Jeremías 11

1Luego volvió el Señor a hablarle a Jeremías:
2Recuérdales a los habitantes de Judá y a todo el pueblo de Jerusalén que yo firmé un contrato con sus antepasados, ¡y maldito sea quien no lo respete!
3—
4Pues cuando los liberé de la esclavitud de Egipto les dije que si me obedecían y hacían cuanto yo les mandara, ellos y sus descendientes me pertenecerían y yo sería su Dios.
5Ahora pues, Israel, obedéceme, dice el Señor, para que pueda hacer por ti también las admirables obras que juré realizar por ti si me obedecías. Quiero darte una tierra de la que «fluye leche y miel», es decir, muy próspera, tal como es hoy día. Entonces respondí: «¡Así sea, Señor!».
6Luego el Señor dijo: Comunica este mensaje por las calles de Jerusalén; ve de ciudad en ciudad por todo el país y diles: Acuérdense de este convenio que sus antepasados establecieron con Dios, y hagan todo lo que ellos le prometieron.
7Porque solemnemente dije a sus antepasados cuando los saqué de Egipto, y he continuado repitiéndolo hasta este día: ¡Obedezcan todas mis instrucciones establecidas en el convenio!
8Pero sus antepasados no lo hicieron, ni siquiera se dignaron poner atención a lo que les decía. Cada uno hizo lo que le dio la gana, guiado por su terquedad. Y como se negaron a obedecer, les apliqué los castigos estipulados en el convenio.
9Volvió a hablarme el Señor y dijo: He descubierto entre los hombres de Judá y Jerusalén una conspiración contra mí.
10Han vuelto a cometer las mismas faltas de sus antepasados, se niegan a seguir mis instrucciones y ofrecen homenaje a los ídolos. El convenio que establecí con sus antepasados queda roto y sin validez.
11Por lo tanto, dice el Señor, dejaré que caigan desgracias sobre ellos y no escaparán. Por más que se quejen de su mal, no atenderé sus súplicas.
12¡Que vayan a rogarles a sus ídolos y a quedar bien con ellos ofreciéndoles agradables perfumes! ¡Entonces se darán cuenta de lo incapaces que son esos ídolos de salvarlos!
13¡Oh pueblo mío, tienen tantos ídolos como ciudades, y sus altares de vergüenza! ¡Hay altares para rendirle homenaje al ídolo Baal por todas las calles de Jerusalén!
14Por tanto, Jeremías, no intercedas más por este pueblo, ni llores ni supliques por ellos, porque no los escucharé cuando finalmente en su desesperación clamen pidiéndome ayuda.
15¿Qué derecho tiene mi pueblo para seguir acudiendo a mi templo? Porque han sido infieles adorando otros dioses. ¿Podrán ahora las promesas y los sacrificios desviar el castigo que les espera y volver a contar con vida y alegría?
16Eran como lozanos olivos para el Señor, se veían muy hermosos y estaban siempre llenos de buen fruto. Pero ahora el Señor ha enviado contra ellos la furia de sus enemigos para prenderles fuego y dejarlos convertidos en ramajes humeantes.
17Por la maldad de Israel y Judá al ofrecerle agradables perfumes como homenaje a Baal es que el Señor de los ejércitos, quien plantó el olivo, también ha determinado su ruina.
18Lo sé porque el Señor me contó los planes de ellos y me mostró sus intrigas.
19Yo había estado tan confiado como oveja o buey camino del matadero, que no sabe lo que le espera. ¡No sabía que tramaban mi muerte! «Acabemos con este hombre y todos sus mensajes», decían, «matémoslo para que de él no quede ni el recuerdo».
20¡Oh Señor de los ejércitos, tú eres justo, tú conoces los pensamientos e intenciones de la gente! Fíjate en el corazón y los móviles de estos hombres. Dales su merecido por todos sus planes. De ti espero justicia.
21Y el Señor respondió: Los hombres de la ciudad de Anatot serán castigados por planear tu muerte. Bajo amenaza de muerte te ordenarán que no profetices en el nombre de Dios. Por ello, sus muchachos morirán en batalla, sus niños y niñas morirán de hambre.
22—
23¡Ni uno de estos conspiradores de Anatot escapará con vida, porque sobre ellos traeré una desgracia espantosa! ¡Ya les llegará su hora!

