1Dies ist das Wort, das der HERR zu Jeremia sagte von der teuren Zeit:
2Juda liegt jämmerlich, ihre Tore stehen elend; es steht kläglich auf dem Lande, und ist zu Jerusalem ein großes Geschrei.
3Die Großen schicken die Kleinen nach Wasser; aber wenn sie zum Brunnen kommen, finden sie kein Wasser und bringen ihre Gefäße leer wieder; sie gehen traurig und betrübt und verhüllen ihre Häupter.
4Darum daß die Erde lechzt, weil es nicht regnet auf die Erde, gehen die Ackerleute traurig und verhüllen ihre Häupter.
5Denn auch die Hinden, die auf dem Felde werfen, verlassen ihre Jungen, weil kein Gras wächst.
6Das Wild steht auf den Hügeln und schnappt nach der Luft wie die Drachen und verschmachtet, weil kein Kraut wächst.
7Ach HERR, unsre Missetaten haben's ja verdient; aber hilf doch um deines Namens willen! denn unser Ungehorsam ist groß; damit wir wider dich gesündigt haben.
8Du bist der Trost Israels und sein Nothelfer; warum stellst du dich, als wärest du ein Gast im Lande und ein Fremder, der nur über Nacht darin bleibt?
9Warum stellst du dich wie ein Held, der verzagt ist, und wie ein Riese, der nicht helfen kann? Du bist ja doch unter uns, HERR, und wir heißen nach deinem Namen; verlaß uns nicht!
10So spricht der HERR von diesem Volk: Sie laufen gern hin und wieder und bleiben nicht gern daheim; darum will sie der HERR nicht, sondern er denkt nun an ihre Missetat und will ihre Sünden heimsuchen.
11Und der HERR sprach zu mir: Du sollst nicht für dies Volk um Gnade bitten.
12Denn ob sie gleich fasten, so will ich doch ihr Flehen nicht hören; und ob sie Brandopfer und Speisopfer bringen, so gefallen sie mir doch nicht, sondern ich will sie mit Schwert, Hunger und Pestilenz aufreiben.
13Da sprach ich: Ach Herr HERR, siehe, die Propheten sagen ihnen: Ihr werdet kein Schwert sehen und keine Teuerung bei euch haben; sondern ich will euch guten Frieden geben an diesem Ort.
14Und der HERR sprach zu mir: Die Propheten weissagen falsch in meinem Namen; ich habe sie nicht gesandt und ihnen nichts befohlen und nichts mit ihnen geredet. Sie predigen euch falsche Gesichte, Deutungen, Abgötterei und ihres Herzens Trügerei.
15Darum so spricht der HERR von den Propheten, die in meinem Namen weissagen, so ich sie doch nicht gesandt habe, und die dennoch predigen, es werde kein Schwert und keine Teuerung in dies Land kommen: Solche Propheten sollen sterben durch Schwert und Hunger.
16Und die Leute, denen sie weissagen, sollen vom Schwert und Hunger auf den Gassen zu Jerusalem hin und her liegen, daß sie niemand begraben wird, also auch ihre Weiber, Söhne und Töchter; und ich will ihre Bosheit über sie schütten.
17Und du sollst zu ihnen sagen dies Wort: Meine Augen fließen von Tränen Tag und Nacht und hören nicht auf; denn die Jungfrau, die Tochter meines Volks, ist greulich zerplagt und jämmerlich geschlagen.
18Gehe ich hinaus aufs Feld, siehe, so liegen da Erschlagene mit dem Schwert; komme ich in die Stadt, so liegen da vor Hunger Verschmachtete. Denn es müssen auch die Propheten, dazu auch die Priester in ein Land ziehen, das sie nicht kennen.
19Hast du denn Juda verworfen, oder hat deine Seele einen Ekel an Zion? Warum hast du uns denn so geschlagen, daß es niemand heilen kann? Wir hofften, es sollte Friede werden; so kommt nichts Gutes. Wir hofften, wir sollten heil werden; aber siehe, so ist mehr Schaden da.
20HERR, wir erkennen unser gottlos Wesen und unsrer Väter Missetat; denn wir haben wider dich gesündigt.
21Aber um deines Namens willen laß uns nicht geschändet werden; laß den Thron deiner Herrlichkeit nicht verspottet werden; gedenke doch und laß deinen Bund mit uns nicht aufhören.
22Es ist doch ja unter der Heiden Götzen keiner, der Regen könnte geben; auch der Himmel kann nicht regnen. Du bist doch ja der HERR, unser Gott, auf den wir hoffen; denn du kannst solches alles tun.

1PALABRA de Jehová que fué á Jeremías, con motivo de la sequía.
2Enlutóse Judá, y sus puertas se despoblaron: oscureciéronse en tierra, y subió el clamor de Jerusalem.
