1Samson partit pour Gaza; il y vit une femme prostituée, et il entra chez elle.
2On dit aux gens de Gaza: Samson est arrivé ici. Et ils l’environnèrent, et se tinrent en embuscade toute la nuit à la porte de la ville. Ils restèrent tranquilles toute la nuit, disant: Au point du jour, nous le tuerons.
3Samson demeura couché jusqu’à minuit. Vers minuit, il se leva; et il saisit les battants de la porte de la ville et les deux poteaux, les arracha avec la barre, les mit sur ses épaules, et les porta sur le sommet de la montagne qui est en face d’Hébron.
4Après cela, il aima une femme dans la vallée de Sorek. Elle se nommait Delila.
5Les princes des Philistins montèrent vers elle, et lui dirent: Flatte-le, pour savoir d’où lui vient sa grande force et comment nous pourrions nous rendre maîtres de lui; nous le lierons pour le dompter, et nous te donnerons chacun mille et cent sicles d’argent.
6Delila dit à Samson: Dis-moi, je te prie, d’où vient ta grande force, et avec quoi il faudrait te lier pour te dompter.
7Samson lui dit: Si on me liait avec sept cordes fraîches, qui ne fussent pas encore sèches, je deviendrais faible et je serais comme un autre homme.
8Les princes des Philistins apportèrent à Delila sept cordes fraîches, qui n’étaient pas encore sèches. Et elle le lia avec ces cordes.
9Or des gens se tenaient en embuscade chez elle, dans une chambre. Elle lui dit: Les Philistins sont sur toi, Samson! Et il rompit les cordes, comme se rompt un cordon d’étoupe quand il sent le feu. Et l’on ne connut point d’où venait sa force.
10Delila dit à Samson: Voici, tu t’es joué de moi, tu m’as dit des mensonges. Maintenant, je te prie, indique-moi avec quoi il faut te lier.
11Il lui dit: Si on me liait avec des cordes neuves, dont on ne se fût jamais servi, je deviendrais faible et je serais comme un autre homme.
12Delila prit des cordes neuves, avec lesquelles elle le lia. Puis elle lui dit: Les Philistins sont sur toi, Samson! Or des gens se tenaient en embuscade dans une chambre. Et il rompit comme un fil les cordes qu’il avait aux bras.
13Delila dit à Samson: Jusqu’à présent tu t’es joué de moi, tu m’as dit des mensonges. Déclare-moi avec quoi il faut te lier. Il lui dit: Tu n’as qu’à tisser les sept tresses de ma tête avec la chaîne du tissu.
14Et elle les fixa par la cheville. Puis elle lui dit: Les Philistins sont sur toi, Samson! Et il se réveilla de son sommeil, et il arracha la cheville du tissu et le tissu.
15Elle lui dit: Comment peux-tu dire: Je t’aime! Puisque ton cœur n’est pas avec moi? Voilà trois fois que tu t’es joué de moi, et tu ne m’as pas déclaré d’où vient ta grande force.
16Comme elle était chaque jour à le tourmenter et à l’importuner par ses instances, son âme s’impatienta à la mort,
17il lui ouvrit tout son cœur, et lui dit: Le rasoir n’a point passé sur ma tête, parce que je suis consacré à Dieu dès le ventre de ma mère. Si j’étais rasé, ma force m’abandonnerait, je deviendrais faible, et je serais comme tout autre homme.
18Delila, voyant qu’il lui avait ouvert tout son cœur, envoya appeler les princes des Philistins, et leur fit dire: Montez cette fois, car il m’a ouvert tout son cœur. Et les princes des Philistins montèrent vers elle, et apportèrent l’argent dans leurs mains.
19Elle l’endormit sur ses genoux. Et ayant appelé un homme, elle rasa les sept tresses de la tête de Samson, et commença ainsi à le dompter. Il perdit sa force.
20Elle dit alors: Les Philistins sont sur toi, Samson! Et il se réveilla de son sommeil, et dit: Je m’en tirerai comme les autres fois, et je me dégagerai. Il ne savait pas que l’Éternel s’était retiré de lui.
21Les Philistins le saisirent, et lui crevèrent les yeux; ils le firent descendre à Gaza, et le lièrent avec des chaînes d’airain. Il tournait la meule dans la prison.
