Abimelec, hijo de Jerobaal, fue a Siquem con la familia de su madre, y les dijo a ellos y a toda la familia del padre de su madre:

Y FUÉSE Abimelech hijo de Jerobaal á Sichêm, á los hermanos de su madre, y habló con ellos, y con toda la familia de la casa del padre de su madre, diciendo:

And Abimelech the son of Jerubbaal went to Shechem unto his mother’s brethren, and communed with them, and with all the family of the house of his mother’s father, saying,

Ahora, a los oídos de todos los habitantes de Siquem, es mejor que seas gobernado por los setenta hijos de Jerobaal o por un solo hombre? Y recuerda que yo soy tu hueso y tu carne.

Yo os ruego que habléis á oídos de todos los de Sichêm: ¿Qué tenéis por mejor, que os señoreen setenta hombres, todos los hijos de Jerobaal; ó que os señoree un varón? Acordaos que yo soy hueso vuestro, y carne vuestra.

Speak, I pray you, in the ears of all the men of Shechem, Whether is better for you, either that all the sons of Jerubbaal, which are threescore and ten persons, reign over you, or that one reign over you? remember also that I am your bone and your flesh.

“Please speak in the ears of all the men of Shechem, ‘Is it better for you that all the sons of Jerubbaal, who are seventy persons, rule over you, or that one rule over you?’ Remember also that I am your bone and your flesh.”

Entonces la familia de su madre dijo todo esto acerca de él a los oídos de todos los habitantes de Siquem: y sus corazones se volvieron a Abimelec, porque decían: Él es nuestro hermano.

Y hablaron por él los hermanos de su madre á oídos de todos los de Sichêm todas estas palabras: y el corazón de ellos se inclinó en favor de Abimelech, porque decían: Nuestro hermano es.

And his mother’s brethren spake of him in the ears of all the men of Shechem all these words: and their hearts inclined to follow Abimelech; for they said, He is our brother.

Y le dieron setenta siclos de plata de la casa de Baal-berit, con los que Abimelec recibió el apoyo de varias personas vagabundos y que no servían para nada.

And he went unto his father’s house at Ophrah, and slew his brethren the sons of Jerubbaal, being threescore and ten persons, upon one stone: notwithstanding yet Jotham the youngest son of Jerubbaal was left; for he hid himself.

Y se juntaron todos los habitantes de Siquem y todo Bet-milo, y fueron e hicieron a Abimelec su rey, junto al roble de la columna en Siquem.

Y reunidos todos los de Sichêm con toda la casa de Millo, fueron y eligieron á Abimelech por rey, cerca de la llanura del pilar que estaba en Sichêm.

And all the men of Shechem gathered together, and all the house of Millo, and went, and made Abimelech king, by the plain of the pillar that was in Shechem.

Jotam, al oírlo, fue a la cima del monte Gerizim y gritando a gran voz, les dijo: “Escúchenme, pobladores de Siquem, para que Dios los escuche.”

Y como se lo dijesen á Jotham, fué y púsose en la cumbre del monte de Gerizim, y alzando su voz clamó, y díjoles: Oidme, varones de Sichêm; que Dios os oiga.

And when they told it to Jotham, he went and stood in the top of mount Gerizim, and lifted up his voice, and cried, and said unto them, Hearken unto me, ye men of Shechem, that God may hearken unto you.

Un día salieron los árboles para hacerse un rey; Y dijeron al olivo: Reina sobre nosotros.

The trees went forth on a time to anoint a king over them; and they said unto the olive tree, Reign thou over us.

Mas la oliva respondió: ¿Tengo de dejar mi pingüe jugo, con el que por mi causa Dios y los hombres son honrados, por ir á ser grande sobre los árboles?

But the olive tree said unto them, Should I leave my fatness, wherewith by me they honour God and man, and go to be promoted over the trees?

“But the olive tree said to them, ‘Should I stop producing my oil, with which they honor God and man by me, and go to wave back and forth over the trees?’

Entonces los árboles dijeron a la higuera: Reina sobre nosotros.

And the trees said to the fig tree, Come thou, and reign over us.

“The trees said to the fig tree, ‘Come and reign over us.’

Pero la higuera les dijo: ¿Debo renunciar a mi dulce sabor y mi buen fruto e ir a ondear sobre los árboles?

Y respondió la higuera: ¿Tengo de dejar mi dulzura y mi buen fruto, por ir á ser grande sobre los árboles?

