Ich, Jakobus, ein Knecht Gottes und des Herrn Jesus Christus, sende den zwölf in der Zerstreuung (unter den Heiden) lebenden Stämmen meinen Gruß.

Erachtet es für lauter Freude, meine Brüder, wenn ihr in mancherlei Versuchungen geratet;

ihr erkennt ja, daß die Bewährung eures Glaubens standhaftes Ausharren bewirkt.

Sabiendo que la prueba de vuestra fe obra paciencia.

Knowing this, that the trying of your faith worketh patience.

Das standhafte Ausharren muß aber zu voller Betätigung führen, damit ihr vollkommen und tadellos seid und sich in keiner Beziehung ein Mangel an euch zeigt.

Mas tenga la paciencia perfecta su obra, para que seáis perfectos y cabales, sin faltar en alguna cosa.

But let patience have her perfect work, that ye may be perfect and entire, wanting nothing.

Let endurance have its perfect work, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing.

Sollte aber jemand von euch Mangel an Weisheit haben, so erbitte er sie sich von Gott, der allen ohne weiteres und ohne laute Vorwürfe gibt: dann wird sie ihm zuteil werden.

Y si alguno de vosotros tiene falta de sabiduría, demándela á Dios, el cual da á todos abundantemente, y no zahiere; y le será dada.

If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him.

But if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him.

Nur bitte er im Glauben, ohne irgendeinen Zweifel zu hegen; denn wer da zweifelt, der gleicht einer vom Wind getriebenen und hin und her geworfenen Meereswoge.

Pero pida en fe, no dudando nada: porque el que duda es semejante á la onda de la mar, que es movida del viento, y echada de una parte á otra.

But let him ask in faith, nothing wavering. For he that wavereth is like a wave of the sea driven with the wind and tossed.

Ein solcher Mensch darf nicht erwarten, daß er etwas vom Herrn empfangen werde,

No piense pues el tal hombre que recibirá ninguna cosa del Señor.

For let not that man think that he shall receive any thing of the Lord.

er, ein Mann mit zwei Seelen, unbeständig auf allen seinen Wegen.

Es rühme sich aber der niedrig stehende Bruder seiner Höhe,

El hermano que es de baja suerte, gloríese en su alteza:

Let the brother of low degree rejoice in that he is exalted:

Let the brother in humble circumstances glory in his high position;

der reiche dagegen seiner Niedrigkeit, weil er wie die Blumen des Grases vergehen wird.

Mas el que es rico, en su bajeza; porque él se pasará como la flor de la hierba.

But the rich, in that he is made low: because as the flower of the grass he shall pass away.

and the rich, in that he is made humble, because like the flower in the grass, he will pass away.

Denn die Sonne geht mit ihrer Glut auf und versengt das Gras; dann fallen seine Blumen ab, und seine ganze Schönheit ist dahin: so wird auch der Reiche in seinen Wegen verwelken. –

Porque salido el sol con ardor, la hierba se secó, y su flor se cayó, y pereció su hermosa apariencia: así también se marchitará el rico en todos sus caminos.

For the sun is no sooner risen with a burning heat, but it withereth the grass, and the flower thereof falleth, and the grace of the fashion of it perisheth: so also shall the rich man fade away in his ways.

For the sun arises with the scorching wind and withers the grass; and the flower in it falls, and the beauty of its appearance perishes. So the rich man will also fade away in his pursuits.

Selig ist der Mann, der die Versuchung standhaft erträgt! Denn nachdem er sich bewährt hat, wird er das Leben als Siegeskranz empfangen, den er denen verheißen hat, die ihn lieben.

Bienaventurado el varón que sufre la tentación; porque cuando fuere probado, recibirá la corona de vida, que Dios ha prometido á los que le aman.

Blessed is the man that endureth temptation: for when he is tried, he shall receive the crown of life, which the Lord hath promised to them that love him.

Blessed is a person who endures temptation, for when he has been approved, he will receive the crown of life which the Lord promised to those who love him.

Niemand sage, wenn er (zum Bösen) versucht wird: »Von Gott werde ich versucht«; denn Gott kann nicht vom Bösen versucht werden, versucht aber auch seinerseits niemand.

Cuando alguno es tentado, no diga que es tentado de Dios: porque Dios no puede ser tentado de los malos, ni él tienta á alguno:

Let no man say when he is tempted, I am tempted of God: for God cannot be tempted with evil, neither tempteth he any man:

Let no man say when he is tempted, “I am tempted by God,” for God can’t be tempted by evil, and he himself tempts no one.

