Y cuando vengan sus padres y hermanos, y comenzaren a querellarse contra vosotros y acusaros de esta violencia, nosotros les diremos: Tened lástima de ellos: pues no las han tomado como los vencedores toman las cautivas por derecho de guerra, sino como esposos que después de haberlas pretendido con ruegos no se las disteis; y así la culpa de la violencia es vuestra.
Y cuando vinieren los padres de ellas ó sus hermanos á demandárnoslo, nosotros les diremos: Tened piedad de nosotros en lugar de ellos: pues que nosotros en la guerra no tomamos mujeres para todos: que vosotros no se las habéis dado, para que ahora seáis culpables.
And it shall be, when their fathers or their brethren come unto us to complain, that we will say unto them, Be favourable unto them for our sakes: because we reserved not to each man his wife in the war: for ye did not give unto them at this time, that ye should be guilty.
It shall be, when their fathers or their brothers come to complain to us, that we will say to them, ‘Grant them graciously to us, because we didn’t take for each man his wife in battle, neither did you give them to them; otherwise you would now be guilty.’”