But the fig tree said unto them, Should I forsake my sweetness, and my good fruit, and go to be promoted over the trees?

“But the fig tree said to them, ‘Should I leave my sweetness, and my good fruit, and go to wave back and forth over the trees?’

Entonces los árboles dijeron a la vid: Reina sobre nosotros.

Then said the trees unto the vine, Come thou, and reign over us.

Pero la vid les dijo: ¿Debo renunciar a mi vino, que alegra a Dios y a los hombres, para ir a ondear sobre los árboles?

Y la vid les respondió: ¿Tengo de dejar mi mosto, que alegra á Dios y á los hombres, por ir á ser grande sobre los árboles?

And the vine said unto them, Should I leave my wine, which cheereth God and man, and go to be promoted over the trees?

“The vine said to them, ‘Should I leave my new wine, which cheers God and man, and go to wave back and forth over the trees?’

Entonces todos los árboles dijeron a la espina: Reina sobre nosotros.

Then said all the trees unto the bramble, Come thou, and reign over us.

“Then all the trees said to the bramble, ‘Come and reign over us.’

Y el espino dijo a los árboles: Si en verdad me ungen por rey, sobre ustedes, ven y ponte bajo mi sombra; y si no, que salga fuego de la espina, quemando los cedros del Líbano.

And the bramble said unto the trees, If in truth ye anoint me king over you, then come and put your trust in my shadow: and if not, let fire come out of the bramble, and devour the cedars of Lebanon.

“The bramble said to the trees, ‘If in truth you anoint me king over you, then come and take refuge in my shade; and if not, let fire come out of the bramble, and devour the cedars of Lebanon.’

Ahora, si has hecho verdadera y rectamente al hacer rey a Abimelec, y si has hecho bien a Jerobaal y su casa en recompensa por la obra de sus manos;

Ahora pues, si con verdad y con integridad habéis procedido en hacer rey á Abimelech, y si lo habéis hecho bien con Jerobaal y con su casa, y si le habéis pagado conforme á la obra de sus manos;

Now therefore, if ye have done truly and sincerely, in that ye have made Abimelech king, and if ye have dealt well with Jerubbaal and his house, and have done unto him according to the deserving of his hands;

“Now therefore, if you have dealt truly and righteously, in that you have made Abimelech king, and if you have dealt well with Jerubbaal and his house, and have done to him according to the deserving of his hands

Porque mi padre hizo la guerra por ti, y puso su vida en peligro, y te liberó de las manos de Madián;

(Pues que mi padre peleó por vosotros, y echó lejos su vida por libraros de mano de Madián;

(For my father fought for you, and adventured his life far, and delivered you out of the hand of Midian:

Y hoy has ido contra la familia de mi padre, y has matado a sus hijos, setenta hombres en una piedra, y has hecho a Abimelec, hijo de su concubina, rey sobre los habitantes de Siquem, porque es tu hermano;

Y vosotros os levantasteis hoy contra la casa de mi padre, y matasteis sus hijos, setenta varones, sobre una piedra; y habéis puesto por rey sobre los de Sichêm á Abimelech, hijo de su criada, por cuanto es vuestro hermano:)

And ye are risen up against my father’s house this day, and have slain his sons, threescore and ten persons, upon one stone, and have made Abimelech, the son of his maidservant, king over the men of Shechem, because he is your brother;)

and you have risen up against my father’s house today and have slain his sons, seventy persons, on one stone, and have made Abimelech, the son of his female servant, king over the men of Shechem, because he is your brother);

Si entonces has hecho lo que es verdadero y recto para Jerobaal y su familia en este día, que tengas gozo en Abimelec, y que él tenga gozo en ti;

Si con verdad y con integridad habéis obrado hoy con Jerobaal y con su casa, que gocéis de Abimelech, y él goce de vosotros.

If ye then have dealt truly and sincerely with Jerubbaal and with his house this day, then rejoice ye in Abimelech, and let him also rejoice in you:

if you then have dealt truly and righteously with Jerubbaal and with his house today, then rejoice in Abimelech, and let him also rejoice in you;

Pero si no, puede salir fuego de Abimelec, quemando a los hombres de la ciudad de Siquem y Bet-milo; y que salga fuego de los pobladores de Siquem y Bet-milo, para la destrucción de Abimelec.

