Ne soyez pas beaucoup de docteurs, mes frères, sachant que nous en recevrons un jugement plus sévère ;

HERMANOS míos, no os hagáis muchos maestros, sabiendo que recibiremos mayor condenación.

My brethren, be not many masters, knowing that we shall receive the greater condemnation.

Let not many of you be teachers, my brothers, knowing that we will receive heavier judgment.

car nous faillissons tous à plusieurs égards. Si quelqu’un ne faillit pas en paroles, celui-là est un homme parfait, capable de tenir aussi tout le corps en bride.

Porque todos ofendemos en muchas cosas. Si alguno no ofende en palabra, éste es varón perfecto, que también puede con freno gobernar todo el cuerpo.

For in many things we offend all. If any man offend not in word, the same is a perfect man, and able also to bridle the whole body.

For we all stumble in many things. Anyone who doesn’t stumble in word is a perfect person, able to bridle the whole body also.

Voici, nous mettons les mors des chevaux dans leurs bouches, pour qu’ils nous obéissent, et nous dirigeons çà et là leur corps tout entier.

He aquí nosotros ponemos frenos en las bocas de los caballos para que nos obedezcan, y gobernamos todo su cuerpo.

Voici, les navires aussi, qui sont si grands et qui sont poussés par des vents violents, sont dirigés çà et là par un très petit gouvernail, où que ce soit que le veuille l’impulsion de celui qui les gouverne.

Et la langue est un feu. La langue, un monde d’iniquité, est établie parmi nos membres ; c’est elle qui souille tout le corps, et enflamme tout le cours de la nature, et est enflammée par la géhenne.

Y la lengua es un fuego, un mundo de maldad. Así la lengua está puesta entre nuestros miembros, la cual contamina todo el cuerpo, é inflama la rueda de la creación, y es inflamada del infierno.

And the tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity: so is the tongue among our members, that it defileth the whole body, and setteth on fire the course of nature; and it is set on fire of hell.

For every kind of beasts, and of birds, and of serpents, and of things in the sea, is tamed, and hath been tamed of mankind:

For every kind of animal, bird, creeping thing, and sea creature is tamed, and has been tamed by mankind;

mais pour la langue, aucun des hommes ne peut la dompter : c’est un mal désordonné, plein d’un venin mortel.

Pero ningún hombre puede domar la lengua, que es un mal que no puede ser refrenado; llena de veneno mortal.

But the tongue can no man tame; it is an unruly evil, full of deadly poison.

de la même bouche procède la bénédiction et la malédiction. Mes frères, il ne devrait pas en être ainsi.

De una misma boca proceden bendición y maldición. Hermanos míos, no conviene que estas cosas sean así hechas.

Out of the same mouth proceedeth blessing and cursing. My brethren, these things ought not so to be.

Une fontaine fait-elle jaillir par une même ouverture le doux et l’amer ?

¿Echa alguna fuente por una misma abertura agua dulce y amarga?

Doth a fountain send forth at the same place sweet water and bitter?

Does a spring send out from the same opening fresh and bitter water?

Mes frères, un figuier peut-il produire des olives, ou une vigne, des figues ? De l’eau salée ne peut pas non plus faire de l’eau douce.

Hermanos míos, ¿puede la higuera producir aceitunas, ó la vid higos? Así ninguna fuente puede hacer agua salada y dulce.

Can the fig tree, my brethren, bear olive berries? either a vine, figs? so can no fountain both yield salt water and fresh.

Can a fig tree, my brothers, yield olives, or a vine figs? Thus no spring yields both salt water and fresh water.

Qui est sage et intelligent parmi vous ? Que par une bonne conduite il montre ses œuvres avec la douceur de la sagesse.

¿Quién es sabio y avisado entre vosotros? muestre por buena conversación sus obras en mansedumbre de sabiduría.

Who is a wise man and endued with knowledge among you? let him shew out of a good conversation his works with meekness of wisdom.

Who is wise and understanding among you? Let him show by his good conduct that his deeds are done in gentleness of wisdom.

Mais si vous avez une jalousie amère et un esprit de querelle dans vos cœurs, ne vous glorifiez pas et ne mentez pas contre la vérité.

Pero si tenéis envidia amarga y contención en vuestros corazones, no os gloriéis, ni seáis mentirosos contra la verdad:

But if ye have bitter envying and strife in your hearts, glory not, and lie not against the truth.

But if you have bitter jealousy and selfish ambition in your heart, don’t boast and don’t lie against the truth.

Ce n’est pas là la sagesse qui descend d’en haut, mais †une sagesse terrestre, animale, diabolique.

Que esta sabiduría no es la que desciende de lo alto, sino terrena, animal, diabólica.

This wisdom descendeth not from above, but is earthly, sensual, devilish.

This wisdom is not that which comes down from above, but is earthly, sensual, and demonic.

Car où il y a de la jalousie et un esprit de querelle, là il y a du désordre et toute espèce de mauvaises actions.

Porque donde hay envidia y contención, allí hay perturbación y toda obra perversa.

For where envying and strife is, there is confusion and every evil work.

For where jealousy and selfish ambition are, there is confusion and every evil deed.

Mais la sagesse d’en haut est premièrement pure, ensuite paisible, modérée, traitable, pleine de miséricorde et de bons fruits, sans partialité, sans hypocrisie.

Mas la sabiduría que es de lo alto, primeramente es pura, después pacífica, modesta, benigna, llena de misericordia y de buenos frutos, no juzgadora, no fingida.

But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, and easy to be intreated, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality, and without hypocrisy.

Or le fruit de la justice, dans la paix, se sème pour ceux qui procurent la paix.
