En aquellos días cuando no había rey en Israel, sucedió también que cierto varón levita que residía en los confines de la región montañosa de Efraín, tomó como concubina a una mujer de Belén de Judá.

EN aquellos días, cuando no había rey en Israel, hubo un Levita que moraba como peregrino en los lados del monte de Ephraim, el cual se había tomado mujer concubina de Beth-lehem de Judá.

And it came to pass in those days, when there was no king in Israel, that there was a certain Levite sojourning on the side of mount Ephraim, who took to him a concubine out of Beth-lehem-judah.

Pero su concubina cometió adulterio contra él y lo abandonó. Se fue a casa de su padre en Belén de Judá y estuvo allí cuatro meses.

Y su concubina adulteró contra él, y fuese de él á casa de su padre, á Beth-lehem de Judá, y estuvo allá por tiempo de cuatro meses.

And his concubine played the whore against him, and went away from him unto her father’s house to Beth-lehem-judah, and was there four whole months.

Pero su marido se levantó y la siguió para hablarle cariñosamente a fin de que volviera. Llevó consigo a un esclavo y una yunta de asnos, y ella lo invitó a entrar en casa de su padre.

Y levantóse su marido, y siguióla, para hablarle amorosamente y volverla, llevando consigo un criado suyo y un par de asnos; y ella le metió en la casa de su padre.

And her husband arose, and went after her, to speak friendly unto her, and to bring her again, having his servant with him, and a couple of asses: and she brought him into her father’s house: and when the father of the damsel saw him, he rejoiced to meet him.

Cuando lo vio el padre de la joven salió a recibirlo gozoso y su suegro lo detuvo, el padre de la joven, y se quedó en su casa tres días. Comía y bebía, y se alojaba allí.

Y viéndole el padre de la moza, salióle á recibir gozoso; y detúvole su suegro, padre de la moza, y quedó en su casa tres días, comiendo y bebiendo, y reposando allí.

And his father in law, the damsel’s father, retained him; and he abode with him three days: so they did eat and drink, and lodged there.

His father-in-law, the young lady’s father, kept him there; and he stayed with him three days. So they ate and drank, and stayed there.

Sucedió el cuarto día que se levantaron temprano por la mañana, y él se preparó para salir. Pero el padre de la joven dijo a su yerno: Susténtate con un bocado de pan, y después pueden irse.

Y al cuarto día, como se levantaron de mañana, levantóse también el Levita para irse, y el padre de la moza dijo á su yerno: Conforta tu corazón con un bocado de pan, y después os iréis.

And it came to pass on the fourth day, when they arose early in the morning, that he rose up to depart: and the damsel’s father said unto his son in law, Comfort thine heart with a morsel of bread, and afterward go your way.

On the fourth day, they got up early in the morning, and he rose up to depart. The young lady’s father said to his son-in-law, “Strengthen your heart with a morsel of bread, and afterward you shall go your way.”

Se sentaron, pues, y comieron los dos juntos y bebieron. Y el padre de la joven dijo al hombre: Te ruego que pases aquí la noche y que se alegre tu corazón.

Y sentáronse ellos dos juntos, y comieron y bebieron. Y el padre de la moza dijo al varón: Yo te ruego que te quieras quedar aquí esta noche, y alegraráse tu corazón.

And they sat down, and did eat and drink both of them together: for the damsel’s father had said unto the man, Be content, I pray thee, and tarry all night, and let thine heart be merry.

So they sat down, ate, and drank, both of them together. Then the young lady’s father said to the man, “Please be pleased to stay all night, and let your heart be merry.”

El hombre se levantó para irse, pero su suegro le insistió, y volvió a pernoctar allí.

Y levantándose el varón para irse, el suegro le constriñó á que tornase y tuviese allí la noche.

And when the man rose up to depart, his father in law urged him: therefore he lodged there again.

The man rose up to depart; but his father-in-law urged him, and he stayed there again.

El quinto día se levantó de mañana para salir, pero el padre de la joven le dijo: Te ruego que te sustentes, y esperes hasta la noche. Y ambos comieron juntos.

Y al quinto día levantándose de mañana para irse, díjole el padre de la moza: Conforta ahora tu corazón. Y habiendo comido ambos á dos, detuviéronse hasta que ya declinaba el día.

And he arose early in the morning on the fifth day to depart: and the damsel’s father said, Comfort thine heart, I pray thee. And they tarried until afternoon, and they did eat both of them.

He arose early in the morning on the fifth day to depart; and the young lady’s father said, “Please strengthen your heart and stay until the day declines;” and they both ate.

