Entonces los hombres de Efraín le preguntaron a Gedeón: “¿Por qué nos has tratado así? ¿Por qué no nos llamaste cuando fuiste a atacar a los madianitas?” Allí discutieron acaloradamente con él.

Y LOS de Ephraim le dijeron: ¿Qué es esto que has hecho con nosotros, no llamándonos cuando ibas á la guerra contra Madián? Y reconviniéronlo fuertemente.

And the men of Ephraim said unto him, Why hast thou served us thus, that thou calledst us not, when thou wentest to fight with the Midianites? And they did chide with him sharply.

The men of Ephraim said to him, “Why have you treated us this way, that you didn’t call us when you went to fight with Midian?” They rebuked him sharply.

“¿Y acaso qué he logrado yo en comparación con ustedes?” respondió Gedeón. “¡Incluso las uvas que sobran en Efraín son mejores que toda la cosecha de uvas de Abiezer!

A los cuales él respondió: ¿Qué he hecho yo ahora como vosotros? ¿No es el rebusco de Ephraim mejor que la vendimia de Abiezer?

And he said unto them, What have I done now in comparison of you? Is not the gleaning of the grapes of Ephraim better than the vintage of Abi-ezer?

Dios les entregó a Oreb y Zeeb, los dos comandantes madianitas. ¿Qué he conseguido yo a diferencia de ustedes?”. Cuando les dijo esto, su hostilidad hacia él se disipó.

Dios ha entregado en vuestras manos á Oreb y á Zeeb, príncipes de Madián: ¿y qué pude yo hacer como vosotros? Entonces el enojo de ellos contra él se aplacó, luego que él habló esta palabra.

God hath delivered into your hands the princes of Midian, Oreb and Zeeb: and what was I able to do in comparison of you? Then their anger was abated toward him, when he had said that.

Entonces Gedeón cruzó el Jordán con sus trescientos hombres. Aunque estaban agotados, continuaron la búsqueda.

Y dijo á los de Succoth: Yo os ruego que deis á la gente que me sigue algunos bocados de pan; porque están cansados, y yo persigo á Zeba y á Zalmunna, reyes de Madián.

And he said unto the men of Succoth, Give, I pray you, loaves of bread unto the people that follow me; for they be faint, and I am pursuing after Zebah and Zalmunna, kings of Midian.

He said to the men of Succoth, “Please give loaves of bread to the people who follow me; for they are faint, and I am pursuing after Zebah and Zalmunna, the kings of Midian.”

Pero los dirigentes del pueblo de Sucot respondieron: “¿Por qué habríamos de darle pan a tu ejército si todavía no has capturado a Zeba y Zalmuna?”

Y los principales de Succoth respondieron: ¿Está ya la mano de Zeba y Zalmunna en tu mano, para que hayamos nosotros de dar pan á tu ejército?

And the princes of Succoth said, Are the hands of Zebah and Zalmunna now in thine hand, that we should give bread unto thine army?

The princes of Succoth said, “Are the hands of Zebah and Zalmunna now in your hand, that we should give bread to your army?”

“¡En ese caso, tan pronto como el Señor me haya entregado a Zeba y a Zalmuna, volveré aquí y los azotaré con espinas y cardos del desierto!” respondió Gedeón.

Y Gedeón dijo: Pues cuando Jehová hubiere entregado en mi mano á Zeba y á Zalmunna, yo trillaré vuestra carne con espinas y abrojos del desierto.

And Gideon said, Therefore when the LORD hath delivered Zebah and Zalmunna into mine hand, then I will tear your flesh with the thorns of the wilderness and with briers.

Entonces se fue y fue a Peniel y les hizo el mismo pedido, pero el pueblo de Peniel respondió lo mismo que el pueblo de Sucot.

Y de allí subió á Penuel, y hablóles las mismas palabras. Y los de Penuel le respondieron como habían respondido los de Succoth.

And he went up thence to Penuel, and spake unto them likewise: and the men of Penuel answered him as the men of Succoth had answered him.

Entonces les dijo: “¡Cuando regrese victorioso, demoleré esta torre!”.

Zeba y Zalmuna estaban en Carcor con sus ejércitos de unos quince mil hombres. Estos eran todos los que quedaban de los ejércitos del pueblo de Oriente; ya habían muerto ciento veinte mil hombres.

Y Zeba y Zalmunna estaban en Carcor, y con ellos su ejército de como quince mil hombres, todos los que habían quedado de todo el campo de los orientales: y los muertos habían sido ciento veinte mil hombres que sacaban espada.

Now Zebah and Zalmunna were in Karkor, and their hosts with them, about fifteen thousand men, all that were left of all the hosts of the children of the east: for there fell an hundred and twenty thousand men that drew sword.

