Jeremías 42

Johanán, los capitanes del ejército y todo el pueblo, grandes y pequeños, acudieron a Jeremías

Y LLEGÁRONSE todos los oficiales de la gente de guerra, y Johanán hijo de Carea, y Jezanías hijo de Osaía, y todo el pueblo desde el menor hasta el mayor,

Then all the captains of the forces, and Johanan the son of Kareah, and Jezaniah the son of Hoshaiah, and all the people from the least even unto the greatest, came near,

y dijeron: ―¡Por favor, ora por nosotros ante el Señor tu Dios, porque como bien sabes, somos sólo un minúsculo resto de lo que fuimos!

Y dijeron á Jeremías profeta: Caiga ahora nuestro ruego delante de ti, y ruega por nosotros á Jehová tu Dios, por todo este resto, (pues hemos quedado unos pocos de muchos, como nos ven tus ojos,)

And said unto Jeremiah the prophet, Let, we beseech thee, our supplication be accepted before thee, and pray for us unto the LORD thy God, even for all this remnant; (for we are left but a few of many, as thine eyes do behold us:)

and said to Jeremiah the prophet, “Please let our supplication be presented before you, and pray for us to the LORD your God, even for all this remnant, for we are left but a few of many, as your eyes see us,

¡Suplícale al Señor tu Dios que nos muestre qué debemos hacer y a dónde ir!

Para que Jehová tu Dios nos enseñe camino por donde vayamos, y lo que hemos de hacer.

That the LORD thy God may shew us the way wherein we may walk, and the thing that we may do.

that the LORD your God may show us the way in which we should walk, and the things that we should do.”

―Muy bien —respondió Jeremías—. Le preguntaré y les comunicaré lo que el Señor diga; nada les ocultaré.

Y Jeremías profeta les dijo: Ya he oído. He aquí que voy á orar á Jehová vuestro Dios, como habéis dicho; y será que todo lo que Jehová os respondiere, os enseñaré: no os reservaré palabra.

Then Jeremiah the prophet said unto them, I have heard you; behold, I will pray unto the LORD your God according to your words; and it shall come to pass, that whatsoever thing the LORD shall answer you, I will declare it unto you; I will keep nothing back from you.

Then Jeremiah the prophet said to them, “I have heard you. Behold, I will pray to the LORD your God according to your words; and it will happen that whatever thing the LORD answers you, I will declare it to you. I will keep nothing back from you.”

Entonces le dijeron a Jeremías: ―Caiga sobre nosotros la maldición de Dios si rehusamos obedecer en todo lo que nos mande hacer.

Y ellos dijeron á Jeremías: Jehová sea entre nosotros testigo de la verdad y de la lealtad, si no hiciéremos conforme á todo aquello para lo cual Jehová tu Dios te enviare á nosotros.

Then they said to Jeremiah, The LORD be a true and faithful witness between us, if we do not even according to all things for the which the LORD thy God shall send thee to us.

Then they said to Jeremiah, “May the LORD be a true and faithful witness among us, if we don’t do according to all the word with which the LORD your God sends you to tell us.

Nos guste o no, obedeceremos al Señor nuestro Dios, ante quien te enviamos con nuestra súplica. Porque si le obedecemos, todo nos saldrá bien.

Ora sea bueno, ora malo, á la voz de Jehová nuestro Dios, al cual te enviamos, obedeceremos; para que, obedeciendo á la voz de Jehová nuestro Dios, tengamos bien.

Whether it be good, or whether it be evil, we will obey the voice of the LORD our God, to whom we send thee; that it may be well with us, when we obey the voice of the LORD our God.

Whether it is good, or whether it is bad, we will obey the voice of the LORD our God, to whom we send you; that it may be well with us, when we obey the voice of the LORD our God.”

Diez días después el Señor dio su respuesta a Jeremías.

Y aconteció que al cabo de diez días fué palabra de Jehová á Jeremías.

And it came to pass after ten days, that the word of the LORD came unto Jeremiah.

After ten days, the LORD’s word came to Jeremiah.

