Un día Sansón fue a la ciudad filistea de Gaza y pasó la noche con una prostituta.

Y FUÉ Samsón á Gaza, y vió allí una mujer ramera, y entró á ella.

Pronto se supo que había sido visto en la ciudad, y montaron guardia junto a las puertas de la ciudad para capturarlo si trataba de irse. «En la mañana —decían ellos—, cuando haya suficiente luz, lo encontraremos y le daremos muerte».

Y fué dicho á los de Gaza: Samsón es venido acá. Y cercáronlo, y pusiéronle espías toda aquella noche á la puerta de la ciudad: y estuvieron callados toda aquella noche, diciendo: Hasta la luz de la mañana; entonces lo mataremos.

And it was told the Gazites, saying, Samson is come hither. And they compassed him in, and laid wait for him all night in the gate of the city, and were quiet all the night, saying, In the morning, when it is day, we shall kill him.

Entonces Dalila rogó a Sansón que le dijera su secreto. ―Sansón, dime por qué eres tan fuerte —le rogaba—. No creo que nadie sea capaz de capturarte.

Y Dalila dijo á Samsón: Yo te ruego que me declares en qué consiste tu grande fuerza, y cómo podrás ser atado para ser atormentado.

And Delilah said to Samson, Tell me, I pray thee, wherein thy great strength lieth, and wherewith thou mightest be bound to afflict thee.

―Cómo no —respondió Sansón—. Si me atan con siete mimbres verdes, quedaré tan débil como cualquiera.

Y respondióle Samsón: Si me ataren con siete mimbres verdes que aun no estén enjutos, entonces me debilitaré, y seré como cualquiera de los hombres.

Now there were men lying in wait, abiding with her in the chamber. And she said unto him, The Philistines be upon thee, Samson. And he brake the withs, as a thread of tow is broken when it toucheth the fire. So his strength was not known.

And Delilah said unto Samson, Behold, thou hast mocked me, and told me lies: now tell me, I pray thee, wherewith thou mightest be bound.

―Si me atan con cuerdas nuevas que jamás hayan sido usadas —le respondió—, seré tan débil como cualquier otro hombre.

Y él le dijo: Si me ataren fuertemente con cuerdas nuevas, con las cuales ninguna cosa se haya hecho, yo me debilitaré, y seré como cualquiera de los hombres.

And he said unto her, If they bind me fast with new ropes that never were occupied, then shall I be weak, and be as another man.

He said to her, “If they only bind me with new ropes with which no work has been done, then I will become weak, and be as another man.”

Nuevamente, mientras él dormía, Dalila tomó cuerdas nuevas y lo ató con ellas. Los filisteos estaban escondidos en la pieza contigua como antes. Una vez más Dalila dijo: ―¡Sansón, los filisteos han venido a capturarte! Pero él rompió las cuerdas con sus brazos como si fueran telas de araña.

Y Dalila tomó cuerdas nuevas, y atóle con ellas, y díjole: ¡Samsón, los Filisteos sobre ti! Y los espías estaban en una cámara. Mas él las rompió de sus brazos como un hilo.

Delilah therefore took new ropes, and bound him therewith, and said unto him, The Philistines be upon thee, Samson. And there were liers in wait abiding in the chamber. And he brake them from off his arms like a thread.

So Delilah took new ropes and bound him with them, then said to him, “The Philistines are on you, Samson!” The ambush was waiting in the inner room. He broke them off his arms like a thread.

―Te has burlado nuevamente de mí, y me has vuelto a mentir. Ahora dime cómo se te puede capturar. ―Si tejes mi cabello con un telar —le dijo—, yo me debilitaré.

Y Dalila dijo á Samsón: Hasta ahora me engañas, y tratas conmigo con mentiras. Descúbreme pues ahora cómo podrás ser atado. El entonces le dijo: Si tejieres siete guedejas de mi cabeza con la tela.

And Delilah said unto Samson, Hitherto thou hast mocked me, and told me lies: tell me wherewith thou mightest be bound. And he said unto her, If thou weavest the seven locks of my head with the web.

Delilah said to Samson, “Until now, you have mocked me and told me lies. Tell me with what you might be bound.” He said to her, “If you weave the seven locks of my head with the fabric on the loom.”

And she fastened it with the pin, and said unto him, The Philistines be upon thee, Samson. And he awaked out of his sleep, and went away with the pin of the beam, and with the web.

«¿Cómo puedes decir que me amas, si no confías en mí? —se quejó ella—. Ya te has burlado de mí tres veces y no me has dicho qué es lo que te da la fuerza».

Y ella le dijo: ¿Cómo dices, Yo te amo, pues que tu corazón no está conmigo? Ya me has engañado tres veces, y no me has aún descubierto en qué está tu gran fuerza.

And she said unto him, How canst thou say, I love thee, when thine heart is not with me? thou hast mocked me these three times, and hast not told me wherein thy great strength lieth.

She said to him, “How can you say, ‘I love you,’ when your heart is not with me? You have mocked me these three times, and have not told me where your great strength lies.”

Como Dalila lo acosaba e importunaba día tras día, él no pudo resistir

Y aconteció que, apretándole ella cada día con sus palabras é importunándole, su alma fué reducida á mortal angustia.

And it came to pass, when she pressed him daily with her words, and urged him, so that his soul was vexed unto death;

y finalmente le dijo el secreto. «Jamás me he cortado el pelo —confesó—, porque soy nazareo para Dios desde mi nacimiento. Si me cortaran el cabello, la fuerza me abandonaría y yo sería tan débil como un hombre común».

