Cuando el rey Ezequías se enteró del resultado de la reunión, rasgó su ropa y se vistió de tela ordinaria de la que se usa para hacer sacos, como señal de humildad y duelo, y fue al templo a orar.
ACONTECIÓ pues, que el rey Ezechîas, oído esto, rasgó sus vestidos, y cubierto de saco vino á la casa de Jehová.

Y mientras tanto envió ante Isaías, el profeta hijo de Amoz, a Eliaquín su primer ministro, a Sebna su escriba real y a los sacerdotes más ancianos, todos vestidos de saco penitencial.
Y envió á Eliacim mayordomo, y á Sebna escriba, y á los ancianos de los sacerdotes, cubiertos de sacos, á Isaías profeta, hijo de Amoz.

Le llevaron este mensaje: «Hoy es día de tribulación, frustración y blasfemia; es tiempo grave, como de parturienta tratando de dar a luz cuando la criatura no sale.
Los cuales le dijeron: Ezechîas dice así: Día de angustia, de reprensión y de blasfemia, es este día: porque los hijos han llegado hasta la rotura, y no hay fuerza en la que pare.
And they said unto him, Thus saith Hezekiah, This day is a day of trouble, and of rebuke, and of blasphemy: for the children are come to the birth, and there is not strength to bring forth.
They said to him, “Hezekiah says, ‘Today is a day of trouble, and of rebuke, and of rejection; for the children have come to the birth, and there is no strength to give birth.
Pero quizá el Señor tu Dios haya oído la blasfemia del representante del rey de Asiria burlándose del Dios viviente. Sin duda no le dejará Dios salirse con la suya, sin duda Dios lo reprenderá por esas palabras. ¡Oh Isaías, ruega por los que hemos quedado!».
Quizá oirá Jehová tu Dios las palabras de Rabsaces, al cual envió el rey de Asiria su señor á blasfemar al Dios vivo, y á reprender con las palabras que oyó Jehová tu Dios: alza pues oración tú por las reliquias que aun han quedado.
It may be the LORD thy God will hear the words of Rabshakeh, whom the king of Assyria his master hath sent to reproach the living God, and will reprove the words which the LORD thy God hath heard: wherefore lift up thy prayer for the remnant that is left.
It may be the LORD your God will hear the words of Rabshakeh, whom the king of Assyria his master has sent to defy the living God, and will rebuke the words which the LORD your God has heard. Therefore lift up your prayer for the remnant that is left.’”
Así fue como le dieron a Isaías el mensaje del rey.
Vinieron pues los siervos de Ezechîas á Isaías.

Isaías respondió: «Díganle al rey Ezequías que el Señor dice: “No te angusties por esas palabras del siervo del rey de Asiria ni por su blasfemia.
Y díjoles Isaías: Diréis así á vuestro señor: Así dice Jehová: No temas por las palabras que has oído, con las cuales me han blasfemado los siervos del rey de Asiria.
And Isaiah said unto them, Thus shall ye say unto your master, Thus saith the LORD, Be not afraid of the words that thou hast heard, wherewith the servants of the king of Assyria have blasphemed me.
Isaiah said to them, “Tell your master, ‘The LORD says, “Don’t be afraid of the words that you have heard, with which the servants of the king of Assyria have blasphemed me.
Porque al rey va a llegarle un mensaje de Asiria informándole que se le necesita allá inmediatamente, y él volverá a su tierra en donde yo haré que lo maten”».
He aquí que yo doy en él un espíritu, y oirá un rumor, y volveráse á su tierra: y yo haré que en su tierra caiga á cuchillo.
Behold, I will send a blast upon him, and he shall hear a rumour, and return to his own land; and I will cause him to fall by the sword in his own land.
Behold, I will put a spirit in him and he will hear news, and will return to his own land. I will cause him to fall by the sword in his own land.”’”
Entonces el enviado asirio partió de Jerusalén y fue a consultar con su rey, el cual había dejado Laquis y estaba poniéndole sitio a Libná. En esto el rey asirio recibió noticias de que Tiracá, príncipe heredero de Etiopía, venía contra él desde el sur. Al oírlo, volvió a enviar mensajeros a Ezequías a Jerusalén con este mensaje:
Vuelto pues Rabsaces, halló al rey de Asiria que batía á Libna; porque ya había oído que se había apartado de Lachîs.

