1¡Cuán próspero es Israel, es como una vid frondosa y llena de fruto! Pero cuanta más riqueza yo le doy, más altares construye para sus dioses paganos; cuanto más ricas son las cosechas que yo le doy, tanto más hermosas son las estatuas y las imágenes que construye para ellos.
2Los israelitas tienen su corazón dividido, pues pretenden amar a Dios y a sus ídolos al mismo tiempo. Pero ese es un gravísimo error por el que tendrán que pagar. El Señor destruirá sus altares paganos y volverá añicos las imágenes de sus ídolos.
3Entonces dirán: «Nosotros abandonamos al Señor, por eso él nos quitó nuestro rey. Pero, ¿de qué nos serviría tener rey? ¡Nada podría hacer para ayudarnos!».
4Ellos hacen promesas que no tienen siquiera la intención de cumplir, hacen pactos inútiles con las naciones fuertes. Por lo tanto, el castigo brotará entre ellos como lo hace la mala hierba en los surcos del campo.
5La gente de Samaria tiembla y llora por la pérdida de su ídolo, el becerro de Bet Avén. El pueblo y los sacerdotes están de luto porque el esplendor de su becerro se ha perdido. ¡Cuánto dolor por la pérdida de un ídolo!
6Ese ídolo, el dios becerro, será llevado a Asiria como un regalo para el gran rey. Se burlarán de Efraín por haber confiado en este ídolo; Israel quedará avergonzado.
7El rey de Samaria desaparecerá como una ramita arrastrada por las aguas.
8Y los altares construidos en las montañas para los ídolos, a donde acudían a cometer sus maldades los israelitas, serán destruidos por completo, pues era allá donde adoraban a sus ídolos. Sobre las ruinas de esos altares crecerán espinas y cardos, crecerán para cubrirlos completamente. Y la gente clamará a las montañas y a las colinas para que caigan sobre ellos y los aplasten.
9El Señor dice: «¡Ustedes, israelitas, no han hecho más que cometer maldades desde aquella terrible noche en Guibeá! ¡No han cambiado en absoluto! Así como aquellos hombres de Guibeá fueron castigados, también lo serán ustedes.
10Vendré contra ti por tu desobediencia; juntaré los ejércitos de las naciones contra ti para castigarte por tus múltiples maldades.
11»Efraín era como una novilla muy dócil a la que le encantaba trillar el grano. Jamás lo he puesto bajo un yugo pesado, antes siempre le he perdonado su maldad. ¡Ahora sabrá lo que es la vida dura! ¡Ahora le pondré el yugo sobre su frágil cuello! Israel tendrá que arrastrar el arado y Judá preparará la tierra con gran fatiga».
12Planten las buenas semillas de justicia y entonces segarán una cosecha de mi amor; aren el suelo duro de sus corazones para que estén listos a recibir la instrucción de Dios, porque ahora es el tiempo de buscar al Señor, para que él venga y les de una vida próspera y tranquila.
13¡Pero en lugar de ello han cultivado maldad por todos lados y por eso ha brotado una abundante cosecha de cosas malas! ¡Han recibido la recompensa por confiar en una mentira, pues creyeron que sus carros de guerra y su gran ejército podían darles seguridad!
14Por lo tanto, los terrores de la guerra los perseguirán y sus fortalezas serán destruidas. Les sucederá lo mismo que a Bet Arbel, cuando el rey Salmán la destruyó el día de la batalla y aplastó a las madres junto con sus hijos.
15Ese será también el destino de Israel debido a su gran maldad. ¡Tan pronto amanezca, el rey de Israel habrá muerto!

1ES Israel una frondosa viña, haciendo fruto para sí: conforme á la multiplicación de su fruto multiplicó altares, conforme á la bondad de su tierra aumentaron sus estatuas.
2Dividióse su corazón. Ahora serán hallados culpables: él quebrantará sus altares, asolará sus estatuas.
3Porque dirán ahora: No tenemos rey, porque no temimos á Jehová: ¿y qué haría el rey por nosotros?
4Han hablado palabras jurando en vano al hacer alianza: por tanto, el juicio florecerá como ajenjo en los surcos del campo.
5Por las becerras de Beth-aven serán atemorizados los moradores de Samaria: porque su pueblo lamentará á causa del becerro, y sus sacerdotes que en él se regocijaban por su gloria, la cual será disipada.
6Y aun será él llevado á Asiria en presente al rey Jareb: Ephraim será avergonzado, é Israel será confuso de su consejo.
7De Samaria fué cortado su rey como la espuma sobre la superficie de las aguas.
8Y los altares de Avén serán destruídos, el pecado de Israel; crecerá sobre sus altares espino y cardo. Y dirán á los montes: Cubridnos; y á los collados: Caed sobre nosotros.
9Desde los días de Gabaa has pecado, oh Israel: allí estuvieron: no los tomó la batalla en Gabaa contra los inicuos.
10Y los castigaré como deseo: y pueblos se juntarán sobre ellos cuando serán atados en sus dos surcos.
