1Und die Kinder Israel taten, was böse war in den Augen Jehovas; und Jehova gab sie in die Hand Midians sieben Jahre.
2Und die Hand Midians wurde stark über Israel. Vor Midian richteten sich die Kinder Israel die Klüfte zu, die in den Bergen sind, und die Höhlen und die Bergfesten.
3Und es geschah, wenn Israel gesät hatte, so zogen Midian und Amalek und die Söhne des Ostens herauf, sie zogen herauf wider sie.
4Und sie lagerten sich wider sie und verdarben den Ertrag des Landes bis nach Gasa hin; und sie ließen keine Lebensmittel in Israel übrig, weder Kleinvieh, noch Rind, noch Esel.
5Denn sie zogen herauf mit ihren Herden und mit ihren Zelten, sie kamen wie die Heuschrecken an Menge; und ihrer und ihrer Kamele war keine Zahl; und sie kamen in das Land, um es zu verderben.
6Und Israel verarmte sehr wegen Midians; und die Kinder Israel schrieen zu Jehova.
7Und es geschah, als die Kinder Israel wegen Midians zu Jehova schrieen,
8da sandte Jehova einen Propheten zu den Kindern Israel; und er sprach zu ihnen: So spricht Jehova, der Gott Israels: Ich habe euch aus Ägypten heraufgeführt und euch herausgeführt aus dem Hause der Knechtschaft;
9und ich habe euch errettet aus der Hand der Ägypter und aus der Hand all eurer Bedrücker, und ich habe sie vor euch vertrieben und euch ihr Land gegeben.
10Und ich sprach zu euch: Ich bin Jehova, euer Gott; ihr sollt nicht die Götter der Amoriter fürchten, in deren Land ihr wohnet. Aber ihr habt meiner Stimme nicht gehorcht.
11Und der Engel Jehovas kam und setzte sich unter die Terebinthe, die zu Ophra war, welches Joas, dem Abieseriter, gehörte. Und Gideon, sein Sohn, schlug eben Weizen aus in der Kelter, um ihn vor Midian zu flüchten.
12Und der Engel Jehovas erschien ihm und sprach zu ihm: Jehova ist mit dir, du tapferer Held!
13Und Gideon sprach zu ihm: Bitte, mein Herr! Wenn Jehova mit uns ist, warum hat denn dieses alles uns betroffen? Und wo sind alle seine Wunder, die unsere Väter uns erzählt haben, indem sie sprachen: Hat Jehova uns nicht aus Ägypten heraufgeführt? Und nun hat Jehova uns verlassen und uns in die Hand Midians gegeben.
14Und Jehova wandte sich zu ihm und sprach: Gehe hin in dieser deiner Kraft und rette Israel aus der Hand Midians! Habe ich dich nicht gesandt?
15Und er sprach zu ihm: Bitte, mein Herr! Womit soll ich Israel retten? Siehe, mein Tausend ist das ärmste in Manasse, und ich bin der Jüngste im Hause meines Vaters.
16Und Jehova sprach zu ihm: Ich werde mit dir sein, und du wirst Midian schlagen wie einen Mann.
17Und er sprach zu ihm: Wenn ich denn Gnade gefunden habe in deinen Augen, so gib mir ein Zeichen, daß du es bist, der mit mir redet.
18Weiche doch nicht von hinnen, bis ich zu dir komme und meine Gabe herausbringe und dir vorsetze. Und er sprach: Ich will bleiben, bis du wiederkommst.
19Da ging Gideon hinein und bereitete ein Ziegenböcklein zu, und ungesäuerte Kuchen aus einem Epha Mehl; das Fleisch tat er in einen Korb, und die Brühe tat er in einen Topf; und er brachte es zu ihm heraus unter die Terebinthe und setzte es vor.
20Und der Engel Gottes sprach zu ihm: Nimm das Fleisch und die ungesäuerten Kuchen und lege es hin auf diesen Felsen da, und die Brühe gieße aus. Und er tat also.
21Und der Engel Jehovas streckte das Ende des Stabes aus, der in seiner Hand war, und berührte das Fleisch und die ungesäuerten Kuchen; da stieg Feuer auf aus dem Felsen und verzehrte das Fleisch und die ungesäuerten Kuchen. Und der Engel Jehovas verschwand aus seinen Augen.
22Da sah Gideon, daß es der Engel Jehovas war, und Gideon sprach: Ach Herr, Jehova! Dieweil ich den Engel Jehovas gesehen habe von Angesicht zu Angesicht!