Mas oyendo decir de Tirhakah rey de Etiopía: He aquí que ha salido para hacerte guerra: en oyéndolo, envió mensajeros á Ezechîas, diciendo:

«¡No dejes que este Dios en quien confiaste te engañe prometiéndote que Jerusalén no será tomada por el rey de Asiria!
Diréis así á Ezechîas rey de Judá: No te engañe tu Dios en quien tú confías, diciendo: Jerusalem no será entregada en mano del rey de Asiria.
Thus shall ye speak to Hezekiah king of Judah, saying, Let not thy God, in whom thou trustest, deceive thee, saying, Jerusalem shall not be given into the hand of the king of Assyria.
“Thus you shall speak to Hezekiah king of Judah, saying, ‘Don’t let your God in whom you trust deceive you, saying, “Jerusalem won’t be given into the hand of the king of Assyria.”
Acuérdate de lo que ha ocurrido dondequiera que han llegado los reyes de Asiria, pues han aplastado a todo el que se les ha opuesto. ¿Piensan que ustedes van a ser la excepción?

Y no te olvides de lo ocurrido al rey de Jamat, al rey de Arfad y a los reyes de las ciudades de Sefarvayin, de Hená y de Ivá».

Tan pronto como el rey Ezequías leyó esta carta, fue al templo y la extendió ante el Señor,
Y tomó Ezechîas las cartas de mano de los mensajeros, y leyólas; y subió á la casa de Jehová, y las extendió delante de Jehová.
And Hezekiah received the letter from the hand of the messengers, and read it: and Hezekiah went up unto the house of the LORD, and spread it before the LORD.

«¡Oh Señor Todopoderoso, Dios de Israel, entronizado por encima de los querubines, sólo tú eres Dios de todos los reinos de la tierra! Tú solo hiciste el cielo y la tierra. Escucha mi súplica, mírame orar. Mira esta carta del rey Senaquerib, pues él se ha burlado del Dios viviente.
Jehová de los ejércitos, Dios de Israel, que moras entre los querubines, sólo tú eres Dios sobre todos los reinos de la tierra; tú hiciste los cielos y la tierra.
O LORD of hosts, God of Israel, that dwellest between the cherubims, thou art the God, even thou alone, of all the kingdoms of the earth: thou hast made heaven and earth.
“LORD of Armies, the God of Israel, who is enthroned among the cherubim, you are the God, even you alone, of all the kingdoms of the earth. You have made heaven and earth.

Inclina, oh Jehová, tu oído, y oye; abre, oh Jehová, tus ojos, y mira: y oye todas las palabras de Sennachêrib, el cual ha enviado á blasfemar al Dios viviente.
Incline thine ear, O LORD, and hear; open thine eyes, O LORD, and see: and hear all the words of Sennacherib, which hath sent to reproach the living God.
Turn your ear, LORD, and hear. Open your eyes, LORD, and behold. Hear all of the words of Sennacherib, who has sent to defy the living God.
Cierto es, Señor, que los reyes de Asiria han destruido a todas esas naciones tal como lo dice la carta,
Ciertamente, oh Jehová, los reyes de Asiria destruyeron todas las tierras y sus comarcas,
Of a truth, LORD, the kings of Assyria have laid waste all the nations, and their countries,
Truly, LORD, the kings of Assyria have destroyed all the countries and their land,
y que han lanzado sus dioses al fuego, porque esos no eran dioses, sino simples ídolos, labrados en madera y piedra por los hombres. Naturalmente los asirios podían destruirlos.
Y entregaron los dioses de ellos al fuego: porque no eran dioses, sino obra de manos de hombre, leño y piedra: por eso los deshicieron.

Entonces Isaías, hijo de Amoz, envió este mensaje al rey Ezequías: «El Señor Dios de Israel dice: “Esta es mi respuesta a tu plegaria contra Senaquerib, el rey de Asiria”.

»El Señor le dice: “Mi pueblo —la indefensa y virgen hija de Sion— se ríe y se mofa de ti, y mueve la cabeza burlonamente.
Esto es lo que Jehová habló de él: Hate menospreciado, y ha hecho escarnio de ti la virgen hija de Sión: meneó su cabeza á tus espaldas la hija de Jerusalem.
This is the word which the LORD hath spoken concerning him; The virgin, the daughter of Zion, hath despised thee, and laughed thee to scorn; the daughter of Jerusalem hath shaken her head at thee.

