1Dies ist das Wort, das vom HERRN geschah zu Jeremia im zehnten Jahr Zedekias, des Königs in Juda, welches ist das achtzehnte Jahr Nebukadnezars.
2Dazumal belagerte das Heer des Königs zu Babel Jerusalem. Aber der Prophet Jeremia lag gefangen im Vorhof des Gefängnisses am Hause des Königs in Juda,
3dahin Zedekia, der König Juda's, ihn hatte lassen verschließen und gesagt: Warum weissagst du und sprichst: So spricht der HERR: Siehe, ich gebe diese Stadt in die Hände des Königs zu Babel, und er soll sie gewinnen;
4und Zedekia, der König Juda's, soll den Chaldäern nicht entrinnen, sondern ich will ihn dem König zu Babel in die Hände geben, daß er mündlich mit ihm reden und mit seinen Augen ihn sehen soll.
5Und er wird Zedekia gen Babel führen; da soll er auch bleiben, bis daß ich ihn heimsuche, spricht der HERR; denn ob ihr schon wider die Chaldäer streitet, soll euch doch nichts gelingen.
6Und Jeremia sprach: Es ist des HERRN Wort geschehen zu mir und spricht:
7Siehe, Hanameel, der Sohn Sallums, deines Oheims, kommt zu dir und wird sagen: Kaufe du meinen Acker zu Anathoth; denn du hast das nächste Freundrecht dazu, daß du ihn kaufen sollst.
8Also kam Hanameel, meines Oheims Sohn, wie der HERR gesagt hatte, zu mir in den Hof des Gefängnisses und sprach zu mir: Kaufe doch meinen Acker zu Anathoth, der im Lande Benjamin liegt; denn du hast Erbrecht dazu, und du bist der nächste; kaufe du ihn! Da merkte ich, daß es des Herrn Wort wäre,
9und kaufte den Acker von Hanameel, meines Oheims Sohn, zu Anathoth, und wog ihm das Geld dar, siebzehn Silberlinge.
10Und ich schrieb einen Brief und versiegelte ihn und nahm Zeugen dazu und wog das Geld dar auf einer Waage
11und nahm zu mir den versiegelten Kaufbrief nach Recht und Gewohnheit und eine offene Abschrift
12und gab den Kaufbrief Baruch, dem Sohn Nerias, des Sohnes Maasejas, in Gegenwart Hanameels, meines Vetters, und der Zeugen, die im Kaufbrief geschrieben standen, und aller Juden, die im Hofe des Gefängnisses saßen,
13und befahl Baruch vor ihren Augen und sprach:
14So spricht der HERR Zebaoth, der Gott Israels: Nimm diese Briefe, den versiegelten Kaufbrief samt dieser offenen Abschrift, und lege sie in ein irdenes Gefäß, daß sie lange bleiben mögen.
15Denn so spricht der HERR Zebaoth, der Gott Israels: Noch soll man Häuser, Äcker und Weinberge kaufen in diesem Lande.
16Und da ich den Kaufbrief hatte Baruch, dem Sohn Nerias, gegeben, betete ich zum HERRN und sprach:
17Ach Herr HERR, siehe, du hast Himmel und Erde gemacht durch deine große Kraft und durch deinen ausgestreckten Arm, und ist kein Ding vor dir unmöglich;
18der du wohltust vielen Tausenden und vergiltst die Missetat der Väter in den Busen ihrer Kinder nach ihnen, du großer und starker Gott; HERR Zebaoth ist dein Name;
19groß von Rat und mächtig von Tat, und deine Augen stehen offen über alle Wege der Menschenkinder, daß du einem jeglichen gibst nach seinem Wandel und nach der Frucht seines Wesens;
20der du in Ägyptenland hast Zeichen und Wunder getan bis auf diesen Tag, an Israel und den Menschen, und hast dir einen Namen gemacht, wie er heutigestages ist;
21und hast dein Volk Israel aus Ägyptenland geführt durch Zeichen und Wunder, durch deine mächtige Hand, durch ausgestrecktem Arm und durch großen Schrecken;
22und hast ihnen dies Land gegeben, welches du ihren Vätern geschworen hattest, daß du es ihnen geben wolltest, ein Land, darin Milch und Honig fließt:
23und da sie hineinkamen und es besaßen, gehorchten sie deiner Stimme nicht, wandelten auch nicht nach deinem Gesetz; und alles, was du ihnen gebotest, daß sie es tun sollten, das ließen sie; darum du auch ihnen all dies Unglück ließest widerfahren;
24siehe, diese Stadt ist belagert, daß sie gewonnen und vor Schwert, Hunger und Pestilenz in der Chaldäer Hände, welche wider sie streiten, gegeben werden muß; und wie du geredet hast, so geht es, das siehest du,
25und du sprichst zu mir, Herr HERR: “Kaufe du einen Acker um Geld und nimm Zeugen dazu”, so doch die Stadt in der Chaldäer Hände gegeben wird.
