1*Et il arriva, en la quatrième année de Jehoïakim, fils de Josias, roi de Juda, que cette parole vint de par l’Éternel à Jérémie, disant :
2Prends-toi un rouleau de livre, et y écris toutes les paroles que je t’ai dites contre Israël et contre Juda, et contre toutes les nations, depuis le jour où je t’ai parlé, depuis les jours de Josias et jusqu’à ce jour.
3Peut-être la maison de Juda écoutera-t-elle tout le mal que je pense à lui faire, afin qu’ils reviennent chacun de sa mauvaise voie, et que je leur pardonne leur iniquité et leur péché.
4Et Jérémie appela Baruc, fils de Nérija ; et Baruc écrivit, de la bouche de Jérémie, sur un rouleau de livre, toutes les paroles de l’Éternel, qu’il lui dit.
5Et Jérémie commanda à Baruc, disant : Je suis enfermé, je ne puis entrer dans la maison de l’Éternel ;
6mais toi, tu y entreras, et tu liras, dans le rouleau que tu as écrit de ma bouche, les paroles de l’Éternel, aux oreilles du peuple, dans la maison de l’Éternel, le jour du jeûne ; et tu les liras aussi aux oreilles de tous ceux de Juda qui viennent de leurs villes.
7Peut-être leur supplication sera-t-elle présentée devant l’Éternel, et ils reviendront chacun de sa mauvaise voie ; car grande est la colère et la fureur que l’Éternel a prononcée contre ce peuple.
8Et Baruc, fils de Nérija, fit selon tout ce que Jérémie le prophète lui avait commandé, pour lire dans le livre les paroles de l’Éternel, dans la maison de l’Éternel.
9Et il arriva, en la cinquième année de Jehoïakim, fils de Josias, roi de Juda, au neuvième mois, qu’on proclama un jeûne devant l’Éternel pour tout le peuple à Jérusalem et pour tout le peuple qui venait des villes de Juda à Jérusalem.
10Et Baruc lut dans le livre les paroles de Jérémie, dans la maison de l’Éternel, dans la chambre de Guemaria, fils de Shaphan, le scribe, dans le parvis supérieur, à l’entrée de la porte neuve de la maison de l’Éternel, aux oreilles de tout le peuple.
11Et Michée, fils de Guemaria, fils de Shaphan, entendit du livre toutes les paroles de l’Éternel ;
12et il descendit dans la maison du roi, dans la chambre du scribe, et voici, tous les princes y étaient assis : Élishama, le scribe, et Delaïa, fils de Shemahia, et Elnathan, fils d’Acbor, et Guemaria, fils de Shaphan, et Sédécias, fils de Hanania, et tous les princes.
13Et Michée leur rapporta toutes les paroles qu’il avait entendues, quand Baruc lisait dans le livre aux oreilles du peuple.
14Et tous les princes envoyèrent Jehudi, fils de Nethania, fils de Shélémia, fils de Cushi, vers Baruc, pour [lui] dire : Prends dans ta main le rouleau dans lequel tu as lu aux oreilles du peuple, et viens. – Et Baruc, fils de Nérija, prit le rouleau dans sa main, et vint vers eux.
15Et ils lui dirent : Assieds-toi, et lis-le à nos oreilles. Et Baruc lut à leurs oreilles.
16Et il arriva, lorsqu’ils entendirent toutes ces paroles, qu’ils furent effrayés, [se regardant] l’un l’autre ; et ils dirent à Baruc : Certainement nous rapporterons au roi toutes ces paroles.
17Et ils interrogèrent Baruc, disant : Raconte-nous comment tu as écrit toutes ces paroles sous sa dictée.
18Et Baruc leur dit : De sa bouche il m’a dicté toutes ces paroles, et moi j’écrivais dans le livre avec de l’encre.
19Et les princes dirent à Baruc : Va, cache-toi, toi et Jérémie ; et que personne ne sache où vous êtes.
20Et ils vinrent vers le roi, dans la cour, et ils déposèrent le rouleau dans la chambre d’Élishama, le scribe ; et ils rapportèrent aux oreilles du roi toutes les paroles.
21Et le roi envoya Jehudi pour prendre le rouleau ; et il le prit de la chambre d’Élishama, le scribe, et Jehudi le lut aux oreilles du roi et aux oreilles de tous les princes qui se tenaient là près du roi :
22et le roi était assis dans la maison d’hiver, au neuvième mois ; et le brasier brûlait devant lui.