22Cependant les cheveux de sa tête recommençaient à croître, depuis qu’il avait été rasé.
23Or les princes des Philistins s’assemblèrent pour offrir un grand sacrifice à Dagon, leur dieu, et pour se réjouir. Ils disaient: Notre dieu a livré entre nos mains Samson, notre ennemi.
24Et quand le peuple le vit, ils célébrèrent leur dieu, en disant: Notre dieu a livré entre nos mains notre ennemi, celui qui ravageait notre pays, et qui multipliait nos morts.
25Dans la joie de leur cœur, ils dirent: Qu’on appelle Samson, et qu’il nous divertisse! Ils firent sortir Samson de la prison, et il joua devant eux. Ils le placèrent entre les colonnes.
26Et Samson dit au jeune homme qui le tenait par la main: Laisse-moi, afin que je puisse toucher les colonnes sur lesquelles repose la maison et m’appuyer contre elles.
27La maison était remplie d’hommes et de femmes; tous les princes des Philistins étaient là, et il y avait sur le toit environ trois mille personnes, hommes et femmes, qui regardaient Samson jouer.
28Alors Samson invoqua l’Éternel, et dit: Seigneur Éternel! Souviens-toi de moi, je te prie; ô Dieu! Donne-moi de la force seulement cette fois, et que d’un seul coup je tire vengeance des Philistins pour mes deux yeux!
29Et Samson embrassa les deux colonnes du milieu sur lesquelles reposait la maison, et il s’appuya contre elles; l’une était à sa droite, et l’autre à sa gauche.
30Samson dit: Que je meure avec les Philistins! Il se pencha fortement, et la maison tomba sur les princes et sur tout le peuple qui y était. Ceux qu’il fit périr à sa mort furent plus nombreux que ceux qu’il avait tués pendant sa vie.
31Ses frères et toute la maison de son père descendirent, et l’emportèrent. Lorsqu’ils furent remontés, ils l’enterrèrent entre Tsorea et Eschthaol dans le sépulcre de Manoach, son père. Il avait été juge en Israël pendant vingt ans.

1Y FUÉ Samsón á Gaza, y vió allí una mujer ramera, y entró á ella.
2Y fué dicho á los de Gaza: Samsón es venido acá. Y cercáronlo, y pusiéronle espías toda aquella noche á la puerta de la ciudad: y estuvieron callados toda aquella noche, diciendo: Hasta la luz de la mañana; entonces lo mataremos.
3Mas Samsón durmió hasta la media noche; y á la media noche se levantó, y tomando las puertas de la ciudad con sus dos pilares y su cerrojo, echóselas al hombro, y fuése, y subióse con ellas á la cumbre del monte que está delante de Hebrón.
4Después de esto aconteció que se enamoró de una mujer en el valle de Sorec, la cual se llamaba Dalila.
5Y vinieron á ella los príncipes de los Filisteos, y dijéronle: Engáñale y sabe en qué consiste su grande fuerza, y cómo lo podríamos vencer, para que lo atemos y lo atormentemos; y cada uno de nosotros te dará mil y cien siclos de plata.
6Y Dalila dijo á Samsón: Yo te ruego que me declares en qué consiste tu grande fuerza, y cómo podrás ser atado para ser atormentado.
7Y respondióle Samsón: Si me ataren con siete mimbres verdes que aun no estén enjutos, entonces me debilitaré, y seré como cualquiera de los hombres.
8Y los príncipes de los Filisteos le trajeron siete mimbres verdes que aun no se habían enjugado, y atóle con ellos.
9Y estaban espías en casa de ella en una cámara. Entonces ella le dijo: ¡Samsón, los Filisteos sobre ti! Y él rompió los mimbres, como se rompe una cuerda de estopa cuando siente el fuego: y no se supo su fuerza.
10Entonces Dalila dijo á Samsón: He aquí tú me has engañado, y me has dicho mentiras: descúbreme pues ahora, yo te ruego, cómo podrás ser atado.
11Y él le dijo: Si me ataren fuertemente con cuerdas nuevas, con las cuales ninguna cosa se haya hecho, yo me debilitaré, y seré como cualquiera de los hombres.