26Und des HERRN Wort geschah zu Jeremia und sprach:
27Siehe, ich, der HERR, bin ein Gott alles Fleisches; sollte mir etwas unmöglich sein?
28Darum spricht der HERR also: Siehe, ich gebe diese Stadt in der Chaldäer Hände und in die Hand Nebukadnezars, des Königs zu Babel; und er soll sie gewinnen.
29Und die Chaldäer, so wider diese Stadt streiten, werden hereinkommen und sie mit Feuer verbrennen samt den Häusern, wo sie auf den Dächern Baal geräuchert und andern Göttern Trankopfer geopfert haben, auf daß sie mich erzürnten.
30Denn die Kinder Israel und die Kinder Juda haben von ihrer Jugend auf getan, was mir übel gefällt; und die Kinder Israel haben mich erzürnt durch ihrer Hände Werk, spricht der HERR.
31Denn seitdem diese Stadt gebaut ist, bis auf diesen Tag, hat sie mich zornig gemacht, daß ich sie muß von meinem Angesicht wegtun
32um aller Bosheit willen der Kinder Israel und der Kinder Juda, die sie getan haben, daß sie mich erzürnten. Sie, ihre Könige, Fürsten, Priester und Propheten und die in Juda und Jerusalem wohnen,
33haben mir den Rücken und nicht das Angesicht zugekehrt, wiewohl ich sie stets lehren ließ; aber sie wollten nicht hören noch sich bessern.
34Dazu haben sie ihre Greuel in das Haus gesetzt, das von mir den Namen hat, daß sie es verunreinigten,
35und haben die Höhen des Baal gebaut im Tal Ben-Hinnom, daß sie ihre Söhne und Töchter dem Moloch verbrennten, davon ich ihnen nichts befohlen habe und ist mir nie in den Sinn gekommen, daß sie solche Greuel tun sollten, damit sie Juda also zu Sünden brächten.
36Und nun um deswillen spricht der HERR, der Gott Israels, also von dieser Stadt, davon ihr sagt, daß sie werde vor Schwert, Hunger und Pestilenz in die Hände des Königs zu Babel gegeben:
37Siehe, ich will sie sammeln aus allen Landen, dahin ich sie verstoße durch meinen Zorn, Grimm und große Ungnade, und will sie wiederum an diesen Ort bringen, daß sie sollen sicher wohnen.
38Und sie sollen mein Volk sein, so will ich ihr Gott sein;
39und ich will ihnen einerlei Herz und Wesen geben, daß sie mich fürchten sollen ihr Leben lang, auf daß es ihnen und ihren Kindern nach ihnen wohl gehe;
40und will einen ewigen Bund mit ihnen machen, daß ich nicht will ablassen, ihnen Gutes zu tun; und will ihnen meine Furcht ins Herz geben, daß sie nicht von mir weichen;
41und soll meine Lust sein, daß ich ihnen Gutes tue; und ich will sie in diesem Lande pflanzen treulich, von ganzem Herzen und von ganzer Seele.
42Denn so spricht der HERR: Gleichwie ich über dies Volk habe kommen lassen all dies große Unglück, also will ich auch alles Gute über sie kommen lassen, das ich ihnen verheißen habe.
