ô ville pleine de rumeurs, tumultueuse cité, toujours si joyeuse? Tes morts n'ont pas péri par le glaive, n'ont pas succombé dans les combats.

Tú, llena de alborotos, ciudad turbulenta, ciudad alegre; tus muertos no son muertos á cuchillo, ni muertos en guerra.

Thou that art full of stirs, a tumultuous city, a joyous city: thy slain men are not slain with the sword, nor dead in battle.

You that are full of shouting, a tumultuous city, a joyous town, your slain are not slain with the sword, neither are they dead in battle.
