Así que en el año catorce del reinado del rey Ezequías llegó Senaquerib, rey de Asiria, a atacar las ciudades amuralladas de Judá, y las conquistó.
ACONTECIÓ en el año catorce del rey Ezechîas, que Sennachêrib rey de Asiria subió contra todas las ciudades fuertes de Judá, y tomólas.
Now it came to pass in the fourteenth year of king Hezekiah, that Sennacherib king of Assyria came up against all the defenced cities of Judah, and took them.
Now in the fourteenth year of King Hezekiah, Sennacherib king of Assyria attacked all of the fortified cities of Judah and captured them.
Luego, al frente de un gran ejército, envió desde Laquis a su representante personal para que se entrevistara con el rey Ezequías en Jerusalén. Acampó cerca del acueducto del estanque de arriba, por el camino del campo donde se blanquean telas.
Y el rey de Asiria envió á Rabsaces con grande ejército desde Lachîs á Jerusalem al rey Ezechîas: y asentó el campo á los caños de la pesquera de arriba, en el camino de la heredad del Lavador.
And the king of Assyria sent Rabshakeh from Lachish to Jerusalem unto king Hezekiah with a great army. And he stood by the conduit of the upper pool in the highway of the fuller’s field.
The king of Assyria sent Rabshakeh from Lachish to Jerusalem to King Hezekiah with a large army. He stood by the aqueduct from the upper pool in the fuller’s field highway.
Eliaquín, hijo de Jilquías, primer ministro de Israel, Sebna escriba del rey, y Joa, hijo de Asaf, secretario real, se constituyeron en comité de tregua y salieron de la ciudad a su encuentro.
Y salió á él Eliacim hijo de Hilcías mayordomo, y Sebna, escriba, y Joah hijo de Asaph, canciller.
Then came forth unto him Eliakim, Hilkiah’s son, which was over the house, and Shebna the scribe, and Joah, Asaph’s son, the recorder.
Then Eliakim the son of Hilkiah, who was over the household, and Shebna the scribe, and Joah, the son of Asaph the recorder came out to him.
El embajador asirio les dijo que fueran a decirle a Ezequías: «El poderoso rey de Asiria dice que eres un necio si piensas que el rey de Egipto te ayudará.
A los cuales dijo Rabsaces: Ahora pues, diréis á Ezechîas: El gran rey, el rey de Asiria, dice así: ¿Qué confianza es ésta en que confías?
And Rabshakeh said unto them, Say ye now to Hezekiah, Thus saith the great king, the king of Assyria, What confidence is this wherein thou trustest?
Rabshakeh said to them, “Now tell Hezekiah, ‘The great king, the king of Assyria, says, “What confidence is this in which you trust?
¿Qué valor tienen las promesas del faraón? Las palabras solas nada son ante la fuerza, ¡y tú confiando en su ayuda, te has rebelado contra mí!
Digo, alegas tú, (empero palabras vanas) que tengo consejo y fortaleza para la guerra. Ahora bien, ¿en quién confías que te rebelas contra mí?
I say, sayest thou, (but they are but vain words) I have counsel and strength for war: now on whom dost thou trust, that thou rebellest against me?
I say that your counsel and strength for the war are only vain words. Now in whom do you trust, that you have rebelled against me?
Egipto es un aliado peligroso. Es vara afilada que te atravesará la mano si te apoyas en ella. Eso les ha pasado a cuantos han buscado apoyo en él.
He aquí que confías en este bordón de caña frágil, en Egipto, sobre el cual si alguien se apoyare, entrarásele por la mano, y se la atravesará. Tal es Faraón rey de Egipto para con todos los que en él confían.
Lo, thou trustest in the staff of this broken reed, on Egypt; whereon if a man lean, it will go into his hand, and pierce it: so is Pharaoh king of Egypt to all that trust in him.
Behold, you trust in the staff of this bruised reed, even in Egypt, which if a man leans on it, it will go into his hand and pierce it. So is Pharaoh king of Egypt to all who trust in him.
Pero quizá digas: “¡Confiamos en el Señor Dios nuestro!”. ¿Ah, sí? ¿No es acaso el mismo a quien su rey insultó, derribando sus templos y altares en los montes y haciendo que todos los de Judá adoren únicamente en los altares aquí en Jerusalén?
Y si me dijeres, En Jehová nuestro Dios confiamos; ¿no es éste aquel cuyos altos y cuyos altares hizo quitar Ezechîas, y dijo á Judá y á Jerusalem: Delante de este altar adoraréis?
But if thou say to me, We trust in the LORD our God: is it not he, whose high places and whose altars Hezekiah hath taken away, and said to Judah and to Jerusalem, Ye shall worship before this altar?