23Und Jehova sprach zu ihm: Friede dir! Fürchte dich nicht, du wirst nicht sterben.
24Und Gideon baute daselbst Jehova einen Altar und nannte ihn: Jehova-Schalom. Bis auf diesen Tag ist er noch zu Ophra der Abieseriter.
25Und es geschah in selbiger Nacht, da sprach Jehova zu ihm: Nimm den Farren deines Vaters, und zwar den zweiten Farren von sieben Jahren; und reiße nieder den Altar des Baal, der deinem Vater gehört, und die Aschera, die bei demselben ist, haue um;
26und baue Jehova, deinem Gott, einen Altar auf dem Gipfel dieser Feste mit der Zurüstung; und nimm den zweiten Farren und opfere ein Brandopfer mit dem Holze der Aschera, die du umhauen wirst.
27Und Gideon nahm zehn Männer von seinen Knechten und tat, so wie Jehova zu ihm geredet hatte. Und es geschah, da er sich vor dem Hause seines Vaters und vor den Leuten der Stadt fürchtete, es bei Tage zu tun, so tat er es bei Nacht.
28Und als die Leute der Stadt des Morgens früh aufstanden, siehe, da war der Altar des Baal umgerissen, und die Aschera, die bei demselben war, umgehauen, und der zweite Farre war als Brandopfer auf dem erbauten Altar geopfert.
29Und sie sprachen einer zum anderen: Wer hat das getan? Und sie forschten und fragten nach, und man sagte: Gideon, der Sohn des Joas, hat das getan.
30Da sprachen die Leute der Stadt zu Joas: Gib deinen Sohn heraus, daß er sterbe, weil er den Altar des Baal umgerissen, und weil er die Aschera, die bei demselben war, umgehauen hat!
31Und Joas sprach zu allen, die bei ihm standen: Wollt ihr für den Baal rechten, oder wollt ihr ihn retten? Wer für ihn rechtet, soll getötet werden bis zum Morgen. Wenn er ein Gott ist, so rechte er für sich selbst, weil man seinen Altar umgerissen hat.
32Und man nannte ihn an selbigem Tage Jerub-Baal, indem man sprach: Der Baal rechte mit ihm, weil er seinen Altar umgerissen hat.
33Und ganz Midian und Amalek und die Söhne des Ostens versammelten sich allzumal, und sie setzten über den Jordan und lagerten sich im Tale Jisreel.
34Und der Geist Jehovas kam über Gideon; und er stieß in die Posaune, und die Abieseriter wurden zusammengerufen ihm nach.
35Und er sandte Boten durch ganz Manasse, und auch sie wurden zusammengerufen, ihm nach. Und er sandte Boten durch Aser und durch Sebulon und durch Naphtali. Und sie zogen herauf, ihnen entgegen.
36Und Gideon sprach zu Gott: Wenn du Israel durch meine Hand retten willst, so wie du geredet hast-
37siehe, ich lege ein Wollvließ auf die Tenne; wenn Tau auf dem Vließe allein sein wird und auf dem ganzen Boden Trockenheit, so werde ich erkennen, daß du Israel durch meine Hand retten wirst, so wie du geredet hast.
38Und es geschah also. Und er stand am anderen Morgen früh auf, und er drückte das Vließ aus und preßte Tau aus dem Vließe, eine Schale voll Wasser.
39Und Gideon sprach zu Gott: Dein Zorn entbrenne nicht wider mich! Und ich will nur noch diesmal reden. Laß mich es doch nur noch diesmal mit dem Vließe versuchen: Möge doch Trockenheit sein auf dem Vließe allein, und auf dem ganzen Boden sei Tau.
40Und Gott tat also in selbiger Nacht; und es war Trockenheit auf dem Vließe allein, und auf dem ganzen Boden war Tau.

1MAS los hijos de Israel hicieron lo malo en los ojos de Jehová; y Jehová los entregó en las manos de Madián por siete años.
2Y la mano de Madián prevaleció contra Israel. Y los hijos de Israel, por causa de los Madianitas, se hicieron cuevas en los montes, y cavernas, y lugares fuertes.
3Pues como los de Israel habían sembrado, subían los Madianitas, y Amalecitas, y los orientales: subían contra ellos;
4Y asentando campo contra ellos destruían los frutos de la tierra, hasta llegar á Gaza; y no dejaban qué comer en Israel, ni ovejas, ni bueyes, ni asnos.
