Jeremías 11

1La parola che fu rivolta a Geremia da parte dell’Eterno, in questi termini:
2“Ascoltate le parole di questo patto, e parlate agli uomini di Giuda e agli abitanti di Gerusalemme!
3Di’ loro: Così parla l’Eterno, l’Iddio d’Israele: Maledetto l’uomo che non ascolta le parole di questo patto,
4che io comandai ai vostri padri il giorno che li feci uscire dal paese d’Egitto, dalla fornace di ferro, dicendo: Ascoltate la mia voce e fate tutto quello che vi comanderò, e voi sarete mio popolo e io sarò vostro Dio,
5affinché io possa mantenere il giuramento che feci ai vostri padri, di dar loro un paese dove scorre il latte e il miele, come oggi vedete ch’esso è”. Allora io risposi: “Amen, o Eterno!”
6L’Eterno mi disse: “Proclama tutte queste parole nelle città di Giuda e per le strade di Gerusalemme, dicendo: Ascoltate le parole di questo patto, e mettetele ad effetto!
7Poiché io ho scongiurato i vostri padri dal giorno che li trassi fuori dal paese d’Egitto fino a questo giorno, li ho scongiurati fin dal mattino, dicendo: Ascoltate la mia voce!
8Ma essi non l’hanno ascoltata, non hanno prestato orecchio, e hanno camminato, seguendo ciascuno la caparbietà del loro cuore malvagio; perciò io ho fatto venir su loro tutto quello che avevo detto in quel patto che io avevo comandato loro d’osservare, e ch’essi non hanno osservato”.
9Poi l’Eterno mi disse: “Esiste una congiura fra gli uomini di Giuda e fra gli abitanti di Gerusalemme.
10Son tornati alle iniquità dei loro padri antichi, i quali ricusarono di ascoltare le mie parole; e sono andati anch’essi dietro ad altri dèi, per servirli; la casa d’Israele e la casa di Giuda hanno rotto il patto, che io avevo fatto coi loro padri.
11Perciò, così parla l’Eterno: Ecco, io faccio venir su loro una calamità, alla quale non potranno sfuggire. Essi grideranno a me, ma io non li ascolterò.
12Allora le città di Giuda e gli abitanti di Gerusalemme andranno a gridare agli dèi ai quali offron profumi; ma essi non li salveranno, nel tempo della calamità!
13Poiché, o Giuda, tu hai tanti dèi quante sono le tue città; e quante sono le strade di Gerusalemme, tanti altari avete eretti all’infamia, altari per offrir profumi a Baal.
14E tu non pregare per questo popolo, non ti mettere a gridare né a far supplicazioni per loro; perché io non li esaudirò quando grideranno a me a motivo della calamità che li avrà colpiti.
15Che ha da fare l’amato mio nella mia casa? Delle scelleratezze? Forse che dei voti e della carne consacrata allontaneranno da te la calamità perché tu possa rallegrarti?
16L’Eterno t’aveva chiamato “Ulivo verdeggiante, adorno di bei frutti”. Al rumore di un gran tumulto, egli v’appicca il fuoco e i rami ne sono infranti.
17L’Eterno degli eserciti che t’avea piantato pronunzia del male contro di te, a motivo della malvagità commessa a loro danno dalla casa d’Israele e dalla casa di Giuda allorché m’hanno provocato ad ira, offrendo profumi a Baal”.
18L’Eterno me l’ha fatto sapere, ed io l’ho saputo; allora tu m’hai mostrato le loro azioni.
19Io ero come un docile agnello che si mena al macello; io non sapevo che ordissero macchinazioni contro di me dicendo: Distruggiamo l’albero col suo frutto e sterminiamolo dalla terra de’ viventi; affinché il suo nome non sia più ricordato”.
20Ma, o Eterno degli eserciti, giusto giudice, che scruti le reni ed il cuore, io vedrò la tua vendetta su di loro, poiché a te io rimetto la mia causa.
21Perciò, così parla l’Eterno riguardo a que’ di Anatoth, che cercan la tua vita e dicono: “Non profetare nel nome dell’Eterno, se non vuoi morire per le nostre mani”;
22perciò, così parla l’Eterno degli eserciti: Ecco, io sto per punirli; i giovani morranno per la spada, i loro figliuoli e le loro figliuole morranno di fame;
23e non resterà di loro alcun residuo; poiché io farò venire la calamità su quei d’Anatoth, l’anno in cui li visiterò.