Cuando el hombre se levantó para salir con su concubina y su esclavo, su suegro, el padre de la joven, le dijo: Mira, ya llega la noche. Quédate, te lo ruego, toda la noche porque el día declinó. Pasa aquí la noche y alégrese tu corazón. Mañana emprenderán temprano su viaje, y te irás a tu tienda.

Levantóse luego el varón para irse, él, y su concubina, y su criado. Entonces su suegro, el padre de la moza, le dijo: He aquí el día declina para ponerse el sol, ruégote que os estéis aquí la noche; he aquí que el día se acaba, ten aquí la noche, para que se alegre tu corazón; y mañana os levantaréis temprano á vuestro camino, y llegarás á tus tiendas.

And when the man rose up to depart, he, and his concubine, and his servant, his father in law, the damsel’s father, said unto him, Behold, now the day draweth toward evening, I pray you tarry all night: behold, the day groweth to an end, lodge here, that thine heart may be merry; and to morrow get you early on your way, that thou mayest go home.

When the man rose up to depart, he, and his concubine, and his servant, his father-in-law, the young lady’s father, said to him, “Behold, now the day draws toward evening, please stay all night. Behold, the day is ending. Stay here, that your heart may be merry; and tomorrow go on your way early, that you may go home.”

Pero el hombre no aceptó pasar allí la noche, sino se levantó y, después de tomar camino, llegó hasta el frente de Jebus, la cual es Jerusalén. Llevaba consigo su yunta de asnos enalbardados y a su concubina.

Mas el hombre no quiso quedar allí la noche, sino que se levantó y partió, y llegó hasta enfrente de Jebus, que es Jerusalem, con su par de asnos aparejados, y con su concubina.

But the man would not tarry that night, but he rose up and departed, and came over against Jebus, which is Jerusalem; and there were with him two asses saddled, his concubine also was with him.

But the man wouldn’t stay that night, but he rose up and went near Jebus (also called Jerusalem). With him were a couple of saddled donkeys. His concubine also was with him.

Cuando estuvieron junto a Jebus se acababa el día, por lo cual el esclavo dijo a su ʼadon: Ven, te ruego, y desviémonos hacia aquella ciudad de los jebuseos, y pernoctemos en ella.

Y estando ya junto á Jebus, el día había declinado mucho: y dijo el criado á su señor: Ven ahora, y vámonos á esta ciudad de los Jebuseos, para que tengamos en ella la noche.

And when they were by Jebus, the day was far spent; and the servant said unto his master, Come, I pray thee, and let us turn in into this city of the Jebusites, and lodge in it.

Pero su ʼadón le respondió: No nos desviaremos a ninguna ciudad de extranjeros que no son de los hijos de Israel, sino seguiremos hasta Gabaa.

Y su señor le respondió: No iremos á ninguna ciudad de extranjeros, que no sea de los hijos de Israel: antes pasaremos hasta Gabaa. Y dijo á su criado:

And his master said unto him, We will not turn aside hither into the city of a stranger, that is not of the children of Israel; we will pass over to Gibeah.

His master said to him, “We won’t enter into the city of a foreigner that is not of the children of Israel; but we will pass over to Gibeah.”

Y dijo a su esclavo: Ven, nos acercamos a uno de esos lugares y pasaremos la noche en Gabaa o en Ramá.

Ven, lleguemos á uno de esos lugares, para tener la noche en Gabaa, ó en Rama.

And he said unto his servant, Come, and let us draw near to one of these places to lodge all night, in Gibeah, or in Ramah.

He said to his servant, “Come and let’s draw near to one of these places; and we will lodge in Gibeah, or in Ramah.”

Así que siguieron su camino, y el sol se les ocultó cerca de Gabaa, que era de Benjamín.

Pasando pues, caminaron, y púsoseles el sol junto á Gabaa, que era de Benjamín.

And they passed on and went their way; and the sun went down upon them when they were by Gibeah, which belongeth to Benjamin.

So they passed on and went their way; and the sun went down on them near Gibeah, which belongs to Benjamin.

Entraron para pasar la noche en Gabaa y se sentaron en la plaza de la ciudad, porque no hubo quien los recibiera en su casa para pasar la noche.

Y apartáronse del camino para entrar á tener allí la noche en Gabaa; y entrando, sentáronse en la plaza de la ciudad, porque no hubo quien los acogiese en casa para pasar la noche.

And they turned aside thither, to go in and to lodge in Gibeah: and when he went in, he sat him down in a street of the city: for there was no man that took them into his house to lodging.

They went over there, to go in to stay in Gibeah. He went in, and sat down in the street of the city; for there was no one who took them into his house to stay.

