Abimélec, fils de Jérubbaal, se rendit à Sichem, chez les frères de sa mère, et leur tint, ainsi qu’à toute la famille paternelle de sa mère, ce discours:

Y FUÉSE Abimelech hijo de Jerobaal á Sichêm, á los hermanos de su madre, y habló con ellos, y con toda la familia de la casa del padre de su madre, diciendo:

And Abimelech the son of Jerubbaal went to Shechem unto his mother’s brethren, and communed with them, and with all the family of the house of his mother’s father, saying,

"Faites donc entendre ceci à tous les bourgeois de Sichem: Lequel vaut mieux pour vous, être gouvernés par soixante-dix hommes, par tous les fils de Jérubbaal, ou d’être gouvernés par un seul homme? Et souvenez-vous que je suis de votre sang et de votre chair."

Yo os ruego que habléis á oídos de todos los de Sichêm: ¿Qué tenéis por mejor, que os señoreen setenta hombres, todos los hijos de Jerobaal; ó que os señoree un varón? Acordaos que yo soy hueso vuestro, y carne vuestra.

Speak, I pray you, in the ears of all the men of Shechem, Whether is better for you, either that all the sons of Jerubbaal, which are threescore and ten persons, reign over you, or that one reign over you? remember also that I am your bone and your flesh.

“Please speak in the ears of all the men of Shechem, ‘Is it better for you that all the sons of Jerubbaal, who are seventy persons, rule over you, or that one rule over you?’ Remember also that I am your bone and your flesh.”

Les frères de sa mère firent entendre toutes ces choses, en sa faveur, aux bourgeois de Sichem, et le cœur de ceux-ci inclina pour Abimélec, car ils se disaient: "C’est notre frère."

Y hablaron por él los hermanos de su madre á oídos de todos los de Sichêm todas estas palabras: y el corazón de ellos se inclinó en favor de Abimelech, porque decían: Nuestro hermano es.

And his mother’s brethren spake of him in the ears of all the men of Shechem all these words: and their hearts inclined to follow Abimelech; for they said, He is our brother.

Ils lui donnèrent soixante-dix pièces d’argent, tirées du temple de Baal-Berith, et Abimélec s’en servit pour stipendier des gens de rien, des aventuriers, qui le suivirent.

Y diéronle setenta siclos de plata del templo de Baal-berith, con los cuales Abimelech alquiló hombres ociosos y vagabundos, que le siguieron.

And they gave him threescore and ten pieces of silver out of the house of Baal-berith, wherewith Abimelech hired vain and light persons, which followed him.

Alors il s’en fut à Ofra, dans la maison de son père, et massacra ses frères, les soixante-dix fils de Jérubbaal, sur une même pierre. Jotham, le plus jeune fils de Jérubbaal, resta sauf, parce qu’il s’était caché.

Y viniendo á la casa de su padre en Ophra, mató á sus hermanos los hijos de Jerobaal, setenta varones, sobre una piedra: mas quedó Jotham, el más pequeño hijo de Jerobaal, que se escondió.

And he went unto his father’s house at Ophrah, and slew his brethren the sons of Jerubbaal, being threescore and ten persons, upon one stone: notwithstanding yet Jotham the youngest son of Jerubbaal was left; for he hid himself.

Or, tous les bourgeois de Sichem et toute la maison de Millo s’assemblèrent et se rendirent auprès du Chêne de Mouçab, dans Sichem. Là ils proclamèrent roi Abimélec.

Y reunidos todos los de Sichêm con toda la casa de Millo, fueron y eligieron á Abimelech por rey, cerca de la llanura del pilar que estaba en Sichêm.

And all the men of Shechem gathered together, and all the house of Millo, and went, and made Abimelech king, by the plain of the pillar that was in Shechem.

Jotham, instruit du fait, alla se placer sur le sommet du mont Garizim et, élevant la voix, les interpella ainsi: "Ecoutez-moi, bourgeois de Sichem, et Dieu aussi vous écoutera!