1PALABRA que fué de Jehová, á Jeremías, diciendo:
2Oid las palabras de este pacto, y hablad á todo varón de Judá, y á todo morador de Jerusalem.
3Y les dirás tú: Así dijo Jehová Dios de Israel: Maldito el varón que no obedeciere las palabras de este pacto,
4El cual mandé á vuestros padres el día que los saqué de la tierra de Egipto, del horno de hierro, diciéndoles: Oid mi voz, y ejecutad aquéllas, conforme á todo lo que os mando, y me seréis por pueblo, y yo seré á vosotros por Dios;
5Para que confirme el juramento que hice á vuestros padres, que les daría la tierra que corre leche y miel, como este día. Y respondí, y dije: Amén, oh Jehová.
6Y Jehová me dijo: Pregona todas estas palabras en las ciudades de Judá y en las calles de Jerusalem, diciendo: Oid las palabras de este pacto, y ponedlas por obra.
7Porque con eficacia protesté á vuestros padres el día que los hice subir de la tierra de Egipto hasta el día de hoy, madrugando y protestando, diciendo: Oid mi voz.
8Mas no oyeron, ni inclinaron su oído, antes se fueron cada uno tras la imaginación de su corazón malvado: por tanto, traeré sobre ellos todas las palabras de este pacto, el cual mandé que cumpliesen, y no lo cumplieron.
9Y díjome Jehová: Conjuración se ha hallado en los varones de Judá, y en los moradores de Jerusalem.
10Hanse vuelto á las maldades de sus primeros padres, los cuales no quisieron escuchar mis palabras, antes se fueron tras dioses ajenos para servirles; la casa de Israel y la casa de Judá invalidaron mi pacto, el cual había yo concertado con sus padres.
11Por tanto, así ha dicho Jehová: He aquí yo traigo sobre ellos mal del que no podrán salir; y clamarán á mí, y no los oiré.
12E irán las ciudades de Judá y los moradores de Jerusalem, y clamarán á los dioses á quienes queman ellos inciensos, los cuales no los podrán salvar en el tiempo de su mal.
13Porque según el número de tus ciudades fueron tus dioses, oh Judá; y según el número de tus calles, oh Jerusalem, pusisteis los altares de ignominia, altares para ofrecer sahumerios á Baal.
14Tú pues, no ores por este pueblo, ni levantes por ellos clamor ni oración; porque yo no oiré el día que en su aflicción á mí clamaren.
15¿Qué tiene mi amado en mi casa, habiendo hecho abominaciones muchas? Y las carnes santas pasarán de sobre ti, porque en tu maldad te gloriaste.
16Oliva verde, hermosa en fruto y en parecer, llamó Jehová tu nombre. A la voz de gran palabra hizo encender fuego sobre ella, y quebraron sus ramas.
17Pues Jehová de los ejércitos, que te plantó, ha pronunciado mal contra ti, á causa de la maldad de la casa de Israel y de la casa de Judá, que hicieron á sí mismos, provocándome á ira con incensar á Baal.
18Y Jehová me lo hizo saber, y conocílo: entonces me hiciste ver sus obras.
19Y yo como cordero inocente que llevan á degollar, pues no entendía que maquinaban contra mí designios, diciendo: Destruyamos el árbol con su fruto, y cortémoslo de la tierra de los vivientes, y no haya más memoria de su nombre.
20Mas, oh Jehová de los ejércitos, que juzgas justicia, que sondas los riñones y el corazón, vea yo tu venganza de ellos: porque á ti he descubierto mi causa.
21Por tanto, así ha dicho Jehová de los varones de Anathoth, que buscan tu alma, diciendo: No profetices en nombre de Jehová, y no morirás á nuestras manos:
22Así pues ha dicho Jehová de los ejércitos: He aquí que yo los visito; los mancebos morirán á cuchillo; sus hijos y sus hijas morirán de hambre;
23Y no quedará resto de ellos: porque yo traeré mal sobre los varones de Anathoth, año de su visitación.

