Pero, muerto Barac, pecaron nuevamente los hijos de Israel en la presencia del Señor, el cual los entregó en manos de los madianitas por siete años:
MAS los hijos de Israel hicieron lo malo en los ojos de Jehová; y Jehová los entregó en las manos de Madián por siete años.

Pues cuando los israelitas habían hecho la sementera se presentaban los madianitas, los amalecitas y los otros pueblos orientales,

Con lo que los israelitas fueron en extremo humillados bajo la dominación de los madianitas.
Era pues Israel en gran manera empobrecido por los Madianitas; y los hijos de Israel clamaron á Jehová.

That the LORD sent a prophet unto the children of Israel, which said unto them, Thus saith the LORD God of Israel, I brought you up from Egypt, and brought you forth out of the house of bondage;

y os libré de las manos de los egipcios, y de todos los enemigos que os maltrataban, y a vuestra entrada los eché de su tierra, y os la entregué a vosotros.

Después de estas reconvenciones vino el ángel del Señor, y se sentó debajo de una encina que había en Efra, y era pertenencia de Joás, cabeza de la familia de Ezri. Y como Gedeón, su hijo, estuviese sacudiendo y limpiando el grano en un lagar para esconderlo de los madianitas,
Y vino el ángel de Jehová, y sentóse debajo del alcornoque que está en Ophra, el cual era de Joas Abiezerita; y su hijo Gedeón estaba sacudiendo el trigo en el lagar, para hacerlo esconder de los Madianitas.
And there came an angel of the LORD, and sat under an oak which was in Ophrah, that pertained unto Joash the Abi-ezrite: and his son Gideon threshed wheat by the winepress, to hide it from the Midianites.
The LORD’s angel came and sat under the oak which was in Ophrah, that belonged to Joash the Abiezrite. His son Gideon was beating out wheat in the wine press, to hide it from the Midianites.
se le apareció el ángel del Señor, y le dijo: El Señor es contigo, oh tú el más valeroso de los hombres.
Y el ángel de Jehová se le apareció, y díjole: Jehová es contigo, varón esforzado.
And the angel of the LORD appeared unto him, and said unto him, The LORD is with thee, thou mighty man of valour.