Y como se lo dijesen á Jotham, fué y púsose en la cumbre del monte de Gerizim, y alzando su voz clamó, y díjoles: Oidme, varones de Sichêm; que Dios os oiga.

And when they told it to Jotham, he went and stood in the top of mount Gerizim, and lifted up his voice, and cried, and said unto them, Hearken unto me, ye men of Shechem, that God may hearken unto you.

Un jour les arbres se mirent en campagne pour se donner un roi. Ils dirent à l’olivier: "Sois notre roi."

The trees went forth on a time to anoint a king over them; and they said unto the olive tree, Reign thou over us.

L’olivier leur répondit: "Quoi! je renoncerais à mon suc, que Dieu et les hommes prisent en moi, pour aller me fatiguer à gouverner les arbres?"

Mas la oliva respondió: ¿Tengo de dejar mi pingüe jugo, con el que por mi causa Dios y los hombres son honrados, por ir á ser grande sobre los árboles?

But the olive tree said unto them, Should I leave my fatness, wherewith by me they honour God and man, and go to be promoted over the trees?

“But the olive tree said to them, ‘Should I stop producing my oil, with which they honor God and man by me, and go to wave back and forth over the trees?’

Et les arbres dirent au figuier: "Viens, toi, régner sur nous."

Y dijeron los árboles á la higuera: Anda tú, reina sobre nosotros.

And the trees said to the fig tree, Come thou, and reign over us.

“The trees said to the fig tree, ‘Come and reign over us.’

Le figuier leur répondit: "Quoi! je renoncerais à ma douceur et à ma production exquise pour me fatiguer à gouverner les arbres?"

Y respondió la higuera: ¿Tengo de dejar mi dulzura y mi buen fruto, por ir á ser grande sobre los árboles?

But the fig tree said unto them, Should I forsake my sweetness, and my good fruit, and go to be promoted over the trees?

“But the fig tree said to them, ‘Should I leave my sweetness, and my good fruit, and go to wave back and forth over the trees?’

Et les arbres dirent à la vigne: "Viens, toi, règne sur nous."

Dijeron luego los árboles á la vid: Pues ven tú, reina sobre nosotros.

Then said the trees unto the vine, Come thou, and reign over us.

“The trees said to the vine, ‘Come and reign over us.’

La vigne leur répondit: "Quoi! je renoncerais à mon jus, qui réjouit Dieu et les hommes, pour me fatiguer à gouverner les arbres?"

Y la vid les respondió: ¿Tengo de dejar mi mosto, que alegra á Dios y á los hombres, por ir á ser grande sobre los árboles?

And the vine said unto them, Should I leave my wine, which cheereth God and man, and go to be promoted over the trees?

“The vine said to them, ‘Should I leave my new wine, which cheers God and man, and go to wave back and forth over the trees?’

Alors les arbres dirent ensemble au buisson d’épines: "Viens donc, toi, et règne sur nous."

Dijeron entonces todos los árboles al escaramujo: Anda tú, reina sobre nosotros.

Then said all the trees unto the bramble, Come thou, and reign over us.

“Then all the trees said to the bramble, ‘Come and reign over us.’

Et le buisson répondit aux arbres: "Si c’est de bonne foi que vous m’élisez pour votre roi, venez vous abriter sous mon ombre; sinon, qu’un feu sorte du buisson, et dévore les cèdres du Liban!

Y el escaramujo respondió á los árboles: Si en verdad me elegís por rey sobre vosotros, venid, y aseguraos debajo de mi sombra: y si no, fuego salga del escaramujo que devore los cedros del Líbano.

And the bramble said unto the trees, If in truth ye anoint me king over you, then come and put your trust in my shadow: and if not, let fire come out of the bramble, and devour the cedars of Lebanon.

“The bramble said to the trees, ‘If in truth you anoint me king over you, then come and take refuge in my shade; and if not, let fire come out of the bramble, and devour the cedars of Lebanon.’

