Entonces le dijeron los efraimitas: ¿Qué es esto que has hecho con nosotros de no llamarnos cuando saliste a combatir a Madián? Y se querellaron agriamente, faltando poco para llegar a atropellarle.

Y LOS de Ephraim le dijeron: ¿Qué es esto que has hecho con nosotros, no llamándonos cuando ibas á la guerra contra Madián? Y reconviniéronlo fuertemente.

And the men of Ephraim said unto him, Why hast thou served us thus, that thou calledst us not, when thou wentest to fight with the Midianites? And they did chide with him sharply.

The men of Ephraim said to him, “Why have you treated us this way, that you didn’t call us when you went to fight with Midian?” They rebuked him sharply.

Les respondió Gedeón: Pues, ¿qué hazaña podía yo hacer que igualara a la que vosotros habéis hecho? ¿Por ventura no vale más un racimo de Efraín que todas las vendimias de Abiezer?

A los cuales él respondió: ¿Qué he hecho yo ahora como vosotros? ¿No es el rebusco de Ephraim mejor que la vendimia de Abiezer?

And he said unto them, What have I done now in comparison of you? Is not the gleaning of the grapes of Ephraim better than the vintage of Abi-ezer?

He said to them, “What have I now done in comparison with you? Isn’t the gleaning of the grapes of Ephraim better than the vintage of Abiezer?

El Señor puso en vuestras manos los príncipes de Madián, Oreb y Zeb: ¿qué cosa pude yo hacer igual a la que vosotros habéis hecho? Con esta respuesta calmó la cólera en que ardían contra él.

Dios ha entregado en vuestras manos á Oreb y á Zeeb, príncipes de Madián: ¿y qué pude yo hacer como vosotros? Entonces el enojo de ellos contra él se aplacó, luego que él habló esta palabra.

God hath delivered into your hands the princes of Midian, Oreb and Zeeb: and what was I able to do in comparison of you? Then their anger was abated toward him, when he had said that.

Cuando Gedeón, después de la derrota de Madián, llegó al Jordán, lo vadeó con los trescientos hombres que tenía consigo; los cuales por el cansancio no podían perseguir a los fugitivos.

Y vino Gedeón al Jordán para pasar, él y los trescientos hombres que traía consigo, cansados del alcance.

Por lo que dijo a los vecinos de Soccot: Dadme, os ruego, pan para la tropa que viene conmigo, pues está muy desfallecida, a fin de que podamos perseguir a Zebee y a Salmana, reyes de Madián.

Y dijo á los de Succoth: Yo os ruego que deis á la gente que me sigue algunos bocados de pan; porque están cansados, y yo persigo á Zeba y á Zalmunna, reyes de Madián.

And he said unto the men of Succoth, Give, I pray you, loaves of bread unto the people that follow me; for they be faint, and I am pursuing after Zebah and Zalmunna, kings of Midian.

He said to the men of Succoth, “Please give loaves of bread to the people who follow me; for they are faint, and I am pursuing after Zebah and Zalmunna, the kings of Midian.”

Respondieron los príncipes de Soccot: Pues qué, ¿tienes en tu poder maniatados a Zebee y a Salmana, para pedirnos que demos pan a este su ejército?

Y los principales de Succoth respondieron: ¿Está ya la mano de Zeba y Zalmunna en tu mano, para que hayamos nosotros de dar pan á tu ejército?

And the princes of Succoth said, Are the hands of Zebah and Zalmunna now in thine hand, that we should give bread unto thine army?

The princes of Succoth said, “Are the hands of Zebah and Zalmunna now in your hand, that we should give bread to your army?”

Les replicó él:Cuando el Señor habrá entregado en mis manos a Zebee y a Salmana, yo destrozaré vuestros cuerpos con las espinas y abrojos del desierto.

Y Gedeón dijo: Pues cuando Jehová hubiere entregado en mi mano á Zeba y á Zalmunna, yo trillaré vuestra carne con espinas y abrojos del desierto.

And Gideon said, Therefore when the LORD hath delivered Zebah and Zalmunna into mine hand, then I will tear your flesh with the thorns of the wilderness and with briers.

Moviendo de allí vino a Fanuel, y propuso lo mismo a los habitantes de aquel lugar, que también le respondieron como los de Soccot.

Y de allí subió á Penuel, y hablóles las mismas palabras. Y los de Penuel le respondieron como habían respondido los de Succoth.

And he went up thence to Penuel, and spake unto them likewise: and the men of Penuel answered him as the men of Succoth had answered him.

Entretanto Zebee y Salmana estaban descansando con todo su ejército; porque de todas las tropas de los pueblos orientales habían quedado quince mil hombres, habiendo sido muertos ciento veinte mil soldados, que manejaban la espada.