A lo que respondió Gedeón: Te suplico, Señor mío, me digas: Si el Señor está con nosotros, ¿cómo es que nos han sobrevenido todos estos males? ¿Dónde están aquellas maravillas suyas que nos han contado nuestros padres, refiriéndonos cómo el Señor los sacó de Egipto? Lo cierto es que ahora el Señor nos ha desamparado y entregado en manos de Madián.
Y Gedeón le respondió: Ah, Señor mío, si Jehová es con nosotros, ¿por qué nos ha sobrevenido todo esto? ¿Y dónde están todas sus maravillas, que nuestros padres nos han contado, diciendo: ¿No nos sacó Jehová de Egipto? Y ahora Jehová nos ha desamparado, y nos ha entregado en mano de los Madianitas.
And Gideon said unto him, Oh my Lord, if the LORD be with us, why then is all this befallen us? and where be all his miracles which our fathers told us of, saying, Did not the LORD bring us up from Egypt? but now the LORD hath forsaken us, and delivered us into the hands of the Midianites.
Gideon said to him, “Oh, my lord, if the LORD is with us, why then has all this happened to us? Where are all his wondrous works which our fathers told us of, saying, ‘Didn’t the LORD bring us up from Egypt?’ But now the LORD has cast us off, and delivered us into the hand of Midian.”
Entonces el ángel que representaba al Señor echó una mirada sobre él, y le dijo: Anda, ve con ese tu valor y libertarás a Israel del poder de Madián: sábete que soy yo el que te envío.
Y mirándole Jehová, díjole: Ve con esta tu fortaleza, y salvarás á Israel de la mano de los Madianitas. ¿No te envío yo?
And the LORD looked upon him, and said, Go in this thy might, and thou shalt save Israel from the hand of the Midianites: have not I sent thee?
The LORD looked at him, and said, “Go in this your might, and save Israel from the hand of Midian. Haven’t I sent you?”
Respondió Gedeón y dijo: ¡Ah, Señor mío!, te ruego que me digas ¿cómo he de poder yo libertar a Israel? Tú ves que mi familia es la ínfima en la tribu de Manasés, y yo el menor en la casa de mi padre.
Entonces le respondió: Ah, Señor mío, ¿con qué tengo de salvar á Israel? He aquí que mi familia es pobre en Manasés, y yo el menor en la casa de mi padre.
And he said unto him, Oh my Lord, wherewith shall I save Israel? behold, my family is poor in Manasseh, and I am the least in my father’s house.
He said to him, “O Lord, how shall I save Israel? Behold, my family is the poorest in Manasseh, and I am the least in my father’s house.”
Le dijo el ángel del Señor: Yo seré contigo, y derrotarás a Madián, como si fuera un solo hombre.
Y Jehová le dijo: Porque yo seré contigo, y herirás á los Madianitas como á un solo hombre.
And the LORD said unto him, Surely I will be with thee, and thou shalt smite the Midianites as one man.
The LORD said to him, “Surely I will be with you, and you shall strike the Midianites as one man.”
Replicó él: Si es que yo he hallado gracia delante de ti, dame una señal de que eres tú quien me hablas,
Y él respondió: Yo te ruego, que si he hallado gracia delante de ti, me des señal de que tú has hablado conmigo.
And he said unto him, If now I have found grace in thy sight, then shew me a sign that thou talkest with me.
He said to him, “If now I have found favor in your sight, then show me a sign that it is you who talk with me.
ni te retires de este sitio, hasta que yo vuelva a ti y te traiga un presente como para un sacrificio, y te lo ofrezca. Respondió el ángel: Aguardaré hasta que vuelvas.
Ruégote que no te vayas de aquí, hasta que á ti vuelva, y saque mi presente, y lo ponga delante de ti. Y él respondió: Yo esperaré hasta que vuelvas.
Depart not hence, I pray thee, until I come unto thee, and bring forth my present, and set it before thee. And he said, I will tarry until thou come again.
Please don’t go away until I come to you, and bring out my present, and lay it before you.” He said, “I will wait until you come back.”
Con esto Gedeón fue a su casa, y cosió un cabrito, y panes ázimos, que hizo de una medida de harina; y poniendo la carne en un canasto; y echando en una olla el caldo de la carne, lo llevo todo debajo de la encina, y se lo presentó.
Y entrándose Gedeón aderezó un cabrito, y panes sin levadura de un epha de harina; y puso la carne en un canastillo, y el caldo en una olla, y sacándolo presentóselo debajo de aquel alcornoque.
And Gideon went in, and made ready a kid, and unleavened cakes of an ephah of flour: the flesh he put in a basket, and he put the broth in a pot, and brought it out unto him under the oak, and presented it.
Gideon went in and prepared a young goat and unleavened cakes of an ephah of meal. He put the meat in a basket and he put the broth in a pot, and brought it out to him under the oak, and presented it.
Le dijo el ángel del Señor: Toma la carne y los panes ázimos, y ponlo sobre aquella peña, y derrama encima el caldo. Y habiéndolo echo así,
Y el ángel de Dios le dijo: Toma la carne, y los panes sin levadura, y ponlo sobre esta peña, y vierte el caldo. Y él lo hizo así.
