¿Qué provoca las guerras y los pleitos entre ustedes? Pues son las pasiones que luchan dentro de ustedes.
¿DE dónde vienen las guerras y los pleitos entre vosotros? ¿No son de vuestras concupiscencias, las cuales combaten en vuestros miembros?
From whence come wars and fightings among you? come they not hence, even of your lusts that war in your members?
Where do wars and fightings among you come from? Don’t they come from your pleasures that war in your members?
Ustedes desean algo y no lo consiguen. Entonces matan y sienten envidia, porque no pueden obtener lo que quieren. Pelean y se hacen la guerra. No tienen porque no piden.
Codiciáis, y no tenéis; matáis y ardéis de envidia, y no podéis alcanzar; combatís y guerreáis, y no tenéis lo que deseáis, porque no pedís.
Ye lust, and have not: ye kill, and desire to have, and cannot obtain: ye fight and war, yet ye have not, because ye ask not.
You lust, and don’t have. You murder and covet, and can’t obtain. You fight and make war. You don’t have, because you don’t ask.
Y cuando piden, no reciben porque piden con malas intenciones, para satisfacer sus propios placeres.
Pedís, y no recibís, porque pedís mal, para gastar en vuestros deleites.
Ye ask, and receive not, because ye ask amiss, that ye may consume it upon your lusts.
You ask, and don’t receive, because you ask with wrong motives, so that you may spend it on your pleasures.
¡Oh gente adúltera! ¿No saben que al ser amigos del mundo son enemigos de Dios? Si alguien quiere ser amigo del mundo, se vuelve enemigo de Dios.
Adúlteros y adúlteras, ¿no sabéis que la amistad del mundo es enemistad con Dios? Cualquiera pues que quisiere ser amigo del mundo, se constituye enemigo de Dios.
Ye adulterers and adulteresses, know ye not that the friendship of the world is enmity with God? whosoever therefore will be a friend of the world is the enemy of God.
You adulterers and adulteresses, don’t you know that friendship with the world is hostility toward God? Whoever therefore wants to be a friend of the world makes himself an enemy of God.
¿No creen lo que la Escritura dice, que Dios ama grandemente al espíritu que puso para que habite en nosotros?
¿Pensáis que la Escritura dice sin causa: El espíritu que mora en nosotros codicia para envidia?
Do ye think that the scripture saith in vain, The spirit that dwelleth in us lusteth to envy?
Or do you think that the Scripture says in vain, “The Spirit who lives in us yearns jealously”?
Pero él nos ayuda más con su favor. Por eso la Escritura dice: «Dios está en contra de los orgullosos, pero a favor de los humildes».
Mas él da mayor gracia. Por esto dice: Dios resiste á los soberbios, y da gracia á los humildes.
But he giveth more grace. Wherefore he saith, God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble.
But he gives more grace. Therefore it says, “God resists the proud, but gives grace to the humble.”
Por eso, obedezcan a Dios. Pónganle resistencia al diablo y él huirá de ustedes.
Someteos pues á Dios; resistid al diablo, y de vosotros huirá.
Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.
Be subject therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.
Acérquense a Dios y él se acercará a ustedes. ¡Pecadores, límpiense las manos! ¡Ustedes, inconstantes, purifiquen su corazón!
Allegaos á Dios, y él se allegará á vosotros. Pecadores, limpiad las manos; y vosotros de doblado ánimo, purificad los corazones.
Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts, ye double minded.
Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners. Purify your hearts, you double-minded.
Llénense de angustia, lloren y laméntense. Que su risa se convierta en llanto, y su alegría en tristeza.
Afligíos, y lamentad, y llorad. Vuestra risa se convierta en lloro, y vuestro gozo en tristeza.
Be afflicted, and mourn, and weep: let your laughter be turned to mourning, and your joy to heaviness.
Lament, mourn, and weep. Let your laughter be turned to mourning and your joy to gloom.
Humíllense delante del Señor, y él los pondrá en alto.
Humillaos delante del Señor, y él os ensalzará.
Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and he shall lift you up.
Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and he will exalt you.
Hermanos, no hablen mal unos de otros. El que habla mal de su hermano o lo juzga, habla mal de la ley y la juzga. Y si juzgas la ley, ya no la obedeces sino que te conviertes en su juez.
Hermanos, no murmuréis los unos de los otros. El que murmura del hermano, y juzga á su hermano, este tal murmura de la ley, y juzga á la ley; pero si tú juzgas á la ley, no eres guardador de la ley, sino juez.
Speak not evil one of another, brethren. He that speaketh evil of his brother, and judgeth his brother, speaketh evil of the law, and judgeth the law: but if thou judge the law, thou art not a doer of the law, but a judge.
Don’t speak against one another, brothers. He who speaks against a brother and judges his brother, speaks against the law and judges the law. But if you judge the law, you are not a doer of the law but a judge.
Hay sólo un legislador y juez, que puede salvar y condenar. Pero tú, ¿quién eres para juzgar a tu prójimo?
Uno es el dador de la ley, que puede salvar y perder: ¿quién eres tú que juzgas á otro?
There is one lawgiver, who is able to save and to destroy: who art thou that judgest another?
Only one is the lawgiver, who is able to save and to destroy. But who are you to judge another?
Escuchen bien esto, ustedes los que dicen: «Hoy o mañana iremos a tal o cual ciudad, nos quedaremos allí un año, haremos negocios y ganaremos dinero».
Ea ahora, los que decís: Hoy y mañana iremos á tal ciudad, y estaremos allá un año, y compraremos mercadería, y ganaremos:
Go to now, ye that say, To day or to morrow we will go into such a city, and continue there a year, and buy and sell, and get gain:
Come now, you who say, “Today or tomorrow let’s go into this city and spend a year there, trade, and make a profit.”
¡Pero si ni siquiera saben lo que sucederá mañana! La vida de ustedes es como la niebla que aparece por un momento y luego desaparece.
Y no sabéis lo que será mañana. Porque ¿qué es vuestra vida? Ciertamente es un vapor que se aparece por un poco de tiempo, y luego se desvanece.
Whereas ye know not what shall be on the morrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapour, that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away.
Yet you don’t know what your life will be like tomorrow. For what is your life? For you are a vapor that appears for a little time and then vanishes away.
Más bien, deberían decir: «Si el Señor quiere, viviremos y haremos esto o aquello».
En lugar de lo cual deberíais decir: Si el Señor quisiere, y si viviéremos, haremos esto ó aquello.
For that ye ought to say, If the Lord will, we shall live, and do this, or that.
For you ought to say, “If the Lord wills, we will both live, and do this or that.”
Pero a ustedes les gusta hablar con orgullo, y ese orgullo es malo.
Mas ahora os jactáis en vuestras soberbias. Toda jactancia semejante es mala.
But now ye rejoice in your boastings: all such rejoicing is evil.
But now you glory in your boasting. All such boasting is evil.
Todo aquel que sabe hacer el bien y no lo hace, comete pecado.
El pecado, pues, está en aquel que sabe hacer lo bueno, y no lo hace.
Therefore to him that knoweth to do good, and doeth it not, to him it is sin.
To him therefore who knows to do good and doesn’t do it, to him it is sin.