12Y Dalila tomó cuerdas nuevas, y atóle con ellas, y díjole: ¡Samsón, los Filisteos sobre ti! Y los espías estaban en una cámara. Mas él las rompió de sus brazos como un hilo.
13Y Dalila dijo á Samsón: Hasta ahora me engañas, y tratas conmigo con mentiras. Descúbreme pues ahora cómo podrás ser atado. El entonces le dijo: Si tejieres siete guedejas de mi cabeza con la tela.
14Y ella hincó la estaca, y díjole: ¡Samsón, los Filisteos sobre ti! Mas despertando él de su sueño, arrancó la estaca del telar con la tela.
15Y ella le dijo: ¿Cómo dices, Yo te amo, pues que tu corazón no está conmigo? Ya me has engañado tres veces, y no me has aún descubierto en qué está tu gran fuerza.
16Y aconteció que, apretándole ella cada día con sus palabras é importunándole, su alma fué reducida á mortal angustia.
17Descubrióle pues todo su corazón, y díjole: Nunca á mi cabeza llegó navaja; porque soy Nazareo de Dios desde el vientre de mi madre. Si fuere rapado, mi fuerza se apartará de mí, y seré debilitado, y como todos los hombres.
18Y viendo Dalila que él le había descubierto todo su corazón, envió á llamar á los príncipes de los Filisteos, diciendo: Venid esta vez, porque él me ha descubierto todo su corazón. Y los príncipes de los Filisteos vinieron á ella, trayendo en su mano el dinero.
19Y ella hizo que él se durmiese sobre sus rodillas; y llamado un hombre, rapóle siete guedejas de su cabeza, y comenzó á afligirlo, pues su fuerza se apartó de él.
20Y díjole: ¡Samsón, los Filisteos sobre ti! Y luego que despertó él de su sueño, se dijo: Esta vez saldré como las otras, y me escaparé: no sabiendo que Jehová ya se había de él apartado.
21Mas los Filisteos echaron mano de él, y sacáronle los ojos, y le llevaron á Gaza; y le ataron con cadenas, para que moliese en la cárcel.
22Y el cabello de su cabeza comenzó á crecer, después que fué rapado.
23Entonces los príncipes de los Filisteos se juntaron para ofrecer sacrificio á Dagón su dios, y para alegrarse; y dijeron: Nuestro dios entregó en nuestras manos á Samsón nuestro enemigo.
24Y viéndolo el pueblo, loaron á su dios, diciendo: Nuestro dios entregó en nuestras manos á nuestro enemigo, y al destruidor de nuestra tierra, el cual había muerto á muchos de nosotros.
25Y aconteció que, yéndose alegrando el corazón de ellos, dijeron: Llamad á Samsón, para que divierta delante de nosotros. Y llamaron á Samsón de la cárcel, y hacía de juguete delante de ellos; y pusiéronlo entre las columnas.
26Y Samsón dijo al mozo que le guiaba de la mano: Acércame, y hazme tentar las columnas sobre que se sustenta la casa, para que me apoye sobre ellas.
27Y la casa estaba llena de hombres y mujeres: y todos los príncipes de los Filisteos estaban allí; y en el alto piso había como tres mil hombres y mujeres, que estaban mirando el escarnio de Samsón.
28Entonces clamó Samsón á Jehová, y dijo: Señor Jehová, acuérdate ahora de mí, y esfuérzame, te ruego, solamente esta vez, oh Dios, para que de una vez tome venganza de los Filisteos, por mis dos ojos.
29Asió luego Samsón las dos columnas del medio sobre las cuales se sustentaba la casa, y estribó en ellas, la una con la mano derecha, y la otra con la izquierda;
30Y dijo Samsón: Muera yo con los Filisteos. Y estribando con esfuerzo, cayó la casa sobre los príncipes, y sobre todo el pueblo que estaba en ella. Y fueron muchos más los que de ellos mató muriendo, que los que había muerto en su vida.
31Y descendieron sus hermanos y toda la casa de su padre, y tomáronle, y lleváronle, y le sepultaron entre Sora y Esthaol, en el sepulcro de su padre Manoa. Y él juzgó á Israel veinte años.

1Then went Samson to Gaza, and saw there an harlot, and went in unto her.
2And it was told the Gazites, saying, Samson is come hither. And they compassed him in, and laid wait for him all night in the gate of the city, and were quiet all the night, saying, In the morning, when it is day, we shall kill him.
