Und es geschah in jenen Tagen, da kein König in Israel war, daß ein Mann, ein Levite, sich auf der Hinterseite des Gebirges Ephraim als Fremdling aufhielt, und sich ein Weib, ein Kebsweib nahm, aus Bethlehem Judah.

EN aquellos días, cuando no había rey en Israel, hubo un Levita que moraba como peregrino en los lados del monte de Ephraim, el cual se había tomado mujer concubina de Beth-lehem de Judá.

And it came to pass in those days, when there was no king in Israel, that there was a certain Levite sojourning on the side of mount Ephraim, who took to him a concubine out of Beth-lehem-judah.

In those days, when there was no king in Israel, there was a certain Levite living on the farther side of the hill country of Ephraim, who took for himself a concubine out of Bethlehem Judah.

Und sein Kebsweib buhlte neben ihm und ging fort von ihm zum Haus ihres Vaters nach Bethlehem Judah, und war allda etliche Tage, vier Monate.

Y su concubina adulteró contra él, y fuese de él á casa de su padre, á Beth-lehem de Judá, y estuvo allá por tiempo de cuatro meses.

And his concubine played the whore against him, and went away from him unto her father’s house to Beth-lehem-judah, and was there four whole months.

Und ihr Mann machte sich auf und ging ihr nach, um an ihr Herz zu reden, um sie zurückzubringen, und hatte seinen Jungen und ein Paar Esel mit sich. Und sie führte ihn hinein in das Haus ihres Vaters. Und der Vater der Dirne sah ihn und ging ihm fröhlich entgegen.

Y levantóse su marido, y siguióla, para hablarle amorosamente y volverla, llevando consigo un criado suyo y un par de asnos; y ella le metió en la casa de su padre.

And her husband arose, and went after her, to speak friendly unto her, and to bring her again, having his servant with him, and a couple of asses: and she brought him into her father’s house: and when the father of the damsel saw him, he rejoiced to meet him.

Und sein Schwäher, der Vater der Dirne, hielt ihn, und er blieb bei ihm drei Tage; und sie aßen und tranken und übernachteten daselbst.

Y viéndole el padre de la moza, salióle á recibir gozoso; y detúvole su suegro, padre de la moza, y quedó en su casa tres días, comiendo y bebiendo, y reposando allí.

And his father in law, the damsel’s father, retained him; and he abode with him three days: so they did eat and drink, and lodged there.

His father-in-law, the young lady’s father, kept him there; and he stayed with him three days. So they ate and drank, and stayed there.

Und es geschah am vierten Tage, daß sie sich früh am Morgen aufmachten, und er machte sich auf, um zu gehen. Und der Vater der Dirne sprach zu seinem Eidam: Labe dein Herz mit einem Bissen Brot und danach möget ihr gehen.

Y al cuarto día, como se levantaron de mañana, levantóse también el Levita para irse, y el padre de la moza dijo á su yerno: Conforta tu corazón con un bocado de pan, y después os iréis.

And it came to pass on the fourth day, when they arose early in the morning, that he rose up to depart: and the damsel’s father said unto his son in law, Comfort thine heart with a morsel of bread, and afterward go your way.

On the fourth day, they got up early in the morning, and he rose up to depart. The young lady’s father said to his son-in-law, “Strengthen your heart with a morsel of bread, and afterward you shall go your way.”

Und sie saßen nieder und aßen beide miteinander und tranken. Und der Vater der Dirne sprach zu dem Manne: Beliebe doch und bleib über Nacht, und laß dein Herz guter Dinge sein!

Y sentáronse ellos dos juntos, y comieron y bebieron. Y el padre de la moza dijo al varón: Yo te ruego que te quieras quedar aquí esta noche, y alegraráse tu corazón.

And they sat down, and did eat and drink both of them together: for the damsel’s father had said unto the man, Be content, I pray thee, and tarry all night, and let thine heart be merry.

So they sat down, ate, and drank, both of them together. Then the young lady’s father said to the man, “Please be pleased to stay all night, and let your heart be merry.”