23Et il arriva que, quand Jehudi en eut lu trois ou quatre pages, [le roi] le coupa avec le canif du scribe et le jeta au feu qui était dans le brasier, jusqu’à ce que tout le rouleau soit consumé au feu qui était dans le brasier.
24Et ils ne craignirent pas, et ne déchirèrent pas leurs vêtements, [ni] le roi ni tous ses serviteurs qui entendirent toutes ces paroles.
25Et même Elnathan, et Delaïa, et Guemaria, intercédèrent auprès du roi, afin qu’il ne brûle pas le rouleau ; mais il ne les écouta point.
26Et le roi commanda à Jerakhmeël, fils d’Hammélec, et à Seraïa, fils d’Azriel, et à Shélémia, fils d’Abdeël, de prendre Baruc, le scribe, et Jérémie le prophète ; mais l’Éternel les cacha.
27Et après que le roi eut brûlé le rouleau et les paroles que Baruc avait écrites de la bouche de Jérémie, la parole de l’Éternel vint à Jérémie, disant :
28Prends-toi encore un autre rouleau, et écris-y toutes les premières paroles qui étaient sur le premier rouleau que Jehoïakim, roi de Juda, a brûlé.
29Et tu diras à Jehoïakim, roi de Juda : Ainsi dit l’Éternel : Tu as brûlé ce rouleau, en disant : Pourquoi y as-tu écrit, disant : Le roi de Babylone viendra certainement, et il détruira ce pays et en fera disparaître les hommes et les bêtes ?
30C’est pourquoi, ainsi dit l’Éternel touchant Jehoïakim, roi de Juda : Il n’aura personne qui s’asseye sur le trône de David, et son cadavre sera jeté dehors, de jour à la chaleur, et de nuit à la gelée.
31Et je le punirai, lui, et sa semence, et ses serviteurs, pour leur iniquité, et je ferai venir sur eux, et sur les habitants de Jérusalem, et sur les hommes de Juda, tout le mal que je leur ai annoncé, et ils n’ont point écouté.
32Et Jérémie prit un autre rouleau, et le donna à Baruc, fils de Nérija, le scribe ; et il y écrivit, de la bouche de Jérémie, toutes les paroles du livre que Jehoïakim, roi de Juda, avait brûlé au feu ; et il y fut encore ajouté plusieurs paroles semblables.

1Y ACONTECIÓ en el cuarto año de Joacim hijo de Josías, rey de Judá, que fué esta palabra á Jeremías, de Jehová, diciendo:
2Tómate un rollo de libro, y escribe en él todas las palabras que te he hablado contra Israel y contra Judá, y contra todas las gentes, desde el día que comencé á hablarte, desde los días de Josías hasta hoy.
3Quizá oirá la casa de Judá todo el mal que yo pienso hacerles, para volverse cada uno de su mal camino, y yo perdonaré su maldad y su pecado.
4Y llamó Jeremías á Baruch hijo de Nerías, y escribió Baruch de boca de Jeremías, en un rollo de libro, todas las palabras que Jehová le había hablado.
5Después mandó Jeremías á Baruch, diciendo: Yo estoy preso, no puedo entrar en la casa de Jehová:
6Entra tú pues, y lee de este rollo que escribiste de mi boca, las palabras de Jehová en oídos del pueblo, en la casa de Jehová, el día del ayuno; y las leerás también en oídos de todo Judá que vienen de sus ciudades.
7Quizá caerá oración de ellos en la presencia de Jehová, y tornaráse cada uno de su mal camino; porque grande es el furor y la ira que ha expresado Jehová contra este pueblo.
8Y Baruch hijo de Nerías hizo conforme á todas las cosas que le mandó Jeremías profeta, leyendo en el libro las palabras de Jehová en la casa de Jehová.
9Y aconteció en el año quinto de Joacim hijo de Josías, rey de Judá, en el mes noveno, que promulgaron ayuno en la presencia de Jehová, á todo el pueblo de Jerusalem, y á todo el pueblo que venía de las ciudades de Judá á Jerusalem.
10Y Baruch leyó en el libro las palabras de Jeremías en la casa de Jehová, en la cámara de Gemarías hijo de Saphán escriba, en el atrio de arriba, á la entrada de la puerta nueva de la casa de Jehová, en oídos del pueblo.
