En ce temps, où il n'y avait pas de roi en Israël, un homme de la tribu de Lévi, séjournant dans la partie la plus reculée de la montagne d'Ephraïm, prit pour concubine une femme de Bethléem de Juda.

EN aquellos días, cuando no había rey en Israel, hubo un Levita que moraba como peregrino en los lados del monte de Ephraim, el cual se había tomado mujer concubina de Beth-lehem de Judá.

And it came to pass in those days, when there was no king in Israel, that there was a certain Levite sojourning on the side of mount Ephraim, who took to him a concubine out of Beth-lehem-judah.

And her husband arose, and went after her, to speak friendly unto her, and to bring her again, having his servant with him, and a couple of asses: and she brought him into her father’s house: and when the father of the damsel saw him, he rejoiced to meet him.

Y viéndole el padre de la moza, salióle á recibir gozoso; y detúvole su suegro, padre de la moza, y quedó en su casa tres días, comiendo y bebiendo, y reposando allí.

And his father in law, the damsel’s father, retained him; and he abode with him three days: so they did eat and drink, and lodged there.

Et le quatrième jour, ils se levèrent de bon matin et il se disposait à partir. Et le père de la jeune fille dit à son gendre : Fortifie ton cœur en prenant un morceau de pain, et vous partirez ensuite.

Y al cuarto día, como se levantaron de mañana, levantóse también el Levita para irse, y el padre de la moza dijo á su yerno: Conforta tu corazón con un bocado de pan, y después os iréis.

And it came to pass on the fourth day, when they arose early in the morning, that he rose up to depart: and the damsel’s father said unto his son in law, Comfort thine heart with a morsel of bread, and afterward go your way.

Et ils s'assirent, et ils mangèrent tous deux ensemble et burent. Et le père de la jeune fille dit au mari : Consens, je te prie, à passer la nuit, et que ton cœur se réjouisse !

Y sentáronse ellos dos juntos, y comieron y bebieron. Y el padre de la moza dijo al varón: Yo te ruego que te quieras quedar aquí esta noche, y alegraráse tu corazón.

And they sat down, and did eat and drink both of them together: for the damsel’s father had said unto the man, Be content, I pray thee, and tarry all night, and let thine heart be merry.

So they sat down, ate, and drank, both of them together. Then the young lady’s father said to the man, “Please be pleased to stay all night, and let your heart be merry.”

Et le mari se leva pour s'en aller, mais son beau-père le pressa, et il revint et passa la nuit.

Y levantándose el varón para irse, el suegro le constriñó á que tornase y tuviese allí la noche.

And when the man rose up to depart, his father in law urged him: therefore he lodged there again.

Et le cinquième jour, il se leva de bon matin pour partir. Et le père de la jeune fille dit : Je te prie, fortifie ton cœur et diffère jusqu'à ce que le jour baisse. Et ils mangèrent tous deux.

Y al quinto día levantándose de mañana para irse, díjole el padre de la moza: Conforta ahora tu corazón. Y habiendo comido ambos á dos, detuviéronse hasta que ya declinaba el día.

And he arose early in the morning on the fifth day to depart: and the damsel’s father said, Comfort thine heart, I pray thee. And they tarried until afternoon, and they did eat both of them.

Et le mari se leva pour partir, lui et sa concubine et son serviteur, mais son beau-père, le père de la jeune fille, lui dit : Vois, je te prie, le jour faiblit ; le sombre vient, passez ici la nuit. Voici, le jour baisse, passe ici la nuit et que ton cœur se réjouisse ; et demain vous vous lèverez de bon matin pour vous mettre en route, et tu retourneras chez toi.

Levantóse luego el varón para irse, él, y su concubina, y su criado. Entonces su suegro, el padre de la moza, le dijo: He aquí el día declina para ponerse el sol, ruégote que os estéis aquí la noche; he aquí que el día se acaba, ten aquí la noche, para que se alegre tu corazón; y mañana os levantaréis temprano á vuestro camino, y llegarás á tus tiendas.

And when the man rose up to depart, he, and his concubine, and his servant, his father in law, the damsel’s father, said unto him, Behold, now the day draweth toward evening, I pray you tarry all night: behold, the day groweth to an end, lodge here, that thine heart may be merry; and to morrow get you early on your way, that thou mayest go home.

Behold, the day is ending. Stay here, that your heart may be merry; and tomorrow go on your way early, that you may go home.”

Et le mari ne voulut point passer la nuit et il se leva et partit. Et il vint jusqu'en face de Jébus, qui est Jérusalem, et il avait avec lui les deux ânes bâtés et sa concubine.

Mas el hombre no quiso quedar allí la noche, sino que se levantó y partió, y llegó hasta enfrente de Jebus, que es Jerusalem, con su par de asnos aparejados, y con su concubina.

But the man would not tarry that night, but he rose up and departed, and came over against Jebus, which is Jerusalem; and there were with him two asses saddled, his concubine also was with him.