Und der Mann stand auf, um zu gehen; sein Schwäher aber drang in ihn, und er kehrte zurück und übernachtete allda.

Y levantándose el varón para irse, el suegro le constriñó á que tornase y tuviese allí la noche.

And when the man rose up to depart, his father in law urged him: therefore he lodged there again.

Und am fünften Tag stand er früh am Morgen auf, um zu gehen; und der Vater der Dirne sprach: Labe doch dein Herz und säumet, bis der Tag sich neigt. Und sie aßen beide.

Y al quinto día levantándose de mañana para irse, díjole el padre de la moza: Conforta ahora tu corazón. Y habiendo comido ambos á dos, detuviéronse hasta que ya declinaba el día.

And he arose early in the morning on the fifth day to depart: and the damsel’s father said, Comfort thine heart, I pray thee. And they tarried until afternoon, and they did eat both of them.

He arose early in the morning on the fifth day to depart; and the young lady’s father said, “Please strengthen your heart and stay until the day declines;” and they both ate.

Und der Mann stand auf, um zu gehen, er und sein Kebsweib und sein Junge. Und sein Schwäher, der Vater der Dirne, sprach zu ihm: Siehe doch, der Tag senkt sich zum Abend; übernachtet doch! Siehe, der Tag hat sich geneigt. Übernachte hier! Laß dein Herz guter Dinge sein, und morgen machet ihr euch früh auf euren Weg, und du gehst nach deinem Zelt.

Levantóse luego el varón para irse, él, y su concubina, y su criado. Entonces su suegro, el padre de la moza, le dijo: He aquí el día declina para ponerse el sol, ruégote que os estéis aquí la noche; he aquí que el día se acaba, ten aquí la noche, para que se alegre tu corazón; y mañana os levantaréis temprano á vuestro camino, y llegarás á tus tiendas.

And when the man rose up to depart, he, and his concubine, and his servant, his father in law, the damsel’s father, said unto him, Behold, now the day draweth toward evening, I pray you tarry all night: behold, the day groweth to an end, lodge here, that thine heart may be merry; and to morrow get you early on your way, that thou mayest go home.

When the man rose up to depart, he, and his concubine, and his servant, his father-in-law, the young lady’s father, said to him, “Behold, now the day draws toward evening, please stay all night. Behold, the day is ending. Stay here, that your heart may be merry; and tomorrow go on your way early, that you may go home.”

Der Mann aber wollte nicht übernachten und machte sich auf, und zog hin und kam bis vor Jebus, das ist Jerusalem, und mit ihm sein Paar beladene Esel und sein Kebsweib war mit ihm.

Mas el hombre no quiso quedar allí la noche, sino que se levantó y partió, y llegó hasta enfrente de Jebus, que es Jerusalem, con su par de asnos aparejados, y con su concubina.

But the man would not tarry that night, but he rose up and departed, and came over against Jebus, which is Jerusalem; and there were with him two asses saddled, his concubine also was with him.

But the man wouldn’t stay that night, but he rose up and went near Jebus (also called Jerusalem). With him were a couple of saddled donkeys. His concubine also was with him.

Sie waren bei Jebus, und der Tag hatte sich sehr geneigt. Und der Junge sprach zu seinem Herrn: Komm doch und laß uns einkehren in dieser Stadt der Jebusiter und in ihr übernachten.

Y estando ya junto á Jebus, el día había declinado mucho: y dijo el criado á su señor: Ven ahora, y vámonos á esta ciudad de los Jebuseos, para que tengamos en ella la noche.

And when they were by Jebus, the day was far spent; and the servant said unto his master, Come, I pray thee, and let us turn in into this city of the Jebusites, and lodge in it.

When they were by Jebus, the day was far spent; and the servant said to his master, “Please come and let’s enter into this city of the Jebusites, and stay in it.”

Und sein Herr sprach zu ihm: Nein, wir wollen nicht in der Stadt der Ausländischen einkehren, die nicht von den Söhnen Israels sind, sondern nach Gibeah hinüberziehen.

