1¿Cuál es la causa de las guerras y peleas entre ustedes? ¿No son sus pasiones lo que está en lucha interna en sus cuerpos?
2Desean, y no obtienes su deseo, matán; están llenos de envidia y no puedes obtener su deseo, entonces estás peleando y se hacen la guerra; ustedes no obtienen su deseo, porque no lo piden.
3Hacen su petición pero no lo obtienen, porque lo piden. Incorrectamente, por egoísmo para su propio placer.
4¡Oh, almas adúlteras! ¿no saben que ser amigos de este mundo es ser enemigos de Dios? Todo hombre que desee ser amigo de este mundo se odia a sí mismo.
5O piensan que es en vano lo que dicen las Sagradas Escrituras, el Espíritu que Dios puso en nuestros corazones nos anhela celosamente?
6Pero él da más gracia. Por eso dice, Dios está en contra de los hombres orgullosos, pero él da gracia a aquellos que se humillan ante él.
7Sométanse a Dios; resistan al diablo y él huirá de ustedes.
8Acérquense a Dios y él se acercará a ustedes. Limpien sus manos, pecadores. Purifiquen sus corazones, ustedes que quieren amar al mundo y a Dios a la vez.
9Aflíjanse con tristeza y llanto; dejen que su risa se convierta en dolor y su alegría en dolor.
10Humíllense ante los ojos del Señor y serán exaltados por él.
11No digan mal el uno contra el otro, mis hermanos. El que dice mal contra su hermano o juzga a su hermano, dice mal contra la ley y juzga la ley; y al juzgar la ley, no eres un hacedor de la ley, sino un juez.
12Hay un solo juez y legislador, incluso el que tiene el poder de la salvación y la destrucción; pero ¿quién eres tú para ser el juez de tu vecino?
13Qué tonto es decir: Hoy o mañana iremos a esta ciudad, y estaremos allí por un año y haremos negocios allí y obtendremos riquezas:
14Cuando no están seguros de lo que sucederá mañana. Que es con su vida? Es una niebla, que se ve por un tiempo y luego se va.
15Pero lo correcto sería decir: Si es el placer del Señor y si todavía estamos vivos, haremos esto y lo otro.
16Pero ahora se regocijan en su orgullo, y todo ese regocijo es malo.
17El hombre que tiene conocimiento de cómo hacer el bien y no lo hace, para él es pecado.

1¿DE dónde vienen las guerras y los pleitos entre vosotros? ¿No son de vuestras concupiscencias, las cuales combaten en vuestros miembros?
2Codiciáis, y no tenéis; matáis y ardéis de envidia, y no podéis alcanzar; combatís y guerreáis, y no tenéis lo que deseáis, porque no pedís.
3Pedís, y no recibís, porque pedís mal, para gastar en vuestros deleites.
4Adúlteros y adúlteras, ¿no sabéis que la amistad del mundo es enemistad con Dios? Cualquiera pues que quisiere ser amigo del mundo, se constituye enemigo de Dios.
5¿Pensáis que la Escritura dice sin causa: El espíritu que mora en nosotros codicia para envidia?
6Mas él da mayor gracia. Por esto dice: Dios resiste á los soberbios, y da gracia á los humildes.
7Someteos pues á Dios; resistid al diablo, y de vosotros huirá.
8Allegaos á Dios, y él se allegará á vosotros. Pecadores, limpiad las manos; y vosotros de doblado ánimo, purificad los corazones.
9Afligíos, y lamentad, y llorad. Vuestra risa se convierta en lloro, y vuestro gozo en tristeza.
10Humillaos delante del Señor, y él os ensalzará.
11Hermanos, no murmuréis los unos de los otros. El que murmura del hermano, y juzga á su hermano, este tal murmura de la ley, y juzga á la ley; pero si tú juzgas á la ley, no eres guardador de la ley, sino juez.
12Uno es el dador de la ley, que puede salvar y perder: ¿quién eres tú que juzgas á otro?
13Ea ahora, los que decís: Hoy y mañana iremos á tal ciudad, y estaremos allá un año, y compraremos mercadería, y ganaremos:
14Y no sabéis lo que será mañana. Porque ¿qué es vuestra vida? Ciertamente es un vapor que se aparece por un poco de tiempo, y luego se desvanece.
15En lugar de lo cual deberíais decir: Si el Señor quisiere, y si viviéremos, haremos esto ó aquello.
16Mas ahora os jactáis en vuestras soberbias. Toda jactancia semejante es mala.
17El pecado, pues, está en aquel que sabe hacer lo bueno, y no lo hace.

1From whence come wars and fightings among you? come they not hence, even of your lusts that war in your members?
2Ye lust, and have not: ye kill, and desire to have, and cannot obtain: ye fight and war, yet ye have not, because ye ask not.
3Ye ask, and receive not, because ye ask amiss, that ye may consume it upon your lusts.
4Ye adulterers and adulteresses, know ye not that the friendship of the world is enmity with God? whosoever therefore will be a friend of the world is the enemy of God.
5Do ye think that the scripture saith in vain, The spirit that dwelleth in us lusteth to envy?
6But he giveth more grace. Wherefore he saith, God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble.
7Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.
8Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts, ye double minded.
9Be afflicted, and mourn, and weep: let your laughter be turned to mourning, and your joy to heaviness.
10Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and he shall lift you up.
11Speak not evil one of another, brethren. He that speaketh evil of his brother, and judgeth his brother, speaketh evil of the law, and judgeth the law: but if thou judge the law, thou art not a doer of the law, but a judge.
12There is one lawgiver, who is able to save and to destroy: who art thou that judgest another?
13Go to now, ye that say, To day or to morrow we will go into such a city, and continue there a year, and buy and sell, and get gain:
14Whereas ye know not what shall be on the morrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapour, that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away.
15For that ye ought to say, If the Lord will, we shall live, and do this, or that.
16But now ye rejoice in your boastings: all such rejoicing is evil.
17Therefore to him that knoweth to do good, and doeth it not, to him it is sin.
World English Bible
1Where do wars and fightings among you come from? Don’t they come from your pleasures that war in your members?
2You lust, and don’t have. You murder and covet, and can’t obtain. You fight and make war. You don’t have, because you don’t ask.
3You ask, and don’t receive, because you ask with wrong motives, so that you may spend it on your pleasures.
4You adulterers and adulteresses, don’t you know that friendship with the world is hostility toward God? Whoever therefore wants to be a friend of the world makes himself an enemy of God.
5Or do you think that the Scripture says in vain, “The Spirit who lives in us yearns jealously”?
6But he gives more grace. Therefore it says, “God resists the proud, but gives grace to the humble.”
7Be subject therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.
8Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners. Purify your hearts, you double-minded.
9Lament, mourn, and weep. Let your laughter be turned to mourning and your joy to gloom.
10Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and he will exalt you.
11Don’t speak against one another, brothers. He who speaks against a brother and judges his brother, speaks against the law and judges the law. But if you judge the law, you are not a doer of the law but a judge.

13Come now, you who say, “Today or tomorrow let’s go into this city and spend a year there, trade, and make a profit.”
14Yet you don’t know what your life will be like tomorrow. For what is your life? For you are a vapor that appears for a little time and then vanishes away.
15For you ought to say, “If the Lord wills, we will both live, and do this or that.”
16But now you glory in your boasting. All such boasting is evil.
17To him therefore who knows to do good and doesn’t do it, to him it is sin.