Lorsqu'ils furent près de Jébus, le jour avait beaucoup baissé. Et le serviteur dit à son maître : Viens, je te prie, détournons nous vers cette ville des Jébusiens, et nous y passerons la nuit.

And when they were by Jebus, the day was far spent; and the servant said unto his master, Come, I pray thee, and let us turn in into this city of the Jebusites, and lodge in it.

Et son maître lui dit : Nous ne nous détournerons pas vers une ville étrangère, où il n'y a pas de fils d'Israël, et nous passerons jusqu'à Guibéa.

Y su señor le respondió: No iremos á ninguna ciudad de extranjeros, que no sea de los hijos de Israel: antes pasaremos hasta Gabaa. Y dijo á su criado:

And his master said unto him, We will not turn aside hither into the city of a stranger, that is not of the children of Israel; we will pass over to Gibeah.

His master said to him, “We won’t enter into the city of a foreigner that is not of the children of Israel; but we will pass over to Gibeah.”

Et il dit à son serviteur : Allons et tâchons d'atteindre l'une de ces localités, et nous passerons la nuit à Guibéa ou à Rama.

Ven, lleguemos á uno de esos lugares, para tener la noche en Gabaa, ó en Rama.

And he said unto his servant, Come, and let us draw near to one of these places to lodge all night, in Gibeah, or in Ramah.

He said to his servant, “Come and let’s draw near to one of these places; and we will lodge in Gibeah, or in Ramah.”

Et ils passèrent outre et continuèrent leur route, et le soleil se coucha pour eux comme ils étaient près de Guibéa qui est à Benjamin.

Pasando pues, caminaron, y púsoseles el sol junto á Gabaa, que era de Benjamín.

And they passed on and went their way; and the sun went down upon them when they were by Gibeah, which belongeth to Benjamin.

Et ils se détournèrent du chemin pour aller passer la nuit à Guibéa. Et il entra et s'arrêta sur la place de la ville, et il n'y eut personne qui les recueillit dans sa maison pour y passer la nuit.

Y apartáronse del camino para entrar á tener allí la noche en Gabaa; y entrando, sentáronse en la plaza de la ciudad, porque no hubo quien los acogiese en casa para pasar la noche.

And they turned aside thither, to go in and to lodge in Gibeah: and when he went in, he sat him down in a street of the city: for there was no man that took them into his house to lodging.

Et voici, un vieillard revenait le soir de son travail, de la campagne, et cet homme était de la montagne d'Ephraïm ; et il séjournait à Guibéa, et les gens du lieu étaient Benjamites.

Y he aquí un hombre viejo, que á la tarde venía del campo de trabajar; el cual era del monte de Ephraim, y moraba como peregrino en Gabaa, pero los moradores de aquel lugar eran hijos de Benjamín.

And, behold, there came an old man from his work out of the field at even, which was also of mount Ephraim; and he sojourned in Gibeah: but the men of the place were Benjamites.

Behold, an old man came from his work out of the field at evening. Now the man was from the hill country of Ephraim, and he lived in Gibeah; but the men of the place were Benjamites.

Et il leva les yeux et vit le voyageur sur la place de la ville ; et le vieillard dit : Où vas-tu et d'où viens-tu ?

Y alzando el viejo los ojos, vió á aquel viajante en la plaza de la ciudad, y díjole: ¿A dónde vas, y de dónde vienes?

And when he had lifted up his eyes, he saw a wayfaring man in the street of the city: and the old man said, Whither goest thou? and whence comest thou?

He lifted up his eyes, and saw the wayfaring man in the street of the city; and the old man said, “Where are you going? Where did you come from?”

Et il lui dit : Nous allons de Bethléem de Juda jusqu'à la partie la plus reculée de la montagne d'Ephraïm, d'où je suis. Je suis allé jusqu'à Bethléem de Juda, et je suis employé dans la maison de l'Eternel, et il n'y a personne qui me reçoive dans sa maison.

Y él respondió: Pasamos de Beth-lehem de Judá á los lados del monte de Ephraim, de donde yo soy; y partí hasta Beth-lehem de Judá; y voy á la casa de Jehová, y no hay quien me reciba en casa,

And he said unto him, We are passing from Beth-lehem-judah toward the side of mount Ephraim; from thence am I: and I went to Beth-lehem-judah, but I am now going to the house of the LORD; and there is no man that receiveth me to house.

He said to him, “We are passing from Bethlehem Judah to the farther side of the hill country of Ephraim. I am from there, and I went to Bethlehem Judah. I am going to the LORD’s house; and there is no one who has taken me into his house.

Et pourtant j'ai de la paille et du fourrage pour nos ânes, et aussi du pain et du vin pour moi, pour ta servante et pour le jeune homme qui est avec tes serviteurs ; nous avons de tout.

Aunque nosotros tenemos paja y de comer para nuestros asnos, y también tenemos pan y vino para mí y para tu sierva, y para el criado que está con tu siervo; de nada tenemos falta.