But if you tell me, ‘We trust in the LORD our God,’ isn’t that he whose high places and whose altars Hezekiah has taken away, and has said to Judah and to Jerusalem, ‘You shall worship before this altar’?”
»Mi señor, el rey de Asiria, quiere hacer contigo una pequeña apuesta: ¿A que en tu ejército no te quedan dos mil hombres? Si te quedan, él te dará dos mil caballos para que ellos los monten. Con tan insignificante ejército, ¿cómo crees poder enfrentarte siquiera al más pequeño escuadrón de mi señor? Porque de Egipto no obtendrás socorro.
Ahora pues yo te ruego que des rehenes al rey de Asiria mi señor, y yo te daré dos mil caballos, si pudieres tú dar caballeros que cabalguen sobre ellos.
Now therefore give pledges, I pray thee, to my master the king of Assyria, and I will give thee two thousand horses, if thou be able on thy part to set riders upon them.
Now therefore, please make a pledge to my master the king of Assyria, and I will give you two thousand horses, if you are able on your part to set riders on them.

¿Cómo pues harás volver el rostro de un capitán de los más pequeños siervos de mi señor, aunque estés confiado en Egipto por sus carros y hombres de á caballo?
How then wilt thou turn away the face of one captain of the least of my master’s servants, and put thy trust on Egypt for chariots and for horsemen?

Es más: ¿crees que he venido acá sin que el Señor me dijera que me apoderara de esta tierra? El Señor me dijo: “Ve y destrúyela”».
¿Y por ventura vine yo ahora á esta tierra para destruirla sin Jehová? Jehová me dijo: Sube á esta tierra para destruirla.
And am I now come up without the LORD against this land to destroy it? the LORD said unto me, Go up against this land, and destroy it.
Have I come up now without the LORD against this land to destroy it? The LORD said to me, “Go up against this land, and destroy it.”’”
Entonces Eliaquín, Sebna y Joa le dijeron: ―Te rogamos que nos hables en arameo que nosotros entendemos bastante bien. No nos hables en hebreo, porque te oirá la gente de la muralla.
Entonces dijo Eliacim, y Sebna y Joah á Rabsaces: Rogámoste que hables á tus siervos en lengua siriaca, porque nosotros la entendemos: y no hables con nosotros en lengua judáica, oyéndolo el pueblo que está sobre el muro.
Then said Eliakim and Shebna and Joah unto Rabshakeh, Speak, I pray thee, unto thy servants in the Syrian language; for we understand it: and speak not to us in the Jews’ language, in the ears of the people that are on the wall.
Then Eliakim, Shebna and Joah said to Rabshakeh, “Please speak to your servants in Aramaic, for we understand it. Don’t speak to us in the Jews’ language in the hearing of the people who are on the wall.”
Pero él respondió: ―Mi señor quiere que todos los de Jerusalén escuchen esto y no solamente ustedes. Quiere que sepan que si no se rinden, esta ciudad será asediada hasta que cada uno tenga tanta hambre y tanta sed que se coma sus propios excrementos y se beba su propia orina.
Y dijo Rabsaces: ¿Envióme mi señor á ti y á tu señor, á que dijese estas palabras, y no á los hombres que están sobre el muro, para comer su estiércol y beber su orina con vosotros?
But Rabshakeh said, Hath my master sent me to thy master and to thee to speak these words? hath he not sent me to the men that sit upon the wall, that they may eat their own dung, and drink their own piss with you?
But Rabshakeh said, “Has my master sent me only to your master and to you, to speak these words, and not to the men who sit on the wall, who will eat their own dung and drink their own urine with you?”
Luego gritó en hebreo a los judíos que escuchaban desde la muralla: ―¡Escuchen las palabras del gran monarca, el rey de Asiria!
Púsose luego en pie Rabsaces, y gritó á grande voz en lengua judáica, diciendo: Oid las palabras del gran rey, el rey de Asiria.
Then Rabshakeh stood, and cried with a loud voice in the Jews’ language, and said, Hear ye the words of the great king, the king of Assyria.

No dejen que los engañe Ezequías; nada que él haga los salvará.
El rey dice así: No os engañe Ezechîas, porque no os podrá librar.
Thus saith the king, Let not Hezekiah deceive you: for he shall not be able to deliver you.
The king says, ‘Don’t let Hezekiah deceive you; for he will not be able to deliver you.
No dejen que les haga confiar en el Señor diciendo que el Señor no permitirá que el rey de Asiria los conquiste.
Ni os haga Ezechîas confiar en Jehová, diciendo: Ciertamente Jehová nos librará: no será entregada esta ciudad en manos del rey de Asiria.
Neither let Hezekiah make you trust in the LORD, saying, The LORD will surely deliver us: this city shall not be delivered into the hand of the king of Assyria.
