1Santiago, siervo de Dios y del Señor Jesucristo, saluda a las doce tribus que se hallan dispersas por todo el mundo.
2Hermanos míos, que les dé gran alegría cuando pasen por diferentes pruebas,
3pues ya saben que cuando su fe sea puesta a prueba, producirá en ustedes firmeza.
4Y cuando se desarrolle completamente la firmeza, serán perfectos y maduros, sin que les falte nada.
5Si a alguno de ustedes le falta sabiduría, pídasela a Dios. Él se la dará, porque Dios da a todos en abundancia sin hacer ningún reproche.
6Pero debe pedirla con fe, sin dudar, ya que el que duda es como las olas del mar que el viento agita y lleva de un lado a otro.
7El que es así, no piense que va a recibir alguna cosa del Señor,
8porque no es capaz de tomar decisiones ni es constante en lo que hace.
9El hermano de condición humilde debe sentirse orgulloso de lo mucho que vale;
10y el rico, de su humilde condición. El rico se marchitará como la flor del campo.
11Cuando el sol sale, seca la planta con su calor intenso. A la planta se le marchita la flor y pierde su belleza. Así se marchitará también el rico en todos sus negocios.
12Dichoso el que permanece firme durante la prueba, porque cuando la supera, recibe la corona de la vida que Dios ha prometido a los que lo aman.
13Nadie debe decir, cuando es tentado, que es Dios el que lo tienta. Porque Dios no puede ser tentado por el mal, ni él tampoco tienta a nadie.
14Al contrario, cada uno es tentado por sus propios malos deseos que lo arrastran y seducen.
15Los malos deseos dan a luz el pecado. Después, cuando el pecado se desarrolla completamente, da a luz la muerte.
16Mis queridos hermanos, no se engañen.
17De lo alto nos viene todo lo bueno y perfecto. Allí es donde está el Padre que creó todos los astros del cielo, y que no cambia como las sombras.
18Él quiso darnos vida por medio de la palabra de verdad, para que fuéramos los primeros frutos de su creación.
19Mis queridos hermanos, pongan atención: Todos ustedes deben estar listos para escuchar, pero deben ser lentos para hablar y para enojarse.
20Porque el enojo no deja a la gente vivir con justicia como Dios quiere.
21Por eso, despójense de toda suciedad y de la maldad que tanto abunda. De esa manera podrán recibir con humildad la palabra sembrada en ustedes. Esta palabra tiene poder para salvarles la vida.
22Pongan en práctica la palabra y no se limiten a sólo escucharla pues de otra manera se engañan ustedes mismos.
23El que escucha la palabra pero no la pone en práctica es como el que mira su cara en un espejo
24y, en cuanto se va, se olvida de cómo era.
25Pero el que pone su atención en la ley perfecta que da libertad, y sigue en ella sin olvidar lo que ha oído y hace lo que ella dice, será dichoso en lo que hace.
26Si alguien se cree religioso pero no controla su lengua, se engaña a sí mismo, y su religión no sirve para nada.
27La religión pura y sin mancha que a Dios le agrada es esta: ayudar a los huérfanos y a las viudas en sus problemas, y estar siempre limpio sin mancharse con la maldad del mundo.

1JACOBO, siervo de Dios y del Señor Jesucristo, á las doce tribus que están esparcidas, salud.
2Hermanos míos, tened por sumo gozo cuando cayereis en diversas tentaciones;
3Sabiendo que la prueba de vuestra fe obra paciencia.
4Mas tenga la paciencia perfecta su obra, para que seáis perfectos y cabales, sin faltar en alguna cosa.
5Y si alguno de vosotros tiene falta de sabiduría, demándela á Dios, el cual da á todos abundantemente, y no zahiere; y le será dada.
6Pero pida en fe, no dudando nada: porque el que duda es semejante á la onda de la mar, que es movida del viento, y echada de una parte á otra.
7No piense pues el tal hombre que recibirá ninguna cosa del Señor.
8El hombre de doblado ánimo es inconstante en todos sus caminos.
9El hermano que es de baja suerte, gloríese en su alteza:
10Mas el que es rico, en su bajeza; porque él se pasará como la flor de la hierba.
11Porque salido el sol con ardor, la hierba se secó, y su flor se cayó, y pereció su hermosa apariencia: así también se marchitará el rico en todos sus caminos.
12Bienaventurado el varón que sufre la tentación; porque cuando fuere probado, recibirá la corona de vida, que Dios ha prometido á los que le aman.
13Cuando alguno es tentado, no diga que es tentado de Dios: porque Dios no puede ser tentado de los malos, ni él tienta á alguno:
14Sino que cada uno es tentado, cuando de su propia concupiscencia es atraído, y cebado.
15Y la concupiscencia, después que ha concebido, pare el pecado: y el pecado, siendo cumplido, engendra muerte.
16Amados hermanos míos, no erréis.
17Toda buena dádiva y todo don perfecto es de lo alto, que desciende del Padre de las luces, en el cual no hay mudanza, ni sombra de variación.
18El, de su voluntad nos ha engendrado por la palabra de verdad, para que seamos primicias de sus criaturas.
19Por esto, mis amados hermanos, todo hombre sea pronto para oir, tardío para hablar, tardío para airarse:
20Porque la ira del hombre no obra la justicia de Dios.
21Por lo cual, dejando toda inmundicia y superfluidad de malicia, recibid con mansedumbre la palabra ingerida, la cual puede hacer salvas vuestras almas.
22Mas sed hacedores de la palabra, y no tan solamente oidores, engañándoos á vosotros mismos.
23Porque si alguno oye la palabra, y no la pone por obra, este tal es semejante al hombre que considera en un espejo su rostro natural.
24Porque él se consideró á sí mismo, y se fué, y luego se olvidó qué tal era.
25Mas el que hubiere mirado atentamente en la perfecta ley, que es la de la libertad, y perseverado en ella, no siendo oidor olvidadizo, sino hacedor de la obra, este tal será bienaventurado en su hecho.
26Si alguno piensa ser religioso entre vosotros, y no refrena su lengua, sino engañando su corazón, la religión del tal es vana.
27La religión pura y sin mácula delante de Dios y Padre es esta: Visitar los huérfanos y las viudas en sus tribulaciones, y guardarse sin mancha de este mundo.

