El Señor me habló de esta manera: Ve y cómprate una faja de lino, y cíñete con ella, y no dejes que toque el agua.
ASÍ me dijo Jehová: Ve, y cómprate un cinto de lino, y cíñelo sobre tus lomos, y no lo meterás en agua.
Thus saith the LORD unto me, Go and get thee a linen girdle, and put it upon thy loins, and put it not in water.
The LORD said to me, “Go, and buy yourself a linen belt, and put it on your waist, and don’t put it in water.”
Compré, pues, la faja, según la orden del Señor, y me la ceñí al cuerpo por la cintura.
Y compré el cinto conforme á la palabra de Jehová, y púselo sobre mis lomos.
So I got a girdle according to the word of the LORD, and put it on my loins.
So I bought a belt according to the LORD’s word, and put it on my waist.
Y me habló de nuevo el Señor, diciendo:
Y fué á mí segunda vez palabra de Jehová, diciendo:

Quítate la faja que compraste y tienes ceñida sobre los lomos, y marcha, y ve al Eufrates, y escóndela allí en el agujero de una peña.
Toma el cinto que compraste, que está sobre tus lomos, y levántate, y ve al Eufrates, y escóndelo allá en la concavidad de una peña.
Take the girdle that thou hast got, which is upon thy loins, and arise, go to Euphrates, and hide it there in a hole of the rock.
“Take the belt that you have bought, which is on your waist, and arise, go to the Euphrates, and hide it there in a cleft of the rock.”
Marché, pues, y la escondí junto al Eufrates, como el Señor me lo había ordenado.
Fuí pues, y escondílo junto al Eufrates, como Jehová me mandó.
So I went, and hid it by Euphrates, as the LORD commanded me.

Pasados muchos días, me dijo el Señor: Anda y ve al Eufrates, y toma la faja que yo te mandé que escondieras allí.
Y sucedió que al cabo de muchos días me dijo Jehová: Levántate, y ve al Eufrates, y toma de allí el cinto que te mandé escondieses allá.
And it came to pass after many days, that the LORD said unto me, Arise, go to Euphrates, and take the girdle from thence, which I commanded thee to hide there.
After many days, the LORD said to me, “Arise, go to the Euphrates, and take the belt from there, which I commanded you to hide there.”
Fui, pues, al Eufrates, y abrí el agujero, y saqué la faja del lugar en que la había escondido, y hallé que estaba ya podrida, de suerte que no era útil para uso alguno.
Entonces fuí al Eufrates, y cavé, y tomé el cinto del lugar donde lo había escondido; y he aquí que el cinto se había podrido; para ninguna cosa era bueno.
Then I went to Euphrates, and digged, and took the girdle from the place where I had hid it: and, behold, the girdle was marred, it was profitable for nothing.

Entonces me habló el Señor, diciendo:

Esto dice el Señor: Así haré yo que se pudra la soberbia de Judá y el gran orgullo de Jerusalén .

Thus saith the LORD, After this manner will I mar the pride of Judah, and the great pride of Jerusalem.
“The LORD says, ‘In this way I will ruin the pride of Judah, and the great pride of Jerusalem.
Esta pésima gente, que no quiere oír mis palabras, y prosigue con su depravado corazón, y se ha ido en pos de los dioses ajenos para servirlos y adorarlos, vendrá a ser como esa faja, que para nada es buena.
A este pueblo malo, que no quieren oir mis palabras, que andan en las imaginaciones de su corazón, y se fueron en pos de dioses ajenos para servirles, y para encorvarse á ellos; y vendrá á ser como este cinto, que para ninguna cosa es bueno.
This evil people, which refuse to hear my words, which walk in the imagination of their heart, and walk after other gods, to serve them, and to worship them, shall even be as this girdle, which is good for nothing.

Y eso que al modo que una faja se aprieta a la cintura del hombre, así había yo unido estrechamente conmigo, dice el Señor, a toda la casa de Israel y a toda la casa de Judá, para que fuesen el pueblo mío, y para ser yo allí conocido, y alabado, y glorificado; y ellos, a pesar de eso, no quisieron escucharme.
Porque como el cinto se junta á los lomos del hombre, así hice juntar á mí toda la casa de Israel y toda la casa de Judá, dice Jehová, para que me fuesen por pueblo y por fama, y por alabanza y por honra: empero no escucharon.
For as the girdle cleaveth to the loins of a man, so have I caused to cleave unto me the whole house of Israel and the whole house of Judah, saith the LORD; that they might be unto me for a people, and for a name, and for a praise, and for a glory: but they would not hear.
For as the belt clings to the waist of a man, so I have caused the whole house of Israel and the whole house of Judah to cling to me,’ says the LORD; ‘that they may be to me for a people, for a name, for praise, and for glory; but they would not hear.’
Por tanto les dirás estas palabras: Esto dice el Señor Dios de Israel: Todas las vasijas serán llenadas de vino. Y ellos te responderán: ¿Acaso no sabemos que en años abundantes se llenan de vino todos los vasos?
Les dirás pues esta palabra: Así ha dicho Jehová, Dios de Israel: Henchiráse de vino todo odre. Y ellos te dirán: ¿No sabemos que todo odre se henchirá de vino?
Therefore thou shalt speak unto them this word; Thus saith the LORD God of Israel, Every bottle shall be filled with wine: and they shall say unto thee, Do we not certainly know that every bottle shall be filled with wine?

