La tragedia se cierne sobre los que aprueban malos decretos y redactan leyes para perjudicar a la gente.
¡AY de los que establecen leyes injustas, y determinando prescriben tiranía,

Pervierten los derechos legales de los necesitados y roban la justicia a los pobres de mi pueblo. Roban a las viudas y engañan a los huérfanos.
Por apartar del juicio á los pobres, y por quitar el derecho á los afligidos de mi pueblo; por despojar las viudas, y robar los huérfanos!
To turn aside the needy from judgment, and to take away the right from the poor of my people, that widows may be their prey, and that they may rob the fatherless!

¿Qué van a hacer el día en que sean castigados, cuando el desastre caiga sobre ustedes desde lejos? ¿A quién vas a correr para que te ayude? ¿Dónde vas a dejar toda tu riqueza?
¿Y qué haréis en el día de la visitación? ¿y á quién os acogeréis que os ayude, cuando viniere de lejos el asolamiento? ¿y en dónde dejaréis vuestra gloria?
And what will ye do in the day of visitation, and in the desolation which shall come from far? to whom will ye flee for help? and where will ye leave your glory?

¡Lo único que podrán hacer es postrarse como prisioneros, o yacer entre los muertos! Con todo esto sigue enfadado y con la mano levantada.
Sin mí se inclinarán entre los presos, y entre los muertos caerán. Ni con todo esto ha cesado su furor, antes todavía extendida su mano.

¡La tragedia se acerca a los asirios, aunque la vara que usan representa mi cólera y el bastón que sostienen en sus manos representa mi furia!
Oh Assur, vara y bastón de mi furor: en su mano he puesto mi ira.
O Assyrian, the rod of mine anger, and the staff in their hand is mine indignation.

Envío a los asirios contra una nación que ha renunciado a su Dios, contra un pueblo que me hace enojar. Ordeno a los asirios que los saqueen, que se apoderen de sus bienes y que los pisoteen como el barro en la calle.
Mandaréle contra una gente fementida, y sobre el pueblo de mi ira le enviaré, para que quite despojos, y arrebate presa, y que lo ponga á ser hollado como lodo de las calles.
I will send him against an hypocritical nation, and against the people of my wrath will I give him a charge, to take the spoil, and to take the prey, and to tread them down like the mire of the streets.

Pero esto no es lo que piensa el rey de Asiria. Este no es el plan que tiene en mente. Lo que él quiere hacer es destruir y eliminar muchas naciones.
Aunque él no lo pensará así, ni su corazón lo imaginará de esta manera; sino que su pensamiento será desarraigar y cortar gentes no pocas.
Howbeit he meaneth not so, neither doth his heart think so; but it is in his heart to destroy and cut off nations not a few.

Él dice: “¡Todos mis comandantes son reyes!
Porque él dice: Mis príncipes ¿no son todos reyes?
For he saith, Are not my princes altogether kings?

Conquistamos Calno como lo hicimos con Carquemis; así también Hamat como Arpad; Samaria como Damasco.
¿No es Calno como Carchêmis, Hamath como Arphad, y Samaria como Damasco?
Is not Calno as Carchemish? is not Hamath as Arpad? is not Samaria as Damascus?
Isn’t Calno like Carchemish? Isn’t Hamath like Arpad? Isn’t Samaria like Damascus?”
Yo fui quien conquistó estos reinos junto con los ídolos de sus dioses. Estos reinos tenían imágenes de sus dioses que eran mejores que las de Jerusalén y Samaria.
Como halló mi mano los reinos de los ídolos, siendo sus imágenes más que Jerusalem y Samaria;
As my hand hath found the kingdoms of the idols, and whose graven images did excel them of Jerusalem and of Samaria;
As my hand has found the kingdoms of the idols, whose engraved images exceeded those of Jerusalem and of Samaria,
¿Por qué no voy a hacer con Jerusalén y sus ídolos lo mismo que hice con Samaria y sus ídolos?”
Como hice á Samaria y á sus ídolos, ¿no haré también así á Jerusalem y á sus ídolos?