Y Zeba y Zalmunna estaban en Carcor, y con ellos su ejército de como quince mil hombres, todos los que habían quedado de todo el campo de los orientales: y los muertos habían sido ciento veinte mil hombres que sacaban espada.

Gedeón, pues, tomando el camino hacia los árabes scenitas, o que habitaban en tiendas de campaña, a la parte oriental de Nobe y Jegbaa, derrotó el campamento de los enemigos; los cuales estaban descuidados, imaginando que ya no tenían que temer nada.

Y subiendo Gedeón hacia los que habitaban en tiendas, á la parte oriental de Noba y de Jogbea, hirió el campo, porque estaba el ejército sin recelo.

And Gideon went up by the way of them that dwelt in tents on the east of Nobah and Jogbehah, and smote the host: for the host was secure.

Zebee y Salmana echaron a huir; mas persiguiéndolos Gedeón, los prendió después de haber desbaratado todo su ejército.

Y volviendo de la batalla al otro día antes de salir el sol,

cogió a un mozo de los habitantes de Soccot, y le preguntó por los nombres de los principales y ancianos o senadores de Soccot, y señaló setenta y siete sujetos.

Con esto, entró en Soccot, y les dijo: Aquí tenéis a Zebee y a Salmana, sobre los cuales me zaheristeis diciendo: ¿Acaso tienes ya en tu poder maniatados a Zebee y a Salmana para que nos pidas que demos de comer a tus soldados desfallecidos de hambre y cansancio?

Y entrando á los de Succoth, dijo: He aquí á Zeba y á Zalmunna, sobre los cuales me zaheristeis, diciendo: ¿Está ya la mano de Zeba y de Zalmunna en tu mano, para que demos nosotros pan á tus hombres cansados?

And he came unto the men of Succoth, and said, Behold Zebah and Zalmunna, with whom ye did upbraid me, saying, Are the hands of Zebah and Zalmunna now in thine hand, that we should give bread unto thy men that are weary?

He came to the men of Succoth, and said, “See Zebah and Zalmunna, concerning whom you taunted me, saying, ‘Are the hands of Zebah and Zalmunna now in your hand, that we should give bread to your men who are weary?’”

Cogió, pues, a los ancianos de la ciudad y destrozó y desmenuzó sus cuerpos con espinas y abrojos del desierto.

Dijo después a Zebee y Salmana: ¿Qué traza tenían aquellos hombres que matasteis en el Tabor? Le respondieron: Eran parecidos a ti, y uno de ellos así como hijo de rey.

Luego dijo á Zeba y á Zalmunna: ¿Qué manera de hombres tenían aquellos que matasteis en Tabor? Y ellos respondieron: Como tú, tales eran aquellos ni más ni menos, que parecían hijos de rey.

Then said he unto Zebah and Zalmunna, What manner of men were they whom ye slew at Tabor? And they answered, As thou art, so were they; each one resembled the children of a king.

Then he said to Zebah and Zalmunna, “What kind of men were they whom you killed at Tabor?” They answered, “They were like you. They all resembled the children of a king.”

Les replicó Gedeón: Hermanos míos eran, hijos de mi madre. Vive Dios que si les hubieseis conservado la vida, yo tampoco os la quitaría a vosotros.

Y él dijo: Mis hermanos eran, hijos de mi madre: ¡Vive Jehová, que si los hubierais guardado en vida, yo no os mataría!

And he said, They were my brethren, even the sons of my mother: as the LORD liveth, if ye had saved them alive, I would not slay you.

He said, “They were my brothers, the sons of my mother. As the LORD lives, if you had saved them alive, I would not kill you.”

Dijo entonces a Jeter su primogénito: Anda, ve y mátalos. Mas Jeter no sacó la daga porque tenía miedo, siendo como era muchacho.

Y dijo á Jether su primogénito: Levántate, y mátalos. Mas el joven no desenvainó su espada, porque tenía temor; que aun era muchacho.

And he said unto Jether his firstborn, Up, and slay them. But the youth drew not his sword: for he feared, because he was yet a youth.

Y Zebee y Salmana dijeron: Ven tú y danos el golpe: pues a proporción de la edad es la fuerza del hombre. Acercóse Gedeón y mató a Zebee y a Salmana: y tomó después todos los adornos y lunitas de oro, con que suelen engalanarse los cuellos de los camellos de los reyes.

Entonces dijo Zeba y Zalmunna: Levántate tú, y mátanos; porque como es el varón, tal es su valentía. Y Gedeón se levantó, y mató á Zeba y á Zalmunna; y tomó los adornos de lunetas que sus camellos traían al cuello.

Then Zebah and Zalmunna said, Rise thou, and fall upon us: for as the man is, so is his strength. And Gideon arose, and slew Zebah and Zalmunna, and took away the ornaments that were on their camels’ necks.