5Porque subían ellos y sus ganados, y venían con sus tiendas en grande multitud como langosta, que no había número en ellos ni en sus camellos: así venían á la tierra para devastarla.
6Era pues Israel en gran manera empobrecido por los Madianitas; y los hijos de Israel clamaron á Jehová.
7Y cuando los hijos de Israel hubieron clamado á Jehová, á causa de los Madianitas,
8Jehová envió un varón profeta á los hijos de Israel, el cual les dijo: Así ha dicho Jehová Dios de Israel: Yo os hice salir de Egipto, y os saqué de la casa de servidumbre:
9Yo os libré de mano de los Egipcios, y de mano de todos los que os afligieron, á los cuales eché de delante de vosotros, y os dí su tierra;
10Y díjeos: Yo soy Jehová vuestro Dios; no temáis á los dioses de los Amorrheos, en cuya tierra habitáis: mas no habéis obedecido á mi voz.
11Y vino el ángel de Jehová, y sentóse debajo del alcornoque que está en Ophra, el cual era de Joas Abiezerita; y su hijo Gedeón estaba sacudiendo el trigo en el lagar, para hacerlo esconder de los Madianitas.
12Y el ángel de Jehová se le apareció, y díjole: Jehová es contigo, varón esforzado.
13Y Gedeón le respondió: Ah, Señor mío, si Jehová es con nosotros, ¿por qué nos ha sobrevenido todo esto? ¿Y dónde están todas sus maravillas, que nuestros padres nos han contado, diciendo: ¿No nos sacó Jehová de Egipto? Y ahora Jehová nos ha desamparado, y nos ha entregado en mano de los Madianitas.
14Y mirándole Jehová, díjole: Ve con esta tu fortaleza, y salvarás á Israel de la mano de los Madianitas. ¿No te envío yo?
15Entonces le respondió: Ah, Señor mío, ¿con qué tengo de salvar á Israel? He aquí que mi familia es pobre en Manasés, y yo el menor en la casa de mi padre.
16Y Jehová le dijo: Porque yo seré contigo, y herirás á los Madianitas como á un solo hombre.
17Y él respondió: Yo te ruego, que si he hallado gracia delante de ti, me des señal de que tú has hablado conmigo.
18Ruégote que no te vayas de aquí, hasta que á ti vuelva, y saque mi presente, y lo ponga delante de ti. Y él respondió: Yo esperaré hasta que vuelvas.
19Y entrándose Gedeón aderezó un cabrito, y panes sin levadura de un epha de harina; y puso la carne en un canastillo, y el caldo en una olla, y sacándolo presentóselo debajo de aquel alcornoque.
20Y el ángel de Dios le dijo: Toma la carne, y los panes sin levadura, y ponlo sobre esta peña, y vierte el caldo. Y él lo hizo así.
21Y extendiendo el ángel de Jehová el bordón que tenía en su mano, tocó con la punta en la carne y en los panes sin levadura; y subió fuego de la peña, el cual consumió la carne y los panes sin levadura. Y el ángel de Jehová desapareció de delante de él.
22Y viendo Gedeón que era el ángel de Jehová, dijo: Ah, Señor Jehová, que he visto el ángel de Jehová cara á cara.
23Y Jehová le dijo: Paz á ti; no tengas temor, no morirás.
24Y edificó allí Gedeón altar á Jehová, al que llamó Jehová-salom: está hasta hoy en Ophra de los Abiezeritas.
25Y aconteció que la misma noche le dijo Jehová: Toma un toro del hato de tu padre, y otro toro de siete años, y derriba el altar de Baal que tu padre tiene, y corta también el bosque que está junto á él:
26Y edifica altar á Jehová tu Dios en la cumbre de este peñasco en lugar conveniente; y tomando el segundo toro, sacrifícalo en holocausto sobre la leña del bosque que habrás cortado.
27Entonces Gedeón tomó diez hombres de sus siervos, é hizo como Jehová le dijo. Mas temiendo hacerlo de día, por la familia de su padre y por los hombres de la ciudad, hízolo de noche.
28Y á la mañana, cuando los de la ciudad se levantaron, he aquí que el altar de Baal estaba derribado, y cortado el bosque que junto á él estaba, y sacrificado aquel segundo toro en holocausto sobre el altar edificado.
