1Willst du dich, Israel, bekehren, spricht der HERR, so bekehre dich zu mir. Und so du deine Greuel wegtust von meinem Angesicht, so sollst du nicht vertrieben werden.
2Alsdann wirst du ohne Heuchelei recht und heilig schwören: So wahr der HERR lebt! und die Heiden werden in ihm gesegnet werden und sich sein rühmen.
3Denn so spricht der HERR zu denen in Juda und zu Jerusalem: Pflügt ein Neues und säet nicht unter die Hecken.
4Beschneidet euch dem HERRN und tut weg die Vorhaut eures Herzens, ihr Männer in Juda und ihr Leute zu Jerusalem, auf daß nicht mein Grimm ausfahre wie Feuer und brenne, daß niemand löschen könne, um eurer Bosheit willen.
5Verkündiget in Juda und schreiet laut zu Jerusalem und sprecht: “Blaset die Drommete im Lande!” Ruft mit voller Stimme und sprecht: “Sammelt euch und laßt uns in die festen Städte ziehen!”
6Werft zu Zion ein Panier auf; flieht und säumt nicht! Denn ich bringe ein Unglück herzu von Mitternacht und einen großen Jammer.
7Es fährt daher der Löwe aus seiner Hecke, und der Verstörer der Heiden zieht einher aus seinem Ort, daß er dein Land verwüste und deine Städte ausbrenne, daß niemand darin wohne.
8Darum ziehet Säcke an, klaget und heulet; denn der grimmige Zorn des HERRN will sich nicht wenden von uns.
9Zu der Zeit, spricht der HERR, wird dem König und den Fürsten das Herz entfallen; die Priester werden bestürzt und die Propheten erschrocken sein.
10Ich aber sprach: Ach Herr HERR! du hast's diesem Volk und Jerusalem weit fehlgehen lassen, da sie sagten: “Es wird Friede mit euch sein”, so doch das Schwert bis an die Seele reicht.
11Zu derselben Zeit wird man diesem Volk und Jerusalem sagen: “Es kommt ein dürrer Wind über das Gebirge her aus der Wüste, des Weges zu der Tochter meines Volks, nicht zum Worfeln noch zu Schwingen.”
12Ja, ein Wind kommt, der ihnen zu stark sein wird; da will ich denn auch mit ihnen rechten.
13Siehe, er fährt daher wie Wolken, und seine Wagen sind wie Sturmwind, seine Rosse sind schneller denn Adler. Weh uns! wir müssen verstört werden.”
14So wasche nun, Jerusalem, dein Herz von der Bosheit, auf daß dir geholfen werde. Wie lange wollen bei dir bleiben deine leidigen Gedanken?
15Denn es kommt ein Geschrei von Dan her und eine böse Botschaft vom Gebirge Ephraim.
16Saget an den Heiden, verkündiget in Jerusalem, daß Hüter kommen aus fernen Landen und werden schreien wider die Städte Juda's.
17Sie werden sich um sie her lagern wie die Hüter auf dem Felde; denn sie haben mich erzürnt, spricht der HERR.
18Das hast du zum Lohn für dein Wesen und dein Tun. Dann wird dein Herz fühlen, wie deine Bosheit so groß ist.
19Wie ist mir so herzlich weh! Mein Herz pocht mir im Leibe, und habe keine Ruhe; denn meine Seele hört der Posaunen Hall und eine Feldschlacht
20und einen Mordschrei über den andern; denn das ganze Land wird verheert, plötzlich werden meine Hütten und meine Gezelte verstört.
21Wie lange soll ich doch das Panier sehen und der Posaune Hall hören?
22Aber mein Volk ist toll, und sie glauben mir nicht; töricht sind sie und achten's nicht. Weise sind sie genug, Übles zu tun; aber wohltun wollen sie nicht lernen.
23Ich schaute das Land an, siehe, das war wüst und öde, und den Himmel, und er war finster.
24Ich sah die Berge an, und siehe, die bebten, und alle Hügel zitterten.
25Ich sah, und siehe, da war kein Mensch, und alle Vögel unter dem Himmel waren weggeflogen.
26Ich sah, und siehe, das Gefilde war eine Wüste; und alle Städte darin waren zerbrochen vor dem HERRN und vor seinem grimmigen Zorn.
27Denn so spricht der HERR: Das ganze Land soll wüst werden, und ich will's doch nicht gar aus machen.
28Darum wird das Land betrübt und der Himmel droben traurig sein; denn ich habe es geredet, ich habe es beschlossen, und es soll mich nicht reuen, will auch nicht davon ablassen.
29Aus allen Städten werden sie vor dem Geschrei der Reiter und Schützen fliehen und in die dicken Wälder laufen und in die Felsen kriechen; alle Städte werden verlassen stehen, daß niemand darin wohnt.