3Y los principales de ellos enviaron sus criados al agua: vinieron á las lagunas, y no hallaron agua: volviéronse con sus vasos vacíos; se avergonzaron, confundiéronse, y cubrieron sus cabezas.
4Porque se resquebrajó la tierra á causa de no llover en el país; confusos los labradores, cubrieron sus cabezas.
5Y aun las ciervas en los campos parían, y dejaban la cría, porque no había hierba.
6Y los asnos monteses se ponían en los altos, aspiraban el viento como los chacales; sus ojos se ofuscaron, porque no había hierba.
7Si nuestras iniquidades testifican contra nosotros, oh Jehová, haz por amor de tu nombre; porque nuestras rebeliones se han multiplicado, contra ti pecamos.
8Oh esperanza de Israel, Guardador suyo en el tiempo de la aflicción, ¿por qué has de ser como peregrino en la tierra, y como caminante que se aparta para tener la noche?
9¿Por qué has de ser como hombre atónito, y como valiente que no puede librar? tú empero estás entre nosotros, oh Jehová, y sobre nosotros es invocado tu nombre; no nos desampares.
10Así ha dicho Jehová á este pueblo: Así amaron moverse, ni detuvieron sus pies: por tanto, Jehová no los tiene en voluntad; acordaráse ahora de la maldad de ellos, y visitará sus pecados.
11Y díjome Jehová: No ruegues por este pueblo para bien.
12Cuando ayunaren, yo no oiré su clamor, y cuando ofrecieren holocausto y ofrenda, no lo aceptaré; antes los consumiré con cuchillo, y con hambre, y con pestilencia.
13Y yo dije: ¡Ah! ah! Señor Jehová! he aquí que los profetas les dicen: No veréis cuchillo, ni habrá hambre en vosotros, sino que en este lugar os daré paz verdadera.
14Díjome entonces Jehová: Falso profetizan los profetas en mi nombre: no los envié, ni les mandé, ni les hablé: visión mentirosa, y adivinación, y vanidad, y engaño de su corazón os profetizan.
15Por tanto así ha dicho Jehová sobre los profetas que profetizan en mi nombre, los cuales yo no envié, y que dicen, Cuchillo ni hambre no habrá en esta tierra: Con cuchillo y con hambre serán consumidos esos profetas.
16Y el pueblo á quien profetizan, echado será en las calles de Jerusalem por hambre y por espada; y no habrá quien los entierre, ellos, y sus mujeres, y sus hijos, y sus hijas; y sobre ellos derramaré su maldad.
17Decirles has, pues, esta palabra: Córranse mis ojos en lágrimas noche y día, y no cesen; porque de gran quebrantamiento es quebrantada la virgen hija de mi pueblo, de plaga muy recia.
18Si salgo al campo, he aquí muertos á cuchillo; y si me entro en la ciudad, he aquí enfermos de hambre: porque también el profeta como el sacerdote anduvieron rodeando en la tierra, y no conocieron.
19¿Has desechado enteramente á Judá? ¿ha aborrecido tu alma á Sión? ¿Por qué nos hiciste herir sin que nos quede cura? Esperamos paz, y no hubo bien; tiempo de cura, y he aquí turbación.
20Reconocemos, oh Jehová, nuestra impiedad, la iniquidad de nuestros padres: porque contra ti hemos pecado.
21Por amor de tu nombre no nos deseches, ni trastornes el trono de tu gloria: acuérdate, no invalides tu pacto con nosotros.
22¿Hay entre las vanidades de las gentes quien haga llover? ¿y darán los cielos lluvias? ¿No eres tú, Jehová, nuestro Dios? en ti pues esperamos; pues tú hiciste todas estas cosas.

1The word of the LORD that came to Jeremiah concerning the dearth.
2Judah mourneth, and the gates thereof languish; they are black unto the ground; and the cry of Jerusalem is gone up.
3And their nobles have sent their little ones to the waters: they came to the pits, and found no water; they returned with their vessels empty; they were ashamed and confounded, and covered their heads.
4Because the ground is chapt, for there was no rain in the earth, the plowmen were ashamed, they covered their heads.
5Yea, the hind also calved in the field, and forsook it, because there was no grass.
6And the wild asses did stand in the high places, they snuffed up the wind like dragons; their eyes did fail, because there was no grass.
7O LORD, though our iniquities testify against us, do thou it for thy name’s sake: for our backslidings are many; we have sinned against thee.
8O the hope of Israel, the saviour thereof in time of trouble, why shouldest thou be as a stranger in the land, and as a wayfaring man that turneth aside to tarry for a night?
9Why shouldest thou be as a man astonied, as a mighty man that cannot save? yet thou, O LORD, art in the midst of us, and we are called by thy name; leave us not.
10Thus saith the LORD unto this people, Thus have they loved to wander, they have not refrained their feet, therefore the LORD doth not accept them; he will now remember their iniquity, and visit their sins.