Gedeón tomó la ruta de las caravanas hacia el este de Noba y Yogbea, y atacó a su ejército, tomándolos desprevenidos.

Y subiendo Gedeón hacia los que habitaban en tiendas, á la parte oriental de Noba y de Jogbea, hirió el campo, porque estaba el ejército sin recelo.

And Gideon went up by the way of them that dwelt in tents on the east of Nobah and Jogbehah, and smote the host: for the host was secure.

Entonces Gedeón, hijo de Joás, regresó de la batalla por el paso de Heres.

And caught a young man of the men of Succoth, and enquired of him: and he described unto him the princes of Succoth, and the elders thereof, even threescore and seventeen men.

Gedeón fue y les dijo a los líderes del pueblo de Sucot: “Aquí están Zeba y Zalmuna, de los que se burlaron cuando me dijeron: ‘¿Por qué debemos darle pan a tu ejército cansado cuando aún no has capturado a Zeba y Zalmuna?’”

Y entrando á los de Succoth, dijo: He aquí á Zeba y á Zalmunna, sobre los cuales me zaheristeis, diciendo: ¿Está ya la mano de Zeba y de Zalmunna en tu mano, para que demos nosotros pan á tus hombres cansados?

And he came unto the men of Succoth, and said, Behold Zebah and Zalmunna, with whom ye did upbraid me, saying, Are the hands of Zebah and Zalmunna now in thine hand, that we should give bread unto thy men that are weary?

He came to the men of Succoth, and said, “See Zebah and Zalmunna, concerning whom you taunted me, saying, ‘Are the hands of Zebah and Zalmunna now in your hand, that we should give bread to your men who are weary?’”

Así que tomó a los ancianos de la ciudad de Sucot y los castigó usando espinas y cardos del desierto.

And he took the elders of the city, and thorns of the wilderness and briers, and with them he taught the men of Succoth.

Entonces Gedeón les preguntó a Zeba y a Zalmuna: “¿Cómo eran los hombres que mataron en el Tabor?” “Se parecían a ustedes”, respondieron. “Cada uno de ellos tenía la estatura de un príncipe”.

Luego dijo á Zeba y á Zalmunna: ¿Qué manera de hombres tenían aquellos que matasteis en Tabor? Y ellos respondieron: Como tú, tales eran aquellos ni más ni menos, que parecían hijos de rey.

Then said he unto Zebah and Zalmunna, What manner of men were they whom ye slew at Tabor? And they answered, As thou art, so were they; each one resembled the children of a king.

Then he said to Zebah and Zalmunna, “What kind of men were they whom you killed at Tabor?” They answered, “They were like you. They all resembled the children of a king.”

“Esos eran mis hermanos, los hijos de mi madre”, estalló Gedeón. “¡Vive el Señor, si los hubieran dejado vivir, no los mataría a ustedes!”.

Y él dijo: Mis hermanos eran, hijos de mi madre: ¡Vive Jehová, que si los hubierais guardado en vida, yo no os mataría!

And he said, They were my brethren, even the sons of my mother: as the LORD liveth, if ye had saved them alive, I would not slay you.

He said, “They were my brothers, the sons of my mother. As the LORD lives, if you had saved them alive, I would not kill you.”

Entonces le dijo a Jéter, su hijo mayor: “¡Anda, mátalos!”. Pero el joven se negó a sacar la espada, porque era joven y tenía miedo.

Y dijo á Jether su primogénito: Levántate, y mátalos. Mas el joven no desenvainó su espada, porque tenía temor; que aun era muchacho.

And he said unto Jether his firstborn, Up, and slay them. But the youth drew not his sword: for he feared, because he was yet a youth.

Zeba y Zalmuna le dijeron a Gedeón: “¡Vamos, hazlo tú! Muéstrate como un hombre y mátanos”. Entonces Gedeón se acercó y mató a Zeba y a Zalmuna, y tomó los adornos en forma de media luna del cuello de sus camellos.

Entonces dijo Zeba y Zalmunna: Levántate tú, y mátanos; porque como es el varón, tal es su valentía. Y Gedeón se levantó, y mató á Zeba y á Zalmunna; y tomó los adornos de lunetas que sus camellos traían al cuello.

Then Zebah and Zalmunna said, Rise thou, and fall upon us: for as the man is, so is his strength. And Gideon arose, and slew Zebah and Zalmunna, and took away the ornaments that were on their camels’ necks.

Then Zebah and Zalmunna said, “You rise and fall on us; for as the man is, so is his strength.” Gideon arose, and killed Zebah and Zalmunna, and took the crescents that were on their camels’ necks.

Entonces los israelitas le dijeron a Gedeón: “Tú deberías ser nuestro gobernante. Tú, tu hijo y el hijo de tu hijo, porque tú nos has salvado de los madianitas”.