43Und sollen noch Äcker gekauft werden in diesem Lande, davon ihr sagt, es werde wüst liegen, daß weder Leute noch Vieh darin bleiben, und es werde in der Chaldäer Hände gegeben.
44Dennoch wird man Äcker um Geld kaufen und verbriefen, versiegeln und bezeugen im Lande Benjamin und um Jerusalem her und in den Städten Juda's, in Städten auf den Gebirgen, in Städten in den Gründen und in Städten gegen Mittag; denn ich will ihr Gefängnis wenden, spricht der HERR.

1PALABRA que fué á Jeremías, de Jehová el año décimo de Sedechîas rey de Judá, que fué el año décimo octavo de Nabucodonosor.
2Y entonces el ejército del rey de Babilonia tenía cercada á Jerusalem; y el profeta Jeremías estaba preso en el patio de la cárcel que estaba en la casa del rey de Judá.
3Pues Sedechîas rey de Judá lo había preso, diciendo: ¿Por qué profetizas tú diciendo: Así ha dicho Jehová: He aquí yo entrego esta ciudad en mano del rey de Babilonia, y tomarála;
4Y Sedechîas rey de Judá no escapará de la mano de los Caldeos, sino que de cierto será entregado en mano del rey de Babilonia, y hablará con él boca á boca, y sus ojos verán sus ojos;
5Y hará llevar á Sedechîas á Babilonia, y allá estará hasta que yo le visite, dice Jehová: si peleareis con los Caldeos, no os sucederá bien?
6Y dijo Jeremías: Palabra de Jehová fué á mí, diciendo:
7He aquí que Hanameel, hijo de Sallum tu tío, viene á ti, diciendo: Cómprame mi heredad que está en Anathoth; porque tú tienes derecho á ella para comprarla.
8Y vino á mí Hanameel, hijo de mi tío, conforme á la palabra de Jehová, al patio de la cárcel, y díjome: Compra ahora mi heredad que está en Anathoth, en tierra de Benjamín, porque tuyo es el derecho de la herencia, y á ti compete la redención: cómprala para ti. Entonces conocí que era palabra de Jehová.
9Y compré la heredad de Hanameel, hijo de mi tío, la cual estaba en Anathoth, y peséle el dinero: diecisiete siclos de plata.
10Y escribí la carta, y selléla, é hice atestiguar á testigos, y pesé el dinero con balanza.
11Tomé luego la carta de venta, sellada según el derecho y costumbre, y el traslado abierto.
12Y dí la carta de venta á Baruch hijo de Nerías, hijo de Maasías, delante de Hanameel el hijo de mi tío, y delante de los testigos que habían suscrito en la carta de venta, delante de todos los Judíos que estaban en el patio de la cárcel.
13Y dí orden á Baruch delante de ellos, diciendo:
14Así ha dicho Jehová de los ejércitos, Dios de Israel: Toma estas cartas, esta carta de venta, la sellada, y ésta la carta abierta, y ponlas en un vaso de barro, para que se guarden muchos días.
15Porque así ha dicho Jehová de los ejércitos, Dios de Israel: Aun se comprarán casas, y heredades, y viñas en esta tierra.
16Y después que dí la carta de venta á Baruch hijo de Nerías, oré á Jehová, diciendo:
17¡Oh Señor Jehová! he aquí que tú hiciste el cielo y la tierra con tu gran poder, y con tu brazo extendido, ni hay nada que sea difícil para ti:
18Que haces misericordia en millares, y vuelves la maldad de los padres en el seno de sus hijos después de ellos: Dios grande, poderoso, Jehová de los ejércitos es su nombre:
19Grande en consejo, y magnífico en hechos: porque tus ojos están abiertos sobre todos los caminos de los hijos de los hombres, para dar á cada uno según sus caminos, y según el fruto de sus obras:
20Que pusiste señales y portentos en tierra de Egipto hasta este día, y en Israel, y entre los hombres; y te has hecho nombre cual es este día;
21Y sacaste tu pueblo Israel de tierra de Egipto con señales y portentos, y con mano fuerte y brazo extendido, con terror grande;
22Y dísteles esta tierra, de la cual juraste á sus padres que se la darías, tierra que mana leche y miel:
23Y entraron, y poseyéronla: mas no oyeron tu voz, ni anduvieron en tu ley; nada hicieron de lo que les mandaste hacer; por tanto has hecho venir sobre ellos todo este mal.