Y si no, fuego salga de Abimelech, que consuma á los de Sichêm y á la casa de Millo; y fuego salga de los de Sichêm y de la casa de Millo, que consuma á Abimelech.

But if not, let fire come out from Abimelech, and devour the men of Shechem, and the house of Millo; and let fire come out from the men of Shechem, and from the house of Millo, and devour Abimelech.

Entonces Jotam se fue en vuelo a Beer, y vivía allí por temor a su hermano Abimelec.

Y huyó Jotham, y se fugó, y fuése á Beer, y allí se estuvo por causa de Abimelech su hermano.

And Jotham ran away, and fled, and went to Beer, and dwelt there, for fear of Abimelech his brother.

Entonces Abimelec fue jefe sobre Israel por tres años.

Y envió Dios un espíritu malo entre Abimelec y los habitantes de Siquem; y los hombres de la ciudad de Siquem se rebelaron contra Abimelec;

Para que el castigo por los violentos ataques a los setenta hijos de Jerobaal, y por su sangre, venga sobre Abimelec, su hermano, quien los mató, y sobre los habitantes de la ciudad de Siquem que le dieron su ayuda para ponerlos a sus hermanos a la muerte.

That the cruelty done to the threescore and ten sons of Jerubbaal might come, and their blood be laid upon Abimelech their brother, which slew them; and upon the men of Shechem, which aided him in the killing of his brethren.

that the violence done to the seventy sons of Jerubbaal might come, and that their blood might be laid on Abimelech their brother who killed them, and on the men of Shechem who strengthened his hands to kill his brothers.

Y los habitantes de la ciudad de Siquem pusieron observadores secretos en las cimas de las montañas, e hicieron ataques contra todos los que pasaban por el camino y tomaban sus bienes; Y la noticia de esto vino a Abimelec.

Y pusiéronle los de Sichêm asechadores en las cumbres de los montes, los cuales salteaban á todos los que pasaban junto á ellos por el camino; de lo que fué dado aviso á Abimelech.

And the men of Shechem set liers in wait for him in the top of the mountains, and they robbed all that came along that way by them: and it was told Abimelech.

Entonces Gaal, el hijo de Ebed, vino con sus hermanos y fue a Siquem; Y los hombres de Siquem pusieron su fe en él.

And they went out into the fields, and gathered their vineyards, and trode the grapes, and made merry, and went into the house of their god, and did eat and drink, and cursed Abimelech.

Y Gaal, hijo de Ebed, dijo: ¿Quién es Abimelec y quién es Siquem, para que seamos sus siervos? ¿No es más que el hijo de Jerobaal y su capitán Zebul? Seamos siervos de Hamor, el fundador de Siquem. ¿Pero por qué vamos a ser siervos de Abimelec?

Y Gaal hijo de Ebed dijo: ¿Quién es Abimelech y qué es Sichêm, para que nosotros á él sirvamos? ¿no es hijo de Jerobaal? ¿y no es Zebul su asistente? Servid á los varones de Hemor padre de Sichêm: mas ¿por qué habíamos de servir á él?

And Gaal the son of Ebed said, Who is Abimelech, and who is Shechem, that we should serve him? is not he the son of Jerubbaal? and Zebul his officer? serve the men of Hamor the father of Shechem: for why should we serve him?

¡Ojalá tuviera autoridad sobre este pueblo! Quitaría a Abimelec del camino y le diría a Abimelec: Aumenta tu ejército y ven a pelear.

Fuérame dado este pueblo bajo de mi mano, yo echaría luego á Abimelech. Y decía á Abimelech: Aumenta tus escuadrones, y sal.

And would to God this people were under my hand! then would I remove Abimelech. And he said to Abimelech, Increase thine army, and come out.

I wish that this people were under my hand! Then I would remove Abimelech.” He said to Abimelech, “Increase your army and come out!”

Ahora Zebul, el gobernante de la ciudad, oyendo lo que había dicho Gaal, el hijo de Ebed, se enfureció.

Y Zebul asistente de la ciudad, oyendo las palabras de Gaal hijo de Ebed, encendióse su ira;

And when Zebul the ruler of the city heard the words of Gaal the son of Ebed, his anger was kindled.

Entonces envió un mensaje a Abimelec a Aruma, diciendo: Mira, Gaal, el hijo de Ebed, y sus hermanos han venido a Siquem, y están trabajando en la ciudad contra ti.

