Meine Brüder, achtet es für lauter Freude, wenn ihr in mancherlei Anfechtungen geratet,

Hermanos míos, tened por sumo gozo cuando cayereis en diversas tentaciones;

My brethren, count it all joy when ye fall into divers temptations;

da ihr ja wisset, daß die Bewährung eures Glaubens Geduld wirkt.

Sabiendo que la prueba de vuestra fe obra paciencia.

Knowing this, that the trying of your faith worketh patience.

Die Geduld aber soll ein vollkommenes Werk haben, damit ihr vollkommen und ganz seiet und es euch an nichts mangle.

Mas tenga la paciencia perfecta su obra, para que seáis perfectos y cabales, sin faltar en alguna cosa.

But let patience have her perfect work, that ye may be perfect and entire, wanting nothing.

Let endurance have its perfect work, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing.

Wenn aber jemandem unter euch Weisheit mangelt, so erbitte er sie von Gott, der allen gern und ohne Vorwurf gibt, so wird sie ihm gegeben werden.

Y si alguno de vosotros tiene falta de sabiduría, demándela á Dios, el cual da á todos abundantemente, y no zahiere; y le será dada.

If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him.

But if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him.

Er bitte aber im Glauben und zweifle nicht; denn wer zweifelt, gleicht der Meereswoge, die vom Winde hin und her getrieben wird.

Pero pida en fe, no dudando nada: porque el que duda es semejante á la onda de la mar, que es movida del viento, y echada de una parte á otra.

But let him ask in faith, nothing wavering. For he that wavereth is like a wave of the sea driven with the wind and tossed.

But let him ask in faith, without any doubting, for he who doubts is like a wave of the sea, driven by the wind and tossed.

Ein solcher Mensch denke nicht, daß er etwas von dem Herrn empfangen werde.

No piense pues el tal hombre que recibirá ninguna cosa del Señor.

For let not that man think that he shall receive any thing of the Lord.

For that man shouldn’t think that he will receive anything from the Lord.

Ein Mann mit geteiltem Herzen ist unbeständig in allen seinen Wegen.

El hombre de doblado ánimo es inconstante en todos sus caminos.

Der Bruder aber, welcher niedrig gestellt ist, soll sich seiner Hoheit rühmen,

El hermano que es de baja suerte, gloríese en su alteza:

Let the brother of low degree rejoice in that he is exalted:

Let the brother in humble circumstances glory in his high position;

der Reiche dagegen seiner Niedrigkeit; denn wie eine Blume des Grases wird er vergehen.

Mas el que es rico, en su bajeza; porque él se pasará como la flor de la hierba.

But the rich, in that he is made low: because as the flower of the grass he shall pass away.

and the rich, in that he is made humble, because like the flower in the grass, he will pass away.

Denn kaum ist die Sonne mit ihrer Hitze aufgegangen, so verdorrt das Gras, und seine Blume fällt ab, und seine schöne Gestalt vergeht; so wird auch der Reiche in seinen Wegen verwelken.

Porque salido el sol con ardor, la hierba se secó, y su flor se cayó, y pereció su hermosa apariencia: así también se marchitará el rico en todos sus caminos.

For the sun is no sooner risen with a burning heat, but it withereth the grass, and the flower thereof falleth, and the grace of the fashion of it perisheth: so also shall the rich man fade away in his ways.

For the sun arises with the scorching wind and withers the grass; and the flower in it falls, and the beauty of its appearance perishes. So the rich man will also fade away in his pursuits.

Selig ist der Mann, der die Anfechtung erduldet; denn nachdem er sich bewährt hat, wird er die Krone des Lebens empfangen, welche Gott denen verheißen hat, die ihn lieben!

Bienaventurado el varón que sufre la tentación; porque cuando fuere probado, recibirá la corona de vida, que Dios ha prometido á los que le aman.

Blessed is the man that endureth temptation: for when he is tried, he shall receive the crown of life, which the Lord hath promised to them that love him.

Blessed is a person who endures temptation, for when he has been approved, he will receive the crown of life which the Lord promised to those who love him.

Niemand sage, wenn er versucht wird: Ich werde von Gott versucht. Denn Gott ist unangefochten vom Bösen; er selbst versucht aber auch niemand.

Cuando alguno es tentado, no diga que es tentado de Dios: porque Dios no puede ser tentado de los malos, ni él tienta á alguno:

Let no man say when he is tempted, I am tempted of God: for God cannot be tempted with evil, neither tempteth he any man:

Let no man say when he is tempted, “I am tempted by God,” for God can’t be tempted by evil, and he himself tempts no one.

Sondern ein jeder wird versucht, wenn er von seiner eigenen Lust gereizt und gelockt wird.

Sino que cada uno es tentado, cuando de su propia concupiscencia es atraído, y cebado.

But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed.

But each one is tempted when he is drawn away by his own lust and enticed.