3And Samson lay till midnight, and arose at midnight, and took the doors of the gate of the city, and the two posts, and went away with them, bar and all, and put them upon his shoulders, and carried them up to the top of an hill that is before Hebron.
4And it came to pass afterward, that he loved a woman in the valley of Sorek, whose name was Delilah.
5And the lords of the Philistines came up unto her, and said unto her, Entice him, and see wherein his great strength lieth, and by what means we may prevail against him, that we may bind him to afflict him: and we will give thee every one of us eleven hundred pieces of silver.
6And Delilah said to Samson, Tell me, I pray thee, wherein thy great strength lieth, and wherewith thou mightest be bound to afflict thee.
7And Samson said unto her, If they bind me with seven green withs that were never dried, then shall I be weak, and be as another man.
8Then the lords of the Philistines brought up to her seven green withs which had not been dried, and she bound him with them.
9Now there were men lying in wait, abiding with her in the chamber. And she said unto him, The Philistines be upon thee, Samson. And he brake the withs, as a thread of tow is broken when it toucheth the fire. So his strength was not known.
10And Delilah said unto Samson, Behold, thou hast mocked me, and told me lies: now tell me, I pray thee, wherewith thou mightest be bound.
11And he said unto her, If they bind me fast with new ropes that never were occupied, then shall I be weak, and be as another man.
12Delilah therefore took new ropes, and bound him therewith, and said unto him, The Philistines be upon thee, Samson. And there were liers in wait abiding in the chamber. And he brake them from off his arms like a thread.
13And Delilah said unto Samson, Hitherto thou hast mocked me, and told me lies: tell me wherewith thou mightest be bound. And he said unto her, If thou weavest the seven locks of my head with the web.
14And she fastened it with the pin, and said unto him, The Philistines be upon thee, Samson. And he awaked out of his sleep, and went away with the pin of the beam, and with the web.
15And she said unto him, How canst thou say, I love thee, when thine heart is not with me? thou hast mocked me these three times, and hast not told me wherein thy great strength lieth.
16And it came to pass, when she pressed him daily with her words, and urged him, so that his soul was vexed unto death;
17That he told her all his heart, and said unto her, There hath not come a razor upon mine head; for I have been a Nazarite unto God from my mother’s womb: if I be shaven, then my strength will go from me, and I shall become weak, and be like any other man.
18And when Delilah saw that he had told her all his heart, she sent and called for the lords of the Philistines, saying, Come up this once, for he hath shewed me all his heart. Then the lords of the Philistines came up unto her, and brought money in their hand.
19And she made him sleep upon her knees; and she called for a man, and she caused him to shave off the seven locks of his head; and she began to afflict him, and his strength went from him.
20And she said, The Philistines be upon thee, Samson. And he awoke out of his sleep, and said, I will go out as at other times before, and shake myself. And he wist not that the LORD was departed from him.
21But the Philistines took him, and put out his eyes, and brought him down to Gaza, and bound him with fetters of brass; and he did grind in the prison house.
22Howbeit the hair of his head began to grow again after he was shaven.
23Then the lords of the Philistines gathered them together for to offer a great sacrifice unto Dagon their god, and to rejoice: for they said, Our god hath delivered Samson our enemy into our hand.
24And when the people saw him, they praised their god: for they said, Our god hath delivered into our hands our enemy, and the destroyer of our country, which slew many of us.
25And it came to pass, when their hearts were merry, that they said, Call for Samson, that he may make us sport. And they called for Samson out of the prison house; and he made them sport: and they set him between the pillars.
26And Samson said unto the lad that held him by the hand, Suffer me that I may feel the pillars whereupon the house standeth, that I may lean upon them.
27Now the house was full of men and women; and all the lords of the Philistines were there; and there were upon the roof about three thousand men and women, that beheld while Samson made sport.
28And Samson called unto the LORD, and said, O Lord GOD, remember me, I pray thee, and strengthen me, I pray thee, only this once, O God, that I may be at once avenged of the Philistines for my two eyes.
29And Samson took hold of the two middle pillars upon which the house stood, and on which it was borne up, of the one with his right hand, and of the other with his left.