Una vez que el Señor haya terminado todo su trabajo contra el Monte Sion y Jerusalén, él castigará al rey de Asiria por su terrible arrogancia y por la mirada engreída de sus ojos.
Mas acontecerá que después que el Señor hubiere acabado toda su obra en el monte de Sión, y en Jerusalem, visitaré sobre el fruto de la soberbia del corazón del rey de Asiria, y sobre la gloria de la altivez de sus ojos.
Wherefore it shall come to pass, that when the Lord hath performed his whole work upon mount Zion and on Jerusalem, I will punish the fruit of the stout heart of the king of Assyria, and the glory of his high looks.
Therefore it will happen that when the Lord has performed his whole work on Mount Zion and on Jerusalem, I will punish the fruit of the willful proud heart of the king of Assyria, and the insolence of his arrogant looks.
Porque el rey de Asiria dice: “He hecho esto con mi propia fuerza. Lo he hecho con mi sabiduría, porque soy inteligente. He borrado los límites de las naciones y he saqueado sus tesoros. Como un toro derribé a sus gobernantes de sus tronos.
Porque dijo: Con la fortaleza de mi mano lo he hecho, y con mi sabiduría; porque he sido prudente: y quité los términos de los pueblos, y saqueé sus tesoros, y derribé como valientes los que estaban sentados:
For he saith, By the strength of my hand I have done it, and by my wisdom; for I am prudent: and I have removed the bounds of the people, and have robbed their treasures, and I have put down the inhabitants like a valiant man:

Como si robara un nido de pájaros, tomé las riquezas de las naciones. Como si recogiera huevos abandonados, recogí toda la tierra. No hubo ni un aleteo ni un pico abierto, ni siquiera un piar”.
Y halló mi mano como nido las riquezas de los pueblos; y como se cogen los huevos dejados, así me apoderé yo de toda la tierra; y no hubo quien moviese ala, ó abriese boca y graznase.
And my hand hath found as a nest the riches of the people: and as one gathereth eggs that are left, have I gathered all the earth; and there was none that moved the wing, or opened the mouth, or peeped.
My hand has found the riches of the peoples like a nest, and like one gathers eggs that are abandoned, I have gathered all the earth. There was no one who moved their wing, or that opened their mouth, or chirped.”
¿Acaso un hacha dice que es más importante que la persona que la afila? ¿Acaso una sierra se jacta de ser más grande que la persona que la usa? Sería como si una vara agitara a la persona que la sostiene, o un bastón levantara a una persona, que ciertamente no es de madera.
¿Gloriaráse el hacha contra el que con ella corta? ¿se ensoberbecerá la sierra contra el que la mueve? como si el bordón se levantase contra los que lo levantan; como si se levantase la vara: ¿no es leño?
Shall the axe boast itself against him that heweth therewith? or shall the saw magnify itself against him that shaketh it? as if the rod should shake itself against them that lift it up, or as if the staff should lift up itself, as if it were no wood.
Should an ax brag against him who chops with it? Should a saw exalt itself above him who saws with it? As if a rod should lift those who lift it up, or as if a staff should lift up someone who is not wood.
Así que el Señor, el Señor Todopoderoso, enviará una enfermedad a los fuertes guerreros del rey de Asiria que los hará marchitarse; un fuego ardiente se pondrá debajo de todo lo que él está tan orgulloso.
Por tanto el Señor Jehová de los ejércitos enviará flaqueza sobre sus gordos; y debajo de su gloria encenderá encendimiento, como ardor de fuego.
Therefore shall the Lord, the Lord of hosts, send among his fat ones leanness; and under his glory he shall kindle a burning like the burning of a fire.

La luz de Israel se convertirá en un fuego, y su Santo se convertirá en una llama. Quemará sus espinas y zarzas en un solo día.