24He aquí que con arietes han acometido la ciudad para tomarla; y la ciudad va á ser entregada en mano de los Caldeos que pelean contra ella, á causa de la espada, y del hambre y de la pestilencia: ha pues venido á ser lo que tú dijiste, y he aquí tú lo estás viendo.
25¡Oh Señor Jehová! ¿y me has tú dicho: Cómprate la heredad por dinero, y pon testigos; bien que la ciudad sea entregada en manos de los Caldeos?
26Y fué palabra de Jehová á Jeremías, diciendo:
27He aquí que yo soy Jehová, Dios de toda carne; ¿encubriráseme á mí alguna cosa?
28Por tanto así ha dicho Jehová: He aquí voy á entregar esta ciudad en mano de los Caldeos, y en mano de Nabucodonosor rey de Babilonia, y la tomará:
29Y vendrán los Caldeos que combaten esta ciudad, y la pondrán á fuego, y la abrasarán, asimismo las casas sobre cuyas azoteas ofrecieron perfumes á Baal y derramaron libaciones á dioses ajenos, para provocarme á ira.
30Porque los hijos de Israel y los hijos de Judá no han hecho sino lo malo delante de mis ojos desde su juventud: porque los hijos de Israel no han hecho más que provocarme á ira con la obra de sus manos, dice Jehová.
31Por manera que para enojo mío y para ira mía me ha sido esta ciudad, desde el día que la edificaron hasta hoy, para que la haga quitar de mi presencia;
32Por toda la maldad de los hijos de Israel y de los hijos de Judá, que han hecho para enojarme, ellos, sus reyes, sus príncipes, sus sacerdotes, y sus profetas, y los varones de Judá, y los moradores de Jerusalem.
33Y volviéronme la cerviz, y no el rostro: y cuando los enseñaba, madrugando y enseñando, no escucharon para recibir corrección:
34Antes asentaron sus abominaciones en la casa sobre la cual es invocado mi nombre, contaminándola.
35Y edificaron altares á Baal, los cuales están en el valle del hijo de Hinnom, para hacer pasar por el fuego sus hijos y sus hijas á Moloch; lo cual no les mandé, ni me vino al pensamiento que hiciesen esta abominación, para hacer pecar á Judá.
36Y con todo, ahora así dice Jehová Dios de Israel, á esta ciudad, de la cual decís vosotros, Entregada será en mano del rey de Babilonia á cuchillo, á hambre, y á pestilencia:
37He aquí que yo los juntaré de todas las tierras á las cuales los eché con mi furor, y con mi enojo y saña grande; y los haré tornar á este lugar, y harélos habitar seguramente;
38Y me serán por pueblo, y yo seré á ellos por Dios.
39Y daréles un corazón, y un camino, para que me teman perpetuamente, para que hayan bien ellos, y sus hijos después de ellos.
40Y haré con ellos pacto eterno, que no tornaré atrás de hacerles bien, y pondré mi temor en el corazón de ellos, para que no se aparten de mí.
41Y alegraréme con ellos haciéndoles bien, y los plantaré en esta tierra en verdad, de todo mi corazón y de toda mi alma.
42Porque así ha dicho Jehová: Como traje sobre este pueblo todo este grande mal, así traeré sobre ellos todo el bien que acerca de ellos hablo.
43Y poseerán heredad en esta tierra de la cual vosotros decís: Está desierta, sin hombres y sin animales; es entregada en manos de los Caldeos.
44Heredades comprarán por dinero, y harán carta, y la sellarán, y pondrán testigos, en tierra de Benjamín y en los contornos de Jerusalem, y en las ciudades de Judá: y en las ciudades de las montañas, y en las ciudades de las campiñas, y en las ciudades del mediodía: porque yo haré tornar su cautividad, dice Jehová.

1The word that came to Jeremiah from the LORD in the tenth year of Zedekiah king of Judah, which was the eighteenth year of Nebuchadrezzar.