29Y decíanse unos á otros: ¿Quién ha hecho esto? Y buscando é inquiriendo, dijéronles: Gedeón hijo de Joas lo ha hecho. Entonces los hombres de la ciudad dijeron á Joas:
30Saca fuera tu hijo para que muera, por cuanto ha derribado el altar de Baal y ha cortado el bosque que junto á él estaba.
31Y Joas respondió á todos los que estaban junto á él: ¿Tomaréis vosotros la demanda por Baal? ¿le salvaréis vosotros? Cualquiera que tomare la demanda por él, que muera mañana. Si es Dios, contienda por sí mismo con el que derribó su altar.
32Y aquel día llamó él á Gedeón Jerobaal; porque dijo: Pleitee Baal contra el que derribó su altar.
33Y todos los Madianitas, y Amalecitas, y orientales, se juntaron á una, y pasando asentaron campo en el valle de Jezreel.
34Y el espíritu de Jehová se envistió en Gedeón, y como éste hubo tocado el cuerno, Abiezer se juntó con él.
35Y envió mensajeros por todo Manasés, el cual también se juntó con él: asimismo envió mensajeros á Aser, y á Zabulón, y á Nephtalí, los cuales salieron á encontrarles.
36Y Gedeón dijo á Dios: Si has de salvar á Israel por mi mano, como has dicho,
37He aquí que yo pondré un vellón de lana en la era; y si el rocío estuviere en el vellón solamente, quedando seca toda la otra tierra, entonces entenderé que has de salvar á Israel por mi mano, como lo has dicho.
38Y aconteció así: porque como se levantó de mañana, exprimiendo el vellón sacó de él el rocío, un vaso lleno de agua.
39Mas Gedeón dijo á Dios: No se encienda tu ira contra mí, si aun hablare esta vez: solamente probaré ahora otra vez con el vellón. Ruégote que la sequedad sea sólo en el vellón, y el rocío sobre la tierra.
40Y aquella noche lo hizo Dios así: porque la sequedad fué sólo en el vellón, y en toda la tierra estuvo el rocío.

1And the children of Israel did evil in the sight of the LORD: and the LORD delivered them into the hand of Midian seven years.
2And the hand of Midian prevailed against Israel: and because of the Midianites the children of Israel made them the dens which are in the mountains, and caves, and strong holds.
3And so it was, when Israel had sown, that the Midianites came up, and the Amalekites, and the children of the east, even they came up against them;
4And they encamped against them, and destroyed the increase of the earth, till thou come unto Gaza, and left no sustenance for Israel, neither sheep, nor ox, nor ass.
5For they came up with their cattle and their tents, and they came as grasshoppers for multitude; for both they and their camels were without number: and they entered into the land to destroy it.
6And Israel was greatly impoverished because of the Midianites; and the children of Israel cried unto the LORD.
7And it came to pass, when the children of Israel cried unto the LORD because of the Midianites,
8That the LORD sent a prophet unto the children of Israel, which said unto them, Thus saith the LORD God of Israel, I brought you up from Egypt, and brought you forth out of the house of bondage;
9And I delivered you out of the hand of the Egyptians, and out of the hand of all that oppressed you, and drave them out from before you, and gave you their land;
10And I said unto you, I am the LORD your God; fear not the gods of the Amorites, in whose land ye dwell: but ye have not obeyed my voice.
11And there came an angel of the LORD, and sat under an oak which was in Ophrah, that pertained unto Joash the Abi-ezrite: and his son Gideon threshed wheat by the winepress, to hide it from the Midianites.
12And the angel of the LORD appeared unto him, and said unto him, The LORD is with thee, thou mighty man of valour.
13And Gideon said unto him, Oh my Lord, if the LORD be with us, why then is all this befallen us? and where be all his miracles which our fathers told us of, saying, Did not the LORD bring us up from Egypt? but now the LORD hath forsaken us, and delivered us into the hands of the Midianites.
14And the LORD looked upon him, and said, Go in this thy might, and thou shalt save Israel from the hand of the Midianites: have not I sent thee?
15And he said unto him, Oh my Lord, wherewith shall I save Israel? behold, my family is poor in Manasseh, and I am the least in my father’s house.
16And the LORD said unto him, Surely I will be with thee, and thou shalt smite the Midianites as one man.
17And he said unto him, If now I have found grace in thy sight, then shew me a sign that thou talkest with me.
18Depart not hence, I pray thee, until I come unto thee, and bring forth my present, and set it before thee. And he said, I will tarry until thou come again.