Darnach, wenn die Lust empfangen hat, gebiert sie die Sünde; die Sünde aber, wenn sie vollendet ist, gebiert den Tod.

Y la concupiscencia, después que ha concebido, pare el pecado: y el pecado, siendo cumplido, engendra muerte.

Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin: and sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death.

Then the lust, when it has conceived, bears sin. The sin, when it is full grown, produces death.

Irret euch nicht, meine lieben Brüder:

Amados hermanos míos, no erréis.

Do not err, my beloved brethren.

Jede gute Gabe und jedes vollkommene Geschenk kommt von oben herab, von dem Vater der Lichter, bei welchem keine Veränderung ist, noch ein Schatten infolge von Wechsel.

Toda buena dádiva y todo don perfecto es de lo alto, que desciende del Padre de las luces, en el cual no hay mudanza, ni sombra de variación.

Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning.

Nach seinem Willen hat er uns erzeugt durch das Wort der Wahrheit, damit wir gleichsam Erstlinge seiner Geschöpfe seien.

El, de su voluntad nos ha engendrado por la palabra de verdad, para que seamos primicias de sus criaturas.

Darum, meine geliebten Brüder, sei jeder Mensch schnell zum Hören, langsam aber zum Reden, langsam zum Zorn;

Por esto, mis amados hermanos, todo hombre sea pronto para oir, tardío para hablar, tardío para airarse:

Wherefore, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath:

So, then, my beloved brothers, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, and slow to anger;

denn des Menschen Zorn wirkt nicht Gottes Gerechtigkeit!

Porque la ira del hombre no obra la justicia de Dios.

For the wrath of man worketh not the righteousness of God.

for the anger of man doesn’t produce the righteousness of God.

Darum leget allen Schmutz und Vorrat von Bosheit ab und nehmet mit Sanftmut das †euch eingepflanzte Wort auf, welches eure Seelen retten kann!

Por lo cual, dejando toda inmundicia y superfluidad de malicia, recibid con mansedumbre la palabra ingerida, la cual puede hacer salvas vuestras almas.

Wherefore lay apart all filthiness and superfluity of naughtiness, and receive with meekness the engrafted word, which is able to save your souls.

Therefore, putting away all filthiness and overflowing of wickedness, receive with humility the implanted word, which is able to save your souls.

Seid aber Täter des Wortes und nicht Hörer allein, womit ihr euch selbst betrügen würdet.

Mas sed hacedores de la palabra, y no tan solamente oidores, engañándoos á vosotros mismos.

But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves.

But be doers of the word, and not only hearers, deluding your own selves.

Denn wer †nur Hörer des Wortes ist und nicht Täter, der gleicht einem Manne, der sein natürliches Angesicht im Spiegel beschaut;

Porque si alguno oye la palabra, y no la pone por obra, este tal es semejante al hombre que considera en un espejo su rostro natural.

For if any be a hearer of the word, and not a doer, he is like unto a man beholding his natural face in a glass:

For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man looking at his natural face in a mirror;

er betrachtet sich und läuft davon und hat bald vergessen, wie er gestaltet war.

Porque él se consideró á sí mismo, y se fué, y luego se olvidó qué tal era.

For he beholdeth himself, and goeth his way, and straightway forgetteth what manner of man he was.

for he sees himself, and goes away, and immediately forgets what kind of man he was.

Wer aber hineinschaut in das vollkommene Gesetz der Freiheit und dabei bleibt, nicht als vergeßlicher Hörer, sondern als wirklicher Täter, der wird selig sein in seinem Tun.

Mas el que hubiere mirado atentamente en la perfecta ley, que es la de la libertad, y perseverado en ella, no siendo oidor olvidadizo, sino hacedor de la obra, este tal será bienaventurado en su hecho.

But whoso looketh into the perfect law of liberty, and continueth therein, he being not a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work, this man shall be blessed in his deed.

But he who looks into the perfect law of freedom and continues, not being a hearer who forgets but a doer of the work, this man will be blessed in what he does.

Wenn jemand fromm zu sein meint, seine Zunge aber nicht im Zaum hält, sondern sein Herz betrügt, dessen Frömmigkeit ist wertlos.

Si alguno piensa ser religioso entre vosotros, y no refrena su lengua, sino engañando su corazón, la religión del tal es vana.

If any man among you seem to be religious, and bridleth not his tongue, but deceiveth his own heart, this man’s religion is vain.

If anyone among you thinks himself to be religious while he doesn’t bridle his tongue, but deceives his heart, this man’s religion is worthless.

Reine und makellose Frömmigkeit vor Gott dem Vater ist es, Waisen und Witwen in ihrer Trübsal zu besuchen und sich von der Welt unbefleckt zu erhalten.

La religión pura y sin mácula delante de Dios y Padre es esta: Visitar los huérfanos y las viudas en sus tribulaciones, y guardarse sin mancha de este mundo.

Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this, To visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep himself unspotted from the world.
