1Estos son los mensajes que recibió Isaías, hijo de Amoz, en unas visiones que tuvo durante los reinados de Uzías, Jotán, Acaz y Ezequías, todos ellos reyes de Judá. En estos mensajes Dios le mostró lo que habría de ocurrirles a Judá y a Jerusalén en los días por venir.
2Escuchen, cielo y tierra, lo que dice el Señor: Los hijos que crie y cuidé por tanto tiempo y tan tiernamente se han vuelto contra mí.
3Hasta los animales —el burro y el buey— conocen a su amo y agradecen sus cuidados, ¡pero no así mi pueblo Israel! Haga lo que haga por ellos, les tiene sin cuidado.
4¡Qué nación tan pecadora! Andan encorvados bajo la carga de su culpa. También sus padres fueron malvados. Nacidos para el mal, le volvieron las espaldas al Señor y menospreciaron al Santo de Israel. Ellos mismos se han alejado de mi auxilio.
5Oh pueblo mío, ¿no han recibido suficiente castigo? ¿Por qué obligarme a azotarlos una y otra vez? ¿Es su intención ser rebeldes toda la vida? De la cabeza a los pies están enfermos, débiles y desfallecidos, cubiertos de magulladuras, verdugones y heridas infectadas, sin ungir ni vendar.

7Su patria está en ruinas, sus ciudades incendiadas. Mientras ustedes se la pasan mirando, los extranjeros destruyen y saquean cuanto ven.
8Y ahí se quedan ustedes, indefensos y abandonados como si fueran una de esas chozas inútiles que usan los vigilantes en el campo luego de terminada la cosecha, pero cuando el producto de la cosecha ya ha sido saqueado y robado.
9Si el Señor Todopoderoso no hubiera intervenido para salvar a unos cuantos de nosotros, habríamos sido destruidos como lo fueron Sodoma y Gomorra.
10¡Es una buena comparación! Escuchen, jefes de Israel, hombres de Sodoma y Gomorra, como ahora les llamo. ¡Escuchen al Señor! ¡Escuchen lo que les dice!
11Sus sacrificios me tienen harto, no me los traigan más. No quiero sus carneros engordados, no quiero ver la sangre de sus ofrendas.
12¿Cómo he de querer los sacrificios de ustedes si ni siquiera son capaces de sentir dolor por sus pecados? El incienso que me traen hiede en mis narices. Sus santas celebraciones de la luna nueva y el sábado, y sus días de ayuno especial —aun sus más santas reuniones—, ¡todo es fraude! No quiero nada más con ellos.

14Los detesto a todos, no puedo verlos ni pintados.
15De ahora en adelante, cuando oren con las manos levantadas al cielo, no miraré ni escucharé. Por más oraciones que hagan, no escucharé, porque sus manos son manos de asesinos, están manchadas con la sangre de víctimas inocentes.
16¡Oh, lávense, límpiense! Que no les vea yo nunca más cometer esas maldades; dejen sus malos caminos.
17Aprendan a hacer el bien, a ser justos y a ayudar a los pobres, a los huérfanos y a las viudas.
18¡Vengan y aclaremos las cuentas! —dice el Señor—, por profunda que sea la mancha de sus pecados, yo puedo quitarla y dejarlos tan limpios como la nieve recién caída. ¡Aunque sus manchas sean rojas como el carmesí, yo puedo volverlas blancas como la lana!
19Si me dejan ayudarlos, que me puedan obedecer, yo los enriqueceré.
20Pero si continúan volviéndome las espaldas y negándose a escucharme, morirán a manos de sus enemigos. Yo, el Señor, se los aseguro.
21¡Oh Jerusalén, que fuiste mi fiel esposa, ahora eres una ramera! ¡Corres tras otros dioses! Fuiste «La Ciudad de la Justicia», pero hoy eres guarida de asesinos.
22Fuiste como plata purificada, pero ahora estás mezclada con ruin aleación. Fuiste muy pura, pero ahora estás diluida como vino aguado.
23Tus caudillos son rebeldes, compinches de ladrones; todos son sobornables y no defienden a las viudas ni a los huérfanos.
24Por tanto, así dice el Señor, el Señor Todopoderoso, el Poderoso de Israel, dice: ¡Derramaré mi ira sobre ustedes, enemigos tuyos!
25Yo mismo los derretiré en la fundición y les sacaré la escoria.
26Y después les daré buenos jueces y sabios consejeros como los que antes tenían. Entonces nuevamente la ciudad de ustedes se llamará «La Ciudad de la Justicia» y «La Ciudad Fiel».
27Los que regresen al Señor deben ser justos y buenos, y entonces serán redimidos.
28Pero todos los pecadores serán totalmente aniquilados, porque rehúsan venir a mí.
29Los cubriré de vergüenza, y enrojecerán pensando en aquellas ocasiones en que sacrificaban ante los ídolos en sus bosques de encinas «sagradas».
30Perecerán como lo hace un árbol marchito o un huerto sin agua.
31Los más fuertes de ustedes desaparecerán como paja en el fuego; sus maldades son la chispa que enciende la paja, y nadie podrá apagarla.