Él entonces llamó a Johanán, a los capitanes de su ejército y a todo el pueblo, grandes y pequeños,

Y llamó á Johanán hijo de Carea, y á todos los oficiales de la gente de guerra que con él estaban, y á todo el pueblo desde el menor hasta el mayor;

Then called he Johanan the son of Kareah, and all the captains of the forces which were with him, and all the people from the least even to the greatest,

y les dijo: ―Ustedes me enviaron ante el Señor, el Dios de Israel, con su petición, y esta es su respuesta:

Y díjoles: Así ha dicho Jehová Dios de Israel, al cual me enviasteis para que hiciese caer vuestros ruegos en su presencia:

And said unto them, Thus saith the LORD, the God of Israel, unto whom ye sent me to present your supplication before him;

and said to them, “The LORD, the God of Israel, to whom you sent me to present your supplication before him, says:

Quédense en esta tierra. Si así hacen, yo los bendeciré y nadie les hará daño, porque me duele todo lo que he tenido que castigarlos.

Si os quedareis quietos en esta tierra, os edificaré, y no os destruiré; os plantaré, y no os arrancaré: porque arrepentido estoy del mal que os he hecho.

If ye will still abide in this land, then will I build you, and not pull you down, and I will plant you, and not pluck you up: for I repent me of the evil that I have done unto you.

‘If you will still live in this land, then I will build you, and not pull you down, and I will plant you, and not pluck you up; for I grieve over the distress that I have brought on you.

No le teman más al rey de Babilonia, pues yo estoy con ustedes para librarlos de su poder.

No temáis de la presencia del rey de Babilonia, del cual tenéis temor; no temáis de su presencia, ha dicho Jehová, porque con vosotros estoy yo para salvaros y libraros de su mano:

Be not afraid of the king of Babylon, of whom ye are afraid; be not afraid of him, saith the LORD: for I am with you to save you, and to deliver you from his hand.

Don’t be afraid of the king of Babylon, of whom you are afraid. Don’t be afraid of him,’ says the LORD, ‘for I am with you to save you, and to deliver you from his hand.

Y tendré misericordia de ustedes volviéndolo a él benigno hacia ustedes, de modo que no los mate ni los someta a esclavitud, sino que los dejará permanecer aquí en la tierra de ustedes.

Y os daré misericordias, y tendrá misericordia de vosotros, y os hará tornar á vuestra tierra.

And I will shew mercies unto you, that he may have mercy upon you, and cause you to return to your own land.

I will grant you mercy, that he may have mercy on you, and cause you to return to your own land.

»Pero si rehúsan obedecer al Señor y dicen: “Aquí no nos quedaremos”, e insisten en ir a Egipto en donde piensan estar libres de la guerra, el hambre y las alarmas,

Mas si dijereis: No moraremos en esta tierra, no obedeciendo así á la voz de Jehová vuestro Dios,

But if ye say, We will not dwell in this land, neither obey the voice of the LORD your God,

“‘But if you say, “We will not dwell in this land,” so that you don’t obey the LORD your God’s voice,

Y diciendo: No, antes nos entraremos en tierra de Egipto, en la cual no veremos guerra, ni oiremos sonido de trompeta, ni tendremos hambre de pan, y allá moraremos:

Saying, No; but we will go into the land of Egypt, where we shall see no war, nor hear the sound of the trumpet, nor have hunger of bread; and there will we dwell:

saying, “No, but we will go into the land of Egypt, where we will see no war, nor hear the sound of the trumpet, nor have hunger of bread; and there we will dwell;”’

entonces esto es lo que el Señor responde, oh sobrevivientes de Judá. El Señor de los ejércitos, el Dios de Israel, dice: Si insisten en ir a Egipto,

Ahora por eso, oid la palabra de Jehová, reliquias de Judá: Así ha dicho Jehová de los ejércitos, Dios de Israel: Si vosotros volviereis vuestros rostros para entrar en Egipto, y entrareis para peregrinar allá,

And now therefore hear the word of the LORD, ye remnant of Judah; Thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; If ye wholly set your faces to enter into Egypt, and go to sojourn there;

now therefore hear the LORD’s word, O remnant of Judah! The LORD of Armies, the God of Israel, says, ‘If you indeed set your faces to enter into Egypt, and go to live there,

la guerra y el hambre que temen irán pisándoles los talones y allá les alcanzarán.

Será que el cuchillo que teméis, os alcanzará allí en tierra de Egipto, y el hambre de que tenéis temor, allá en Egipto se os pegará; y allí moriréis.

Then it shall come to pass, that the sword, which ye feared, shall overtake you there in the land of Egypt, and the famine, whereof ye were afraid, shall follow close after you there in Egypt; and there ye shall die.

then it will happen that the sword, which you fear, will overtake you there in the land of Egypt; and the famine, about which you are afraid, will follow close behind you there in Egypt; and you will die there.