1PALABRA que fué de Jehová, á Jeremías, diciendo:
2Oid las palabras de este pacto, y hablad á todo varón de Judá, y á todo morador de Jerusalem.
3Y les dirás tú: Así dijo Jehová Dios de Israel: Maldito el varón que no obedeciere las palabras de este pacto,
4El cual mandé á vuestros padres el día que los saqué de la tierra de Egipto, del horno de hierro, diciéndoles: Oid mi voz, y ejecutad aquéllas, conforme á todo lo que os mando, y me seréis por pueblo, y yo seré á vosotros por Dios;
5Para que confirme el juramento que hice á vuestros padres, que les daría la tierra que corre leche y miel, como este día. Y respondí, y dije: Amén, oh Jehová.
6Y Jehová me dijo: Pregona todas estas palabras en las ciudades de Judá y en las calles de Jerusalem, diciendo: Oid las palabras de este pacto, y ponedlas por obra.
7Porque con eficacia protesté á vuestros padres el día que los hice subir de la tierra de Egipto hasta el día de hoy, madrugando y protestando, diciendo: Oid mi voz.
8Mas no oyeron, ni inclinaron su oído, antes se fueron cada uno tras la imaginación de su corazón malvado: por tanto, traeré sobre ellos todas las palabras de este pacto, el cual mandé que cumpliesen, y no lo cumplieron.
9Y díjome Jehová: Conjuración se ha hallado en los varones de Judá, y en los moradores de Jerusalem.
10Hanse vuelto á las maldades de sus primeros padres, los cuales no quisieron escuchar mis palabras, antes se fueron tras dioses ajenos para servirles; la casa de Israel y la casa de Judá invalidaron mi pacto, el cual había yo concertado con sus padres.
11Por tanto, así ha dicho Jehová: He aquí yo traigo sobre ellos mal del que no podrán salir; y clamarán á mí, y no los oiré.
12E irán las ciudades de Judá y los moradores de Jerusalem, y clamarán á los dioses á quienes queman ellos inciensos, los cuales no los podrán salvar en el tiempo de su mal.
13Porque según el número de tus ciudades fueron tus dioses, oh Judá; y según el número de tus calles, oh Jerusalem, pusisteis los altares de ignominia, altares para ofrecer sahumerios á Baal.
14Tú pues, no ores por este pueblo, ni levantes por ellos clamor ni oración; porque yo no oiré el día que en su aflicción á mí clamaren.
15¿Qué tiene mi amado en mi casa, habiendo hecho abominaciones muchas? Y las carnes santas pasarán de sobre ti, porque en tu maldad te gloriaste.
16Oliva verde, hermosa en fruto y en parecer, llamó Jehová tu nombre. A la voz de gran palabra hizo encender fuego sobre ella, y quebraron sus ramas.
17Pues Jehová de los ejércitos, que te plantó, ha pronunciado mal contra ti, á causa de la maldad de la casa de Israel y de la casa de Judá, que hicieron á sí mismos, provocándome á ira con incensar á Baal.
18Y Jehová me lo hizo saber, y conocílo: entonces me hiciste ver sus obras.
19Y yo como cordero inocente que llevan á degollar, pues no entendía que maquinaban contra mí designios, diciendo: Destruyamos el árbol con su fruto, y cortémoslo de la tierra de los vivientes, y no haya más memoria de su nombre.
20Mas, oh Jehová de los ejércitos, que juzgas justicia, que sondas los riñones y el corazón, vea yo tu venganza de ellos: porque á ti he descubierto mi causa.
21Por tanto, así ha dicho Jehová de los varones de Anathoth, que buscan tu alma, diciendo: No profetices en nombre de Jehová, y no morirás á nuestras manos:
22Así pues ha dicho Jehová de los ejércitos: He aquí que yo los visito; los mancebos morirán á cuchillo; sus hijos y sus hijas morirán de hambre;
23Y no quedará resto de ellos: porque yo traeré mal sobre los varones de Anathoth, año de su visitación.