11Y Michêas hijo de Gemarías, hijo de Saphán, habiendo oído del libro todas las palabras de Jehová,
12Descendió á la casa del rey, á la cámara del secretario, y he aquí que todos los príncipes estaban allí sentados, á saber: Elisama secretario, y Delaías hijo de Semeías, y Elnathán hijo de Achbor, y Gemarías hijo de Saphán, y Sedechîas hijo de Ananías, y todos los príncipes.
13Y contóles Michêas todas las palabras que había oído leyendo Baruch en el libro en oídos del pueblo.
14Entonces enviaron todos los príncipes á Jehudí hijo de Nethanías, hijo de Selemías, hijo de Chusi, para que dijese á Baruch: Toma el rollo en que leíste á oídos del pueblo, y ven. Y Baruch, hijo de Nerías, tomó el rollo en su mano, y vino á ellos.
15Y dijéronle: Siéntate ahora, y léelo en nuestros oídos. Y leyó Baruch en sus oídos.
16Y fué que, como oyeron todas aquellas palabras, cada uno se volvió espantado á su compañero, y dijeron á Baruch: Sin duda contaremos al rey todas estas palabras.
17Preguntaron luego á Baruch, diciendo: Cuéntanos ahora cómo escribiste de boca de Jeremías todas estas palabras.
18Y Baruch les dijo: El me dictaba de su boca todas estas palabras, y yo escribía con tinta en el libro.
19Entonces dijeron los príncipes á Baruch: Ve, y escóndete tú y Jeremías, y nadie sepa dónde estáis.
20Y entraron al rey al atrio, habiendo depositado el rollo en la cámara de Elisama secretario; y contaron en los oídos del rey todas estas palabras.
21Y envió el rey á Jehudí á que tomase el rollo, el cual lo tomó de la cámara de Elisama secretario, y leyó en él Jehudí en oídos del rey, y en oídos de todos los príncipes que junto al rey estaban.
22Y el rey estaba en la casa de invierno en el mes noveno, y había un brasero ardiendo delante de él;
23Y fué que, como Jehudí hubo leído tres ó cuatro planas, rasgólo con un cuchillo de escribanía, y echólo en el fuego que había en el brasero, hasta que todo el rollo se consumió sobre el fuego que en el brasero había.
24Y no tuvieron temor, ni rasgaron sus vestidos, el rey y todos sus siervos que oyeron todas estas palabras.
25Y aunque Elnathán y Delaías y Gemarías rogaron al rey que no quemase aquel rollo, no los quiso oir:
26Antes mandó el rey á Jerameel hijo de Amelech, y á Seraías hijo de Azriel, y á Selemías hijo de Abdeel, que prendiesen á Baruch el escribiente y á Jeremías profeta; mas Jehová los escondió.
27Y fué palabra de Jehová á Jeremías, después que el rey quemó el rollo, las palabras que Baruch había escrito de boca de Jeremías, diciendo:
28Vuelve á tomar otro rollo, y escribe en él todas las palabras primeras, que estaban en el primer rollo que quemó Joacim, rey de Judá.
29Y dirás á Joacim rey de Judá: Así ha dicho Jehová: Tú quemaste este rollo, diciendo: ¿Por qué escribiste en él, diciendo: De cierto vendrá el rey de Babilonia, y destruirá esta tierra, y hará que no queden en ella hombres ni animales?
30Por tanto, así ha dicho Jehová, en orden á Joacim rey de Judá: No tendrá quien se siente sobre el trono de David; y su cuerpo será echado al calor del día y al hielo de la noche.
31Y visitaré sobre él, y sobre su simiente, y sobre sus siervos, su maldad; y traeré sobre ellos, y sobre los moradores de Jerusalem, y sobre los varones de Judá, todo el mal que les he dicho y no escucharon.
32Y tomó Jeremías otro rollo, y diólo á Baruch hijo de Nerías escriba; y escribió en él de boca de Jeremías todas las palabras del libro que quemó en el fuego Joacim rey de Judá; y aun fueron añadidas sobre ellas muchas otras palabras semejantes.

1And it came to pass in the fourth year of Jehoiakim the son of Josiah king of Judah, that this word came unto Jeremiah from the LORD, saying,
2Take thee a roll of a book, and write therein all the words that I have spoken unto thee against Israel, and against Judah, and against all the nations, from the day I spake unto thee, from the days of Josiah, even unto this day.
3It may be that the house of Judah will hear all the evil which I purpose to do unto them; that they may return every man from his evil way; that I may forgive their iniquity and their sin.
