1Después de la muerte de Aod, el pueblo de Israel volvió a pecar contra el Señor,
2por lo que el Señor los entregó en manos de Jabín, rey de Jazor en Canaán. El comandante de su ejército era Sísara, que vivía en Jaroset Goyim,
3y tenía novecientos carros de hierro. Durante veinte años hizo que la vida fuera insoportable para los israelitas. Finalmente, Israel rogó a Dios que le diera ayuda.
4El caudillo que gobernaba a Israel en aquel tiempo fue Débora, una profetisa, esposa de Lapidot.
5Ella celebraba audiencias en un lugar que ahora se conoce con el nombre de Palmera de Débora, entre Ramá y Betel, en la región montañosa de Efraín. Los israelitas acudían a ella para que decidiera sus querellas.
6Un día citó a Barac, hijo de Abinoán, que vivía en Cedes, en la tierra de Neftalí y le dijo: ―El Señor Dios de Israel te manda que movilices diez mil hombres de las tribus de Neftalí y Zabulón.
7Llévalos hasta el monte Tabor, para ofrecer batalla a Jabín y a su poderoso ejército con todos sus carros, que están al mando del general Sísara. El Señor dice: “Yo los conduciré hasta el río Quisón, y allí los derrotarás”.
8―Iré si tú vas conmigo —le dijo Barac.
9―Muy bien —contestó ella—, iré contigo, pero te advierto que el honor de vencer a Sísara será de una mujer y no tuyo. Entonces ella fue con él a Cedes.
10Cuando Barac convocó a los hombres de Zabulón y Neftalí para movilizarse hacia Cedes, se presentaron diez mil voluntarios. Y Débora fue con ellos.
11(Héber el quenita, descendiente de Hobab el suegro de Moisés, se había apartado del clan de los quenitas y había estado viviendo junto a la encina de Zanayin, cerca de Cedes).
12Cuando el general Sísara supo que Barac estaba acampado en el monte Tabor,
13marchó con todo su ejército, incluyendo novecientos carros de hierro, y marchó desde Jaroset Goyin hasta el arroyo Quisón.
14Débora le dijo a Barac: ―Ahora es el momento de entrar en acción. El Señor nos dirige, y ha entregado a Sísara en tus manos. Entonces Barac lanzó a sus diez mil hombres a la batalla por las laderas del monte Tabor.
15El Señor hizo que el pánico cundiera entre el enemigo, tanto entre los soldados como en los que conducían los carros, y Sísara saltó de su carro y escapó corriendo.
16Barac y sus hombres persiguieron a sus enemigos y a los carros hasta Jaroset Goyin, hasta que todo el ejército de Sísara fue destruido. Ni un solo hombre quedó vivo.
17Mientras tanto, Sísara había escapado a refugiarse en la tienda de Jael, esposa de Héber el quenita, porque había un pacto de ayuda mutua entre el rey Jabín de Jazor y el clan de Héber.
18Jael salió a encontrar a Sísara y le dijo: ―Entra en mi tienda, señor. Estarás a salvo bajo nuestra protección. No tengas miedo. Él entró en la tienda y ella lo cubrió con una frazada.
19―Dame un poco de agua —dijo él—, porque tengo mucha sed. Ella le dio leche y lo volvió a cubrir.
20―Ponte en la puerta de la tienda —le pidió él a ella— y si alguien viene buscándome, dile que no hay nadie aquí.
21Entonces Jael tomó una aguda estaca de tienda y un mazo, y acercándose silenciosamente a donde él dormía profundamente a causa del cansancio, le clavó la estaca en las sienes, le atravesó la cabeza y se la encajó en el suelo, y así murió.
22Cuando Barac llegó buscando a Sísara, Jael salió a encontrarlo y le dijo: «Ven y te mostraré al hombre que estás buscando». Ella lo condujo dentro de la tienda y encontró a Sísara muerto, con la estaca atravesada en las sienes.