2For then the king of Babylon’s army besieged Jerusalem: and Jeremiah the prophet was shut up in the court of the prison, which was in the king of Judah’s house.
3For Zedekiah king of Judah had shut him up, saying, Wherefore dost thou prophesy, and say, Thus saith the LORD, Behold, I will give this city into the hand of the king of Babylon, and he shall take it;
4And Zedekiah king of Judah shall not escape out of the hand of the Chaldeans, but shall surely be delivered into the hand of the king of Babylon, and shall speak with him mouth to mouth, and his eyes shall behold his eyes;
5And he shall lead Zedekiah to Babylon, and there shall he be until I visit him, saith the LORD: though ye fight with the Chaldeans, ye shall not prosper.
6And Jeremiah said, The word of the LORD came unto me, saying,
7Behold, Hanameel the son of Shallum thine uncle shall come unto thee, saying, Buy thee my field that is in Anathoth: for the right of redemption is thine to buy it.
8So Hanameel mine uncle’s son came to me in the court of the prison according to the word of the LORD, and said unto me, Buy my field, I pray thee, that is in Anathoth, which is in the country of Benjamin: for the right of inheritance is thine, and the redemption is thine; buy it for thyself. Then I knew that this was the word of the LORD.
9And I bought the field of Hanameel my uncle’s son, that was in Anathoth, and weighed him the money, even seventeen shekels of silver.
10And I subscribed the evidence, and sealed it, and took witnesses, and weighed him the money in the balances.
11So I took the evidence of the purchase, both that which was sealed according to the law and custom, and that which was open:
12And I gave the evidence of the purchase unto Baruch the son of Neriah, the son of Maaseiah, in the sight of Hanameel mine uncle’s son, and in the presence of the witnesses that subscribed the book of the purchase, before all the Jews that sat in the court of the prison.
13And I charged Baruch before them, saying,
14Thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; Take these evidences, this evidence of the purchase, both which is sealed, and this evidence which is open; and put them in an earthen vessel, that they may continue many days.
15For thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; Houses and fields and vineyards shall be possessed again in this land.
16Now when I had delivered the evidence of the purchase unto Baruch the son of Neriah, I prayed unto the LORD, saying,
17Ah Lord GOD! behold, thou hast made the heaven and the earth by thy great power and stretched out arm, and there is nothing too hard for thee:
18Thou shewest lovingkindness unto thousands, and recompensest the iniquity of the fathers into the bosom of their children after them: the Great, the Mighty God, the LORD of hosts, is his name,
19Great in counsel, and mighty in work: for thine eyes are open upon all the ways of the sons of men: to give every one according to his ways, and according to the fruit of his doings:
20Which hast set signs and wonders in the land of Egypt, even unto this day, and in Israel, and among other men; and hast made thee a name, as at this day;
21And hast brought forth thy people Israel out of the land of Egypt with signs, and with wonders, and with a strong hand, and with a stretched out arm, and with great terror;
22And hast given them this land, which thou didst swear to their fathers to give them, a land flowing with milk and honey;
23And they came in, and possessed it; but they obeyed not thy voice, neither walked in thy law; they have done nothing of all that thou commandedst them to do: therefore thou hast caused all this evil to come upon them:
24Behold the mounts, they are come unto the city to take it; and the city is given into the hand of the Chaldeans, that fight against it, because of the sword, and of the famine, and of the pestilence: and what thou hast spoken is come to pass; and, behold, thou seest it.
25And thou hast said unto me, O Lord GOD, Buy thee the field for money, and take witnesses; for the city is given into the hand of the Chaldeans.
26Then came the word of the LORD unto Jeremiah, saying,
27Behold, I am the LORD, the God of all flesh: is there any thing too hard for me?
28Therefore thus saith the LORD; Behold, I will give this city into the hand of the Chaldeans, and into the hand of Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon, and he shall take it:
29And the Chaldeans, that fight against this city, shall come and set fire on this city, and burn it with the houses, upon whose roofs they have offered incense unto Baal, and poured out drink offerings unto other gods, to provoke me to anger.
30For the children of Israel and the children of Judah have only done evil before me from their youth: for the children of Israel have only provoked me to anger with the work of their hands, saith the LORD.