And the angel of God said unto him, Take the flesh and the unleavened cakes, and lay them upon this rock, and pour out the broth. And he did so.
The angel of God said to him, “Take the meat and the unleavened cakes, and lay them on this rock, and pour out the broth.” He did so.
extendió el ángel del Señor la punta del báculo que tenía en la mano, y tocó la carne y los panes ázimos; y salió fuego de la piedra, y consumió la carne y los panes ázimos, y el ángel del Señor desapareció de sus ojos.
Y extendiendo el ángel de Jehová el bordón que tenía en su mano, tocó con la punta en la carne y en los panes sin levadura; y subió fuego de la peña, el cual consumió la carne y los panes sin levadura. Y el ángel de Jehová desapareció de delante de él.
Then the angel of the LORD put forth the end of the staff that was in his hand, and touched the flesh and the unleavened cakes; and there rose up fire out of the rock, and consumed the flesh and the unleavened cakes. Then the angel of the LORD departed out of his sight.
Then the LORD’s angel stretched out the end of the staff that was in his hand, and touched the meat and the unleavened cakes; and fire went up out of the rock and consumed the meat and the unleavened cakes. Then the LORD’s angel departed out of his sight.
Viendo Gedeón que era un ángel del Señor, dijo: ¡Ay de mí, Señor Dios mío, que he visto al ángel del Señor cara a cara!
Y viendo Gedeón que era el ángel de Jehová, dijo: Ah, Señor Jehová, que he visto el ángel de Jehová cara á cara.
And when Gideon perceived that he was an angel of the LORD, Gideon said, Alas, O Lord GOD! for because I have seen an angel of the LORD face to face.
Gideon saw that he was the LORD’s angel; and Gideon said, “Alas, Lord GOD! Because I have seen the LORD’s angel face to face!”
Le respondió el Señor: La paz sea contigo: no temas, que no morirás.
Y Jehová le dijo: Paz á ti; no tengas temor, no morirás.
And the LORD said unto him, Peace be unto thee; fear not: thou shalt not die.
The LORD said to him, “Peace be to you! Don’t be afraid. You shall not die.”
Edificó, pues, allí Gedeón un altar al Señor, y le llamó Paz del Señor: nombre que dura hasta hoy día. Y estando él todavía en Efra, que pertenece a la familia de Ezri,
Y edificó allí Gedeón altar á Jehová, al que llamó Jehová-salom: está hasta hoy en Ophra de los Abiezeritas.
Then Gideon built an altar there unto the LORD, and called it Jehovah-shalom: unto this day it is yet in Ophrah of the Abi-ezrites.
Then Gideon built an altar there to the LORD, and called it “The LORD is Peace.” To this day it is still in Ophrah of the Abiezrites.
le díjo el Señor aquella noche: Toma un toro de tu padre y otro de siete años; y destruye el altar de Baal, que es de tu padre: y corta el bosquete que está junto al altar:
Y aconteció que la misma noche le dijo Jehová: Toma un toro del hato de tu padre, y otro toro de siete años, y derriba el altar de Baal que tu padre tiene, y corta también el bosque que está junto á él:
And it came to pass the same night, that the LORD said unto him, Take thy father’s young bullock, even the second bullock of seven years old, and throw down the altar of Baal that thy father hath, and cut down the grove that is by it:
That same night, the LORD said to him, “Take your father’s bull, even the second bull seven years old, and throw down the altar of Baal that your father has, and cut down the Asherah that is by it.
y erigirás un altar al Señor Dios tuyo encima de esa peña sobre que pusistes antes el sacrificio; y tomando el segundo toro le ofrecerás en holocausto sobre el montón de leña que habrás cortado en el bosquete.
Y edifica altar á Jehová tu Dios en la cumbre de este peñasco en lugar conveniente; y tomando el segundo toro, sacrifícalo en holocausto sobre la leña del bosque que habrás cortado.
And build an altar unto the LORD thy God upon the top of this rock, in the ordered place, and take the second bullock, and offer a burnt sacrifice with the wood of the grove which thou shalt cut down.
Then build an altar to the LORD your God on the top of this stronghold, in an orderly way, and take the second bull, and offer a burnt offering with the wood of the Asherah which you shall cut down.”
Gedeón, pues, habiendo tomado consigo diez de sus criados, hizo lo que el Señor le había mandado: si bien teniendo a la familia de su padre y a los vecinos de aquella ciudad, no lo quiso hacer de día, sino que todo lo ejecutó de noche.
Entonces Gedeón tomó diez hombres de sus siervos, é hizo como Jehová le dijo. Mas temiendo hacerlo de día, por la familia de su padre y por los hombres de la ciudad, hízolo de noche.
Then Gideon took ten men of his servants, and did as the LORD had said unto him: and so it was, because he feared his father’s household, and the men of the city, that he could not do it by day, that he did it by night.