23Ese día el Señor subyugó al rey Jabín, rey cananeo, ante Israel.
24Desde ese día en adelante Israel se fortaleció cada vez más contra el rey Jabín, hasta que él y todo su pueblo fueron destruidos.

1MAS los hijos de Israel tornaron á hacer lo malo en ojos de Jehová, después de la muerte de Aod.
2Y Jehová los vendió en mano de Jabín rey de Canaán, el cual reinó en Asor: y el capitán de su ejército se llamaba Sísara, y él habitaba en Haroseth de las Gentes.
3Y los hijos de Israel clamaron á Jehová, porque aquél tenía nuevecientos carros herrados: y había afligido en gran manera á los hijos de Israel por veinte años.
4Y gobernaba en aquel tiempo á Israel una mujer, Débora, profetisa, mujer de Lapidoth:
5La cual Débora habitaba debajo de una palma entre Rama y Beth-el, en el monte de Ephraim: y los hijos de Israel subían á ella á juicio.
6Y ella envió á llamar á Barac hijo de Abinoam, de Cedes de Nephtalí, y díjole: ¿No te ha mandado Jehová Dios de Israel, diciendo: Ve, y haz gente en el monte de Tabor, y toma contigo diez mil hombres de los hijos de Nephtalí, y de los hijos de Zabulón:
7Y yo atraeré á ti al arroyo de Cisón á Sísara, capitán del ejército de Jabín, con sus carros y su ejército, y entregarélo en tus manos?
8Y Barac le respondió: Si tú fueres conmigo, yo iré: pero si no fueres conmigo, no iré.
9Y ella dijo: Iré contigo; mas no será tu honra en el camino que vas; porque en mano de mujer venderá Jehová á Sísara. Y levantándose Débora fué con Barac á Cedes.
10Y juntó Barac á Zabulón y á Nephtalí en Cedes, y subió con diez mil hombres á su mando, y Débora subió con él.
11Y Heber Cineo, de los hijos de Hobab suegro de Moisés, se había apartado de los Cineos, y puesto su tienda hasta el valle de Zaananim, que está junto á Cedes.
12Vinieron pues las nuevas á Sísara como Barac hijo de Abinoam había subido al monte de Tabor.
13Y reunió Sísara todos sus carros, nuevecientos carros herrados, con todo el pueblo que con él estaba, desde Haroseth de las Gentes hasta el arroyo de Cisón.
14Entonces Débora dijo á Barac: Levántate; porque este es el día en que Jehová ha entregado á Sísara en tus manos. ¿No ha salido Jehová delante de ti? Y Barac descendió del monte de Tabor, y diez mil hombres en pos de él.
15Y Jehová desbarató á Sísara, y á todos sus carros y á todo su ejército, á filo de espada delante de Barac: y Sísara descendió del carro, y huyó á pie.
16Mas Barac siguió los carros y el ejército hasta Haroseth de las Gentes, y todo el ejército de Sísara cayó á filo de espada, hasta no quedar ni uno.
17Y Sísara se acogió á pie á la tienda de Jael mujer de Heber Cineo; porque había paz entre Jabín rey de Asor y la casa de Heber Cineo.
18Y saliendo Jael á recibir á Sísara, díjole: Ven, señor mío, ven á mí, no tengas temor. Y él vino á ella á la tienda, y ella le cubrió con una manta.
19Y él le dijo: Ruégote me des á beber una poca de agua, que tengo sed. Y ella abrió un odre de leche y dióle de beber, y tornóle á cubrir.
20Y él le dijo: Estáte á la puerta de la tienda, y si alguien viniere, y te preguntare, diciendo: ¿Hay aquí alguno? tú responderás que no.
21Y Jael, mujer de Heber, tomó una estaca de la tienda, y poniendo un mazo en su mano, vino á él calladamente, y metióle la estaca por las sienes, y enclavólo en la tierra, pues él estaba cargado de sueño y cansado; y así murió.