¿De quién te has burlado y mofado tú? ¿A quién has injuriado? ¿Contra quién enfilaste tu violencia y orgullo? ¡Fue contra el Santo de Israel!
¿A quién injuriaste y á quién blasfemaste? ¿contra quién has alzado tu voz, y levantado tus ojos en alto? Contra el Santo de Israel.
Whom hast thou reproached and blasphemed? and against whom hast thou exalted thy voice, and lifted up thine eyes on high? even against the Holy One of Israel.

Enviaste tus mensajeros a burlarse del Señor. Dices jactancioso: ‘Vine con mi potente ejército contra las naciones del oeste. Talé los más altos cedros y los mejores cipreses. Dominé tus más elevados montes y destruí tus bosques más tupidos’.
Por mano de tus siervos denostaste al Señor, y dijiste: Yo con la multitud de mis carros subiré á las alturas de los montes, á las laderas del Líbano; cortaré sus altos cedros, sus hayas escogidas; vendré después á lo alto de su límite, al monte de su Carmel.
By thy servants hast thou reproached the Lord, and hast said, By the multitude of my chariots am I come up to the height of the mountains, to the sides of Lebanon; and I will cut down the tall cedars thereof, and the choice fir trees thereof: and I will enter into the height of his border, and the forest of his Carmel.
By your servants, you have defied the Lord, and have said, “With the multitude of my chariots I have come up to the height of the mountains, to the innermost parts of Lebanon. I will cut down its tall cedars and its choice cypress trees. I will enter into its farthest height, the forest of its fruitful field.
Te jactas de haber abierto pozos en muchas tierras conquistadas, y Egipto con todo su ejército no constituye obstáculo para ti.
Yo cavé, y bebí las aguas; y con las pisadas de mis pies secaré todos los ríos de lugares atrincherados.
I have digged, and drunk water; and with the sole of my feet have I dried up all the rivers of the besieged places.

»”Pero ¿todavía ignoras que fui yo quien decidí y permití todo esto desde hace mucho? Yo hice que todo ocurriera tal como lo planeé: que derribaras las ciudades amuralladas convirtiéndolas en ruinas.
¿No has oído decir que de mucho tiempo ha yo lo hice, que de días antiguos lo he formado? Helo hecho venir ahora, y será para destrucción de ciudades fuertes en montones de ruinas.
Hast thou not heard long ago, how I have done it; and of ancient times, that I have formed it? now have I brought it to pass, that thou shouldest be to lay waste defenced cities into ruinous heaps.
“‘Have you not heard how I have done it long ago, and formed it in ancient times? Now I have brought it to pass, that it should be yours to destroy fortified cities, turning them into ruinous heaps.
Por eso te ofrecieron tan poca resistencia sus pueblos y fueron tan fácil presa para ti. Fueron tan indefensos como la hierba, como las tiernas plantas que aplastas con los pies, como la hierba de los tejados marchitada por el sol.
Y sus moradores, cortos de manos, quebrantados y confusos, serán como grama del campo y hortaliza verde, como hierba de los tejados, que antes de sazón se seca.
Therefore their inhabitants were of small power, they were dismayed and confounded: they were as the grass of the field, and as the green herb, as the grass on the housetops, and as corn blasted before it be grown up.

»”Pero yo te conozco bien, tus idas y venidas y cuanto haces, y la forma en que me has ofendido.
Conocido he tu estado, tu salida y tu entrada, y tu furor contra mí.
But I know thy abode, and thy going out, and thy coming in, and thy rage against me.
But I know your sitting down, your going out, your coming in, and your raging against me.
Eso fue por causa de tu ira contra el Señor, ¡y yo lo escuché todo!, por eso te he puesto un gancho en la nariz y una brida en la boca y te he llevado de regreso a tu tierra por el camino en que viniste”».
Porque contra mí te airaste, y tu estruendo ha subido á mis oídos: pondré pues mi anzuelo en tu nariz, y mi freno en tus labios, y haréte tornar por el camino por donde viniste.
Because thy rage against me, and thy tumult, is come up into mine ears, therefore will I put my hook in thy nose, and my bridle in thy lips, and I will turn thee back by the way by which thou camest.

