Mes frères, regardez comme un sujet d’une parfaite joie quand vous serez exposés à diverses épreuves.

Hermanos míos, tened por sumo gozo cuando cayereis en diversas tentaciones;

My brethren, count it all joy when ye fall into divers temptations;

Count it all joy, my brothers, when you fall into various temptations,

Sachant que l’épreuve de votre foi produit la patience.

Sabiendo que la prueba de vuestra fe obra paciencia.

Knowing this, that the trying of your faith worketh patience.

knowing that the testing of your faith produces endurance.

Mais il faut que la patience ait une oeuvre parfaite, afin que vous soyez parfaits et accomplis, de sorte que rien ne vous manque.

Mas tenga la paciencia perfecta su obra, para que seáis perfectos y cabales, sin faltar en alguna cosa.

But let patience have her perfect work, that ye may be perfect and entire, wanting nothing.

Let endurance have its perfect work, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing.

Que si quelqu’un de vous manque de sagesse, qu’il la demande à Dieu, qui la donne à tous libéralement, et qui ne la reproche point, et elle lui sera donnée ;

Y si alguno de vosotros tiene falta de sabiduría, demándela á Dios, el cual da á todos abundantemente, y no zahiere; y le será dada.

If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him.

But if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him.

Mais qu’il la demande avec foi, ne doutant nullement ; car celui qui doute est semblable au flot de la mer, agité du vent, et jeté çà et là.

Pero pida en fe, no dudando nada: porque el que duda es semejante á la onda de la mar, que es movida del viento, y echada de una parte á otra.

But let him ask in faith, nothing wavering. For he that wavereth is like a wave of the sea driven with the wind and tossed.

But let him ask in faith, without any doubting, for he who doubts is like a wave of the sea, driven by the wind and tossed.

Or qu’un tel homme ne s’attende point de recevoir aucune chose du Seigneur.

No piense pues el tal hombre que recibirá ninguna cosa del Señor.

For let not that man think that he shall receive any thing of the Lord.

For that man shouldn’t think that he will receive anything from the Lord.

L’homme double de coeur est inconstant en toutes ses voies.

El hombre de doblado ánimo es inconstante en todos sus caminos.

A double minded man is unstable in all his ways.

He is a double-minded man, unstable in all his ways.

Or que le frère qui est de basse condition se glorifie en son élévation.

El hermano que es de baja suerte, gloríese en su alteza:

Let the brother of low degree rejoice in that he is exalted:

Let the brother in humble circumstances glory in his high position;

Et que le riche, au contraire, se glorifie en sa basse condition ; car il passera comme la fleur de l’herbe.

Mas el que es rico, en su bajeza; porque él se pasará como la flor de la hierba.

But the rich, in that he is made low: because as the flower of the grass he shall pass away.

and the rich, in that he is made humble, because like the flower in the grass, he will pass away.

Car comme le soleil ardent n’est pas plutôt levé, que l’herbe est brûlée, que sa fleur tombe et que sa beauté périt ; ainsi le riche se flétrira avec ses entreprises.

Porque salido el sol con ardor, la hierba se secó, y su flor se cayó, y pereció su hermosa apariencia: así también se marchitará el rico en todos sus caminos.

For the sun is no sooner risen with a burning heat, but it withereth the grass, and the flower thereof falleth, and the grace of the fashion of it perisheth: so also shall the rich man fade away in his ways.

For the sun arises with the scorching wind and withers the grass; and the flower in it falls, and the beauty of its appearance perishes. So the rich man will also fade away in his pursuits.

Bienheureux est l’homme qui endure la tentation ; car quand il aura été éprouvé, il recevra la couronne de vie, que Dieu a promise à ceux qui l’aiment.

Bienaventurado el varón que sufre la tentación; porque cuando fuere probado, recibirá la corona de vida, que Dios ha prometido á los que le aman.

Blessed is the man that endureth temptation: for when he is tried, he shall receive the crown of life, which the Lord hath promised to them that love him.

Blessed is a person who endures temptation, for when he has been approved, he will receive the crown of life which the Lord promised to those who love him.

Quand quelqu’un est tenté, qu’il ne dise point : je suis tenté de Dieu ; car Dieu ne peut être tenté par le mal, et aussi ne tente-t-il personne.

Cuando alguno es tentado, no diga que es tentado de Dios: porque Dios no puede ser tentado de los malos, ni él tienta á alguno:

Let no man say when he is tempted, I am tempted of God: for God cannot be tempted with evil, neither tempteth he any man:

Let no man say when he is tempted, “I am tempted by God,” for God can’t be tempted by evil, and he himself tempts no one.

Mais chacun est tenté quand il est attiré et amorcé par sa propre convoitise.

Sino que cada uno es tentado, cuando de su propia concupiscencia es atraído, y cebado.

But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed.

But each one is tempted when he is drawn away by his own lust and enticed.

Puis quand la convoitise a conçu, elle enfante le péché, et le péché étant consommé, produit la mort.

Y la concupiscencia, después que ha concebido, pare el pecado: y el pecado, siendo cumplido, engendra muerte.

Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin: and sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death.

Then the lust, when it has conceived, bears sin. The sin, when it is full grown, produces death.

Mes frères bien-aimés ne vous abusez point :

Amados hermanos míos, no erréis.

Do not err, my beloved brethren.

Don’t be deceived, my beloved brothers.

Tout le bien qui nous est donné, et tout don parfait vient d’en haut, descendant du Père des lumières, par devers lequel il n’y a point de variation, ni d’ombre de changement.

Toda buena dádiva y todo don perfecto es de lo alto, que desciende del Padre de las luces, en el cual no hay mudanza, ni sombra de variación.

Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning.

Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom can be no variation nor turning shadow.

Il nous a de sa propre volonté engendrés par la parole de la vérité, afin que nous fussions comme les prémices de ses créatures.

El, de su voluntad nos ha engendrado por la palabra de verdad, para que seamos primicias de sus criaturas.

Of his own will begat he us with the word of truth, that we should be a kind of firstfruits of his creatures.

Of his own will he gave birth to us by the word of truth, that we should be a kind of first fruits of his creatures.

Ainsi, mes frères bien-aimés, que tout homme soit prompt à écouter, lent à parler, et lent à la colère ;

Por esto, mis amados hermanos, todo hombre sea pronto para oir, tardío para hablar, tardío para airarse:

Wherefore, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath:

So, then, my beloved brothers, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, and slow to anger;

Car la colère de l’homme n’acccomplit point la justice de Dieu.

Porque la ira del hombre no obra la justicia de Dios.

For the wrath of man worketh not the righteousness of God.

for the anger of man doesn’t produce the righteousness of God.

C’est pourquoi rejetant toute souillure, et toute superfluité de malice, recevez avec douceur la parole plantée en vous, laquelle peut sauver vos âmes ;

Por lo cual, dejando toda inmundicia y superfluidad de malicia, recibid con mansedumbre la palabra ingerida, la cual puede hacer salvas vuestras almas.

Wherefore lay apart all filthiness and superfluity of naughtiness, and receive with meekness the engrafted word, which is able to save your souls.

Therefore, putting away all filthiness and overflowing of wickedness, receive with humility the implanted word, which is able to save your souls.

Et mettez en exécution la parole, et ne l’écoutez pas seulement, en vous décevant vous-mêmes par de vains discours.

Mas sed hacedores de la palabra, y no tan solamente oidores, engañándoos á vosotros mismos.

But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves.

But be doers of the word, and not only hearers, deluding your own selves.

Car si quelqu’un écoute la parole, et ne la met point en exécution, il est semblable à un homme qui considère dans un miroir sa face naturelle ;

Porque si alguno oye la palabra, y no la pone por obra, este tal es semejante al hombre que considera en un espejo su rostro natural.

For if any be a hearer of the word, and not a doer, he is like unto a man beholding his natural face in a glass:

For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man looking at his natural face in a mirror;

Car après s’être considéré soi-même, et s’en être allé, il a aussitôt oublié quel il était.

Porque él se consideró á sí mismo, y se fué, y luego se olvidó qué tal era.

For he beholdeth himself, and goeth his way, and straightway forgetteth what manner of man he was.

for he sees himself, and goes away, and immediately forgets what kind of man he was.

Mais celui qui aura regardé au-dedans de la Loi parfaite, qui est la Loi de la liberté ; et qui aura persévéré, n’étant point un auditeur oublieux, mais s’appliquant à l’oeuvre qui lui est prescrite, celui-là sera heureux dans ce qu’il aura fait.

Mas el que hubiere mirado atentamente en la perfecta ley, que es la de la libertad, y perseverado en ella, no siendo oidor olvidadizo, sino hacedor de la obra, este tal será bienaventurado en su hecho.

But whoso looketh into the perfect law of liberty, and continueth therein, he being not a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work, this man shall be blessed in his deed.

But he who looks into the perfect law of freedom and continues, not being a hearer who forgets but a doer of the work, this man will be blessed in what he does.

Si quelqu’un entre vous pense être religieux, et il ne tient point en bride sa langue, mais séduit son coeur, la religion d’un tel homme est vaine.

Si alguno piensa ser religioso entre vosotros, y no refrena su lengua, sino engañando su corazón, la religión del tal es vana.

If any man among you seem to be religious, and bridleth not his tongue, but deceiveth his own heart, this man’s religion is vain.

If anyone among you thinks himself to be religious while he doesn’t bridle his tongue, but deceives his heart, this man’s religion is worthless.

La Religion pure et sans tache envers notre Dieu et notre Père, c’est de visiter les orphelins et les veuves dans leurs afflictions, et de se conserver pur des souillures de ce monde.

La religión pura y sin mácula delante de Dios y Padre es esta: Visitar los huérfanos y las viudas en sus tribulaciones, y guardarse sin mancha de este mundo.

Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this, To visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep himself unspotted from the world.

Pure religion and undefiled before our God and Father is this: to visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep oneself unstained by the world.