22Y siguiendo Barac á Sísara, Jael salió á recibirlo, y díjole: Ven, y te mostraré al varón que tú buscas. Y él entró donde ella estaba, y he aquí Sísara yacía muerto con la estaca por la sien.
23Así abatió Dios aquel día á Jabín, rey de Canaán, delante de los hijos de Israel.
24Y la mano de los hijos de Israel comenzó á crecer y á fortificarse contra Jabín rey de Canaán, hasta que lo destruyeron.

1And the children of Israel again did evil in the sight of the LORD, when Ehud was dead.
2And the LORD sold them into the hand of Jabin king of Canaan, that reigned in Hazor; the captain of whose host was Sisera, which dwelt in Harosheth of the Gentiles.
3And the children of Israel cried unto the LORD: for he had nine hundred chariots of iron; and twenty years he mightily oppressed the children of Israel.
4And Deborah, a prophetess, the wife of Lapidoth, she judged Israel at that time.
5And she dwelt under the palm tree of Deborah between Ramah and Beth-el in mount Ephraim: and the children of Israel came up to her for judgment.
6And she sent and called Barak the son of Abinoam out of Kedesh-naphtali, and said unto him, Hath not the LORD God of Israel commanded, saying, Go and draw toward mount Tabor, and take with thee ten thousand men of the children of Naphtali and of the children of Zebulun?
7And I will draw unto thee to the river Kishon Sisera, the captain of Jabin’s army, with his chariots and his multitude; and I will deliver him into thine hand.
8And Barak said unto her, If thou wilt go with me, then I will go: but if thou wilt not go with me, then I will not go.
9And she said, I will surely go with thee: notwithstanding the journey that thou takest shall not be for thine honour; for the LORD shall sell Sisera into the hand of a woman. And Deborah arose, and went with Barak to Kedesh.
10And Barak called Zebulun and Naphtali to Kedesh; and he went up with ten thousand men at his feet: and Deborah went up with him.
11Now Heber the Kenite, which was of the children of Hobab the father in law of Moses, had severed himself from the Kenites, and pitched his tent unto the plain of Zaanaim, which is by Kedesh.
12And they shewed Sisera that Barak the son of Abinoam was gone up to mount Tabor.
13And Sisera gathered together all his chariots, even nine hundred chariots of iron, and all the people that were with him, from Harosheth of the Gentiles unto the river of Kishon.
14And Deborah said unto Barak, Up; for this is the day in which the LORD hath delivered Sisera into thine hand: is not the LORD gone out before thee? So Barak went down from mount Tabor, and ten thousand men after him.
15And the LORD discomfited Sisera, and all his chariots, and all his host, with the edge of the sword before Barak; so that Sisera lighted down off his chariot, and fled away on his feet.
16But Barak pursued after the chariots, and after the host, unto Harosheth of the Gentiles: and all the host of Sisera fell upon the edge of the sword; and there was not a man left.
17Howbeit Sisera fled away on his feet to the tent of Jael the wife of Heber the Kenite: for there was peace between Jabin the king of Hazor and the house of Heber the Kenite.
18And Jael went out to meet Sisera, and said unto him, Turn in, my lord, turn in to me; fear not. And when he had turned in unto her into the tent, she covered him with a mantle.
19And he said unto her, Give me, I pray thee, a little water to drink; for I am thirsty. And she opened a bottle of milk, and gave him drink, and covered him.
20Again he said unto her, Stand in the door of the tent, and it shall be, when any man doth come and enquire of thee, and say, Is there any man here? that thou shalt say, No.
21Then Jael Heber’s wife took a nail of the tent, and took an hammer in her hand, and went softly unto him, and smote the nail into his temples, and fastened it into the ground: for he was fast asleep and weary. So he died.