A la mañana, levantándose, los vecinos del pueblo, vieron destruido el altar de Baal, y cortado el bosquete, y colocado el segundo toro sobre un altar recientemente erigido.
Y á la mañana, cuando los de la ciudad se levantaron, he aquí que el altar de Baal estaba derribado, y cortado el bosque que junto á él estaba, y sacrificado aquel segundo toro en holocausto sobre el altar edificado.
And when the men of the city arose early in the morning, behold, the altar of Baal was cast down, and the grove was cut down that was by it, and the second bullock was offered upon the altar that was built.

Y se dijeron unos a otros: ¿Quién ha hecho esto? Y haciendo pesquisa del autor de ello, se les dijo: Gedeón, hijo de Joás, ha hecho todas estas cosas.
Y decíanse unos á otros: ¿Quién ha hecho esto? Y buscando é inquiriendo, dijéronles: Gedeón hijo de Joas lo ha hecho. Entonces los hombres de la ciudad dijeron á Joas:
And they said one to another, Who hath done this thing? And when they enquired and asked, they said, Gideon the son of Joash hath done this thing.
They said to one another, “Who has done this thing?” When they inquired and asked, they said, “Gideon the son of Joash has done this thing.”
Por lo que dijeron a Joás: Sácanos aquí tu hijo para que muera, pues ha destruido el altar de Baal, y cortado el bosquete.
Saca fuera tu hijo para que muera, por cuanto ha derribado el altar de Baal y ha cortado el bosque que junto á él estaba.
Then the men of the city said unto Joash, Bring out thy son, that he may die: because he hath cast down the altar of Baal, and because he hath cut down the grove that was by it.
Then the men of the city said to Joash, “Bring out your son, that he may die, because he has broken down the altar of Baal, and because he has cut down the Asherah that was by it.”
Les respondió Joás: pues qué ¿sois vosotros los vengadores de Baal para combatir por él? Haga Baal que quien es su adversario, muera antes que amanezca el día de mañana: si Baal es Dios, vénguese él mismo del que ha derribado su altar.
Y Joas respondió á todos los que estaban junto á él: ¿Tomaréis vosotros la demanda por Baal? ¿le salvaréis vosotros? Cualquiera que tomare la demanda por él, que muera mañana. Si es Dios, contienda por sí mismo con el que derribó su altar.
And Joash said unto all that stood against him, Will ye plead for Baal? will ye save him? he that will plead for him, let him be put to death whilst it is yet morning: if he be a god, let him plead for himself, because one hath cast down his altar.
Joash said to all who stood against him, “Will you contend for Baal? Or will you save him? He who will contend for him, let him be put to death by morning! If he is a god, let him contend for himself, because someone has broken down his altar!”
Desde aquel día Gedeón fue llamado Jerobaal, por haber dicho Joás: Vénguese Baal del que le derribó su altar.
Y aquel día llamó él á Gedeón Jerobaal; porque dijo: Pleitee Baal contra el que derribó su altar.
Therefore on that day he called him Jerubbaal, saying, Let Baal plead against him, because he hath thrown down his altar.

Entretanto todos los de Madián y de Amalec, y los pueblos orientales se juntaron a una, y pasando el Jordán, acamparon en el valle de Jezrael para robar y talar.

Then all the Midianites and the Amalekites and the children of the east were gathered together, and went over, and pitched in the valley of Jezreel.

Mas el espíritu del Señor se apoderó de Gedeón, el cual tocando la trompeta convocó a la familia de Abiezer para que le siguiese.
Y el espíritu de Jehová se envistió en Gedeón, y como éste hubo tocado el cuerno, Abiezer se juntó con él.
But the Spirit of the LORD came upon Gideon, and he blew a trumpet; and Abi-ezer was gathered after him.

Envió asimismo mensajeros a toda la tribu de Manasés, que también le siguió; e igualmente a las otras de Aser, y de Zabulón, y de Neftalí, que asimismo salieron a juntarse con él.

And Gideon said unto God, If thou wilt save Israel by mine hand, as thou hast said,
Gideon said to God, “If you will save Israel by my hand, as you have spoken,
he aquí que yo extenderé este vellocino de lana en la era: si el rocío solamente cayere en el vellocino, quedando todo el terreno enjuto, reconoceré en esto que por mi mano has de libertar a Israel, según tiene dicho.
He aquí que yo pondré un vellón de lana en la era; y si el rocío estuviere en el vellón solamente, quedando seca toda la otra tierra, entonces entenderé que has de salvar á Israel por mi mano, como lo has dicho.
Behold, I will put a fleece of wool in the floor; and if the dew be on the fleece only, and it be dry upon all the earth beside, then shall I know that thou wilt save Israel by mine hand, as thou hast said.

Se hizo así, y levantándose antes del amanecer, exprimió el vellocino, y llenó una taza de rocío que salió de él.
Y aconteció así: porque como se levantó de mañana, exprimiendo el vellón sacó de él el rocío, un vaso lleno de agua.
And it was so: for he rose up early on the morrow, and thrust the fleece together, and wringed the dew out of the fleece, a bowl full of water.

Dijo de nuevo a Dios: No se irrite contra mí tu furor, si aún hago una prueba más buscando otra señal por medio del vellocino. Suplícote ahora lo contrario, que sólo el vellocino esté seco, y se vea mojada del rocío toda la tierra;
Mas Gedeón dijo á Dios: No se encienda tu ira contra mí, si aun hablare esta vez: solamente probaré ahora otra vez con el vellón. Ruégote que la sequedad sea sólo en el vellón, y el rocío sobre la tierra.
And Gideon said unto God, Let not thine anger be hot against me, and I will speak but this once: let me prove, I pray thee, but this once with the fleece; let it now be dry only upon the fleece, and upon all the ground let there be dew.
Gideon said to God, “Don’t let your anger be kindled against me, and I will speak but this once. Please let me make a trial just this once with the fleece. Let it now be dry only on the fleece, and on all the ground let there be dew.”
y Dios lo hizo aquella noche como se lo había pedido; y sólo el vellocino quedó enjuto, y todo el terreno se halló cubierto de rocío.