Y su señor le respondió: No iremos á ninguna ciudad de extranjeros, que no sea de los hijos de Israel: antes pasaremos hasta Gabaa. Y dijo á su criado:

And his master said unto him, We will not turn aside hither into the city of a stranger, that is not of the children of Israel; we will pass over to Gibeah.

His master said to him, “We won’t enter into the city of a foreigner that is not of the children of Israel; but we will pass over to Gibeah.”

Und er sagte zu seinem Jungen: Gehe, daß wir einem der Orte uns nähern und in Gibeah oder Ramah übernachten.

Ven, lleguemos á uno de esos lugares, para tener la noche en Gabaa, ó en Rama.

And he said unto his servant, Come, and let us draw near to one of these places to lodge all night, in Gibeah, or in Ramah.

He said to his servant, “Come and let’s draw near to one of these places; and we will lodge in Gibeah, or in Ramah.”

Und sie gingen vorüber und zogen hin; bei Gibeah aber, das des Benjamin ist, ging ihnen die Sonne unter.

Pasando pues, caminaron, y púsoseles el sol junto á Gabaa, que era de Benjamín.

And they passed on and went their way; and the sun went down upon them when they were by Gibeah, which belongeth to Benjamin.

So they passed on and went their way; and the sun went down on them near Gibeah, which belongs to Benjamin.

Und sie wandten sich dort ab, um nach Gibeah zu kommen zum Übernachten. Und er kam hinein und setzte sich nieder in der Straße der Stadt; und es war kein Mann, der sie ins Haus zum Übernachten aufgenommen hätte.

Y apartáronse del camino para entrar á tener allí la noche en Gabaa; y entrando, sentáronse en la plaza de la ciudad, porque no hubo quien los acogiese en casa para pasar la noche.

And they turned aside thither, to go in and to lodge in Gibeah: and when he went in, he sat him down in a street of the city: for there was no man that took them into his house to lodging.

They went over there, to go in to stay in Gibeah. He went in, and sat down in the street of the city; for there was no one who took them into his house to stay.

Und siehe, ein alter Mann kam am Abend von seiner Arbeit vom Feld. Und der Mann war vom Gebirge Ephraim, und er hielt sich als Fremdling in Gibeah auf; die Männer des Ortes aber waren Benjaminiter.

Y he aquí un hombre viejo, que á la tarde venía del campo de trabajar; el cual era del monte de Ephraim, y moraba como peregrino en Gabaa, pero los moradores de aquel lugar eran hijos de Benjamín.

And, behold, there came an old man from his work out of the field at even, which was also of mount Ephraim; and he sojourned in Gibeah: but the men of the place were Benjamites.

Behold, an old man came from his work out of the field at evening. Now the man was from the hill country of Ephraim, and he lived in Gibeah; but the men of the place were Benjamites.

Und er hob seine Augen auf und sah den Mann, den Reisenden, auf der Straße der Stadt; und der alte Mann sprach: Wohin gehst du, und woher kommst du?

Y alzando el viejo los ojos, vió á aquel viajante en la plaza de la ciudad, y díjole: ¿A dónde vas, y de dónde vienes?

And when he had lifted up his eyes, he saw a wayfaring man in the street of the city: and the old man said, Whither goest thou? and whence comest thou?

He lifted up his eyes, and saw the wayfaring man in the street of the city; and the old man said, “Where are you going? Where did you come from?”

Und er sprach zu ihm: Wir ziehen hin von Bethlehem Judah an die Seite des Gebirges Ephraim. Von dort bin ich, und ging nach Bethlehem Judah, und ich gehe nach dem Hause Jehovahs, und kein Mann nimmt mich ins Haus auf.

Y él respondió: Pasamos de Beth-lehem de Judá á los lados del monte de Ephraim, de donde yo soy; y partí hasta Beth-lehem de Judá; y voy á la casa de Jehová, y no hay quien me reciba en casa,

And he said unto him, We are passing from Beth-lehem-judah toward the side of mount Ephraim; from thence am I: and I went to Beth-lehem-judah, but I am now going to the house of the LORD; and there is no man that receiveth me to house.

