Porque todos tropezamos en muchas cosas. Que si alguno no tropieza en palabras, éste tal se puede decir que es varón perfecto, y que puede tener a raya a todo el cuerpo y sus pasiones.
HERMANOS míos, no os hagáis muchos maestros, sabiendo que recibiremos mayor condenación.
My brethren, be not many masters, knowing that we shall receive the greater condemnation.

Así como si metemos un freno en la boca de los caballos para que nos obedezcan, movemos su cuerpo a dondequiera.
Porque todos ofendemos en muchas cosas. Si alguno no ofende en palabra, éste es varón perfecto, que también puede con freno gobernar todo el cuerpo.
For in many things we offend all. If any man offend not in word, the same is a perfect man, and able also to bridle the whole body.

Con ella bendecimos a Dios Padre, y con la misma maldecimos a los hombres, los cuales son formados a semejanza de Dios.

¿Hay entre vosotros alguno tenido por sabio y bien amaestrado para instruir a otros? Muestre por el buen porte su proceder y una sabiduría llena de dulzura.
Hermanos míos, ¿puede la higuera producir aceitunas, ó la vid higos? Así ninguna fuente puede hacer agua salada y dulce.
Can the fig tree, my brethren, bear olive berries? either a vine, figs? so can no fountain both yield salt water and fresh.

Mas si tenéis un celo amargo y el espíritu de discordia en vuestros corazones, no hay para qué gloriaros y levantar mentiras contra la verdad;
¿Quién es sabio y avisado entre vosotros? muestre por buena conversación sus obras en mansedumbre de sabiduría.
Who is a wise man and endued with knowledge among you? let him shew out of a good conversation his works with meekness of wisdom.
Who is wise and understanding among you? Let him show by his good conduct that his deeds are done in gentleness of wisdom.
que esa sabiduría no es la que desciende de arriba; sino más bien una sabiduría terrena, animal y diabólica.
Pero si tenéis envidia amarga y contención en vuestros corazones, no os gloriéis, ni seáis mentirosos contra la verdad:
But if ye have bitter envying and strife in your hearts, glory not, and lie not against the truth.

Porque donde hay tal celo o envidia y espíritu de discordia, allí reina el desorden y todo género de vicios.
Que esta sabiduría no es la que desciende de lo alto, sino terrena, animal, diabólica.
This wisdom descendeth not from above, but is earthly, sensual, devilish.

Al contrario, la sabiduría que desciende de arriba, además de ser honesta y llena de pudor, es pacífica, modesta, dócil, susceptible o concorde con todo lo bueno, llena de misericordia y de excelentes frutos de buenas obras, que no se mete a juzgar, y está ajena de hipocresía.
Porque donde hay envidia y contención, allí hay perturbación y toda obra perversa.
For where envying and strife is, there is confusion and every evil work.

Y es que los pacíficos son los que siembran en paz los frutos de la verdadera justicia, o santidad.
Mas la sabiduría que es de lo alto, primeramente es pura, después pacífica, modesta, benigna, llena de misericordia y de buenos frutos, no juzgadora, no fingida.
