of its weakness and uselessness

19(for the law made nothing perfect), and a bringing in of a better hope, through which we draw near to God.

20Inasmuch as he was not made priest without the taking of an oath

21(for they indeed have been made priests without an oath), but he with an oath by him that says of him, “The Lord swore and will not change his mind, ‘You are a priest forever, according to the order of Melchizedek.’”

22By so much, Jesus has become the guarantee of a better covenant.

23Many, indeed, have been made priests, because they are hindered from continuing by death.

24But he, because he lives forever, has his priesthood unchangeable.

25Therefore he is also able to save to the uttermost those who draw near to God through him, seeing that he lives forever to make intercession for them.

26For such a high priest was fitting for us: holy, guiltless, undefiled, separated from sinners, and made higher than the heavens;

27who doesn’t need, like those high priests, to offer up sacrifices daily, first for his own sins, and then for the sins of the people. For he did this once for all, when he offered up himself.

28For the law appoints men as high priests who have weakness, but the word of the oath, which came after the law, appoints a Son forever who has been perfected.