30Was willst du alsdann tun, du Verstörte? Wenn du dich schon mit Purpur kleiden und mit goldenen Kleinoden schmücken und dein Angesicht schminken würdest, so schmückst du dich doch vergeblich; die Buhlen werden dich verachten, sie werden dir nach dem Leben trachten.
31Denn ich höre ein Geschrei als einer Gebärerin, eine Angst als einer, die in den ersten Kindesnöten ist, ein Geschrei der Tochter Zion, die da klagt und die Hände auswirft: “Ach, wehe mir! Ich muß fast vergehen vor den Würgern.”

1SI te has de convertir, oh Israel, dice Jehová, conviértete á mí; y si quitares de delante de mí tus abominaciones, no andarás de acá para allá.
2Y jurarás, diciendo, Vive Jehová, con verdad, con juicio, y con justicia: y bendecirse han en él las gentes, y en él se gloriarán.
3Porque así dice Jehová á todo varón de Judá y de Jerusalem: Haced barbecho para vosotros, y no sembréis sobre espinas.
4Circuncidaos á Jehová, y quitad los prepucios de vuestro corazón, varones de Judá y moradores de Jerusalem; no sea que mi ira salga como fuego, y se encienda y no haya quien apague, por la malicia de vuestras obras.
5Denunciad en Judá, y haced oir en Jerusalem, y decid: Sonad trompeta en la tierra. Pregonad, juntad, y decid: Reuníos, y entrémonos en las ciudades fuertes.
6Alzad bandera en Sión, juntaos, no os detengáis; porque yo hago venir mal del aquilón, y quebrantamiento grande.
7El león sube de su guarida, y el destruidor de gentes ha partido; salido ha de su asiento para poner tu tierra en soledad; tus ciudades serán asoladas, y sin morador.
8Por esto vestíos de saco, endechad y aullad; porque la ira de Jehová no se ha apartado de nosotros.
9Y será en aquel día, dice Jehová, que desfallecerá el corazón del rey, y el corazón de los príncipes, y los sacerdotes estarán atónitos, y se maravillarán los profetas.
10Y dije: ¡Ay, ay, Jehová Dios! verdaderamente en gran manera has engañado á este pueblo y á Jerusalem, diciendo, Paz tendréis; pues que el cuchillo ha venido hasta el alma.
11En aquel tiempo se dirá de este pueblo y de Jerusalem: Viento seco de las alturas del desierto vino á la hija de mi pueblo, no para aventar, ni para limpiar.
12Viento más vehemente que estos vendrá á mí: y ahora yo hablaré juicios con ellos.
13He aquí que subirá como nube, y su carro como torbellino: más ligeros con sus caballos que las águilas. ¡Ay de nosotros, porque dados somos á saco!
14Lava de la malicia tu corazón, oh Jerusalem, para que seas salva. ¿Hasta cuándo dejarás estar en medio de ti los pensamientos de iniquidad?
15Porque la voz se oye del que trae las nuevas desde Dan, y del que hace oir la calamidad desde el monte de Ephraim.
16Decid á las gentes; he aquí, haced oir sobre Jerusalem: Guardas vienen de tierra lejana, y darán su voz sobre las ciudades de Judá.
17Como las guardas de las heredades, estuvieron sobre ella en derredor, porque se rebeló contra mí, dice Jehová.
18Tu camino y tus obras te hicieron esto, ésta tu maldad: por lo cual amargura penetrará hasta tu corazón.
19¡Mis entrañas, mis entrañas! Me duelen las telas de mi corazón: mi corazón ruge dentro de mí; no callaré; porque voz de trompeta has oído, oh alma mía, pregón de guerra.
20Quebrantamiento sobre quebrantamiento es llamado; porque toda la tierra es destruída: en un punto son destruídas mis tiendas, en un momento mis cortinas.
21¿Hasta cuándo tengo de ver bandera, tengo de oir voz de trompeta?
22Porque mi pueblo es necio; no me conocieron los hijos ignorantes y los no entendidos; sabios para mal hacer, y para bien hacer no supieron.
23Miré la tierra, y he aquí que estaba asolada y vacía; y los cielos, y no había en ellos luz.
24Miré los montes, y he aquí que temblaban, y todos los collados fueron destruídos.
25Miré, y no parecía hombre, y todas las aves del cielo se habían ido.
26Miré, y he aquí el Carmelo desierto, y todas sus ciudades eran asoladas á la presencia de Jehová, á la presencia del furor de su ira.
27Porque así dijo Jehová: Toda la tierra será asolada; mas no haré consumación.
28Por esto se enlutará la tierra, y los cielos arriba se oscurecerán, porque hablé, pensé, y no me arrepentí, ni me tornaré de ello.