4Then Jeremiah called Baruch the son of Neriah: and Baruch wrote from the mouth of Jeremiah all the words of the LORD, which he had spoken unto him, upon a roll of a book.
5And Jeremiah commanded Baruch, saying, I am shut up; I cannot go into the house of the LORD:
6Therefore go thou, and read in the roll, which thou hast written from my mouth, the words of the LORD in the ears of the people in the LORD’s house upon the fasting day: and also thou shalt read them in the ears of all Judah that come out of their cities.
7It may be they will present their supplication before the LORD, and will return every one from his evil way: for great is the anger and the fury that the LORD hath pronounced against this people.
8And Baruch the son of Neriah did according to all that Jeremiah the prophet commanded him, reading in the book the words of the LORD in the LORD’s house.
9And it came to pass in the fifth year of Jehoiakim the son of Josiah king of Judah, in the ninth month, that they proclaimed a fast before the LORD to all the people in Jerusalem, and to all the people that came from the cities of Judah unto Jerusalem.
10Then read Baruch in the book the words of Jeremiah in the house of the LORD, in the chamber of Gemariah the son of Shaphan the scribe, in the higher court, at the entry of the new gate of the LORD’s house, in the ears of all the people.
11When Michaiah the son of Gemariah, the son of Shaphan, had heard out of the book all the words of the LORD,
12Then he went down into the king’s house, into the scribe’s chamber: and, lo, all the princes sat there, even Elishama the scribe, and Delaiah the son of Shemaiah, and Elnathan the son of Achbor, and Gemariah the son of Shaphan, and Zedekiah the son of Hananiah, and all the princes.
13Then Michaiah declared unto them all the words that he had heard, when Baruch read the book in the ears of the people.
14Therefore all the princes sent Jehudi the son of Nethaniah, the son of Shelemiah, the son of Cushi, unto Baruch, saying, Take in thine hand the roll wherein thou hast read in the ears of the people, and come. So Baruch the son of Neriah took the roll in his hand, and came unto them.
15And they said unto him, Sit down now, and read it in our ears. So Baruch read it in their ears.
16Now it came to pass, when they had heard all the words, they were afraid both one and other, and said unto Baruch, We will surely tell the king of all these words.
17And they asked Baruch, saying, Tell us now, How didst thou write all these words at his mouth?
18Then Baruch answered them, He pronounced all these words unto me with his mouth, and I wrote them with ink in the book.
19Then said the princes unto Baruch, Go, hide thee, thou and Jeremiah; and let no man know where ye be.
20And they went in to the king into the court, but they laid up the roll in the chamber of Elishama the scribe, and told all the words in the ears of the king.
21So the king sent Jehudi to fetch the roll: and he took it out of Elishama the scribe’s chamber. And Jehudi read it in the ears of the king, and in the ears of all the princes which stood beside the king.
22Now the king sat in the winterhouse in the ninth month: and there was a fire on the hearth burning before him.
23And it came to pass, that when Jehudi had read three or four leaves, he cut it with the penknife, and cast it into the fire that was on the hearth, until all the roll was consumed in the fire that was on the hearth.
24Yet they were not afraid, nor rent their garments, neither the king, nor any of his servants that heard all these words.
25Nevertheless Elnathan and Delaiah and Gemariah had made intercession to the king that he would not burn the roll: but he would not hear them.
26But the king commanded Jerahmeel the son of Hammelech, and Seraiah the son of Azriel, and Shelemiah the son of Abdeel, to take Baruch the scribe and Jeremiah the prophet: but the LORD hid them.
27Then the word of the LORD came to Jeremiah, after that the king had burned the roll, and the words which Baruch wrote at the mouth of Jeremiah, saying,
28Take thee again another roll, and write in it all the former words that were in the first roll, which Jehoiakim the king of Judah hath burned.
29And thou shalt say to Jehoiakim king of Judah, Thus saith the LORD; Thou hast burned this roll, saying, Why hast thou written therein, saying, The king of Babylon shall certainly come and destroy this land, and shall cause to cease from thence man and beast?
30Therefore thus saith the LORD of Jehoiakim king of Judah; He shall have none to sit upon the throne of David: and his dead body shall be cast out in the day to the heat, and in the night to the frost.
31And I will punish him and his seed and his servants for their iniquity; and I will bring upon them, and upon the inhabitants of Jerusalem, and upon the men of Judah, all the evil that I have pronounced against them; but they hearkened not.