1VISIÓN de Isaías hijo de Amoz, la cual vió sobre Judá y Jerusalem, en días de Uzzías, Jotham, Achâz y Ezechîas, reyes de Judá.
2Oid, cielos, y escucha tú, tierra; porque habla Jehová: Crié hijos, y engrandecílos, y ellos se rebelaron contra mí.
3El buey conoce á su dueño, y el asno el pesebre de su señor: Israel no conoce, mi pueblo no tiene entendimiento.
4¡Oh gente pecadora, pueblo cargado de maldad, generación de malignos, hijos depravados! Dejaron á Jehová, provocaron á ira al Santo de Israel, tornáronse atrás.
5¿Para qué habéis de ser castigados aún? todavía os rebelaréis. Toda cabeza está enferma, y todo corazón doliente.
6Desde la planta del pie hasta la cabeza no hay en él cosa ilesa, sino herida, hinchazón y podrida llaga: no están curadas, ni vendadas, ni suavizadas con aceite.
7Vuestra tierra está destruída, vuestras ciudades puestas á fuego, vuestra tierra delante de vosotros comida de extranjeros, y asolada como asolamiento de extraños.
8Y queda la hija de Sión como choza en viña, y como cabaña en melonar, como ciudad asolada.
9Si Jehová de los ejércitos no hubiera hecho que nos quedasen muy cortos residuos, como Sodoma fuéramos, y semejantes á Gomorra.
10Príncipes de Sodoma, oid la palabra de Jehová; escuchad la ley de nuestro Dios, pueblo de Gomorra.
11¿Para qué á mí, dice Jehová, la multitud de vuestros sacrificios? Harto estoy de holocaustos de carneros, y de sebo de animales gruesos: no quiero sangre de bueyes, ni de ovejas, ni de machos cabríos.
12¿Quién demandó esto de vuestras manos, cuando vinieseis á presentaros delante de mí, para hollar mis atrios?
13No me traigáis más vano presente: el perfume me es abominación: luna nueva y sábado, el convocar asambleas, no las puedo sufrir: son iniquidad vuestras solemnidades.
14Vuestras lunas nuevas y vuestras solemnidades tiene aborrecidas mi alma: me son gravosas; cansado estoy de llevarlas.
15Cuando extendiereis vuestras manos, yo esconderé de vosotros mis ojos: asimismo cuando multiplicareis la oración, yo no oiré: llenas están de sangre vuestras manos.
16Lavad, limpiaos; quitad la iniquidad de vuestras obras de ante mis ojos; dejad de hacer lo malo:
17Aprended á hacer bien; buscad juicio, restituid al agraviado, oid en derecho al huérfano, amparad á la viuda.
18Venid luego, dirá Jehová, y estemos á cuenta: si vuestros pecados fueren como la grana, como la nieve serán emblanquecidos: si fueren rojos como el carmesí, vendrán á ser como blanca lana.
19Si quisiereis y oyereis, comeréis el bien de la tierra:
20Si no quisiereis y fuereis rebeldes, seréis consumidos á espada: porque la boca de Jehová lo ha dicho.
21¿Cómo te has tornado ramera, oh ciudad fiel? Llena estuvo de juicio, en ella habitó equidad; mas ahora, homicidas.
22Tu plata se ha tornado escorias, tu vino mezclado está con agua.
23Tus príncipes, prevaricadores y compañeros de ladrones: todos aman las dádivas, y van tras las recompensas: no oyen en juicio al huérfano, ni llega á ellos la causa de la viuda.
24Por tanto, dice el Señor Jehová de los ejércitos, el Fuerte de Israel: Ea, tomaré satisfacción de mis enemigos, vengaréme de mis adversarios:
25Y volveré mi mano sobre ti, y limpiaré hasta lo más puro tus escorias, y quitaré todo tu estaño:
26Y restituiré tus jueces como al principio, y tus consejeros como de primero: entonces te llamarán Ciudad de justicia, Ciudad fiel.
27Sión con juicio será rescatada, y los convertidos de ella con justicia.
28Mas los rebeldes y pecadores á una serán quebrantados, y los que dejan á Jehová serán consumidos.
29Entonces os avergonzarán los olmos que amasteis, y os afrentarán los bosques que escogisteis.
30Porque seréis como el olmo que se le cae la hoja, y como huerto que le faltan las aguas.
31Y el fuerte será como estopa, y lo que hizo como centella; y ambos serán encendidos juntamente, y no habrá quien apague.