Et maintenant, vous aussi, si vous avez agi avec sincérité et loyauté en faisant roi Abimélec; si vous avez bien agi envers Jérubbaal et sa famille, agi en hommes reconnaissants de ses services…

Ahora pues, si con verdad y con integridad habéis procedido en hacer rey á Abimelech, y si lo habéis hecho bien con Jerobaal y con su casa, y si le habéis pagado conforme á la obra de sus manos;

Now therefore, if ye have done truly and sincerely, in that ye have made Abimelech king, and if ye have dealt well with Jerubbaal and his house, and have done unto him according to the deserving of his hands;

Car mon père a combattu pour vous, il a fait bon marché de sa vie, vous a délivrés du pouvoir de Madian.

(Pues que mi padre peleó por vosotros, y echó lejos su vida por libraros de mano de Madián;

(For my father fought for you, and adventured his life far, and delivered you out of the hand of Midian:

Et vous, vous vous êtes rués sur la maison de mon père, vous avez tué ses fils au nombre de soixante-dix hommes sur une même pierre, et aujourd’hui vous donnez Abimélec, le fils de sa servante, pour roi aux citoyens de Sichem, parce qu’il est votre frère.

Y vosotros os levantasteis hoy contra la casa de mi padre, y matasteis sus hijos, setenta varones, sobre una piedra; y habéis puesto por rey sobre los de Sichêm á Abimelech, hijo de su criada, por cuanto es vuestro hermano:)

Si donc vous avez, en ce jour, honnêtement agi envers Jérubbaal et sa famille, grand bien vous fasse d’Abimélec et grand bien lui fasse de vous!

Si con verdad y con integridad habéis obrado hoy con Jerobaal y con su casa, que gocéis de Abimelech, y él goce de vosotros.

If ye then have dealt truly and sincerely with Jerubbaal and with his house this day, then rejoice ye in Abimelech, and let him also rejoice in you:

if you then have dealt truly and righteously with Jerubbaal and with his house today, then rejoice in Abimelech, and let him also rejoice in you;

Sinon, qu’un feu sorte d’Abimélec pour dévorer les Sichémites et la maison de Millo, et qu’un feu sorte des Sichémites et de la maison de Millo pour consumer Abimélec!"

Y si no, fuego salga de Abimelech, que consuma á los de Sichêm y á la casa de Millo; y fuego salga de los de Sichêm y de la casa de Millo, que consuma á Abimelech.

But if not, let fire come out from Abimelech, and devour the men of Shechem, and the house of Millo; and let fire come out from the men of Shechem, and from the house of Millo, and devour Abimelech.

Là-dessus, Jotham s’enfuit et alla se réfugier à Beêr, où il s’établit pour échapper à son frère Abimélec.

lorsque Dieu suscita un mauvais esprit entre lui et les bourgeois de Sichem, et ceux-ci devinrent infidèles à Abimélec;

Then God sent an evil spirit between Abimelech and the men of Shechem; and the men of Shechem dealt treacherously with Abimelech:

Para que el agravio de los setenta hijos de Jerobaal, y la sangre de ellos, viniera á ponerse sobre Abimelech su hermano que los mató, y sobre los hombres de Sichêm que corroboraron las manos de él para matar á sus hermanos.

That the cruelty done to the threescore and ten sons of Jerubbaal might come, and their blood be laid upon Abimelech their brother, which slew them; and upon the men of Shechem, which aided him in the killing of his brethren.

Les bourgeois de Sichem postèrent contre lui, au sommet des montagnes, des embuscades, qui faisaient main-basse sur tous les voyageurs; et Abimélec en fut informé.

Cependant, Gaal, fils d’Ebed, vint à passer par Sichem avec ses frères; il gagna la confiance des bourgeois de Sichem.

Y Gaal hijo de Ebed dijo: ¿Quién es Abimelech y qué es Sichêm, para que nosotros á él sirvamos? ¿no es hijo de Jerobaal? ¿y no es Zebul su asistente? Servid á los varones de Hemor padre de Sichêm: mas ¿por qué habíamos de servir á él?