1The word that came to Jeremiah from the LORD, saying,
2Hear ye the words of this covenant, and speak unto the men of Judah, and to the inhabitants of Jerusalem;
3And say thou unto them, Thus saith the LORD God of Israel; Cursed be the man that obeyeth not the words of this covenant,
4Which I commanded your fathers in the day that I brought them forth out of the land of Egypt, from the iron furnace, saying, Obey my voice, and do them, according to all which I command you: so shall ye be my people, and I will be your God:
5That I may perform the oath which I have sworn unto your fathers, to give them a land flowing with milk and honey, as it is this day. Then answered I, and said, So be it, O LORD.
6Then the LORD said unto me, Proclaim all these words in the cities of Judah, and in the streets of Jerusalem, saying, Hear ye the words of this covenant, and do them.
7For I earnestly protested unto your fathers in the day that I brought them up out of the land of Egypt, even unto this day, rising early and protesting, saying, Obey my voice.
8Yet they obeyed not, nor inclined their ear, but walked every one in the imagination of their evil heart: therefore I will bring upon them all the words of this covenant, which I commanded them to do; but they did them not.
9And the LORD said unto me, A conspiracy is found among the men of Judah, and among the inhabitants of Jerusalem.
10They are turned back to the iniquities of their forefathers, which refused to hear my words; and they went after other gods to serve them: the house of Israel and the house of Judah have broken my covenant which I made with their fathers.
11Therefore thus saith the LORD, Behold, I will bring evil upon them, which they shall not be able to escape; and though they shall cry unto me, I will not hearken unto them.
12Then shall the cities of Judah and inhabitants of Jerusalem go, and cry unto the gods unto whom they offer incense: but they shall not save them at all in the time of their trouble.
13For according to the number of thy cities were thy gods, O Judah; and according to the number of the streets of Jerusalem have ye set up altars to that shameful thing, even altars to burn incense unto Baal.
14Therefore pray not thou for this people, neither lift up a cry or prayer for them: for I will not hear them in the time that they cry unto me for their trouble.
15What hath my beloved to do in mine house, seeing she hath wrought lewdness with many, and the holy flesh is passed from thee? when thou doest evil, then thou rejoicest.
16The LORD called thy name, A green olive tree, fair, and of goodly fruit: with the noise of a great tumult he hath kindled fire upon it, and the branches of it are broken.
17For the LORD of hosts, that planted thee, hath pronounced evil against thee, for the evil of the house of Israel and of the house of Judah, which they have done against themselves to provoke me to anger in offering incense unto Baal.
18And the LORD hath given me knowledge of it, and I know it: then thou shewedst me their doings.
19But I was like a lamb or an ox that is brought to the slaughter; and I knew not that they had devised devices against me, saying, Let us destroy the tree with the fruit thereof, and let us cut him off from the land of the living, that his name may be no more remembered.
20But, O LORD of hosts, that judgest righteously, that triest the reins and the heart, let me see thy vengeance on them: for unto thee have I revealed my cause.
21Therefore thus saith the LORD of the men of Anathoth, that seek thy life, saying, Prophesy not in the name of the LORD, that thou die not by our hand:
22Therefore thus saith the LORD of hosts, Behold, I will punish them: the young men shall die by the sword; their sons and their daughters shall die by famine:
23And there shall be no remnant of them: for I will bring evil upon the men of Anathoth, even the year of their visitation.

1The word that came to Jeremiah from the LORD, saying,
2“Hear the words of this covenant, and speak to the men of Judah, and to the inhabitants of Jerusalem;
3and say to them, the LORD, the God of Israel says: ‘Cursed is the man who doesn’t hear the words of this covenant,
4which I commanded your fathers in the day that I brought them out of the land of Egypt, out of the iron furnace,’ saying, ‘Obey my voice and do them, according to all which I command you; so you shall be my people, and I will be your God;
5that I may establish the oath which I swore to your fathers, to give them a land flowing with milk and honey,’ as it is today.” Then I answered, and said, “Amen, LORD.”
6The LORD said to me, “Proclaim all these words in the cities of Judah, and in the streets of Jerusalem, saying, ‘Hear the words of this covenant, and do them.
7For I earnestly protested to your fathers in the day that I brought them up out of the land of Egypt, even to this day, rising early and protesting, saying, “Obey my voice.”
8Yet they didn’t obey, nor turn their ear, but everyone walked in the stubbornness of their evil heart. Therefore I brought on them all the words of this covenant, which I commanded them to do, but they didn’t do them.’”
9The LORD said to me, “A conspiracy is found among the men of Judah, and among the inhabitants of Jerusalem.
10They have turned back to the iniquities of their forefathers, who refused to hear my words. They have gone after other gods to serve them. The house of Israel and the house of Judah have broken my covenant which I made with their fathers.
11Therefore the LORD says, ‘Behold, I will bring evil on them which they will not be able to escape; and they will cry to me, but I will not listen to them.
12Then the cities of Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem will go and cry to the gods to which they offer incense, but they will not save them at all in the time of their trouble.

14“Therefore don’t pray for this people. Don’t lift up cry or prayer for them; for I will not hear them in the time that they cry to me because of their trouble.
15What has my beloved to do in my house, since she has behaved lewdly with many, and the holy flesh has passed from you? When you do evil, then you rejoice.”
16The LORD called your name, “A green olive tree, beautiful with goodly fruit.” With the noise of a great roar he has kindled fire on it, and its branches are broken.
17For the LORD of Armies, who planted you, has pronounced evil against you, because of the evil of the house of Israel and of the house of Judah, which they have done to themselves in provoking me to anger by offering incense to Baal.
18The LORD gave me knowledge of it, and I knew it. Then you showed me their doings.
19But I was like a gentle lamb that is led to the slaughter. I didn’t know that they had devised plans against me, saying, “Let’s destroy the tree with its fruit, and let’s cut him off from the land of the living, that his name may be no more remembered.”
20But, LORD of Armies, who judges righteously, who tests the heart and the mind, I will see your vengeance on them; for to you I have revealed my cause.
21“Therefore the LORD says concerning the men of Anathoth, who seek your life, saying, ‘You shall not prophesy in the LORD’s name, that you not die by our hand’—
22therefore the LORD of Armies says, ‘Behold, I will punish them. The young men will die by the sword. Their sons and their daughters will die by famine.
23There will be no remnant to them, for I will bring evil on the men of Anathoth, even the year of their visitation.’”