Y envió sagazmente mensajeros á Abimelech, diciendo: He aquí que Gaal hijo de Ebed y sus hermanos han venido á Sichêm, y he aquí, que han cercado la ciudad contra ti.

And he sent messengers unto Abimelech privily, saying, Behold, Gaal the son of Ebed and his brethren be come to Shechem; and, behold, they fortify the city against thee.

Ahora, levántate por la noche, tú y tu gente, y vela en secreto en el campo;

And it shall be, that in the morning, as soon as the sun is up, thou shalt rise early, and set upon the city: and, behold, when he and the people that is with him come out against thee, then mayest thou do to them as thou shalt find occasion.

Entonces, Abimelec y las personas que estaban con él se levantaron por la noche, en cuatro escuadrones, para atacar por sorpresa a Siquem.

Levantándose pues de noche Abimelech y todo el pueblo que con él estaba, pusieron emboscada contra Sichêm con cuatro compañías.

Salió Gaal, el hijo de Ebed, y tomó asiento junto a la entrada de la ciudad; entonces Abimelec y su gente se levantaron del lugar donde habían estado esperando.

Y cuando Gaal vio a la gente, dijo a Zebul: ¡Mira! La gente está bajando de las cimas de las montañas. Y Zebul le dijo: Tú ves la sombra de las montañas como hombres.

Y viendo Gaal el pueblo, dijo á Zebul: He allí pueblo que desciende de las cumbres de los montes. Y Zebul le respondió: La sombra de los montes te parece hombres.

And when Gaal saw the people, he said to Zebul, Behold, there come people down from the top of the mountains. And Zebul said unto him, Thou seest the shadow of the mountains as if they were men.

When Gaal saw the people, he said to Zebul, “Behold, people are coming down from the tops of the mountains.” Zebul said to him, “You see the shadows of the mountains as if they were men.”

Y Gaal dijo de nuevo: ¡Mira! la gente viene de la parte más alta de la tierra, y un escuadrón viene del camino de roble de los agoreros.

Mas Gaal tornó á hablar, y dijo: He allí pueblo que desciende por medio de la tierra, y un escuadrón viene camino de la campiña de Meonenim.

And Gaal spake again and said, See there come people down by the middle of the land, and another company come along by the plain of Meonenim.

Entonces Zebul le dijo: Ahora, ¿dónde está tu voz alta cuando dijiste: ¿Quién es Abimelec que somos para ser sus siervos? ¿No es esta la gente que calificaste tan bajo? Sal ahora, y pelea contra ellos.

Y Zebul le respondió: ¿Dónde está ahora aquel tu hablar, diciendo: Quién es Abimelech para que le sirvamos? ¿No es este el pueblo que tenías en poco? Sal pues ahora, y pelea con él.

Then said Zebul unto him, Where is now thy mouth, wherewith thou saidst, Who is Abimelech, that we should serve him? is not this the people that thou hast despised? go out, I pray now, and fight with them.

Then Zebul said to him, “Now where is your mouth, that you said, ‘Who is Abimelech, that we should serve him?’ Isn’t this the people that you have despised? Please go out now and fight with them.”

Entonces Gaal salió a la cabeza de los hombres de la ciudad de Siquem a pelear contra Abimelec.

And Abimelech dwelt at Arumah: and Zebul thrust out Gaal and his brethren, that they should not dwell in Shechem.

And it came to pass on the morrow, that the people went out into the field; and they told Abimelech.

Y tomó a su gente, separándose en tres escuadrones , y estaba esperando secretamente en el campo; y cuando vio que la gente salía de la ciudad, subió y los atacó.

El cual, tomando gente, repartióla en tres compañías, y puso emboscadas en el campo: y como miró, he aquí el pueblo que salía de la ciudad; y levantóse contra ellos, é hiriólos:

And he took the people, and divided them into three companies, and laid wait in the field, and looked, and, behold, the people were come forth out of the city; and he rose up against them, and smote them.

Y Abimelec, con su escuadrón, se apresuró, y tomó su posición en la entrada de la ciudad; y las otras dos bandas se apresuraron sobre todos los que estaban en los campos, y los superaron.

Pues Abimelech y el escuadrón que estaba con él, acometieron con ímpetu, y pararon á la entrada de la puerta de la ciudad; y las dos compañías acometieron á todos los que estaban en el campo, y los hirieron.