19And Gideon went in, and made ready a kid, and unleavened cakes of an ephah of flour: the flesh he put in a basket, and he put the broth in a pot, and brought it out unto him under the oak, and presented it.
20And the angel of God said unto him, Take the flesh and the unleavened cakes, and lay them upon this rock, and pour out the broth. And he did so.
21Then the angel of the LORD put forth the end of the staff that was in his hand, and touched the flesh and the unleavened cakes; and there rose up fire out of the rock, and consumed the flesh and the unleavened cakes. Then the angel of the LORD departed out of his sight.
22And when Gideon perceived that he was an angel of the LORD, Gideon said, Alas, O Lord GOD! for because I have seen an angel of the LORD face to face.
23And the LORD said unto him, Peace be unto thee; fear not: thou shalt not die.
24Then Gideon built an altar there unto the LORD, and called it Jehovah-shalom: unto this day it is yet in Ophrah of the Abi-ezrites.
25And it came to pass the same night, that the LORD said unto him, Take thy father’s young bullock, even the second bullock of seven years old, and throw down the altar of Baal that thy father hath, and cut down the grove that is by it:
26And build an altar unto the LORD thy God upon the top of this rock, in the ordered place, and take the second bullock, and offer a burnt sacrifice with the wood of the grove which thou shalt cut down.
27Then Gideon took ten men of his servants, and did as the LORD had said unto him: and so it was, because he feared his father’s household, and the men of the city, that he could not do it by day, that he did it by night.
28And when the men of the city arose early in the morning, behold, the altar of Baal was cast down, and the grove was cut down that was by it, and the second bullock was offered upon the altar that was built.
29And they said one to another, Who hath done this thing? And when they enquired and asked, they said, Gideon the son of Joash hath done this thing.
30Then the men of the city said unto Joash, Bring out thy son, that he may die: because he hath cast down the altar of Baal, and because he hath cut down the grove that was by it.
31And Joash said unto all that stood against him, Will ye plead for Baal? will ye save him? he that will plead for him, let him be put to death whilst it is yet morning: if he be a god, let him plead for himself, because one hath cast down his altar.
32Therefore on that day he called him Jerubbaal, saying, Let Baal plead against him, because he hath thrown down his altar.
33Then all the Midianites and the Amalekites and the children of the east were gathered together, and went over, and pitched in the valley of Jezreel.
34But the Spirit of the LORD came upon Gideon, and he blew a trumpet; and Abi-ezer was gathered after him.
35And he sent messengers throughout all Manasseh; who also was gathered after him: and he sent messengers unto Asher, and unto Zebulun, and unto Naphtali; and they came up to meet them.
36And Gideon said unto God, If thou wilt save Israel by mine hand, as thou hast said,
37Behold, I will put a fleece of wool in the floor; and if the dew be on the fleece only, and it be dry upon all the earth beside, then shall I know that thou wilt save Israel by mine hand, as thou hast said.
38And it was so: for he rose up early on the morrow, and thrust the fleece together, and wringed the dew out of the fleece, a bowl full of water.
39And Gideon said unto God, Let not thine anger be hot against me, and I will speak but this once: let me prove, I pray thee, but this once with the fleece; let it now be dry only upon the fleece, and upon all the ground let there be dew.
40And God did so that night: for it was dry upon the fleece only, and there was dew on all the ground.

1The children of Israel did that which was evil in the LORD’s sight, so the LORD delivered them into the hand of Midian seven years.
2The hand of Midian prevailed against Israel; and because of Midian the children of Israel made themselves the dens which are in the mountains, the caves, and the strongholds.
3So it was, when Israel had sown, that the Midianites, the Amalekites, and the children of the east came up against them.
4They encamped against them, and destroyed the increase of the earth, until you come to Gaza. They left no sustenance in Israel, and no sheep, ox, or donkey.
5For they came up with their livestock and their tents. They came in as locusts for multitude. Both they and their camels were without number; and they came into the land to destroy it.
6Israel was brought very low because of Midian; and the children of Israel cried to the LORD.
7When the children of Israel cried to the LORD because of Midian,
8The LORD sent a prophet to the children of Israel; and he said to them, “The LORD, the God of Israel, says, ‘I brought you up from Egypt, and brought you out of the house of bondage.
9I delivered you out of the hand of the Egyptians and out of the hand of all who oppressed you, and drove them out from before you, and gave you their land.