Don’t let Hezekiah make you trust in the LORD, saying, “The LORD will surely deliver us. This city won’t be given into the hand of the king of Assyria.”’
No escuchen a Ezequías, porque este es el ofrecimiento que el rey de Asiria les hace: Entréguenme un obsequio como prenda de rendición; abran las puertas y salgan, y yo haré que cada uno posea su hacienda, su huerto y agua,
No escuchéis á Ezechîas: porque el rey de Asiria dice así: Haced conmigo paz, y salid á mí; y coma cada uno de su viña, y cada uno de su higuera, y beba cada cual las aguas de su pozo;
Hearken not to Hezekiah: for thus saith the king of Assyria, Make an agreement with me by a present, and come out to me: and eat ye every one of his vine, and every one of his fig tree, and drink ye every one the waters of his own cistern;
Don’t listen to Hezekiah, for the king of Assyria says, ‘Make your peace with me, and come out to me; and each of you eat from his vine, and each one from his fig tree, and each one of you drink the waters of his own cistern;
hasta que haga los arreglos para llevarlos a un país muy semejante a este, a una tierra de abundantes cosechas de trigo y uvas, un país de abundancia.
Hasta que yo venga y os lleve á una tierra como la vuestra, tierra de grano y de vino, tierra de pan y de viñas.
Until I come and take you away to a land like your own land, a land of corn and wine, a land of bread and vineyards.

No permitan que Ezequías los prive de todo esto diciendo que el Señor los librará de mis ejércitos. Los dioses de alguna otra nación, ¿han triunfado jamás sobre los ejércitos del rey de Asiria?
Mirad no os engañe Ezechîas diciendo: Jehová nos librará. ¿Libraron los dioses de las gentes cada uno á su tierra de la mano del rey de Asiria?
Beware lest Hezekiah persuade you, saying, The LORD will deliver us. Hath any of the gods of the nations delivered his land out of the hand of the king of Assyria?
Beware lest Hezekiah persuade you, saying, “The LORD will deliver us.” Have any of the gods of the nations delivered their lands from the hand of the king of Assyria?
¿No recuerdan lo que les hice a Jamat y a Arfad? ¿Los salvaron acaso sus dioses? ¿Y qué de Sefarvayin y Samaria? ¿Dónde están ahora sus dioses?
¿Dónde está el dios de Hamath y de Arphad? ¿dónde está el dios de Sepharvaim? ¿libraron á Samaria de mi mano?
Where are the gods of Hamath and Arphad? where are the gods of Sepharvaim? and have they delivered Samaria out of my hand?
Where are the gods of Hamath and Arpad? Where are the gods of Sepharvaim? Have they delivered Samaria from my hand?
De todos los dioses de estas tierras, ¿cuáles han librado alguna vez de mi poder a su pueblo? ¡Nómbrenme siquiera uno! ¿Y creen que este Dios suyo pueda librar de mis manos a Jerusalén? ¡No sean ridículos!
¿Qué dios hay entre los dioses de estas tierras, que haya librado su tierra de mi mano, para que Jehová libre de mi mano á Jerusalem?
Who are they among all the gods of these lands, that have delivered their land out of my hand, that the LORD should deliver Jerusalem out of my hand?
Who are they among all the gods of these countries that have delivered their country out of my hand, that the LORD should deliver Jerusalem out of my hand?’”
Pero el pueblo permaneció en silencio, no respondió palabra porque Ezequías les había dicho que no replicaran nada.
Mas callaron, y no le respondieron palabra; porque el rey así lo había mandado, diciendo: No le respondáis.
But they held their peace, and answered him not a word: for the king’s commandment was, saying, Answer him not.
But they remained silent, and said nothing in reply, for the king’s commandment was, “Don’t answer him.”
Entonces Eliaquín, hijo de Jilquías, primer ministro, Sebna, el escriba real, y Joa, hijo de Asaf, secretario real, volvieron a donde estaba Ezequías con la ropa hecha trizas en señal de desesperación y le contaron todo lo ocurrido.
Entonces Eliacim hijo de Hilcías mayordomo, y Sebna escriba, y Joah hijo de Asaph canciller, vinieron á Ezechîas rotos sus vestidos, y contáronle las palabras de Rabsaces.
Then came Eliakim, the son of Hilkiah, that was over the household, and Shebna the scribe, and Joah, the son of Asaph, the recorder, to Hezekiah with their clothes rent, and told him the words of Rabshakeh.
Then Eliakim the son of Hilkiah, who was over the household, and Shebna the scribe, and Joah, the son of Asaph the recorder, came to Hezekiah with their clothes torn, and told him the words of Rabshakeh.