Yet there is both straw and provender for our asses; and there is bread and wine also for me, and for thy handmaid, and for the young man which is with thy servants: there is no want of any thing.

Yet there is both straw and feed for our donkeys; and there is bread and wine also for me, and for your servant, and for the young man who is with your servants. There is no lack of anything.”

Et le vieillard dit : La paix soit sur toi ! Seulement je te donnerai tout dont tu auras besoin ; mais tu ne passeras pas la nuit sur la place.

Y el hombre viejo dijo: Paz sea contigo; tu necesidad toda sea solamente á mi cargo, con tal que no tengas la noche en la plaza.

And the old man said, Peace be with thee; howsoever let all thy wants lie upon me; only lodge not in the street.

The old man said, “Peace be to you! Just let me supply all your needs, but don’t sleep in the street.”

Et il le fit entrer dans sa maison, et il donna du fourrage aux ânes, et ils se lavèrent les pieds ; et ils mangèrent et burent.

Y metiéndolos en su casa, dió de comer á sus asnos; y ellos se lavaron los pies, y comieron y bebieron.

So he brought him into his house, and gave provender unto the asses: and they washed their feet, and did eat and drink.

Pendant qu'ils étaient là à se réconforter, voici, les hommes de la ville, hommes pervers, entourèrent la maison, se ruant contre la porte, et ils dirent au vieillard, maître de la maison : Fais sortir l'homme qui est entré chez toi, pour que nous le connaissions.

Y cuando estaban gozosos, he aquí, que los hombres de aquella ciudad, hombres hijos de Belial, cercan la casa, y batían las puertas, diciendo al hombre viejo dueño de la casa: Saca fuera el hombre que ha entrado en tu casa, para que lo conozcamos.

Now as they were making their hearts merry, behold, the men of the city, certain sons of Belial, beset the house round about, and beat at the door, and spake to the master of the house, the old man, saying, Bring forth the man that came into thine house, that we may know him.

Et le maître de la maison sortit vers eux et leur dit : Non, mes frères, ne faites pas le mal, je vous prie ! Puisque cet homme est entré dans ma maison, ne commettez pas cette infamie.

Y saliendo á ellos aquel varón, amo de la casa, díjoles: No, hermanos míos, ruégoos que no cometáis este mal, pues que este hombre ha entrado en mi casa, no hagáis esta maldad.

And the man, the master of the house, went out unto them, and said unto them, Nay, my brethren, nay, I pray you, do not so wickedly; seeing that this man is come into mine house, do not this folly.

The man, the master of the house, went out to them, and said to them, “No, my brothers, please don’t act so wickedly; since this man has come into my house, don’t do this folly.

Voici, ma fille qui est vierge, et sa concubine, je vous les amènerai dehors ; vous leur ferez violence et vous les traiterez comme il vous plaira. Mais sur cet homme ne commettez pas cette action infâme.

He aquí mi hija virgen, y la concubina de él: yo os las sacaré ahora; humilladlas, y haced con ellas como os pareciere, y no hagáis á este hombre cosa tan infame.

Behold, here is my daughter a maiden, and his concubine; them I will bring out now, and humble ye them, and do with them what seemeth good unto you: but unto this man do not so vile a thing.

Et ces hommes ne voulurent pas l'écouter. Et l'homme prit sa concubine et la leur amena dehors. Et ils la connurent et abusèrent d'elle toute la nuit jusqu'au matin, et ils la renvoyèrent au lever de l'aurore.

Mas aquellos hombres no le quisieron oir; por lo que tomando aquel hombre su concubina, sacósela fuera: y ellos la conocieron, y abusaron de ella toda la noche hasta la mañana, y dejáronla cuando apuntaba el alba.

And he said unto her, Up, and let us be going. But none answered. Then the man took her up upon an ass, and the man rose up, and gat him unto his place.

He said to her, “Get up, and let’s get going!” but no one answered. Then he took her up on the donkey; and the man rose up, and went to his place.

Et arrivé dans sa maison, il prit le couteau, et saisit sa concubine, et la coupa membre par membre en douze morceaux, et il l'envoya dans tout le territoire d'Israël.

Y en llegando á su casa, toma un cuchillo, y echa mano de su concubina, y despedázala con sus huesos en doce partes, y enviólas por todos los términos de Israel.

Y todo el que lo veía, decía: Jamás se ha hecho ni visto tal cosa, desde el tiempo que los hijos de Israel subieron de la tierra de Egipto hasta hoy. Considerad esto, dad consejo, y hablad.

And it was so, that all that saw it said, There was no such deed done nor seen from the day that the children of Israel came up out of the land of Egypt unto this day: consider of it, take advice, and speak your minds.

It was so, that all who saw it said, “Such a deed has not been done or seen from the day that the children of Israel came up out of the land of Egypt to this day! Consider it, take counsel, and speak.”
