¿De dónde vienen las luchas y contiendas entre ustedes? ¿No vienen de sus pasiones, las cuales combaten como soldados en sus miembros?
¿DE dónde vienen las guerras y los pleitos entre vosotros? ¿No son de vuestras concupiscencias, las cuales combaten en vuestros miembros?
From whence come wars and fightings among you? come they not hence, even of your lusts that war in your members?
Where do wars and fightings among you come from? Don’t they come from your pleasures that war in your members?
Codician y no tienen. Asesinan y arden de envidia. Nada pueden obtener. Combaten y luchan. Pero no tienen porque no piden.
Codiciáis, y no tenéis; matáis y ardéis de envidia, y no podéis alcanzar; combatís y guerreáis, y no tenéis lo que deseáis, porque no pedís.
Ye lust, and have not: ye kill, and desire to have, and cannot obtain: ye fight and war, yet ye have not, because ye ask not.
You lust, and don’t have. You murder and covet, and can’t obtain. You fight and make war. You don’t have, because you don’t ask.
Piden y no reciben, porque piden mal, para gastar en sus placeres.
Pedís, y no recibís, porque pedís mal, para gastar en vuestros deleites.
Ye ask, and receive not, because ye ask amiss, that ye may consume it upon your lusts.
You ask, and don’t receive, because you ask with wrong motives, so that you may spend it on your pleasures.
Adúlteros, ¿no saben que la amistad del mundo es enemistad contra Dios? Por tanto, cualquiera que determina ser amigo del mundo, se convierte en enemigo de Dios.
Adúlteros y adúlteras, ¿no sabéis que la amistad del mundo es enemistad con Dios? Cualquiera pues que quisiere ser amigo del mundo, se constituye enemigo de Dios.
Ye adulterers and adulteresses, know ye not that the friendship of the world is enmity with God? whosoever therefore will be a friend of the world is the enemy of God.
You adulterers and adulteresses, don’t you know that friendship with the world is hostility toward God? Whoever therefore wants to be a friend of the world makes himself an enemy of God.
¿O piensan que la Escritura dice en vano: El espíritu que puso en nosotros nos anhela con celo?
¿Pensáis que la Escritura dice sin causa: El espíritu que mora en nosotros codicia para envidia?
Do ye think that the scripture saith in vain, The spirit that dwelleth in us lusteth to envy?
Or do you think that the Scripture says in vain, “The Spirit who lives in us yearns jealously”?
Pero Él da mayor gracia. Por tanto dice: Dios se opone a los soberbios, y da gracia a los humildes.

But he giveth more grace. Wherefore he saith, God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble.
But he gives more grace. Therefore it says, “God resists the proud, but gives grace to the humble.”
Entonces sométanse a Dios. Estén firmes contra el diablo y huirá de ustedes.
Someteos pues á Dios; resistid al diablo, y de vosotros huirá.
Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.

Acérquense a Dios y Él se acercará a ustedes. Pecadores, limpien sus manos, y los que vacilan purifiquen sus corazones.
Allegaos á Dios, y él se allegará á vosotros. Pecadores, limpiad las manos; y vosotros de doblado ánimo, purificad los corazones.
Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts, ye double minded.
Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners. Purify your hearts, you double-minded.
Aflíjanse, lamenten y lloren. Su risa se convierta en llanto y su gozo en tristeza.
Afligíos, y lamentad, y llorad. Vuestra risa se convierta en lloro, y vuestro gozo en tristeza.
Be afflicted, and mourn, and weep: let your laughter be turned to mourning, and your joy to heaviness.
Lament, mourn, and weep. Let your laughter be turned to mourning and your joy to gloom.
Humíllense ante el Señor, y Él los exaltará.
Humillaos delante del Señor, y él os ensalzará.
Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and he shall lift you up.
Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and he will exalt you.
Hermanos, no hablen mal unos de otros. El que habla mal del hermano o que juzga a su hermano, habla mal de la Ley y juzga a la Ley. Si juzgas la Ley, ya no eres cumplidor de la Ley, sino juez.
Hermanos, no murmuréis los unos de los otros. El que murmura del hermano, y juzga á su hermano, este tal murmura de la ley, y juzga á la ley; pero si tú juzgas á la ley, no eres guardador de la ley, sino juez.
Speak not evil one of another, brethren. He that speaketh evil of his brother, and judgeth his brother, speaketh evil of the law, and judgeth the law: but if thou judge the law, thou art not a doer of the law, but a judge.
Don’t speak against one another, brothers. He who speaks against a brother and judges his brother, speaks against the law and judges the law. But if you judge the law, you are not a doer of the law but a judge.
Uno solo es el Legislador y Juez, Quien puede salvar y condenar. Pero tú, que juzgas al prójimo, ¿quién eres?
Uno es el dador de la ley, que puede salvar y perder: ¿quién eres tú que juzgas á otro?
There is one lawgiver, who is able to save and to destroy: who art thou that judgest another?
Only one is the lawgiver, who is able to save and to destroy. But who are you to judge another?
Escuchen ahora los que dicen: Hoy o mañana iremos a tal y tal ciudad, estaremos allá un año, haremos negocios y ganaremos.
Ea ahora, los que decís: Hoy y mañana iremos á tal ciudad, y estaremos allá un año, y compraremos mercadería, y ganaremos:
Go to now, ye that say, To day or to morrow we will go into such a city, and continue there a year, and buy and sell, and get gain:
Come now, you who say, “Today or tomorrow let’s go into this city and spend a year there, trade, and make a profit.”
Lo que no saben es como será su vida mañana. Ciertamente es como una neblina que aparece por poco tiempo, y luego se desvanece.
Y no sabéis lo que será mañana. Porque ¿qué es vuestra vida? Ciertamente es un vapor que se aparece por un poco de tiempo, y luego se desvanece.
Whereas ye know not what shall be on the morrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapour, that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away.
Yet you don’t know what your life will be like tomorrow. For what is your life? For you are a vapor that appears for a little time and then vanishes away.
Al contrario, ustedes deben decir: Si el Señor quiere, viviremos, y haremos esto o aquello.
En lugar de lo cual deberíais decir: Si el Señor quisiere, y si viviéremos, haremos esto ó aquello.
For that ye ought to say, If the Lord will, we shall live, and do this, or that.
For you ought to say, “If the Lord wills, we will both live, and do this or that.”
Pero ahora se enaltecen en sus arrogancias. Todo enaltecimiento de esa clase es malo.
Mas ahora os jactáis en vuestras soberbias. Toda jactancia semejante es mala.
But now ye rejoice in your boastings: all such rejoicing is evil.
But now you glory in your boasting. All such boasting is evil.
Por tanto, al que sabe hacer lo bueno y no lo hace, le es pecado.
El pecado, pues, está en aquel que sabe hacer lo bueno, y no lo hace.
Therefore to him that knoweth to do good, and doeth it not, to him it is sin.
To him therefore who knows to do good and doesn’t do it, to him it is sin.