Then Zebah and Zalmunna said, “You rise and fall on us; for as the man is, so is his strength.” Gideon arose, and killed Zebah and Zalmunna, and took the crescents that were on their camels’ necks.

Después de esto, todos los israelitas dijeron a Gedeón: Sé tú nuestro príncipe, y después de ti, tu hijo y tu nieto, ya que nos has librado del poder de Madián.

Y los Israelitas dijeron á Gedeón: Sé nuestro señor, tú, y tu hijo, y tu nieto; pues que nos has librado de mano de Madián.

Then the men of Israel said unto Gideon, Rule thou over us, both thou, and thy son, and thy son’s son also: for thou hast delivered us from the hand of Midian.

Then the men of Israel said to Gideon, “Rule over us, both you, your son, and your son’s son also; for you have saved us out of the hand of Midian.”

A los cuales él respondió: No seré yo príncipe vuestro, ni tampoco lo será mi hijo; sino que el Señor será quien domine y reine sobre vosotros.

Mas Gedeón respondió: No seré señor sobre vosotros, ni mi hijo os señoreará: Jehová será vuestro Señor.

And Gideon said unto them, I will not rule over you, neither shall my son rule over you: the LORD shall rule over you.

Gideon said to them, “I will not rule over you, neither shall my son rule over you. The LORD shall rule over you.”

Y les añadió: Una sola cosa os pido: dadme los zarcillos o pendientes que habéis hallado en el botín. Porque los israelitas acostumbraban traer zarcillos de oro.

Y díjoles Gedeón: Deseo haceros una petición, que cada uno me dé los zarcillos de su despojo. (Porque traían zarcillos de oro, que eran Ismaelitas.)

And Gideon said unto them, I would desire a request of you, that ye would give me every man the earrings of his prey. (For they had golden earrings, because they were Ishmaelites.)

Le respondieron: Los daremos con grandísimo gusto. Y extendiendo en tierra una capa, echaron en ella los zarcillos cogidos en el botín.

Y ellos respondieron: De buena gana los daremos. Y tendiendo una ropa de vestir, echó allí cada uno los zarcillos de su despojo.

And they answered, We will willingly give them. And they spread a garment, and did cast therein every man the earrings of his prey.

Y estos zarcillos que pidió Gedeón, pesaron mil seiscientos siclos de oro, sin contar los dijes y joyeles y vestidos de púrpura que solían usar los reyes de Madián, y además de los collares o sartales de oro de los camellos.

Y fué el peso de los zarcillos de oro que él pidió, mil y setecientos siclos de oro; sin las planchas, y joyeles, y vestidos de púrpura, que traían los reyes de Madián, y sin los collares que traían sus camellos al cuello.

And the weight of the golden earrings that he requested was a thousand and seven hundred shekels of gold; beside ornaments, and collars, and purple raiment that was on the kings of Midian, and beside the chains that were about their camels’ necks.

De todo esto hizo Gedeón un efod que puso en su patria la ciudad de Efra. Pero todo Israel idolatró por causa de este efod, después de la muerte de dicho caudillo; y el tal efod vino a ser la ruina de Gedeón y de toda su casa.

Y Gedeón hizo de ellos un ephod, el cual hizo guardar en su ciudad de Ophra: y todo Israel fornicó tras de ese ephod en aquel lugar; y fué por tropiezo á Gedeón y á su casa.

Quedaron, pues, los madianitas humillados delante de los hijos de Israel, y no pudieron después levantar cabeza; sino que todo el país estuvo en paz durante los cuarenta años que gobernó Gedeón.

Así fué humillado Madián delante de los hijos de Israel, y nunca más levantaron su cabeza. Y reposó la tierra cuarenta años en los días de Gedeón.

Thus was Midian subdued before the children of Israel, so that they lifted up their heads no more. And the country was in quietness forty years in the days of Gideon.

Al fin murió Gedeón, hijo de Joás, en próspera vejez, y fue colocado en el sepulcro de Joás, su padre, en Efra, ciudad de la familia de Ezri.

Y murió Gedeón hijo de Joas en buena vejez, y fué sepultado en el sepulcro de su padre Joas, en Ophra de los Abiezeritas.

Mas después que murió Gedeón, apostataron otra vez los hijos de Israel, y se prostituyeron a los ídolos, y pactaron alianza con Baal, para que fuese su Dios;

And it came to pass, as soon as Gideon was dead, that the children of Israel turned again, and went a whoring after Baalim, and made Baal-berith their god.

no acordándose del Señor Dios suyo que los libertó de las manos de todos sus enemigos, que tenían alrededor;

ni usaron de piedad con la casa de Jerobaal, esto es de Gedeón, por todos los beneficios que había hecho a Israel.

Neither shewed they kindness to the house of Jerubbaal, namely, Gideon, according to all the goodness which he had shewed unto Israel.