10I said to you, “I am the LORD your God. You shall not fear the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you dwell.” But you have not listened to my voice.’”
11The LORD’s angel came and sat under the oak which was in Ophrah, that belonged to Joash the Abiezrite. His son Gideon was beating out wheat in the wine press, to hide it from the Midianites.
12The LORD’s angel appeared to him, and said to him, “The LORD is with you, you mighty man of valor!”
13Gideon said to him, “Oh, my lord, if the LORD is with us, why then has all this happened to us? Where are all his wondrous works which our fathers told us of, saying, ‘Didn’t the LORD bring us up from Egypt?’ But now the LORD has cast us off, and delivered us into the hand of Midian.”
14The LORD looked at him, and said, “Go in this your might, and save Israel from the hand of Midian. Haven’t I sent you?”
15He said to him, “O Lord, how shall I save Israel? Behold, my family is the poorest in Manasseh, and I am the least in my father’s house.”
16The LORD said to him, “Surely I will be with you, and you shall strike the Midianites as one man.”
17He said to him, “If now I have found favor in your sight, then show me a sign that it is you who talk with me.
18Please don’t go away until I come to you, and bring out my present, and lay it before you.” He said, “I will wait until you come back.”
19Gideon went in and prepared a young goat and unleavened cakes of an ephah of meal. He put the meat in a basket and he put the broth in a pot, and brought it out to him under the oak, and presented it.
20The angel of God said to him, “Take the meat and the unleavened cakes, and lay them on this rock, and pour out the broth.” He did so.
21Then the LORD’s angel stretched out the end of the staff that was in his hand, and touched the meat and the unleavened cakes; and fire went up out of the rock and consumed the meat and the unleavened cakes. Then the LORD’s angel departed out of his sight.
22Gideon saw that he was the LORD’s angel; and Gideon said, “Alas, Lord GOD! Because I have seen the LORD’s angel face to face!”
23The LORD said to him, “Peace be to you! Don’t be afraid. You shall not die.”
24Then Gideon built an altar there to the LORD, and called it “The LORD is Peace.” To this day it is still in Ophrah of the Abiezrites.
25That same night, the LORD said to him, “Take your father’s bull, even the second bull seven years old, and throw down the altar of Baal that your father has, and cut down the Asherah that is by it.
26Then build an altar to the LORD your God on the top of this stronghold, in an orderly way, and take the second bull, and offer a burnt offering with the wood of the Asherah which you shall cut down.”
27Then Gideon took ten men of his servants, and did as the LORD had spoken to him. Because he feared his father’s household and the men of the city, he could not do it by day, but he did it by night.
28When the men of the city arose early in the morning, behold, the altar of Baal was broken down, and the Asherah was cut down that was by it, and the second bull was offered on the altar that was built.
29They said to one another, “Who has done this thing?” When they inquired and asked, they said, “Gideon the son of Joash has done this thing.”
30Then the men of the city said to Joash, “Bring out your son, that he may die, because he has broken down the altar of Baal, and because he has cut down the Asherah that was by it.”
31Joash said to all who stood against him, “Will you contend for Baal? Or will you save him? He who will contend for him, let him be put to death by morning! If he is a god, let him contend for himself, because someone has broken down his altar!”
32Therefore on that day he named him Jerub-Baal, saying, “Let Baal contend against him, because he has broken down his altar.”
33Then all the Midianites and the Amalekites and the children of the east assembled themselves together; and they passed over, and encamped in the valley of Jezreel.
34But the LORD’s Spirit came on Gideon, and he blew a trumpet; and Abiezer was gathered together to follow him.
35He sent messengers throughout all Manasseh, and they also were gathered together to follow him. He sent messengers to Asher, to Zebulun, and to Naphtali; and they came up to meet them.
36Gideon said to God, “If you will save Israel by my hand, as you have spoken,
37behold, I will put a fleece of wool on the threshing floor. If there is dew on the fleece only, and it is dry on all the ground, then I’ll know that you will save Israel by my hand, as you have spoken.”
38It was so; for he rose up early on the next day, and pressed the fleece together, and wrung the dew out of the fleece, a bowl full of water.
39Gideon said to God, “Don’t let your anger be kindled against me, and I will speak but this once. Please let me make a trial just this once with the fleece. Let it now be dry only on the fleece, and on all the ground let there be dew.”
40God did so that night; for it was dry on the fleece only, and there was dew on all the ground.