Y mira, regresaba un anciano de su faena en el campo al anochecer. El hombre era de la región montañosa de Efraín y se albergaba en Gabaa, pero las gentes del lugar eran benjamitas.

Y he aquí un hombre viejo, que á la tarde venía del campo de trabajar; el cual era del monte de Ephraim, y moraba como peregrino en Gabaa, pero los moradores de aquel lugar eran hijos de Benjamín.

And, behold, there came an old man from his work out of the field at even, which was also of mount Ephraim; and he sojourned in Gibeah: but the men of the place were Benjamites.

Behold, an old man came from his work out of the field at evening. Now the man was from the hill country of Ephraim, and he lived in Gibeah; but the men of the place were Benjamites.

Levantó sus ojos, y al ver al viajero en la plaza de la ciudad, el anciano preguntó: ¿A dónde vas y de dónde vienes?

Y alzando el viejo los ojos, vió á aquel viajante en la plaza de la ciudad, y díjole: ¿A dónde vas, y de dónde vienes?

And when he had lifted up his eyes, he saw a wayfaring man in the street of the city: and the old man said, Whither goest thou? and whence comest thou?

He lifted up his eyes, and saw the wayfaring man in the street of the city; and the old man said, “Where are you going? Where did you come from?”

Y le contestó: Estamos de paso desde Belén de Judá hacia la parte más remota de la región montañosa de Efraín, de donde soy. Fui a Belén de Judá y ahora voy a la Casa de Yavé, pero no hay quien me reciba en su casa.

Y él respondió: Pasamos de Beth-lehem de Judá á los lados del monte de Ephraim, de donde yo soy; y partí hasta Beth-lehem de Judá; y voy á la casa de Jehová, y no hay quien me reciba en casa,

And he said unto him, We are passing from Beth-lehem-judah toward the side of mount Ephraim; from thence am I: and I went to Beth-lehem-judah, but I am now going to the house of the LORD; and there is no man that receiveth me to house.

He said to him, “We are passing from Bethlehem Judah to the farther side of the hill country of Ephraim. I am from there, and I went to Bethlehem Judah. I am going to the LORD’s house; and there is no one who has taken me into his house.

Tenemos pasto y forraje para nuestros asnos, así como pan y vino para mí, para tu esclava y para el esclavo que va con tu esclava. Nada nos falta.

Aunque nosotros tenemos paja y de comer para nuestros asnos, y también tenemos pan y vino para mí y para tu sierva, y para el criado que está con tu siervo; de nada tenemos falta.

Yet there is both straw and provender for our asses; and there is bread and wine also for me, and for thy handmaid, and for the young man which is with thy servants: there is no want of any thing.

Yet there is both straw and feed for our donkeys; and there is bread and wine also for me, and for your servant, and for the young man who is with your servants. There is no lack of anything.”

Y el hombre anciano dijo: ¡Paz a ti! Toda tu necesidad estará exclusivamente a mi cargo, solo que no pases la noche en la plaza abierta.

Y el hombre viejo dijo: Paz sea contigo; tu necesidad toda sea solamente á mi cargo, con tal que no tengas la noche en la plaza.

And the old man said, Peace be with thee; howsoever let all thy wants lie upon me; only lodge not in the street.

The old man said, “Peace be to you! Just let me supply all your needs, but don’t sleep in the street.”

Los llevó a su casa y dio forraje a sus asnos. Luego se lavaron los pies, comieron y bebieron.

Y metiéndolos en su casa, dió de comer á sus asnos; y ellos se lavaron los pies, y comieron y bebieron.

So he brought him into his house, and gave provender unto the asses: and they washed their feet, and did eat and drink.

So he brought him into his house, and gave the donkeys fodder. Then they washed their feet, and ate and drank.

Mientras celebraban, llegaron ahí unos hombres perversos de aquella ciudad que rodearon la casa. Se agolparon en la puerta y hablaron al anciano dueño de la casa, y dijeron: ¡Sácanos al hombre que entró a tu casa para que tengamos relaciones sexuales con él!

Y cuando estaban gozosos, he aquí, que los hombres de aquella ciudad, hombres hijos de Belial, cercan la casa, y batían las puertas, diciendo al hombre viejo dueño de la casa: Saca fuera el hombre que ha entrado en tu casa, para que lo conozcamos.

Now as they were making their hearts merry, behold, the men of the city, certain sons of Belial, beset the house round about, and beat at the door, and spake to the master of the house, the old man, saying, Bring forth the man that came into thine house, that we may know him.