Entonces Dios le dijo a Ezequías: «Esta es la prueba de que yo soy quien libra del rey asirio a esta ciudad: Este año él levantará el asedio. Aunque ya es demasiado tarde para la siembra y no cuentes para este otoño con más trigo que el que por sí mismo se produzca, su rendimiento te dará semilla suficiente para el año entrante, y dentro de dos años, contando a partir de hoy, volverán a vivir en la abundancia.
Y esto te será por señal: Comerás este año lo que nace de suyo, y el año segundo lo que nace de suyo: y el año tercero sembraréis y segaréis, y plantaréis viñas, y comeréis su fruto.
And this shall be a sign unto thee, Ye shall eat this year such as groweth of itself; and the second year that which springeth of the same: and in the third year sow ye, and reap, and plant vineyards, and eat the fruit thereof.
“‘This shall be the sign to you: You will eat this year that which grows of itself, and in the second year that which springs from it; and in the third year sow and reap and plant vineyards, and eat their fruit.
Y los que han quedado en Judá arraigarán de nuevo en su suelo, florecerán y se multiplicarán,
Y el residuo de la casa de Judá que hubiere escapado, tornará á echar raíz abajo, y hará fruto arriba.
And the remnant that is escaped of the house of Judah shall again take root downward, and bear fruit upward:

porque de Jerusalén saldrá un remanente a repoblar el país. El poder del Señor Todopoderoso hará que ocurra todo esto.
Porque de Jerusalem saldrán reliquias, y del monte de Sión salvamento: el celo de Jehová de los ejércitos hará esto.
For out of Jerusalem shall go forth a remnant, and they that escape out of mount Zion: the zeal of the LORD of hosts shall do this.
For out of Jerusalem a remnant will go out, and survivors will escape from Mount Zion. The zeal of the LORD of Armies will perform this.’
»En cuanto al rey de Asiria: Sus ejércitos no entrarán en Jerusalén, ni dispararán en ella sus flechas, ni marcharán ante sus puertas, ni edificarán muro de asalto contra sus murallas.
Por tanto, así dice Jehová acerca del rey de Asiria: No entrará en esta ciudad, ni echará saeta en ella: no vendrá delante de ella escudo, ni será echado contra ella baluarte.
Therefore thus saith the LORD concerning the king of Assyria, He shall not come into this city, nor shoot an arrow there, nor come before it with shields, nor cast a bank against it.
“Therefore the LORD says concerning the king of Assyria, ‘He will not come to this city, nor shoot an arrow there, neither will he come before it with shield, nor cast up a mound against it.
Él regresará a su tierra por donde vino y jamás entrará en esta ciudad. Lo dice el Señor.
Por el camino que vino se tornará, y no entrará en esta ciudad, dice Jehová:
By the way that he came, by the same shall he return, and shall not come into this city, saith the LORD.
He will return the way that he came, and he won’t come to this city,’ says the LORD.
Por mi propia honra y en recuerdo de mi siervo David la defenderé».
Pues yo ampararé á esta ciudad para salvarla por amor de mí, y por amor de David mi siervo.
For I will defend this city to save it for mine own sake, and for my servant David’s sake.
‘For I will defend this city to save it, for my own sake, and for my servant David’s sake.’”
Aquella noche el ángel del Señor salió y fue al campo de los asirios y mató a ciento ochenta y cinco mil soldados. Cuando al día siguiente se despertaron los sobrevivientes, vieron ante sí los millares de cadáveres.
Y salió el ángel de Jehová, é hirió ciento ochenta y cinco mil en el campo de los Asirios: y cuando se levantaron por la mañana, he aquí que todo era cuerpos de muertos.
Then the angel of the LORD went forth, and smote in the camp of the Assyrians a hundred and fourscore and five thousand: and when they arose early in the morning, behold, they were all dead corpses.

Entonces Senaquerib, rey de Asiria, regresó a su tierra, a Nínive.

Y cierto día en que oraba en el templo de Nisroc su dios, sus hijos Adramélec y Sarézer lo mataron a espada, luego huyeron a la tierra de Ararat. Y su hijo Esarjadón ocupó el trono.
Y acaeció, que estando orando en el templo de Nisroch su dios, Adremelech y Sarezer, sus hijos, le hirieron á cuchillo, y huyeron á la tierra de Ararat; y reinó en su lugar Esar-hadón su hijo.
And it came to pass, as he was worshipping in the house of Nisroch his god, that Adrammelech and Sharezer his sons smote him with the sword; and they escaped into the land of Armenia: and Esar-haddon his son reigned in his stead.
As he was worshiping in the house of Nisroch his god, Adrammelech and Sharezer his sons struck him with the sword; and they escaped into the land of Ararat. Esar Haddon his son reigned in his place.