He said to him, “We are passing from Bethlehem Judah to the farther side of the hill country of Ephraim. I am from there, and I went to Bethlehem Judah. I am going to the LORD’s house; and there is no one who has taken me into his house.

Und wir haben sowohl Stroh und Futter für unsere Esel, als auch Brot und Wein für mich und deine Magd und für den Jungen, der bei deinem Knechte ist; es ist kein Mangel an irgend etwas.

Aunque nosotros tenemos paja y de comer para nuestros asnos, y también tenemos pan y vino para mí y para tu sierva, y para el criado que está con tu siervo; de nada tenemos falta.

Yet there is both straw and provender for our asses; and there is bread and wine also for me, and for thy handmaid, and for the young man which is with thy servants: there is no want of any thing.

Yet there is both straw and feed for our donkeys; and there is bread and wine also for me, and for your servant, and for the young man who is with your servants. There is no lack of anything.”

Und der alte Mann sprach: Friede sei mit dir! Nur sei alles, was dir mangelt, auf mir, nur übernachte nicht hier auf der Straße.

Y el hombre viejo dijo: Paz sea contigo; tu necesidad toda sea solamente á mi cargo, con tal que no tengas la noche en la plaza.

And the old man said, Peace be with thee; howsoever let all thy wants lie upon me; only lodge not in the street.

The old man said, “Peace be to you! Just let me supply all your needs, but don’t sleep in the street.”

Und er brachte ihn in sein Haus, und mischte Futter für die Esel, und sie wuschen ihre Füße, und sie aßen und tranken.

Y metiéndolos en su casa, dió de comer á sus asnos; y ellos se lavaron los pies, y comieron y bebieron.

So he brought him into his house, and gave provender unto the asses: and they washed their feet, and did eat and drink.

So he brought him into his house, and gave the donkeys fodder. Then they washed their feet, and ate and drank.

Und ihr Herz war guter Dinge; aber siehe, die Männer der Stadt, Männer, die Belialssöhne waren, umgaben das Haus, pochten an die Tür und sprachen zu dem Manne, dem Meister des Hauses, dem Alten, und sagten: Bringe den Mann heraus, der zu deinem Haus gekommen ist, daß wir ihn erkennen.

Y cuando estaban gozosos, he aquí, que los hombres de aquella ciudad, hombres hijos de Belial, cercan la casa, y batían las puertas, diciendo al hombre viejo dueño de la casa: Saca fuera el hombre que ha entrado en tu casa, para que lo conozcamos.

Now as they were making their hearts merry, behold, the men of the city, certain sons of Belial, beset the house round about, and beat at the door, and spake to the master of the house, the old man, saying, Bring forth the man that came into thine house, that we may know him.

As they were making their hearts merry, behold, the men of the city, certain wicked fellows, surrounded the house, beating at the door; and they spoke to the master of the house, the old man, saying, “Bring out the man who came into your house, that we can have sex with him!”

Und der Mann, der Meister des Hauses, ging zu ihnen hinaus und sprach zu ihnen: Nicht doch, meine Brüder, tut doch nicht Böses, nachdem der Mann zu meinem Haus gekommen ist. Machet nicht solche Torheit!

Y saliendo á ellos aquel varón, amo de la casa, díjoles: No, hermanos míos, ruégoos que no cometáis este mal, pues que este hombre ha entrado en mi casa, no hagáis esta maldad.

And the man, the master of the house, went out unto them, and said unto them, Nay, my brethren, nay, I pray you, do not so wickedly; seeing that this man is come into mine house, do not this folly.

The man, the master of the house, went out to them, and said to them, “No, my brothers, please don’t act so wickedly; since this man has come into my house, don’t do this folly.

Siehe, meine Tochter, die Jungfrau und sein Kebsweib, sie lasset mich zu euch herausführen, und schwächet sie und tut mit ihnen, was gut in euren Augen ist; aber an diesem Manne sollt ihr nichts von solcher Torheit tun.