Y los Israelitas dijeron á Gedeón: Sé nuestro señor, tú, y tu hijo, y tu nieto; pues que nos has librado de mano de Madián.

Then the men of Israel said unto Gideon, Rule thou over us, both thou, and thy son, and thy son’s son also: for thou hast delivered us from the hand of Midian.

Then the men of Israel said to Gideon, “Rule over us, both you, your son, and your son’s son also; for you have saved us out of the hand of Midian.”

“Yo no seré su gobernante, ni mi hijo tampoco”, respondió Gedeón. “El Señor será el gobernante de Israel”.

Mas Gedeón respondió: No seré señor sobre vosotros, ni mi hijo os señoreará: Jehová será vuestro Señor.

And Gideon said unto them, I will not rule over you, neither shall my son rule over you: the LORD shall rule over you.

Gideon said to them, “I will not rule over you, neither shall my son rule over you. The LORD shall rule over you.”

Entonces Gedeón dijo: “Tengo una petición que hacerles: que cada uno de ustedes me dé un pendiente de su botín”. (Sus enemigos eran ismaelitas y llevaban pendientes de oro).

Y díjoles Gedeón: Deseo haceros una petición, que cada uno me dé los zarcillos de su despojo. (Porque traían zarcillos de oro, que eran Ismaelitas.)

And Gideon said unto them, I would desire a request of you, that ye would give me every man the earrings of his prey. (For they had golden earrings, because they were Ishmaelites.)

“Te los daremos con gusto”, respondieron. Entonces extendieron un manto, y cada uno de ellos echó sobre él pendientes de su botín.

Y ellos respondieron: De buena gana los daremos. Y tendiendo una ropa de vestir, echó allí cada uno los zarcillos de su despojo.

And they answered, We will willingly give them. And they spread a garment, and did cast therein every man the earrings of his prey.

El peso de los pendientes que recibió Gedeón era de 1.700 siclos, sin incluir los adornos, sino los colgantes y las prendas de color púrpura que llevaban los reyes madianitas ni las cadenas que llevaban al cuello de sus camellos.

Y fué el peso de los zarcillos de oro que él pidió, mil y setecientos siclos de oro; sin las planchas, y joyeles, y vestidos de púrpura, que traían los reyes de Madián, y sin los collares que traían sus camellos al cuello.

And the weight of the golden earrings that he requested was a thousand and seven hundred shekels of gold; beside ornaments, and collars, and purple raiment that was on the kings of Midian, and beside the chains that were about their camels’ necks.

Con el oro, Gedeón hizo un efod, que colocó en su ciudad natal de Ofra. Todo Israel se prostituyó allí adorándolo como un ídolo, y se convirtió en una trampa para Gedeón y su familia.

Y Gedeón hizo de ellos un ephod, el cual hizo guardar en su ciudad de Ophra: y todo Israel fornicó tras de ese ephod en aquel lugar; y fué por tropiezo á Gedeón y á su casa.

And Gideon made an ephod thereof, and put it in his city, even in Ophrah: and all Israel went thither a whoring after it: which thing became a snare unto Gideon, and to his house.

Así fue como los madianitas fueron subyugados ante los israelitas y no volvieron a ganar poder. Así, la tierra estuvo en paz durante cuarenta años, estando Gedeón en vida.

Así fué humillado Madián delante de los hijos de Israel, y nunca más levantaron su cabeza. Y reposó la tierra cuarenta años en los días de Gedeón.

Thus was Midian subdued before the children of Israel, so that they lifted up their heads no more. And the country was in quietness forty years in the days of Gideon.

Gedeón, hijo de Joás, murió a una edad avanzada y fue sepultado en la tumba de su padre Joás, en Ofra de los abiezritas.

Pero en cuanto murió Gedeón, los israelitas volvieron a prostituirse, adorando ante los baales. Hicieron de Baal-berit su dios.

Y aconteció que como murió Gedeón, los hijos de Israel tornaron, y fornicaron en pos de los Baales, y se pusieron por Dios á Baal-berith.

And it came to pass, as soon as Gideon was dead, that the children of Israel turned again, and went a whoring after Baalim, and made Baal-berith their god.

Se olvidaron del Señor, su Dios, que los había salvado de todos los enemigos que los rodeaban.

Y no se acordaron los hijos de Israel de Jehová su Dios, que los había librado de todos sus enemigos alrededor:

And the children of Israel remembered not the LORD their God, who had delivered them out of the hands of all their enemies on every side:

No mostraron ningún respeto a la familia de Jerob-baal (Gedeón) por todo el bien que había hecho por Israel.

Ni hicieron misericordia con la casa de Jerobaal Gedeón, conforme á todo el bien que él había hecho á Israel.

Neither shewed they kindness to the house of Jerubbaal, namely, Gideon, according to all the goodness which he had shewed unto Israel.