Y tú entonces les dirás: Así habla el Señor: Pues mirad, yo llenaré de embriaguez a todos los habitantes de esta tierra, y a los reyes de la estirpe de David, que están sentados sobre su solio, y a los sacerdotes y profetas, y a todos los moradores de Jerusalén ;

y los desparramaré entre las naciones, dice el Señor, separando el hermano de su hermano, y los padres de sus hijos; no perdonaré, ni me aplacaré, ni me moveré a compasión para dejar de destruirlos.
Y quebrantarélos el uno con el otro, los padres con los hijos juntamente, dice Jehová: no perdonaré, ni tendré piedad ni misericordia, para no destruirlos.

Oíd, pues, y escuchad con atención: No queráis ensoberbeceros confiando en vuestras fuerzas, porque el Señor es quien ha hablado.

Que si no obedeciereis en esto, llorará mi alma en secreto, al ver vuestra soberbia; llorará amargamente, y mis ojos derramarán arroyos de lágrimas, por haber sido cautivada la grey del Señor.

Levantad los ojos y mirad ¡oh vosotros que venís del lado del septentrión! ¿En dónde está, diréis a Jerusalén , aquella grey que se te encomendó, aquel tu esclarecido rebaño?
Alzad vuestros ojos, y ved los que vienen del aquilón: ¿dónde está el rebaño que te fué dado, la grey de tu gloria?

¿Qué dirás cuando Dios te llame a tomar cuentas puesto que tú amaestraste contra ti a los enemigos, y los instruiste para tu perdición. ¡Cómo no te han de asaltar dolores, semejantes a los de una mujer que está de parto!
¿Qué dirás cuando te visitará? porque tú los enseñaste á ser príncipes y cabeza sobre ti. ¿No te tomarán dolores como á mujer que pare?
What wilt thou say when he shall punish thee? for thou hast taught them to be captains, and as chief over thee: shall not sorrows take thee, as a woman in travail?
What will you say when he sets over you as head those whom you have yourself taught to be friends to you? Won’t sorrows take hold of you, as of a woman in travail?
Que si dijeres en tu corazón: ¿Por qué me han acontecido a mí tales cosas? Sábete que por tus grandes vicios han quedado descubiertas tus vergüenzas, y manchadas tus plantas.
Cuando dijeres en tu corazón: ¿Por qué me ha sobrevenido esto? Por la enormidad de tu maldad fueron descubiertas tus faldas, fueron desnudos tus calcañares.
And if thou say in thine heart, Wherefore come these things upon me? For the greatness of thine iniquity are thy skirts discovered, and thy heels made bare.
If you say in your heart, “Why have these things come on me?” Your skirts are uncovered because of the greatness of your iniquity, and your heels suffer violence.
Si el negro etíope puede cambiar su piel, o el leopardo sus varias manchas, podréis también vosotros obrar bien, después de avezados al mal.
¿Mudará el negro su pellejo, y el leopardo sus manchas? Así también podréis vosotros hacer bien, estando habituados á hacer mal.

Y por eso, dice el Señor: Yo los desparramaré, como paja menuda que el viento arrebata al desierto.

Tal es la suerte que te espera, ¡oh Jerusalén !, y la porción o paga que de mí recibirás, dice el Señor, por haberte olvidado de mí, apoyándote en la mentira.
Esta es tu suerte, la porción de tus medidas de parte mía, dice Jehová; porque te olvidaste de mí, y confiaste en la mentira.
This is thy lot, the portion of thy measures from me, saith the LORD; because thou hast forgotten me, and trusted in falsehood.

Por lo cual yo mismo manifesté tus deshonestidades delante de tu cara, y se hizo patente tu ignominia,

tus adulterios, y tu furiosa concupiscencia, en fin, la impía fornicación o idolatría tuya. En el campo y sobre las colinas vi yo tus abominaciones. ¡Desdichada Jerusalén ! ¿Y aún no querrás purificarte siguiéndome a mí sin dudar? ¿Hasta cuándo aguardas para hacerlo?
Tus adulterios, tus relinchos, la maldad de tu fornicación sobre los collados: en el mismo campo vi tus abominaciones. ¡Ay de ti, Jerusalem! ¿No serás al cabo limpia? ¿hasta cuándo todavía?
I have seen thine adulteries, and thy neighings, the lewdness of thy whoredom, and thine abominations on the hills in the fields. Woe unto thee, O Jerusalem! wilt thou not be made clean? when shall it once be?
I have seen your abominations, even your adulteries and your neighing, the lewdness of your prostitution, on the hills in the field. Woe to you, Jerusalem! You will not be made clean. How long will it yet be?”
