1Después que Nabucodonosor, el rey de Babilonia, capturó y sometió a esclavitud a Jeconías, hijo de Joacim, rey de Judá, y lo llevó prisionero a Babilonia junto con los príncipes de Judá y los obreros calificados —carpinteros y herreros—, el Señor me dio otra visión.
2Vi dos canastas de higos colocadas frente al templo de Jerusalén. En una canasta había higos frescos, recién madurados, pero los de la otra cesta estaban echados a perder y mohosos, pudriéndose ya.
3Entonces el Señor me dijo: ¿Qué ves, Jeremías? Yo respondí: «Higos, unos muy buenos y otros muy malos, que no se pueden comer de malos».
4Entonces el Señor, el Dios de Israel, dijo: Los higos buenos representan a los que van como prisioneros a Babilonia. De ellos tendré mucho cuidado.

6Yo me encargaré de que los traten bien y los volveré a traer de regreso. Les ayudaré y no los heriré; haré que vuelvan a ubicarse en su tierra y en ella serán prósperos.
7Les daré un corazón que esté en sintonía con mi voluntad. Serán mi pueblo y yo seré su Dios, porque con gran alegría volverán a mí.
8Pero los higos podridos representan a Sedequías, rey de Judá, sus funcionarios y el resto de Jerusalén que se ha quedado en este país; también a los que se fueron a vivir en Egipto. Los trataré como a higos podridos que no sirven para nada, dice el Señor.
9Los haré repulsivos para todas las naciones de la tierra, y serán objeto de burla, mofa y maldición dondequiera que yo los obligue a ir.
10Y en medio de ellos habrá mucha muerte, hambre y enfermedad hasta que sean eliminados de la tierra de Israel, la que yo di a ellos y a sus antepasados.

1MOSTRÓME Jehová, y he aquí dos cestas de higos puestas delante del templo de Jehová, después de haber trasportado Nabucodonosor rey de Babilonia á Jechônías hijo de Joacim, rey de Judá, y á los príncipes de Judá, y á los oficiales y herreros de Jerusalem, y haberlos llevado á Babilonia.
2La una cesta tenía higos muy buenos, como brevas; y la otra cesta tenía higos muy malos, que no se podían comer de malos.
3Y díjome Jehová: ¿Qué ves tú, Jeremías? Y dije: Higos, higos buenos, muy buenos; y malos, muy malos, que de malos no se pueden comer.
4Y fué á mí palabra de Jehová, diciendo:
5Así ha dicho Jehová Dios de Israel: Como á estos buenos higos, así conoceré la trasportación de Judá al cual eché de este lugar á tierra de Caldeos, para bien.
6Porque pondré mis ojos sobre ellos para bien, y volverélos á esta tierra; y los edificaré, y no los destruiré: plantarélos, y no los arrancaré.
7Y les daré corazón para que me conozcan, que yo soy Jehová: y me serán por pueblo, y yo les seré á ellos por Dios; porque se volverán á mí de todo su corazón.
8Y como los malos higos, que de malos no se pueden comer, así, ha dicho Jehová, daré á Sedechîas rey de Judá, y á sus príncipes, y al resto de Jerusalem que quedaron en esta tierra, y que moran en la tierra de Egipto.
9Y darélos por escarnio, por mal á todos los reinos de la tierra: por infamia, y por ejemplo, y por refrán, y por maldición á todos los lugares adonde yo los arrojaré.
10Y enviaré sobre ellos espada, hambre, y pestilencia, hasta que sean acabados de sobre la tierra que les dí á ellos y á sus padres.

1The LORD shewed me, and, behold, two baskets of figs were set before the temple of the LORD, after that Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon had carried away captive Jeconiah the son of Jehoiakim king of Judah, and the princes of Judah, with the carpenters and smiths, from Jerusalem, and had brought them to Babylon.
2One basket had very good figs, even like the figs that are first ripe: and the other basket had very naughty figs, which could not be eaten, they were so bad.
3Then said the LORD unto me, What seest thou, Jeremiah? And I said, Figs; the good figs, very good; and the evil, very evil, that cannot be eaten, they are so evil.
4Again the word of the LORD came unto me, saying,
5Thus saith the LORD, the God of Israel; Like these good figs, so will I acknowledge them that are carried away captive of Judah, whom I have sent out of this place into the land of the Chaldeans for their good.
6For I will set mine eyes upon them for good, and I will bring them again to this land: and I will build them, and not pull them down; and I will plant them, and not pluck them up.
7And I will give them an heart to know me, that I am the LORD: and they shall be my people, and I will be their God: for they shall return unto me with their whole heart.
8And as the evil figs, which cannot be eaten, they are so evil; surely thus saith the LORD, So will I give Zedekiah the king of Judah, and his princes, and the residue of Jerusalem, that remain in this land, and them that dwell in the land of Egypt:
9And I will deliver them to be removed into all the kingdoms of the earth for their hurt, to be a reproach and a proverb, a taunt and a curse, in all places whither I shall drive them.
10And I will send the sword, the famine, and the pestilence, among them, till they be consumed from off the land that I gave unto them and to their fathers.

1The LORD showed me, and behold, two baskets of figs were set before the LORD’s temple, after Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon had carried away captive Jeconiah the son of Jehoiakim, king of Judah, and the princes of Judah, with the craftsmen and smiths, from Jerusalem, and had brought them to Babylon.
2One basket had very good figs, like the figs that are first-ripe; and the other basket had very bad figs, which could not be eaten, they were so bad.
3Then the LORD asked me, “What do you see, Jeremiah?” I said, “Figs. The good figs are very good, and the bad are very bad, so bad that they can’t be eaten.”
4The LORD’s word came to me, saying,
5“The LORD, the God of Israel says: ‘Like these good figs, so I will regard the captives of Judah, whom I have sent out of this place into the land of the Chaldeans, as good.
6For I will set my eyes on them for good, and I will bring them again to this land. I will build them, and not pull them down. I will plant them, and not pluck them up.
7I will give them a heart to know me, that I am the LORD. They will be my people, and I will be their God; for they will return to me with their whole heart.
8“‘As the bad figs, which can’t be eaten, they are so bad,’ surely the LORD says, ‘So I will give up Zedekiah the king of Judah, and his princes, and the remnant of Jerusalem who remain in this land, and those who dwell in the land of Egypt.
9I will even give them up to be tossed back and forth among all the kingdoms of the earth for evil, to be a reproach and a proverb, a taunt and a curse, in all places where I will drive them.
