Esta es la lista de las naciones que el Señor dejó en la tierra para probar a la nueva generación de Israel que no había participado en las guerras de Canaán,
ESTAS, pues, son las gentes que dejó Jehová para probar con ellas á Israel, á todos aquellos que no habían conocido todas las guerras de Canaán;

Antes de salir en su viaje, se hizo una daga de doble filo de medio metro de largo y la escondió en su ropa junto a su costado derecho.

Después de entregarle el dinero al rey Eglón, quien era muy gordo, inició su viaje de regreso. Mas él se volvió desde los ídolos que están en Gilgal, y dijo: Rey, una palabra secreta tengo que decirte. El entonces dijo: Calla. Y saliéronse de con él todos los que delante de él estaban.
But he himself turned again from the quarries that were by Gilgal, and said, I have a secret errand unto thee, O king: who said, Keep silence. And all that stood by him went out from him.
But he himself turned back from the stone idols that were by Gilgal, and said, “I have a secret message for you, O king.” The king said, “Keep silence!” All who stood by him left him.
Aod avanzó hasta donde estaba sentado Eglón en su sala de verano y le dijo: ―Es algo que Dios te manda. El rey Eglón se puso de pie inmediatamente para recibir lo que Aod traía para él,
Y llegóse Aod á él, el cual estaba sentado solo en una sala de verano. Y Aod dijo: Tengo palabra de Dios para ti. El entonces se levantó de la silla.
And Ehud came unto him; and he was sitting in a summer parlour, which he had for himself alone. And Ehud said, I have a message from God unto thee. And he arose out of his seat.

y Aod, con su fuerte mano izquierda sacó la daga de doble filo de debajo de su túnica y la enterró en el vientre del rey.
Mas Aod metió su mano izquierda, y tomó el puñal de su lado derecho, y metióselo por el vientre;
And Ehud put forth his left hand, and took the dagger from his right thigh, and thrust it into his belly:
Ehud put out his left hand, and took the sword from his right thigh, and thrust it into his body.
La empuñadura de la daga desapareció debajo de la carne, y la grasa la cubrió al salírsele el excremento por la herida. Dejando allí la daga, Aod cerró la puerta tras de sí con el cerrojo y escapó por el corredor.
De tal manera que la empuñadura entró también tras la hoja, y la grosura encerró la hoja, que él no sacó el puñal de su vientre: y salió el estiércol.
And the haft also went in after the blade; and the fat closed upon the blade, so that he could not draw the dagger out of his belly; and the dirt came out.

Cuando volvieron los siervos del rey y vieron que las puertas estaban cerradas, esperaron pensando que podría estar haciendo sus necesidades.
Y salido él, vinieron sus siervos, los cuales viendo las puertas de la sala cerradas, dijeron: Sin duda él cubre sus pies en la sala de verano.
When he was gone out, his servants came; and when they saw that, behold, the doors of the parlour were locked, they said, Surely he covereth his feet in his summer chamber.
After he had gone, his servants came and saw that the doors of the upper room were locked. They said, “Surely he is covering his feet in the upper room.”
Pero después de un tiempo, como él no salía se preocuparon y fueron en busca de la llave. Cuando abrieron la puerta, encontraron que su amo estaba muerto en el suelo.
Y habiendo esperado hasta estar confusos, pues que él no abría las puertas de la sala, tomaron la llave y abrieron: y he aquí su señor caído en tierra muerto.
And they tarried till they were ashamed: and, behold, he opened not the doors of the parlour; therefore they took a key, and opened them: and, behold, their lord was fallen down dead on the earth.

Mientras tanto Aod había llegado más allá de las canteras, hasta Seirat.

And Ehud escaped while they tarried, and passed beyond the quarries, and escaped unto Seirath.

Cuando entró en la región montañosa de Efraín, hizo sonar una trompeta llamando a las armas, y reunió a los varones israelitas bajo su mando.

He said to them, “Follow me; for the LORD has delivered your enemies the Moabites into your hand.” They followed him, and took the fords of the Jordan against the Moabites, and didn’t allow any man to pass over.
Luego atacaron a los moabitas y dieron muerte a unos diez mil de sus hombres más fuertes y hábiles en batalla. Ni uno solo escapó.