And Gaal the son of Ebed said, Who is Abimelech, and who is Shechem, that we should serve him? is not he the son of Jerubbaal? and Zebul his officer? serve the men of Hamor the father of Shechem: for why should we serve him?

Ah! si j’avais ce peuple sous la main, j’aurais bientôt écarté Abimélec!" Et apostrophant Abimélec: "Augmente ton armée, et avance!..."

Fuérame dado este pueblo bajo de mi mano, yo echaría luego á Abimelech. Y decía á Abimelech: Aumenta tus escuadrones, y sal.

And would to God this people were under my hand! then would I remove Abimelech. And he said to Abimelech, Increase thine army, and come out.

Zeboul, gouverneur de la ville, ayant eu connaissance des propos de Gaal, fils d’Ebed, s’enflamma de colère,

Y Zebul asistente de la ciudad, oyendo las palabras de Gaal hijo de Ebed, encendióse su ira;

And when Zebul the ruler of the city heard the words of Gaal the son of Ebed, his anger was kindled.

et il envoya sous main des exprès à Abimélec, pour lui dire: "Sache que Gaal, fils d’Ebed, et ses frères sont venus à Sichem, et ils ameutent la ville contre toi.

Y envió sagazmente mensajeros á Abimelech, diciendo: He aquí que Gaal hijo de Ebed y sus hermanos han venido á Sichêm, y he aquí, que han cercado la ciudad contra ti.

And he sent messengers unto Abimelech privily, saying, Behold, Gaal the son of Ebed and his brethren be come to Shechem; and, behold, they fortify the city against thee.

Donc lève-toi cette nuit, avec les hommes dont tu disposes, et embusque-toi dans la campagne;

et demain de bonne heure, aux premiers rayons du soleil, tu te déploieras autour de la ville. Lui alors marchera à ta rencontre avec le peuple qui le suit, et tu lui feras ce que tu pourras lui faire."

Y por la mañana al salir del sol te levantarás y acometerás la ciudad: y él y el pueblo que está con él saldrán contra ti, y tu harás con él según que se te ofrecerá.

And it shall be, that in the morning, as soon as the sun is up, thou shalt rise early, and set upon the city: and, behold, when he and the people that is with him come out against thee, then mayest thou do to them as thou shalt find occasion.

Abimélec se mit en mouvement avec tous ses hommes, la nuit suivante, et ils s’embusquèrent près de Sichem en quatre fractions.

And when Gaal saw the people, he said to Zebul, Behold, there come people down from the top of the mountains. And Zebul said unto him, Thou seest the shadow of the mountains as if they were men.

Et Gaal insista en disant: "Je vois du monde descendre de la hauteur centrale, et une fraction s’avancer par le chemin du Chêne des Augures."

Mas Gaal tornó á hablar, y dijo: He allí pueblo que desciende por medio de la tierra, y un escuadrón viene camino de la campiña de Meonenim.

And Gaal spake again and said, See there come people down by the middle of the land, and another company come along by the plain of Meonenim.

Alors Zeboul lui dit: "Qu’est devenu ton fier langage, toi qui disais: Qu’est-ce qu’Abimélec pour que nous le servions? Eh bien! le voilà ce peuple que tu dédaignais; va maintenant et mesure-toi avec lui!"

Y Zebul le respondió: ¿Dónde está ahora aquel tu hablar, diciendo: Quién es Abimelech para que le sirvamos? ¿No es este el pueblo que tenías en poco? Sal pues ahora, y pelea con él.

Then said Zebul unto him, Where is now thy mouth, wherewith thou saidst, Who is Abimelech, that we should serve him? is not this the people that thou hast despised? go out, I pray now, and fight with them.

Then Zebul said to him, “Now where is your mouth, that you said, ‘Who is Abimelech, that we should serve him?’ Isn’t this the people that you have despised? Please go out now and fight with them.”

Gaal s’avança à la tête des bourgeois de Sichem, et engagea le combat avec Abimélec.

Le lendemain, le peuple se répandit dans la campagne, et Abimélec en fut informé.