He aquí mi hija virgen, y la concubina de él: yo os las sacaré ahora; humilladlas, y haced con ellas como os pareciere, y no hagáis á este hombre cosa tan infame.

Behold, here is my daughter a maiden, and his concubine; them I will bring out now, and humble ye them, and do with them what seemeth good unto you: but unto this man do not so vile a thing.

Behold, here is my virgin daughter and his concubine. I will bring them out now. Humble them, and do with them what seems good to you; but to this man don’t do any such folly.”

Aber die Männer waren nicht willens, auf ihn zu hören; da faßte der Mann sein Kebsweib und brachte sie hinaus zu ihnen, und sie erkannten sie und mißhandelten sie die ganze Nacht bis zum Morgen, und als die Morgenröte aufging entließen sie dieselbe.

Mas aquellos hombres no le quisieron oir; por lo que tomando aquel hombre su concubina, sacósela fuera: y ellos la conocieron, y abusaron de ella toda la noche hasta la mañana, y dejáronla cuando apuntaba el alba.

But the men would not hearken to him: so the man took his concubine, and brought her forth unto them; and they knew her, and abused her all the night until the morning: and when the day began to spring, they let her go.

But the men wouldn’t listen to him; so the man grabbed his concubine, and brought her out to them; and they had sex with her, and abused her all night until the morning. When the day began to dawn, they let her go.

Und das Weib kam mit Anbruch des Morgens und fiel hin am Eingang des Hauses des Mannes, wo ihr Herr war, bis es licht ward.

Y ya que amanecía, la mujer vino, y cayó delante de la puerta de la casa de aquel hombre donde su señor estaba, hasta que fué de día.

Then came the woman in the dawning of the day, and fell down at the door of the man’s house where her lord was, till it was light.

Und ihr Herr stand am Morgen auf und öffnete die Türen des Hauses und kam heraus, um seines Weges zu gehen, und siehe, das Weib, sein Kebsweib, war am Eingang des Hauses hingefallen und ihre Hände auf der Schwelle.

Y levantándose de mañana su señor, abrió las puertas de la casa, y salió para ir su camino, y he aquí, la mujer su concubina estaba tendida delante de la puerta de la casa, con las manos sobre el umbral.

And her lord rose up in the morning, and opened the doors of the house, and went out to go his way: and, behold, the woman his concubine was fallen down at the door of the house, and her hands were upon the threshold.

And he said unto her, Up, and let us be going. But none answered. Then the man took her up upon an ass, and the man rose up, and gat him unto his place.

He said to her, “Get up, and let’s get going!” but no one answered. Then he took her up on the donkey; and the man rose up, and went to his place.

Und er kam in sein Haus und nahm ein Messer und faßte sein Kebsweib und zerstückte sie nach ihren Gebeinen in zwölf Stücke und sandte sie in alle Grenzen von Israel.

Y en llegando á su casa, toma un cuchillo, y echa mano de su concubina, y despedázala con sus huesos en doce partes, y enviólas por todos los términos de Israel.

And when he was come into his house, he took a knife, and laid hold on his concubine, and divided her, together with her bones, into twelve pieces, and sent her into all the coasts of Israel.

When he had come into his house, he took a knife and cut up his concubine, and divided her, limb by limb, into twelve pieces, and sent her throughout all the borders of Israel.

Und es geschah, daß jeder, der es sah, sprach: So etwas ist nicht geschehen, noch gesehen worden, seit dem Tage, da die Söhne Israels aus dem Lande Ägypten heraufzogen bis auf diesen Tag. Überlegt es bei euch, ratet und redet.

Y todo el que lo veía, decía: Jamás se ha hecho ni visto tal cosa, desde el tiempo que los hijos de Israel subieron de la tierra de Egipto hasta hoy. Considerad esto, dad consejo, y hablad.

And it was so, that all that saw it said, There was no such deed done nor seen from the day that the children of Israel came up out of the land of Egypt unto this day: consider of it, take advice, and speak your minds.

It was so, that all who saw it said, “Such a deed has not been done or seen from the day that the children of Israel came up out of the land of Egypt to this day! Consider it, take counsel, and speak.”