As they were making their hearts merry, behold, the men of the city, certain wicked fellows, surrounded the house, beating at the door; and they spoke to the master of the house, the old man, saying, “Bring out the man who came into your house, that we can have sex with him!”

El dueño de la casa salió a ellos y les dijo: No, hermanos míos, les ruego. No hagan esta maldad puesto que este hombre entró en mi casa. No cometan tal infamia.

Y saliendo á ellos aquel varón, amo de la casa, díjoles: No, hermanos míos, ruégoos que no cometáis este mal, pues que este hombre ha entrado en mi casa, no hagáis esta maldad.

And the man, the master of the house, went out unto them, and said unto them, Nay, my brethren, nay, I pray you, do not so wickedly; seeing that this man is come into mine house, do not this folly.

The man, the master of the house, went out to them, and said to them, “No, my brothers, please don’t act so wickedly; since this man has come into my house, don’t do this folly.

Aquí está mi hija virgen y la concubina de él. A éstas les sacaré si les place, y humíllenlas. Hagan con ellas lo que les parezca bien, pero a este hombre no le hagan tal infamia.

He aquí mi hija virgen, y la concubina de él: yo os las sacaré ahora; humilladlas, y haced con ellas como os pareciere, y no hagáis á este hombre cosa tan infame.

Behold, here is my daughter a maiden, and his concubine; them I will bring out now, and humble ye them, and do with them what seemeth good unto you: but unto this man do not so vile a thing.

Behold, here is my virgin daughter and his concubine. I will bring them out now. Humble them, and do with them what seems good to you; but to this man don’t do any such folly.”

Pero los hombres no quisieron escucharlo, por lo cual el hombre obligó a su concubina y la hizo salir a ellos, los cuales abusaron sexualmente de ella toda aquella noche hasta la mañana y la dejaron al rayar el alba.

Mas aquellos hombres no le quisieron oir; por lo que tomando aquel hombre su concubina, sacósela fuera: y ellos la conocieron, y abusaron de ella toda la noche hasta la mañana, y dejáronla cuando apuntaba el alba.

But the men would not hearken to him: so the man took his concubine, and brought her forth unto them; and they knew her, and abused her all the night until the morning: and when the day began to spring, they let her go.

Cuando amanecía, la mujer llegó y cayó en la puerta de la casa de aquel hombre donde estaba su marido, hasta que aclaró el día.

Y ya que amanecía, la mujer vino, y cayó delante de la puerta de la casa de aquel hombre donde su señor estaba, hasta que fué de día.

Then came the woman in the dawning of the day, and fell down at the door of the man’s house where her lord was, till it was light.

Al levantarse su marido por la mañana, abrió las puertas de la casa y salió para proseguir su camino, y ciertamente su concubina estaba tendida a la puerta de la casa, con sus manos en la entrada.

Y levantándose de mañana su señor, abrió las puertas de la casa, y salió para ir su camino, y he aquí, la mujer su concubina estaba tendida delante de la puerta de la casa, con las manos sobre el umbral.

And her lord rose up in the morning, and opened the doors of the house, and went out to go his way: and, behold, the woman his concubine was fallen down at the door of the house, and her hands were upon the threshold.

Y él le dijo: Levántate y vámonos. Pero ella no respondió. Entonces el varón se levantó, la echó sobre el asno y se fue a su lugar.

And he said unto her, Up, and let us be going. But none answered. Then the man took her up upon an ass, and the man rose up, and gat him unto his place.

He said to her, “Get up, and let’s get going!” but no one answered. Then he took her up on the donkey; and the man rose up, and went to his place.

Cuando entró en su casa tomó un cuchillo y echó mano a su concubina. La descuartizó por sus huesos en 12 pedazos y la envió por todo el territorio de Israel.

Y en llegando á su casa, toma un cuchillo, y echa mano de su concubina, y despedázala con sus huesos en doce partes, y enviólas por todos los términos de Israel.

And when he was come into his house, he took a knife, and laid hold on his concubine, and divided her, together with her bones, into twelve pieces, and sent her into all the coasts of Israel.

Y todo el que lo veía, decía: Jamás se ha hecho ni visto tal cosa, desde el tiempo que los hijos de Israel subieron de la tierra de Egipto hasta hoy. Considerad esto, dad consejo, y hablad.

And it was so, that all that saw it said, There was no such deed done nor seen from the day that the children of Israel came up out of the land of Egypt unto this day: consider of it, take advice, and speak your minds.

It was so, that all who saw it said, “Such a deed has not been done or seen from the day that the children of Israel came up out of the land of Egypt to this day! Consider it, take counsel, and speak.”