22And, behold, as Barak pursued Sisera, Jael came out to meet him, and said unto him, Come, and I will shew thee the man whom thou seekest. And when he came into her tent, behold, Sisera lay dead, and the nail was in his temples.
23So God subdued on that day Jabin the king of Canaan before the children of Israel.
24And the hand of the children of Israel prospered, and prevailed against Jabin the king of Canaan, until they had destroyed Jabin king of Canaan.
World English Bible
1The children of Israel again did that which was evil in the LORD’s sight, when Ehud was dead.
2The LORD sold them into the hand of Jabin king of Canaan, who reigned in Hazor; the captain of whose army was Sisera, who lived in Harosheth of the Gentiles.
3The children of Israel cried to the LORD, for he had nine hundred chariots of iron; and he mightily oppressed the children of Israel for twenty years.
4Now Deborah, a prophetess, the wife of Lappidoth, judged Israel at that time.
5She lived under Deborah’s palm tree between Ramah and Bethel in the hill country of Ephraim; and the children of Israel came up to her for judgment.
6She sent and called Barak the son of Abinoam out of Kedesh Naphtali, and said to him, “Hasn’t the LORD, the God of Israel, commanded, ‘Go and lead the way to Mount Tabor, and take with you ten thousand men of the children of Naphtali and of the children of Zebulun?
7I will draw to you, to the river Kishon, Sisera, the captain of Jabin’s army, with his chariots and his multitude; and I will deliver him into your hand.’”
8Barak said to her, “If you will go with me, then I will go; but if you will not go with me, I will not go.”
9She said, “I will surely go with you. Nevertheless, the journey that you take won’t be for your honor; for the LORD will sell Sisera into a woman’s hand.” Deborah arose, and went with Barak to Kedesh.
10Barak called Zebulun and Naphtali together to Kedesh. Ten thousand men followed him; and Deborah went up with him.
11Now Heber the Kenite had separated himself from the Kenites, even from the children of Hobab, Moses’ brother-in-law, and had pitched his tent as far as the oak in Zaanannim, which is by Kedesh.
12They told Sisera that Barak the son of Abinoam had gone up to Mount Tabor.
13Sisera gathered together all his chariots, even nine hundred chariots of iron, and all the people who were with him, from Harosheth of the Gentiles, to the river Kishon.
14Deborah said to Barak, “Go; for this is the day in which the LORD has delivered Sisera into your hand. Hasn’t the LORD gone out before you?” So Barak went down from Mount Tabor, and ten thousand men after him.
15The LORD confused Sisera, all his chariots, and all his army, with the edge of the sword before Barak. Sisera abandoned his chariot and fled away on his feet.
16But Barak pursued the chariots and the army to Harosheth of the Gentiles; and all the army of Sisera fell by the edge of the sword. There was not a man left.
17However Sisera fled away on his feet to the tent of Jael the wife of Heber the Kenite; for there was peace between Jabin the king of Hazor and the house of Heber the Kenite.
18Jael went out to meet Sisera, and said to him, “Turn in, my lord, turn in to me; don’t be afraid.” He came in to her into the tent, and she covered him with a rug.
19He said to her, “Please give me a little water to drink; for I am thirsty.” She opened a container of milk, and gave him a drink, and covered him.
20He said to her, “Stand in the door of the tent, and if any man comes and inquires of you, and says, ‘Is there any man here?’ you shall say, ‘No.’”
21Then Jael, Heber’s wife, took a tent peg, and took a hammer in her hand, and went softly to him, and struck the pin into his temples, and it pierced through into the ground, for he was in a deep sleep; so he fainted and died.
22Behold, as Barak pursued Sisera, Jael came out to meet him, and said to him, “Come, and I will show you the man whom you seek.” He came to her; and behold, Sisera lay dead, and the tent peg was in his temples.
23So God subdued Jabin the king of Canaan before the children of Israel on that day.
24The hand of the children of Israel prevailed more and more against Jabin the king of Canaan, until they had destroyed Jabin king of Canaan.