1James, a servant of God and of the Lord Jesus Christ, to the twelve tribes which are scattered abroad, greeting.
2My brethren, count it all joy when ye fall into divers temptations;
3Knowing this, that the trying of your faith worketh patience.
4But let patience have her perfect work, that ye may be perfect and entire, wanting nothing.
5If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him.
6But let him ask in faith, nothing wavering. For he that wavereth is like a wave of the sea driven with the wind and tossed.
7For let not that man think that he shall receive any thing of the Lord.
8A double minded man is unstable in all his ways.
9Let the brother of low degree rejoice in that he is exalted:
10But the rich, in that he is made low: because as the flower of the grass he shall pass away.
11For the sun is no sooner risen with a burning heat, but it withereth the grass, and the flower thereof falleth, and the grace of the fashion of it perisheth: so also shall the rich man fade away in his ways.
12Blessed is the man that endureth temptation: for when he is tried, he shall receive the crown of life, which the Lord hath promised to them that love him.
13Let no man say when he is tempted, I am tempted of God: for God cannot be tempted with evil, neither tempteth he any man:
14But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed.
15Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin: and sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death.
16Do not err, my beloved brethren.
17Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning.
18Of his own will begat he us with the word of truth, that we should be a kind of firstfruits of his creatures.
19Wherefore, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath:
20For the wrath of man worketh not the righteousness of God.
21Wherefore lay apart all filthiness and superfluity of naughtiness, and receive with meekness the engrafted word, which is able to save your souls.
22But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves.
23For if any be a hearer of the word, and not a doer, he is like unto a man beholding his natural face in a glass:
24For he beholdeth himself, and goeth his way, and straightway forgetteth what manner of man he was.
25But whoso looketh into the perfect law of liberty, and continueth therein, he being not a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work, this man shall be blessed in his deed.
26If any man among you seem to be religious, and bridleth not his tongue, but deceiveth his own heart, this man’s religion is vain.
27Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this, To visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep himself unspotted from the world.

1James, a servant of God and of the Lord Jesus Christ, to the twelve tribes which are in the Dispersion: Greetings.
2Count it all joy, my brothers, when you fall into various temptations,
3knowing that the testing of your faith produces endurance.
4Let endurance have its perfect work, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing.
5But if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him.
6But let him ask in faith, without any doubting, for he who doubts is like a wave of the sea, driven by the wind and tossed.
7For that man shouldn’t think that he will receive anything from the Lord.
8He is a double-minded man, unstable in all his ways.
9Let the brother in humble circumstances glory in his high position;
10and the rich, in that he is made humble, because like the flower in the grass, he will pass away.
11For the sun arises with the scorching wind and withers the grass; and the flower in it falls, and the beauty of its appearance perishes. So the rich man will also fade away in his pursuits.
12Blessed is a person who endures temptation, for when he has been approved, he will receive the crown of life which the Lord promised to those who love him.
13Let no man say when he is tempted, “I am tempted by God,” for God can’t be tempted by evil, and he himself tempts no one.
14But each one is tempted when he is drawn away by his own lust and enticed.
15Then the lust, when it has conceived, bears sin. The sin, when it is full grown, produces death.
16Don’t be deceived, my beloved brothers.
17Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom can be no variation nor turning shadow.
18Of his own will he gave birth to us by the word of truth, that we should be a kind of first fruits of his creatures.
19So, then, my beloved brothers, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, and slow to anger;
20for the anger of man doesn’t produce the righteousness of God.
21Therefore, putting away all filthiness and overflowing of wickedness, receive with humility the implanted word, which is able to save your souls.
22But be doers of the word, and not only hearers, deluding your own selves.
23For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man looking at his natural face in a mirror;
24for he sees himself, and goes away, and immediately forgets what kind of man he was.
25But he who looks into the perfect law of freedom and continues, not being a hearer who forgets but a doer of the work, this man will be blessed in what he does.
26If anyone among you thinks himself to be religious while he doesn’t bridle his tongue, but deceives his heart, this man’s religion is worthless.
27Pure religion and undefiled before our God and Father is this: to visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep oneself unstained by the world.