31For this city hath been to me as a provocation of mine anger and of my fury from the day that they built it even unto this day; that I should remove it from before my face,
32Because of all the evil of the children of Israel and of the children of Judah, which they have done to provoke me to anger, they, their kings, their princes, their priests, and their prophets, and the men of Judah, and the inhabitants of Jerusalem.
33And they have turned unto me the back, and not the face: though I taught them, rising up early and teaching them, yet they have not hearkened to receive instruction.
34But they set their abominations in the house, which is called by my name, to defile it.
35And they built the high places of Baal, which are in the valley of the son of Hinnom, to cause their sons and their daughters to pass through the fire unto Molech; which I commanded them not, neither came it into my mind, that they should do this abomination, to cause Judah to sin.
36And now therefore thus saith the LORD, the God of Israel, concerning this city, whereof ye say, It shall be delivered into the hand of the king of Babylon by the sword, and by the famine, and by the pestilence;
37Behold, I will gather them out of all countries, whither I have driven them in mine anger, and in my fury, and in great wrath; and I will bring them again unto this place, and I will cause them to dwell safely:
38And they shall be my people, and I will be their God:
39And I will give them one heart, and one way, that they may fear me for ever, for the good of them, and of their children after them:
40And I will make an everlasting covenant with them, that I will not turn away from them, to do them good; but I will put my fear in their hearts, that they shall not depart from me.
41Yea, I will rejoice over them to do them good, and I will plant them in this land assuredly with my whole heart and with my whole soul.
42For thus saith the LORD; Like as I have brought all this great evil upon this people, so will I bring upon them all the good that I have promised them.
43And fields shall be bought in this land, whereof ye say, It is desolate without man or beast; it is given into the hand of the Chaldeans.
44Men shall buy fields for money, and subscribe evidences, and seal them, and take witnesses in the land of Benjamin, and in the places about Jerusalem, and in the cities of Judah, and in the cities of the mountains, and in the cities of the valley, and in the cities of the south: for I will cause their captivity to return, saith the LORD.

1This is the word that came to Jeremiah from the LORD in the tenth year of Zedekiah king of Judah, which was the eighteenth year of Nebuchadnezzar.
2Now at that time the king of Babylon’s army was besieging Jerusalem. Jeremiah the prophet was shut up in the court of the guard, which was in the king of Judah’s house.
3For Zedekiah king of Judah had shut him up, saying, “Why do you prophesy, and say, ‘The LORD says, “Behold, I will give this city into the hand of the king of Babylon, and he will take it;
4and Zedekiah king of Judah won’t escape out of the hand of the Chaldeans, but will surely be delivered into the hand of the king of Babylon, and will speak with him mouth to mouth, and his eyes will see his eyes;
5and he will bring Zedekiah to Babylon, and he will be there until I visit him,” says the LORD, “though you fight with the Chaldeans, you will not prosper”’?”
6Jeremiah said, “The LORD’s word came to me, saying,
7‘Behold, Hanamel the son of Shallum your uncle will come to you, saying, “Buy my field that is in Anathoth; for the right of redemption is yours to buy it.”’”
8“So Hanamel my uncle’s son came to me in the court of the guard according to the LORD’s word, and said to me, ‘Please buy my field that is in Anathoth, which is in the land of Benjamin; for the right of inheritance is yours, and the redemption is yours. Buy it for yourself.’ “Then I knew that this was the LORD’s word.
9I bought the field that was in Anathoth of Hanamel my uncle’s son, and weighed him the money, even seventeen shekels of silver.
10I signed the deed, sealed it, called witnesses, and weighed the money in the balances to him.
11So I took the deed of the purchase, both that which was sealed, containing the terms and conditions, and that which was open;
12and I delivered the deed of the purchase to Baruch the son of Neriah, the son of Mahseiah, in the presence of Hanamel my uncle’s son, and in the presence of the witnesses who signed the deed of the purchase, before all the Jews who sat in the court of the guard.
13“I commanded Baruch before them, saying,
14the LORD of Armies, the God of Israel, says: ‘Take these deeds, this deed of the purchase which is sealed, and this deed which is open, and put them in an earthen vessel, that they may last many days.’