Nein, ein jeder wird (zum Bösen) versucht, indem er von seiner eigenen Lust gereizt und gelockt wird.

Sino que cada uno es tentado, cuando de su propia concupiscencia es atraído, y cebado.

But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed.

But each one is tempted when he is drawn away by his own lust and enticed.

Sodann, wenn die Lust empfangen hat, gebiert sie Sünde; die Sünde aber gebiert, wenn sie zur Vollendung gekommen ist, den Tod. –

Y la concupiscencia, después que ha concebido, pare el pecado: y el pecado, siendo cumplido, engendra muerte.

Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin: and sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death.

Irret euch nicht, meine geliebten Brüder:

Amados hermanos míos, no erréis.

lauter gute Gabe und lauter vollkommenes Geschenk kommt von oben herab, vom Vater der Himmelslichter, bei dem keine Veränderung und keine zeitweilige Verdunkelung stattfindet.

Toda buena dádiva y todo don perfecto es de lo alto, que desciende del Padre de las luces, en el cual no hay mudanza, ni sombra de variación.

denn der Zorn des Menschen tut nichts, was vor Gott recht ist.

Porque la ira del hombre no obra la justicia de Dios.

For the wrath of man worketh not the righteousness of God.

for the anger of man doesn’t produce the righteousness of God.

Darum legt alle Unsauberkeit und den letzten Rest der Bosheit ab, und nehmt mit Sanftmut das euch eingepflanzte Wort an, das eure Seelen zu retten vermag.

Por lo cual, dejando toda inmundicia y superfluidad de malicia, recibid con mansedumbre la palabra ingerida, la cual puede hacer salvas vuestras almas.

Wherefore lay apart all filthiness and superfluity of naughtiness, and receive with meekness the engrafted word, which is able to save your souls.

Therefore, putting away all filthiness and overflowing of wickedness, receive with humility the implanted word, which is able to save your souls.

Seid aber Täter des Wortes und nicht bloß Hörer, sonst betrügt ihr euch selbst.

But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves.

Denn wer nur ein Hörer des Wortes ist, aber kein Täter, der gleicht einem Menschen, der sein leibliches Gesicht im Spiegel beschaut;

Porque si alguno oye la palabra, y no la pone por obra, este tal es semejante al hombre que considera en un espejo su rostro natural.

For if any be a hearer of the word, and not a doer, he is like unto a man beholding his natural face in a glass:

For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man looking at his natural face in a mirror;

denn nachdem er sich beschaut hat und weggegangen ist, vergißt er alsbald, wie er ausgesehen hat.

Porque él se consideró á sí mismo, y se fué, y luego se olvidó qué tal era.

For he beholdeth himself, and goeth his way, and straightway forgetteth what manner of man he was.

for he sees himself, and goes away, and immediately forgets what kind of man he was.

Wer dagegen in das vollkommene Gesetz der Freiheit hineingeschaut hat und bei ihm verbleibt, indem er nicht ein vergeßlicher Hörer, sondern ein wirklicher Täter ist, der wird in seinem Tun selig sein.

Mas el que hubiere mirado atentamente en la perfecta ley, que es la de la libertad, y perseverado en ella, no siendo oidor olvidadizo, sino hacedor de la obra, este tal será bienaventurado en su hecho.

But whoso looketh into the perfect law of liberty, and continueth therein, he being not a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work, this man shall be blessed in his deed.

But he who looks into the perfect law of freedom and continues, not being a hearer who forgets but a doer of the work, this man will be blessed in what he does.

Wenn jemand Gott zu dienen meint und dabei seine Zunge nicht im Zaume hält, vielmehr sein Herz betrügt, dessen Gottesdienst ist nichtig.

Si alguno piensa ser religioso entre vosotros, y no refrena su lengua, sino engañando su corazón, la religión del tal es vana.

If any man among you seem to be religious, and bridleth not his tongue, but deceiveth his own heart, this man’s religion is vain.

If anyone among you thinks himself to be religious while he doesn’t bridle his tongue, but deceives his heart, this man’s religion is worthless.

Ein reiner und fleckenloser Gottesdienst vor Gott dem Vater besteht darin, daß man Waisen und Witwen in ihrer Trübsal besucht und sich selbst von der Welt unbefleckt erhält.

La religión pura y sin mácula delante de Dios y Padre es esta: Visitar los huérfanos y las viudas en sus tribulaciones, y guardarse sin mancha de este mundo.

Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this, To visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep himself unspotted from the world.