11Ephraim es becerra domada, amadora del trillar; mas yo pasaré sobre su lozana cerviz: yo haré llevar yugo á Ephraim; arará Judá, quebrará sus terrones Jacob.
12Sembrad para vosotros en justicia, segad para vosotros en misericordia; arad para vosotros barbecho: porque es el tiempo de buscar á Jehová, hasta que venga y os enseñe justicia.
13Habéis arado impiedad, segasteis iniquidad: comeréis fruto de mentira: porque confiaste en tu camino, en la multitud de tus fuertes.
14Por tanto, en tus pueblos se levantará alboroto, y todas tus fortalezas serán destruídas, como destruyó Salmán á Beth-arbel el día de la batalla: la madre fué arrojada sobre los hijos.
15Así hará á vosotros Beth-el por la maldad de vuestra maldad: en la mañana será del todo cortado el rey de Israel.
King James Version
1Israel is an empty vine, he bringeth forth fruit unto himself: according to the multitude of his fruit he hath increased the altars; according to the goodness of his land they have made goodly images.
2Their heart is divided; now shall they be found faulty: he shall break down their altars, he shall spoil their images.
3For now they shall say, We have no king, because we feared not the LORD; what then should a king do to us?
4They have spoken words, swearing falsely in making a covenant: thus judgment springeth up as hemlock in the furrows of the field.
5The inhabitants of Samaria shall fear because of the calves of Beth-aven: for the people thereof shall mourn over it, and the priests thereof that rejoiced on it, for the glory thereof, because it is departed from it.
6It shall be also carried unto Assyria for a present to king Jareb: Ephraim shall receive shame, and Israel shall be ashamed of his own counsel.
7As for Samaria, her king is cut off as the foam upon the water.
8The high places also of Aven, the sin of Israel, shall be destroyed: the thorn and the thistle shall come up on their altars; and they shall say to the mountains, Cover us; and to the hills, Fall on us.
9O Israel, thou hast sinned from the days of Gibeah: there they stood: the battle in Gibeah against the children of iniquity did not overtake them.
10It is in my desire that I should chastise them; and the people shall be gathered against them, when they shall bind themselves in their two furrows.
11And Ephraim is as an heifer that is taught, and loveth to tread out the corn; but I passed over upon her fair neck: I will make Ephraim to ride; Judah shall plow, and Jacob shall break his clods.
12Sow to yourselves in righteousness, reap in mercy; break up your fallow ground: for it is time to seek the LORD, till he come and rain righteousness upon you.
13Ye have plowed wickedness, ye have reaped iniquity; ye have eaten the fruit of lies: because thou didst trust in thy way, in the multitude of thy mighty men.
14Therefore shall a tumult arise among thy people, and all thy fortresses shall be spoiled, as Shalman spoiled Beth-arbel in the day of battle: the mother was dashed in pieces upon her children.
15So shall Beth-el do unto you because of your great wickedness: in a morning shall the king of Israel utterly be cut off.
World English Bible
1Israel is a luxuriant vine that produces his fruit. According to the abundance of his fruit he has multiplied his altars. As their land has prospered, they have adorned their sacred stones.
2Their heart is divided. Now they will be found guilty. He will demolish their altars. He will destroy their sacred stones.
3Surely now they will say, “We have no king; for we don’t fear the LORD; and the king, what can he do for us?”
4They make promises, swearing falsely in making covenants. Therefore judgment springs up like poisonous weeds in the furrows of the field.
5The inhabitants of Samaria will be in terror for the calves of Beth Aven, for its people will mourn over it, along with its priests who rejoiced over it, for its glory, because it has departed from it.
6It also will be carried to Assyria for a present to a great king. Ephraim will receive shame, and Israel will be ashamed of his own counsel.
7Samaria and her king float away like a twig on the water.
8The high places also of Aven, the sin of Israel, will be destroyed. The thorn and the thistle will come up on their altars. They will tell the mountains, “Cover us!” and the hills, “Fall on us!”
9“Israel, you have sinned from the days of Gibeah. There they remained. The battle against the children of iniquity doesn’t overtake them in Gibeah.
10When it is my desire, I will chastise them; and the nations will be gathered against them when they are bound to their two transgressions.
11Ephraim is a trained heifer that loves to thresh, so I will put a yoke on her beautiful neck. I will set a rider on Ephraim. Judah will plow. Jacob will break his clods.
12Sow to yourselves in righteousness, reap according to kindness. Break up your fallow ground, for it is time to seek the LORD, until he comes and rains righteousness on you.
13You have plowed wickedness. You have reaped iniquity. You have eaten the fruit of lies, for you trusted in your way, in the multitude of your mighty men.
14Therefore a battle roar will arise among your people, and all your fortresses will be destroyed, as Shalman destroyed Beth Arbel in the day of battle. The mother was dashed in pieces with her children.
15So Bethel will do to you because of your great wickedness. At daybreak the king of Israel will be destroyed.