1The vision of Isaiah the son of Amoz, which he saw concerning Judah and Jerusalem in the days of Uzziah, Jotham, Ahaz, and Hezekiah, kings of Judah.
2Hear, O heavens, and give ear, O earth: for the LORD hath spoken, I have nourished and brought up children, and they have rebelled against me.
3The ox knoweth his owner, and the ass his master’s crib: but Israel doth not know, my people doth not consider.
4Ah sinful nation, a people laden with iniquity, a seed of evildoers, children that are corrupters: they have forsaken the LORD, they have provoked the Holy One of Israel unto anger, they are gone away backward.
5Why should ye be stricken any more? ye will revolt more and more: the whole head is sick, and the whole heart faint.
6From the sole of the foot even unto the head there is no soundness in it; but wounds, and bruises, and putrifying sores: they have not been closed, neither bound up, neither mollified with ointment.
7Your country is desolate, your cities are burned with fire: your land, strangers devour it in your presence, and it is desolate, as overthrown by strangers.
8And the daughter of Zion is left as a cottage in a vineyard, as a lodge in a garden of cucumbers, as a besieged city.
9Except the LORD of hosts had left unto us a very small remnant, we should have been as Sodom, and we should have been like unto Gomorrah.
10Hear the word of the LORD, ye rulers of Sodom; give ear unto the law of our God, ye people of Gomorrah.
11To what purpose is the multitude of your sacrifices unto me? saith the LORD: I am full of the burnt offerings of rams, and the fat of fed beasts; and I delight not in the blood of bullocks, or of lambs, or of he goats.
12When ye come to appear before me, who hath required this at your hand, to tread my courts?
13Bring no more vain oblations; incense is an abomination unto me; the new moons and sabbaths, the calling of assemblies, I cannot away with; it is iniquity, even the solemn meeting.
14Your new moons and your appointed feasts my soul hateth: they are a trouble unto me; I am weary to bear them.
15And when ye spread forth your hands, I will hide mine eyes from you: yea, when ye make many prayers, I will not hear: your hands are full of blood.
16Wash you, make you clean; put away the evil of your doings from before mine eyes; cease to do evil;
17Learn to do well; seek judgment, relieve the oppressed, judge the fatherless, plead for the widow.
18Come now, and let us reason together, saith the LORD: though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool.
19If ye be willing and obedient, ye shall eat the good of the land:
20But if ye refuse and rebel, ye shall be devoured with the sword: for the mouth of the LORD hath spoken it.
21How is the faithful city become an harlot! it was full of judgment; righteousness lodged in it; but now murderers.
22Thy silver is become dross, thy wine mixed with water:
23Thy princes are rebellious, and companions of thieves: every one loveth gifts, and followeth after rewards: they judge not the fatherless, neither doth the cause of the widow come unto them.
24Therefore saith the Lord, the LORD of hosts, the mighty One of Israel, Ah, I will ease me of mine adversaries, and avenge me of mine enemies:
25And I will turn my hand upon thee, and purely purge away thy dross, and take away all thy tin:
26And I will restore thy judges as at the first, and thy counsellors as at the beginning: afterward thou shalt be called, The city of righteousness, the faithful city.
27Zion shall be redeemed with judgment, and her converts with righteousness.
28And the destruction of the transgressors and of the sinners shall be together, and they that forsake the LORD shall be consumed.
29For they shall be ashamed of the oaks which ye have desired, and ye shall be confounded for the gardens that ye have chosen.
30For ye shall be as an oak whose leaf fadeth, and as a garden that hath no water.
31And the strong shall be as tow, and the maker of it as a spark, and they shall both burn together, and none shall quench them.

1The vision of Isaiah the son of Amoz, which he saw concerning Judah and Jerusalem, in the days of Uzziah, Jotham, Ahaz, and Hezekiah, kings of Judah.
2Hear, heavens, and listen, earth; for the LORD has spoken: “I have nourished and brought up children and they have rebelled against me.
3The ox knows his owner, and the donkey his master’s crib; but Israel doesn’t know. My people don’t consider.”
4Ah sinful nation, a people loaded with iniquity, offspring of evildoers, children who deal corruptly! They have forsaken the LORD. They have despised the Holy One of Israel. They are estranged and backward.
5Why should you be beaten more, that you revolt more and more? The whole head is sick, and the whole heart faint.
6From the sole of the foot even to the head there is no soundness in it, but wounds, welts, and open sores. They haven’t been closed, bandaged, or soothed with oil.
7Your country is desolate. Your cities are burned with fire. Strangers devour your land in your presence and it is desolate, as overthrown by strangers.
8The daughter of Zion is left like a shelter in a vineyard, like a hut in a field of melons, like a besieged city.
9Unless the LORD of Armies had left to us a very small remnant, we would have been as Sodom. We would have been like Gomorrah.
10Hear the LORD’s word, you rulers of Sodom! Listen to the law of our God, you people of Gomorrah!
11“What are the multitude of your sacrifices to me?”, says the LORD. “I have had enough of the burnt offerings of rams and the fat of fed animals. I don’t delight in the blood of bulls, or of lambs, or of male goats.
12When you come to appear before me, who has required this at your hand, to trample my courts?
13Bring no more vain offerings. Incense is an abomination to me. New moons, Sabbaths, and convocations— I can’t stand evil assemblies.
14My soul hates your New Moons and your appointed feasts. They are a burden to me. I am weary of bearing them.
15When you spread out your hands, I will hide my eyes from you. Yes, when you make many prayers, I will not hear. Your hands are full of blood.
16Wash yourselves. Make yourself clean. Put away the evil of your doings from before my eyes. Cease to do evil.

26I will restore your judges as at the first, and your counselors as at the beginning. Afterward you shall be called ‘The city of righteousness, a faithful town.’