32Then took Jeremiah another roll, and gave it to Baruch the scribe, the son of Neriah; who wrote therein from the mouth of Jeremiah all the words of the book which Jehoiakim king of Judah had burned in the fire: and there were added besides unto them many like words.

1In the fourth year of Jehoiakim the son of Josiah, king of Judah, this word came to Jeremiah from the LORD, saying,
2“Take a scroll of a book, and write in it all the words that I have spoken to you against Israel, against Judah, and against all the nations, from the day I spoke to you, from the days of Josiah even to this day.
3It may be that the house of Judah will hear all the evil which I intend to do to them, that they may each return from his evil way; that I may forgive their iniquity and their sin.”
4Then Jeremiah called Baruch the son of Neriah; and Baruch wrote from the mouth of Jeremiah all the LORD’s words, which he had spoken to him, on a scroll of a book.
5Jeremiah commanded Baruch, saying, “I am restricted. I can’t go into the LORD’s house.
6Therefore you go, and read from the scroll which you have written from my mouth, the LORD’s words, in the ears of the people in the LORD’s house on the fast day. Also you shall read them in the ears of all Judah who come out of their cities.
7It may be they will present their supplication before the LORD, and will each return from his evil way; for the LORD has pronounced great anger and wrath against this people.”
8Baruch the son of Neriah did according to all that Jeremiah the prophet commanded him, reading in the book the LORD’s words in the LORD’s house.

13Then Micaiah declared to them all the words that he had heard, when Baruch read the book in the ears of the people.
14Therefore all the princes sent Jehudi the son of Nethaniah, the son of Shelemiah, the son of Cushi, to Baruch, saying, “Take in your hand the scroll in which you have read in the ears of the people, and come.” So Baruch the son of Neriah took the scroll in his hand, and came to them.
15They said to him, “Sit down now, and read it in our hearing.” So Baruch read it in their hearing.
16Now when they had heard all the words, they turned in fear one toward another, and said to Baruch, “We will surely tell the king of all these words.”
17They asked Baruch, saying, “Tell us now, how did you write all these words at his mouth?”
18Then Baruch answered them, “He dictated all these words to me with his mouth, and I wrote them with ink in the book.”
19Then the princes said to Baruch, “You and Jeremiah go hide. Don’t let anyone know where you are.”
20They went in to the king into the court, but they had laid up the scroll in the room of Elishama the scribe. Then they told all the words in the hearing of the king.
21So the king sent Jehudi to get the scroll, and he took it out of the room of Elishama the scribe. Jehudi read it in the hearing of the king, and in the hearing of all the princes who stood beside the king.
22Now the king was sitting in the winter house in the ninth month, and there was a fire in the brazier burning before him.
23When Jehudi had read three or four columns, the king cut it with the penknife, and cast it into the fire that was in the brazier, until all the scroll was consumed in the fire that was in the brazier.
24The king and his servants who heard all these words were not afraid, and didn’t tear their garments.
25Moreover Elnathan and Delaiah and Gemariah had made intercession to the king that he would not burn the scroll; but he would not listen to them.
26The king commanded Jerahmeel the king’s son, and Seraiah the son of Azriel, and Shelemiah the son of Abdeel, to arrest Baruch the scribe and Jeremiah the prophet; but the LORD hid them.
27Then the LORD’s word came to Jeremiah, after the king had burned the scroll, and the words which Baruch wrote at the mouth of Jeremiah, saying,
28“Take again another scroll, and write in it all the former words that were in the first scroll, which Jehoiakim the king of Judah has burned.
29Concerning Jehoiakim king of Judah you shall say, ‘The LORD says: “You have burned this scroll, saying, ‘Why have you written therein, saying, “The king of Babylon will certainly come and destroy this land, and will cause to cease from there man and animal”?’”
30Therefore the LORD says concerning Jehoiakim king of Judah: “He will have no one to sit on David’s throne. His dead body will be cast out in the day to the heat, and in the night to the frost.
31I will punish him, his offspring, and his servants for their iniquity. I will bring on them, on the inhabitants of Jerusalem, and on the men of Judah, all the evil that I have pronounced against them, but they didn’t listen.”’”
32Then Jeremiah took another scroll, and gave it to Baruch the scribe, the son of Neriah, who wrote therein from the mouth of Jeremiah all the words of the book which Jehoiakim king of Judah had burned in the fire; and many similar words were added to them.