Descubrióle pues todo su corazón, y díjole: Nunca á mi cabeza llegó navaja; porque soy Nazareo de Dios desde el vientre de mi madre. Si fuere rapado, mi fuerza se apartará de mí, y seré debilitado, y como todos los hombres.

That he told her all his heart, and said unto her, There hath not come a razor upon mine head; for I have been a Nazarite unto God from my mother’s womb: if I be shaven, then my strength will go from me, and I shall become weak, and be like any other man.

And when Delilah saw that he had told her all his heart, she sent and called for the lords of the Philistines, saying, Come up this once, for he hath shewed me all his heart. Then the lords of the Philistines came up unto her, and brought money in their hand.

And she made him sleep upon her knees; and she called for a man, and she caused him to shave off the seven locks of his head; and she began to afflict him, and his strength went from him.

Entonces ella gritó: «¡Los filisteos están aquí para capturarte, Sansón!». Él despertó y pensó: «Haré como antes: me desharé de ellos». Pero no se había dado cuenta de que el Señor se había apartado de él.

Y díjole: ¡Samsón, los Filisteos sobre ti! Y luego que despertó él de su sueño, se dijo: Esta vez saldré como las otras, y me escaparé: no sabiendo que Jehová ya se había de él apartado.

And she said, The Philistines be upon thee, Samson. And he awoke out of his sleep, and said, I will go out as at other times before, and shake myself. And he wist not that the LORD was departed from him.

She said, “The Philistines are upon you, Samson!” He awoke out of his sleep, and said, “I will go out as at other times, and shake myself free.” But he didn’t know that the LORD had departed from him.

Los filisteos lo capturaron, le sacaron los ojos y se lo llevaron a Gaza, donde fue atado con cadenas de bronce y lo ocuparon para mover el molino y moler grano en la prisión.

Mas los Filisteos echaron mano de él, y sacáronle los ojos, y le llevaron á Gaza; y le ataron con cadenas, para que moliese en la cárcel.

Los jefes de los filisteos hicieron una gran fiesta a fin de celebrar la captura de Sansón. El pueblo hacía sacrificios al dios Dagón y lo alababan con mucho entusiasmo. «Nuestro dios nos ha librado de nuestro enemigo Sansón —gritaban satisfechos al verlo allí atado con cadenas—. El enemigo de nuestra nación, el que destruía nuestros campos, y el que ha matado a tantos de nosotros, ahora está en nuestro poder».

Entonces los príncipes de los Filisteos se juntaron para ofrecer sacrificio á Dagón su dios, y para alegrarse; y dijeron: Nuestro dios entregó en nuestras manos á Samsón nuestro enemigo.

El pueblo ya medio embriagado, pidió: «¡Traigan a Sansón para divertirnos a costa suya!». Lo llevaron desde la prisión y lo pusieron en medio del templo entre las dos columnas que sostenían el techo.

Y aconteció que, yéndose alegrando el corazón de ellos, dijeron: Llamad á Samsón, para que divierta delante de nosotros. Y llamaron á Samsón de la cárcel, y hacía de juguete delante de ellos; y pusiéronlo entre las columnas.

And it came to pass, when their hearts were merry, that they said, Call for Samson, that he may make us sport. And they called for Samson out of the prison house; and he made them sport: and they set him between the pillars.

Sansón le dijo al muchacho que lo guiaba de la mano: «Pon una de mis manos en cada columna, para apoyarme en ellas».

And Samson said unto the lad that held him by the hand, Suffer me that I may feel the pillars whereupon the house standeth, that I may lean upon them.

El templo estaba completamente lleno de gente. Todos los príncipes filisteos estaban allí también junto con tres mil personas que desde los balcones contemplaban a Sansón y se reían de él.

Y la casa estaba llena de hombres y mujeres: y todos los príncipes de los Filisteos estaban allí; y en el alto piso había como tres mil hombres y mujeres, que estaban mirando el escarnio de Samsón.

Entonces clamó Samsón á Jehová, y dijo: Señor Jehová, acuérdate ahora de mí, y esfuérzame, te ruego, solamente esta vez, oh Dios, para que de una vez tome venganza de los Filisteos, por mis dos ojos.

And Samson called unto the LORD, and said, O Lord GOD, remember me, I pray thee, and strengthen me, I pray thee, only this once, O God, that I may be at once avenged of the Philistines for my two eyes.

Entonces Sansón empujó fuertemente las columnas y gritó:

Asió luego Samsón las dos columnas del medio sobre las cuales se sustentaba la casa, y estribó en ellas, la una con la mano derecha, y la otra con la izquierda;

And Samson said, Let me die with the Philistines. And he bowed himself with all his might; and the house fell upon the lords, and upon all the people that were therein. So the dead which he slew at his death were more than they which he slew in his life.

Más tarde sus hermanos y otros parientes fueron a buscar el cuerpo, y lo llevaron nuevamente a su tierra y lo sepultaron entre Zora y Estaol, donde Manoa había sido sepultado. Sansón había gobernado a Israel durante veinte años.

Y descendieron sus hermanos y toda la casa de su padre, y tomáronle, y lleváronle, y le sepultaron entre Sora y Esthaol, en el sepulcro de su padre Manoa. Y él juzgó á Israel veinte años.