1The word that came to Jeremiah from the LORD, saying,
2Hear ye the words of this covenant, and speak unto the men of Judah, and to the inhabitants of Jerusalem;
3And say thou unto them, Thus saith the LORD God of Israel; Cursed be the man that obeyeth not the words of this covenant,
4Which I commanded your fathers in the day that I brought them forth out of the land of Egypt, from the iron furnace, saying, Obey my voice, and do them, according to all which I command you: so shall ye be my people, and I will be your God:
5That I may perform the oath which I have sworn unto your fathers, to give them a land flowing with milk and honey, as it is this day. Then answered I, and said, So be it, O LORD.
6Then the LORD said unto me, Proclaim all these words in the cities of Judah, and in the streets of Jerusalem, saying, Hear ye the words of this covenant, and do them.
7For I earnestly protested unto your fathers in the day that I brought them up out of the land of Egypt, even unto this day, rising early and protesting, saying, Obey my voice.
8Yet they obeyed not, nor inclined their ear, but walked every one in the imagination of their evil heart: therefore I will bring upon them all the words of this covenant, which I commanded them to do; but they did them not.
9And the LORD said unto me, A conspiracy is found among the men of Judah, and among the inhabitants of Jerusalem.
10They are turned back to the iniquities of their forefathers, which refused to hear my words; and they went after other gods to serve them: the house of Israel and the house of Judah have broken my covenant which I made with their fathers.
11Therefore thus saith the LORD, Behold, I will bring evil upon them, which they shall not be able to escape; and though they shall cry unto me, I will not hearken unto them.
12Then shall the cities of Judah and inhabitants of Jerusalem go, and cry unto the gods unto whom they offer incense: but they shall not save them at all in the time of their trouble.
13For according to the number of thy cities were thy gods, O Judah; and according to the number of the streets of Jerusalem have ye set up altars to that shameful thing, even altars to burn incense unto Baal.
14Therefore pray not thou for this people, neither lift up a cry or prayer for them: for I will not hear them in the time that they cry unto me for their trouble.
15What hath my beloved to do in mine house, seeing she hath wrought lewdness with many, and the holy flesh is passed from thee? when thou doest evil, then thou rejoicest.
16The LORD called thy name, A green olive tree, fair, and of goodly fruit: with the noise of a great tumult he hath kindled fire upon it, and the branches of it are broken.
17For the LORD of hosts, that planted thee, hath pronounced evil against thee, for the evil of the house of Israel and of the house of Judah, which they have done against themselves to provoke me to anger in offering incense unto Baal.
18And the LORD hath given me knowledge of it, and I know it: then thou shewedst me their doings.
19But I was like a lamb or an ox that is brought to the slaughter; and I knew not that they had devised devices against me, saying, Let us destroy the tree with the fruit thereof, and let us cut him off from the land of the living, that his name may be no more remembered.
20But, O LORD of hosts, that judgest righteously, that triest the reins and the heart, let me see thy vengeance on them: for unto thee have I revealed my cause.
21Therefore thus saith the LORD of the men of Anathoth, that seek thy life, saying, Prophesy not in the name of the LORD, that thou die not by our hand:
22Therefore thus saith the LORD of hosts, Behold, I will punish them: the young men shall die by the sword; their sons and their daughters shall die by famine:
23And there shall be no remnant of them: for I will bring evil upon the men of Anathoth, even the year of their visitation.

3and say to them, the LORD, the God of Israel says: ‘Cursed is the man who doesn’t hear the words of this covenant,
4which I commanded your fathers in the day that I brought them out of the land of Egypt, out of the iron furnace,’ saying, ‘Obey my voice and do them, according to all which I command you; so you shall be my people, and I will be your God;
5that I may establish the oath which I swore to your fathers, to give them a land flowing with milk and honey,’ as it is today.” Then I answered, and said, “Amen, LORD.”

16The LORD called your name, “A green olive tree, beautiful with goodly fruit.” With the noise of a great roar he has kindled fire on it, and its branches are broken.
17For the LORD of Armies, who planted you, has pronounced evil against you, because of the evil of the house of Israel and of the house of Judah, which they have done to themselves in provoking me to anger by offering incense to Baal.
18The LORD gave me knowledge of it, and I knew it. Then you showed me their doings.
19But I was like a gentle lamb that is led to the slaughter. I didn’t know that they had devised plans against me, saying, “Let’s destroy the tree with its fruit, and let’s cut him off from the land of the living, that his name may be no more remembered.”
20But, LORD of Armies, who judges righteously, who tests the heart and the mind, I will see your vengeance on them; for to you I have revealed my cause.
21“Therefore the LORD says concerning the men of Anathoth, who seek your life, saying, ‘You shall not prophesy in the LORD’s name, that you not die by our hand’—
22therefore the LORD of Armies says, ‘Behold, I will punish them. The young men will die by the sword. Their sons and their daughters will die by famine.
23There will be no remnant to them, for I will bring evil on the men of Anathoth, even the year of their visitation.’”