And the light of Israel shall be for a fire, and his Holy One for a flame: and it shall burn and devour his thorns and his briers in one day;

Destruirá totalmente sus espléndidos bosques y huertos. Asiria se consumirá, tambaleándose como un enfermo.
La gloria de su bosque y de su campo fértil consumirá, desde el alma hasta la carne: y vendrá á ser como abanderado en derrota.
And shall consume the glory of his forest, and of his fruitful field, both soul and body: and they shall be as when a standardbearer fainteth.

Los árboles que queden en sus bosques serán tan pocos que un niño podría contarlos.
Y los árboles que quedaren en su bosque, serán en número que un niño los pueda contar.
And the rest of the trees of his forest shall be few, that a child may write them.

En ese momento, los que queden en Israel y los sobrevivientes de la casa de Jacob ya no confiarán en los que los traicionan, sino que confiarán verdaderamente en el Señor, el Santo de Israel.
Y acontecerá en aquel tiempo, que los que hubieren quedado de Israel, y los que hubieren quedado de la casa de Jacob, nunca más estriben sobre el que los hirió; sino que se apoyarán con verdad en Jehová Santo de Israel.
And it shall come to pass in that day, that the remnant of Israel, and such as are escaped of the house of Jacob, shall no more again stay upon him that smote them; but shall stay upon the LORD, the Holy One of Israel, in truth.

Un remanente volverá, un remanente de Jacob volverá al Dios Fuerte.

Israel, aunque tu pueblo sea tan numeroso como la arena en la orilla del mar, sólo un remanente regresará. El Señor ha decidido con razón destruir a su pueblo.
Porque si tu pueblo, oh Israel, fuere como las arenas de la mar, las reliquias de él se convertirán: la destrucción acordada rebosará justicia.
For though thy people Israel be as the sand of the sea, yet a remnant of them shall return: the consumption decreed shall overflow with righteousness.
For though your people, Israel, are like the sand of the sea, only a remnant of them will return. A destruction is determined, overflowing with righteousness.
El Señor Dios Todopoderoso ha decidido, con razón, llevar la destrucción a todo el país.
Pues el Señor Jehová de los ejércitos hará consumación y fenecimiento en medio de la tierra.
For the Lord GOD of hosts shall make a consumption, even determined, in the midst of all the land.
For the Lord, GOD of Armies, will make a full end, and that determined, throughout all the earth.
Así que esto es lo que dice el Señor, el Señor Todopoderoso: Pueblo mío que vive en Sión, no tengan miedo de los asirios que los golpean con varas y los golpean con garrotes, como hicieron los egipcios.
Por tanto el Señor Jehová de los ejércitos dice así: Pueblo mío, morador de Sión, no temas de Assur. Con vara te herirá, y contra ti alzará su palo, á la manera de Egipto:
Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD of hosts, O my people that dwellest in Zion, be not afraid of the Assyrian: he shall smite thee with a rod, and shall lift up his staff against thee, after the manner of Egypt.
Therefore the Lord, GOD of Armies, says, “My people who dwell in Zion, don’t be afraid of the Assyrian, though he strike you with the rod, and lift up his staff against you, as Egypt did.
Muy pronto dejaré de estar enojado con ustedes. Entonces volveré mi ira contra ellos y los destruiré.
Mas de aquí á muy poco tiempo, se acabará el furor y mi enojo, para fenecimiento de ellos.
For yet a very little while, and the indignation shall cease, and mine anger in their destruction.