11Then said the LORD unto me, Pray not for this people for their good.
12When they fast, I will not hear their cry; and when they offer burnt offering and an oblation, I will not accept them: but I will consume them by the sword, and by the famine, and by the pestilence.
13Then said I, Ah, Lord GOD! behold, the prophets say unto them, Ye shall not see the sword, neither shall ye have famine; but I will give you assured peace in this place.
14Then the LORD said unto me, The prophets prophesy lies in my name: I sent them not, neither have I commanded them, neither spake unto them: they prophesy unto you a false vision and divination, and a thing of nought, and the deceit of their heart.
15Therefore thus saith the LORD concerning the prophets that prophesy in my name, and I sent them not, yet they say, Sword and famine shall not be in this land; By sword and famine shall those prophets be consumed.
16And the people to whom they prophesy shall be cast out in the streets of Jerusalem because of the famine and the sword; and they shall have none to bury them, them, their wives, nor their sons, nor their daughters: for I will pour their wickedness upon them.
17Therefore thou shalt say this word unto them; Let mine eyes run down with tears night and day, and let them not cease: for the virgin daughter of my people is broken with a great breach, with a very grievous blow.
18If I go forth into the field, then behold the slain with the sword! and if I enter into the city, then behold them that are sick with famine! yea, both the prophet and the priest go about into a land that they know not.
19Hast thou utterly rejected Judah? hath thy soul lothed Zion? why hast thou smitten us, and there is no healing for us? we looked for peace, and there is no good; and for the time of healing, and behold trouble!
20We acknowledge, O LORD, our wickedness, and the iniquity of our fathers: for we have sinned against thee.
21Do not abhor us, for thy name’s sake, do not disgrace the throne of thy glory: remember, break not thy covenant with us.
22Are there any among the vanities of the Gentiles that can cause rain? or can the heavens give showers? art not thou he, O LORD our God? therefore we will wait upon thee: for thou hast made all these things.

1This is the LORD’s word that came to Jeremiah concerning the drought:
2“Judah mourns, and its gates languish. They sit in black on the ground. The cry of Jerusalem goes up.
3Their nobles send their little ones to the waters. They come to the cisterns, and find no water. They return with their vessels empty. They are disappointed and confounded, and cover their heads.
4Because of the ground which is cracked, because no rain has been in the land, the plowmen are disappointed. They cover their heads.
5Yes, the doe in the field also calves and forsakes her young, because there is no grass.
6The wild donkeys stand on the bare heights. They pant for air like jackals. Their eyes fail, because there is no vegetation.
7Though our iniquities testify against us, work for your name’s sake, LORD; for our rebellions are many. We have sinned against you.
8You hope of Israel, its Savior in the time of trouble, why should you be as a foreigner in the land, and as a wayfaring man who turns aside to stay for a night?
9Why should you be like a scared man, as a mighty man who can’t save? Yet you, LORD, are in the middle of us, and we are called by your name. Don’t leave us.
10The LORD says to this people: “Even so they have loved to wander. They have not restrained their feet. Therefore the LORD does not accept them. Now he will remember their iniquity, and punish them for their sins.”
11The LORD said to me, “Don’t pray for this people for their good.
12When they fast, I will not hear their cry; and when they offer burnt offering and meal offering, I will not accept them; but I will consume them by the sword, by famine, and by pestilence.”
13Then I said, “Ah, Lord GOD! Behold, the prophets tell them, ‘You will not see the sword, neither will you have famine; but I will give you assured peace in this place.’”
14Then the LORD said to me, “The prophets prophesy lies in my name. I didn’t send them. I didn’t command them. I didn’t speak to them. They prophesy to you a lying vision, divination, and a thing of nothing, and the deceit of their own heart.
15Therefore the LORD says concerning the prophets who prophesy in my name, but I didn’t send them, yet they say, ‘Sword and famine will not be in this land.’ Those prophets will be consumed by sword and famine.
16The people to whom they prophesy will be cast out in the streets of Jerusalem because of the famine and the sword. They will have no one to bury them—them, their wives, their sons, or their daughters, for I will pour their wickedness on them.
17“You shall say this word to them: “‘Let my eyes run down with tears night and day, and let them not cease; for the virgin daughter of my people is broken with a great breach, with a very grievous wound.
18If I go out into the field, then behold, the slain with the sword! If I enter into the city, then behold, those who are sick with famine! For both the prophet and the priest go about in the land, and have no knowledge.’”
19Have you utterly rejected Judah? Has your soul loathed Zion? Why have you struck us, and there is no healing for us? We looked for peace, but no good came; and for a time of healing, and behold, dismay!
20We acknowledge, LORD, our wickedness, and the iniquity of our fathers; for we have sinned against you.
21Do not abhor us, for your name’s sake. Do not disgrace the throne of your glory. Remember, and don’t break your covenant with us.
