D’où viennent parmi vous les disputes et les querelles ? n’est-ce point de vos voluptés, qui combattent dans vos membres ?

¿DE dónde vienen las guerras y los pleitos entre vosotros? ¿No son de vuestras concupiscencias, las cuales combaten en vuestros miembros?

From whence come wars and fightings among you? come they not hence, even of your lusts that war in your members?

Where do wars and fightings among you come from? Don’t they come from your pleasures that war in your members?

Vous convoitez, et vous n’avez point ce que vous désirez ; vous avez une envie mortelle, vous êtes jaloux, et vous ne pouvez obtenir ce que vous enviez ; vous vous querellez, et vous disputez, et vous n’avez point ce que vous désirez, parce que vous ne le demandez point.

Codiciáis, y no tenéis; matáis y ardéis de envidia, y no podéis alcanzar; combatís y guerreáis, y no tenéis lo que deseáis, porque no pedís.

Ye lust, and have not: ye kill, and desire to have, and cannot obtain: ye fight and war, yet ye have not, because ye ask not.

You lust, and don’t have. You murder and covet, and can’t obtain. You fight and make war. You don’t have, because you don’t ask.

Vous demandez, et vous ne recevez point ; parce que vous demandez mal, et afin de l’employer dans vos voluptés.

Pedís, y no recibís, porque pedís mal, para gastar en vuestros deleites.

Ye ask, and receive not, because ye ask amiss, that ye may consume it upon your lusts.

You ask, and don’t receive, because you ask with wrong motives, so that you may spend it on your pleasures.

Hommes et femmes adultères, ne savez-vous pas que l’amitié du monde est inimitié contre Dieu ? celui donc qui voudra être ami du monde, se rend ennemi de Dieu.

Adúlteros y adúlteras, ¿no sabéis que la amistad del mundo es enemistad con Dios? Cualquiera pues que quisiere ser amigo del mundo, se constituye enemigo de Dios.

Ye adulterers and adulteresses, know ye not that the friendship of the world is enmity with God? whosoever therefore will be a friend of the world is the enemy of God.

You adulterers and adulteresses, don’t you know that friendship with the world is hostility toward God? Whoever therefore wants to be a friend of the world makes himself an enemy of God.

Pensez-vous que l’Ecriture parle en vain ; l’Esprit qui a habité en nous, vous inspire-t-il l’envie ?

¿Pensáis que la Escritura dice sin causa: El espíritu que mora en nosotros codicia para envidia?

Do ye think that the scripture saith in vain, The spirit that dwelleth in us lusteth to envy?

Or do you think that the Scripture says in vain, “The Spirit who lives in us yearns jealously”?

Il vous donne au contraire une plus grande grâce ; c’est pourquoi l’Ecriture dit : Dieu résiste aux orgueilleux, mais il fait grâce aux humbles.

Mas él da mayor gracia. Por esto dice: Dios resiste á los soberbios, y da gracia á los humildes.

But he giveth more grace. Wherefore he saith, God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble.

But he gives more grace. Therefore it says, “God resists the proud, but gives grace to the humble.”

Soumettez-vous donc à Dieu. Résistez au Démon, et il s’enfuira de vous.

Someteos pues á Dios; resistid al diablo, y de vosotros huirá.

Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.

Be subject therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.

Approchez-vous de Dieu, et il s’approchera de vous ; pécheurs, nettoyez vos mains ; et vous qui êtes doubles de coeur, purifiez vos coeurs.

Allegaos á Dios, y él se allegará á vosotros. Pecadores, limpiad las manos; y vosotros de doblado ánimo, purificad los corazones.

Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts, ye double minded.

Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners. Purify your hearts, you double-minded.

Sentez vos misères, et lamentez, et pleurez ; que votre ris se change en pleurs, et votre joie en tristesse.

Afligíos, y lamentad, y llorad. Vuestra risa se convierta en lloro, y vuestro gozo en tristeza.

Be afflicted, and mourn, and weep: let your laughter be turned to mourning, and your joy to heaviness.

Lament, mourn, and weep. Let your laughter be turned to mourning and your joy to gloom.

Humiliez-vous en la présence du Seigneur, et il vous élèvera.

Humillaos delante del Señor, y él os ensalzará.

Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and he shall lift you up.

Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and he will exalt you.

Mes frères ne médisez point les uns des autres ; celui qui médit de son frère, et qui condamne son frère, médit de la Loi, et condamne la Loi ; or si tu condamnes la Loi, tu n’es point l’observateur de la Loi, mais le juge.

Hermanos, no murmuréis los unos de los otros. El que murmura del hermano, y juzga á su hermano, este tal murmura de la ley, y juzga á la ley; pero si tú juzgas á la ley, no eres guardador de la ley, sino juez.

Speak not evil one of another, brethren. He that speaketh evil of his brother, and judgeth his brother, speaketh evil of the law, and judgeth the law: but if thou judge the law, thou art not a doer of the law, but a judge.

Don’t speak against one another, brothers. He who speaks against a brother and judges his brother, speaks against the law and judges the law. But if you judge the law, you are not a doer of the law but a judge.

Il n’y a qu’un seul Législateur, qui peut sauver et qui peut perdre ; mais toi qui es-tu, qui condamnes les autres ?

Uno es el dador de la ley, que puede salvar y perder: ¿quién eres tú que juzgas á otro?

There is one lawgiver, who is able to save and to destroy: who art thou that judgest another?

Only one is the lawgiver, who is able to save and to destroy. But who are you to judge another?

Or maintenant, vous qui dites : Allons aujourd’hui ou demain en une telle ville, et demeurons là un an, et y trafiquons et gagnons ;

Ea ahora, los que decís: Hoy y mañana iremos á tal ciudad, y estaremos allá un año, y compraremos mercadería, y ganaremos:

Go to now, ye that say, To day or to morrow we will go into such a city, and continue there a year, and buy and sell, and get gain:

Come now, you who say, “Today or tomorrow let’s go into this city and spend a year there, trade, and make a profit.”

(Qui toutefois ne savez pas ce qui arrivera le lendemain car qu’est-ce que votre vie ? ce n’est certes qu’une vapeur qui parait pour un peu de temps, et qui ensuite s’évanouit ;)

Y no sabéis lo que será mañana. Porque ¿qué es vuestra vida? Ciertamente es un vapor que se aparece por un poco de tiempo, y luego se desvanece.

Whereas ye know not what shall be on the morrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapour, that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away.

Yet you don’t know what your life will be like tomorrow. For what is your life? For you are a vapor that appears for a little time and then vanishes away.

Au lieu que vous deviez dire : si le Seigneur le veut, et si nous vivons, nous ferons ceci, ou cela.

En lugar de lo cual deberíais decir: Si el Señor quisiere, y si viviéremos, haremos esto ó aquello.

For that ye ought to say, If the Lord will, we shall live, and do this, or that.

For you ought to say, “If the Lord wills, we will both live, and do this or that.”

Mais maintenant vous vous vantez en vos pensées orgueilleuses ; toute vanterie de cette nature est mauvaise.

Mas ahora os jactáis en vuestras soberbias. Toda jactancia semejante es mala.

But now ye rejoice in your boastings: all such rejoicing is evil.

But now you glory in your boasting. All such boasting is evil.

Il y a donc du péché en celui qui sait faire le bien, et qui ne le fait pas.

El pecado, pues, está en aquel que sabe hacer lo bueno, y no lo hace.

Therefore to him that knoweth to do good, and doeth it not, to him it is sin.

To him therefore who knows to do good and doesn’t do it, to him it is sin.