El Señor Todopoderoso los azotará con un látigo, tal como lo hizo cuando atacó a los madianitas en la roca de Oreb. Levantará su vara sobre el mar, como lo hizo en Egipto.
Y levantará Jehová de los ejércitos azote contra él, cual la matanza de Madián en la peña de Oreb: y alzará su vara sobre la mar, según hizo por la vía de Egipto.
And the LORD of hosts shall stir up a scourge for him according to the slaughter of Midian at the rock of Oreb: and as his rod was upon the sea, so shall he lift it up after the manner of Egypt.
The LORD of Armies will stir up a scourge against him, as in the slaughter of Midian at the rock of Oreb. His rod will be over the sea, and he will lift it up like he did against Egypt.
En ese momento quitará la carga de sus hombros y el yugo de su cuello. El yugo se romperá gracias a la unción con aceite.
Y acaecerá en aquel tiempo, que su carga será quitada de tu hombro, y su yugo de tu cerviz, y el yugo se empodrecerá por causa de la unción.
And it shall come to pass in that day, that his burden shall be taken away from off thy shoulder, and his yoke from off thy neck, and the yoke shall be destroyed because of the anointing.
It will happen in that day that his burden will depart from off your shoulder, and his yoke from off your neck, and the yoke shall be destroyed because of the anointing oil.
Los asirios llegaron a Ajat, pasaron por Migrón y almacenaron sus provisiones en Micmas.
Vino hasta Ajad, pasó hasta Migrón; en Michmas contará su ejército:
He is come to Aiath, he is passed to Migron; at Michmash he hath laid up his carriages:
He has come to Aiath. He has passed through Migron. At Michmash he stores his baggage.
Cruzaron el paso diciendo: Pasaremos la noche en Geba. El pueblo de Ramá tiembla de miedo; los habitantes de Guibeá de Saúl huyen.
Pasaron el vado; alojaron en Geba: Ramá tembló; Gabaa de Saúl huyó.
They are gone over the passage: they have taken up their lodging at Geba; Ramah is afraid; Gibeah of Saul is fled.
They have gone over the pass. They have taken up their lodging at Geba. Ramah trembles. Gibeah of Saul has fled.
¡Griten una advertencia, pueblo de Galim! ¡Presten atención, los que viven en Lais! ¡Pobre pueblo de Anatot!
Grita en alta voz, hija de Galim; haz que se oiga hacia Lais, pobrecilla Anathoth.
Lift up thy voice, O daughter of Gallim: cause it to be heard unto Laish, O poor Anathoth.
Cry aloud with your voice, daughter of Gallim! Listen, Laishah! You poor Anathoth!
Los habitantes de Madmena, todos huyen. Los habitantes de Gebim buscan un lugar seguro.
Madmena se alborotó: los moradores de Gebim se juntarán.
Madmenah is removed; the inhabitants of Gebim gather themselves to flee.
Madmenah is a fugitive. The inhabitants of Gebim flee for safety.
Hoy los invasores se detienen en Nob, agitando sus puños en el monte de la Hija de Sión, en la colina de Jerusalén.
Aún vendrá día cuando reposará en Nob: alzará su mano al monte de la hija de Sión, al collado de Jerusalem.
As yet shall he remain at Nob that day: he shall shake his hand against the mount of the daughter of Zion, the hill of Jerusalem.
This very day he will halt at Nob. He shakes his hand at the mountain of the daughter of Zion, the hill of Jerusalem.
Mira cómo el Señor Todopoderoso va a cortar las ramas con gran fuerza. Los árboles altos serán cortados, los árboles orgullosos serán derribados.
He aquí el Señor Jehová de los ejércitos desgajará el ramo con fortaleza: y los de grande altura serán cortados, y los altos serán humillados.
Behold, the Lord, the LORD of hosts, shall lop the bough with terror: and the high ones of stature shall be hewn down, and the haughty shall be humbled.
Behold, the Lord, GOD of Armies, will lop the boughs with terror. The tall will be cut down, and the lofty will be brought low.
Cortará el espeso bosque con un hacha, y el Líbano caerá a manos del Poderoso.
Y cortará con hierro la espesura del bosque, y el Líbano caerá con fortaleza.
And he shall cut down the thickets of the forest with iron, and Lebanon shall fall by a mighty one.