15For the LORD of Armies, the God of Israel says: ‘Houses and fields and vineyards will yet again be bought in this land.’
16Now after I had delivered the deed of the purchase to Baruch the son of Neriah, I prayed to the LORD, saying,
17“Ah Lord GOD! Behold, you have made the heavens and the earth by your great power and by your outstretched arm. There is nothing too hard for you.
18You show loving kindness to thousands, and repay the iniquity of the fathers into the bosom of their children after them. The great, the mighty God, the LORD of Armies is your name:
19great in counsel, and mighty in work; whose eyes are open to all the ways of the children of men, to give everyone according to his ways, and according to the fruit of his doings;
20who performed signs and wonders in the land of Egypt, even to this day, both in Israel and among other men; and made yourself a name, as it is today;
21and brought your people Israel out of the land of Egypt with signs, with wonders, with a strong hand, with an outstretched arm, and with great terror;
22and gave them this land, which you swore to their fathers to give them, a land flowing with milk and honey.
23They came in and possessed it, but they didn’t obey your voice and didn’t walk in your law. They have done nothing of all that you commanded them to do. Therefore you have caused all this evil to come upon them.
24“Behold, siege ramps have been built against the city to take it. The city is given into the hand of the Chaldeans who fight against it, because of the sword, of the famine, and of the pestilence. What you have spoken has happened. Behold, you see it.
25You have said to me, Lord GOD, ‘Buy the field for money, and call witnesses;’ whereas the city is given into the hand of the Chaldeans.”
26Then the LORD’s word came to Jeremiah, saying,
27“Behold, I am the LORD, the God of all flesh. Is there anything too hard for me?
28Therefore the LORD says: Behold, I will give this city into the hand of the Chaldeans, and into the hand of Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon, and he will take it.
29The Chaldeans, who fight against this city, will come and set this city on fire, and burn it with the houses on whose roofs they have offered incense to Baal, and poured out drink offerings to other gods, to provoke me to anger.
30“For the children of Israel and the children of Judah have done only that which was evil in my sight from their youth; for the children of Israel have only provoked me to anger with the work of their hands, says the LORD.
31For this city has been to me a provocation of my anger and of my wrath from the day that they built it even to this day, so that I should remove it from before my face,
32because of all the evil of the children of Israel and of the children of Judah, which they have done to provoke me to anger—they, their kings, their princes, their priests, their prophets, the men of Judah, and the inhabitants of Jerusalem.
33They have turned their backs to me, and not their faces. Although I taught them, rising up early and teaching them, yet they have not listened to receive instruction.
34But they set their abominations in the house which is called by my name, to defile it.
35They built the high places of Baal, which are in the valley of the son of Hinnom, to cause their sons and their daughters to pass through fire to Molech, which I didn’t command them. It didn’t even come into my mind, that they should do this abomination, to cause Judah to sin.”
36Now therefore the LORD, the God of Israel, says concerning this city, about which you say, “It is given into the hand of the king of Babylon by the sword, by the famine, and by the pestilence:”
37“Behold, I will gather them out of all the countries where I have driven them in my anger, and in my wrath, and in great indignation; and I will bring them again to this place. I will cause them to dwell safely.
38Then they will be my people, and I will be their God.
39I will give them one heart and one way, that they may fear me forever, for their good and the good of their children after them.
40I will make an everlasting covenant with them, that I will not turn away from following them, to do them good. I will put my fear in their hearts, that they may not depart from me.
41Yes, I will rejoice over them to do them good, and I will plant them in this land assuredly with my whole heart and with my whole soul.”
42For the LORD says: “Just as I have brought all this great evil on this people, so I will bring on them all the good that I have promised them.
43Fields will be bought in this land, about which you say, ‘It is desolate, without man or animal. It is given into the hand of the Chaldeans.’
44Men will buy fields for money, sign the deeds, seal them, and call witnesses, in the land of Benjamin, and in the places around Jerusalem, in the cities of Judah, in the cities of the hill country, in the cities of the lowland, and in the cities of the South; for I will cause their captivity to be reversed,” says the LORD.