Esa es la suerte que espera a cada uno de los que insistan en ir a vivir en Egipto. Sí, morirán por herida de espada, de hambre y enfermedad. Ninguno de ustedes escapará al mal que traeré sobre ustedes allá.

Será pues, que todos los hombres que tornaren sus rostros para entrarse en Egipto, para peregrinar allí, morirán á cuchillo, de hambre, y de pestilencia: no habrá de ellos quien quede vivo, ni quien escape delante del mal que traeré yo sobre ellos.

So shall it be with all the men that set their faces to go into Egypt to sojourn there; they shall die by the sword, by the famine, and by the pestilence: and none of them shall remain or escape from the evil that I will bring upon them.

So will it be with all the men who set their faces to go into Egypt to live there. They will die by the sword, by the famine, and by the pestilence. None of them will remain or escape from the evil that I will bring on them.’

»Porque el Señor de los ejércitos, el Dios de Israel, dice: Así como mi ira y mi furia cayeron sobre el pueblo de Jerusalén, así caerá sobre ustedes cuando entren en Egipto. Los recibirán con disgusto y odio, los maldecirán y afrentarán, y jamás volverán a ver su patria.

Porque así ha dicho Jehová de los ejércitos, Dios de Israel: Como se derramó mi enojo y mi ira sobre los moradores de Jerusalem, así se derramará mi ira sobre vosotros, cuando entrareis en Egipto; y seréis por juramento y por espanto, y por maldición y por afrenta; y no veréis más este lugar.

For thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; As mine anger and my fury hath been poured forth upon the inhabitants of Jerusalem; so shall my fury be poured forth upon you, when ye shall enter into Egypt: and ye shall be an execration, and an astonishment, and a curse, and a reproach; and ye shall see this place no more.

For the LORD of Armies, the God of Israel, says: ‘As my anger and my wrath has been poured out on the inhabitants of Jerusalem, so my wrath will be poured out on you, when you enter into Egypt; and you will be an object of horror, an astonishment, a curse, and a reproach; and you will see this place no more.’

Porque el Señor ha dicho: ¡Oh sobrevivientes de Judá, no vayan a Egipto! Tengan presente que hoy nuevamente se lo estoy advirtiendo.

Jehová habló sobre vosotros, oh reliquias de Judá: No entréis en Egipto: sabed por cierto que os aviso hoy.

The LORD hath said concerning you, O ye remnant of Judah; Go ye not into Egypt: know certainly that I have admonished you this day.

“The LORD has spoken concerning you, remnant of Judah, ‘Don’t go into Egypt!’ Know certainly that I have testified to you today.

Si van, pagarán con la vida. Porque sin sinceridad me enviaron a consultar al Señor y dijeron: “Dinos lo que el Señor mande y lo haremos”.

¿Por qué hicisteis errar vuestras almas? porque vosotros me enviasteis á Jehová vuestro Dios, diciendo: Ora por nosotros á Jehová nuestro Dios; y conforme á todas las cosas que Jehová nuestro Dios dijere, háznoslo saber así, y lo pondremos por obra.

For ye dissembled in your hearts, when ye sent me unto the LORD your God, saying, Pray for us unto the LORD our God; and according unto all that the LORD our God shall say, so declare unto us, and we will do it.

For you have dealt deceitfully against your own souls; for you sent me to the LORD your God, saying, ‘Pray for us to the LORD our God; and according to all that the LORD our God says, so declare to us, and we will do it.’

Y hoy les he dicho exactamente lo que el Señor dijo, pero no quieren obedecer hoy como no quisieron obedecer en el pasado.

Y os lo he denunciado hoy, y no habéis obedecido á la voz de Jehová vuestro Dios, ni á todas las cosas por las cuales me envió á vosotros.

And now I have this day declared it to you; but ye have not obeyed the voice of the LORD your God, nor any thing for the which he hath sent me unto you.

I have declared it to you today; but you have not obeyed the LORD your God’s voice in anything for which he has sent me to you.

Tengan desde ahora por seguro que morirán por herida de espada, de hambre y enfermedad en Egipto a donde insisten en ir».

Ahora pues sabed de cierto que á cuchillo, y de hambre y pestilencia, moriréis en el lugar donde deseasteis entrar para peregrinar allí.

Now therefore know certainly that ye shall die by the sword, by the famine, and by the pestilence, in the place whither ye desire to go and to sojourn.

Now therefore know certainly that you will die by the sword, by the famine, and by the pestilence in the place where you desire to go to live.”