30And Samson said, Let me die with the Philistines. And he bowed himself with all his might; and the house fell upon the lords, and upon all the people that were therein. So the dead which he slew at his death were more than they which he slew in his life.
31Then his brethren and all the house of his father came down, and took him, and brought him up, and buried him between Zorah and Eshtaol in the buryingplace of Manoah his father. And he judged Israel twenty years.

1Samson went to Gaza, and saw there a prostitute, and went in to her.
2The Gazites were told, “Samson is here!” They surrounded him and laid wait for him all night in the gate of the city, and were quiet all the night, saying, “Wait until morning light; then we will kill him.”
3Samson lay until midnight, then arose at midnight and took hold of the doors of the gate of the city, with the two posts, and plucked them up, bar and all, and put them on his shoulders and carried them up to the top of the mountain that is before Hebron.
4It came to pass afterward that he loved a woman in the valley of Sorek, whose name was Delilah.
5The lords of the Philistines came up to her and said to her, “Entice him, and see in which his great strength lies, and by what means we may prevail against him, that we may bind him to afflict him; and we will each give you eleven hundred pieces of silver.”
6Delilah said to Samson, “Please tell me where your great strength lies, and what you might be bound to afflict you.”
7Samson said to her, “If they bind me with seven green cords that were never dried, then shall I become weak, and be as another man.”
8Then the lords of the Philistines brought up to her seven green cords which had not been dried, and she bound him with them.
9Now she had an ambush waiting in the inner room. She said to him, “The Philistines are on you, Samson!” He broke the cords as a flax thread is broken when it touches the fire. So his strength was not known.
10Delilah said to Samson, “Behold, you have mocked me, and told me lies. Now please tell me how you might be bound.”
11He said to her, “If they only bind me with new ropes with which no work has been done, then I will become weak, and be as another man.”
12So Delilah took new ropes and bound him with them, then said to him, “The Philistines are on you, Samson!” The ambush was waiting in the inner room. He broke them off his arms like a thread.
13Delilah said to Samson, “Until now, you have mocked me and told me lies. Tell me with what you might be bound.” He said to her, “If you weave the seven locks of my head with the fabric on the loom.”
14She fastened it with the pin, and said to him, “The Philistines are on you, Samson!” He awakened out of his sleep, and plucked away the pin of the beam and the fabric.
15She said to him, “How can you say, ‘I love you,’ when your heart is not with me? You have mocked me these three times, and have not told me where your great strength lies.”
16When she pressed him daily with her words and urged him, his soul was troubled to death.
17He told her all his heart and said to her, “No razor has ever come on my head; for I have been a Nazirite to God from my mother’s womb. If I am shaved, then my strength will go from me and I will become weak, and be like any other man.”
18When Delilah saw that he had told her all his heart, she sent and called for the lords of the Philistines, saying, “Come up this once, for he has told me all his heart.” Then the lords of the Philistines came up to her and brought the money in their hand.
19She made him sleep on her knees; and she called for a man and shaved off the seven locks of his head; and she began to afflict him, and his strength went from him.
20She said, “The Philistines are upon you, Samson!” He awoke out of his sleep, and said, “I will go out as at other times, and shake myself free.” But he didn’t know that the LORD had departed from him.
21The Philistines laid hold on him and put out his eyes; and they brought him down to Gaza and bound him with fetters of bronze; and he ground at the mill in the prison.
22However, the hair of his head began to grow again after he was shaved.
23The lords of the Philistines gathered together to offer a great sacrifice to Dagon their god, and to rejoice; for they said, “Our god has delivered Samson our enemy into our hand.”
24When the people saw him, they praised their god; for they said, “Our god has delivered our enemy and the destroyer of our country, who has slain many of us, into our hand.”
25When their hearts were merry, they said, “Call for Samson, that he may entertain us.” They called for Samson out of the prison; and he performed before them. They set him between the pillars;
26and Samson said to the boy who held him by the hand, “Allow me to feel the pillars on which the house rests, that I may lean on them.”
27Now the house was full of men and women; and all the lords of the Philistines were there; and there were on the roof about three thousand men and women, who saw while Samson performed.
28Samson called to the LORD, and said, “Lord GOD, remember me, please, and strengthen me, please, only this once, God, that I may be at once avenged of the Philistines for my two eyes.”