29Del estruendo de la gente de á caballo y de los flecheros huyó toda la ciudad; entráronse en las espesuras de los bosques, y subiéronse en peñascos; todas las ciudades fueron desamparadas, y no quedó en ellas morador alguno.
30Y tú, destruída, ¿qué harás? Bien que te vistas de grana, aunque te adornes con atavíos de oro, aunque pintes con antimonio tus ojos, en vano te engalanas; menospreciáronte los amadores, buscarán tu alma.
31Porque voz oí como de mujer que está de parto, angustia como de primeriza; voz de la hija de Sión que lamenta y extiende sus manos, diciendo: ¡Ay ahora de mí! que mi alma desmaya á causa de los matadores.

1If thou wilt return, O Israel, saith the LORD, return unto me: and if thou wilt put away thine abominations out of my sight, then shalt thou not remove.
2And thou shalt swear, The LORD liveth, in truth, in judgment, and in righteousness; and the nations shall bless themselves in him, and in him shall they glory.
3For thus saith the LORD to the men of Judah and Jerusalem, Break up your fallow ground, and sow not among thorns.
4Circumcise yourselves to the LORD, and take away the foreskins of your heart, ye men of Judah and inhabitants of Jerusalem: lest my fury come forth like fire, and burn that none can quench it, because of the evil of your doings.
5Declare ye in Judah, and publish in Jerusalem; and say, Blow ye the trumpet in the land: cry, gather together, and say, Assemble yourselves, and let us go into the defenced cities.
6Set up the standard toward Zion: retire, stay not: for I will bring evil from the north, and a great destruction.
7The lion is come up from his thicket, and the destroyer of the Gentiles is on his way; he is gone forth from his place to make thy land desolate; and thy cities shall be laid waste, without an inhabitant.
8For this gird you with sackcloth, lament and howl: for the fierce anger of the LORD is not turned back from us.
9And it shall come to pass at that day, saith the LORD, that the heart of the king shall perish, and the heart of the princes; and the priests shall be astonished, and the prophets shall wonder.
10Then said I, Ah, Lord GOD! surely thou hast greatly deceived this people and Jerusalem, saying, Ye shall have peace; whereas the sword reacheth unto the soul.
11At that time shall it be said to this people and to Jerusalem, A dry wind of the high places in the wilderness toward the daughter of my people, not to fan, nor to cleanse,
12Even a full wind from those places shall come unto me: now also will I give sentence against them.
13Behold, he shall come up as clouds, and his chariots shall be as a whirlwind: his horses are swifter than eagles. Woe unto us! for we are spoiled.
14O Jerusalem, wash thine heart from wickedness, that thou mayest be saved. How long shall thy vain thoughts lodge within thee?
15For a voice declareth from Dan, and publisheth affliction from mount Ephraim.
16Make ye mention to the nations; behold, publish against Jerusalem, that watchers come from a far country, and give out their voice against the cities of Judah.
17As keepers of a field, are they against her round about; because she hath been rebellious against me, saith the LORD.
18Thy way and thy doings have procured these things unto thee; this is thy wickedness, because it is bitter, because it reacheth unto thine heart.
19My bowels, my bowels! I am pained at my very heart; my heart maketh a noise in me; I cannot hold my peace, because thou hast heard, O my soul, the sound of the trumpet, the alarm of war.
20Destruction upon destruction is cried; for the whole land is spoiled: suddenly are my tents spoiled, and my curtains in a moment.
21How long shall I see the standard, and hear the sound of the trumpet?
22For my people is foolish, they have not known me; they are sottish children, and they have none understanding: they are wise to do evil, but to do good they have no knowledge.
23I beheld the earth, and, lo, it was without form, and void; and the heavens, and they had no light.
24I beheld the mountains, and, lo, they trembled, and all the hills moved lightly.
25I beheld, and, lo, there was no man, and all the birds of the heavens were fled.
26I beheld, and, lo, the fruitful place was a wilderness, and all the cities thereof were broken down at the presence of the LORD, and by his fierce anger.
27For thus hath the LORD said, The whole land shall be desolate; yet will I not make a full end.
28For this shall the earth mourn, and the heavens above be black: because I have spoken it, I have purposed it, and will not repent, neither will I turn back from it.
29The whole city shall flee for the noise of the horsemen and bowmen; they shall go into thickets, and climb up upon the rocks: every city shall be forsaken, and not a man dwell therein.
30And when thou art spoiled, what wilt thou do? Though thou clothest thyself with crimson, though thou deckest thee with ornaments of gold, though thou rentest thy face with painting, in vain shalt thou make thyself fair; thy lovers will despise thee, they will seek thy life.
31For I have heard a voice as of a woman in travail, and the anguish as of her that bringeth forth her first child, the voice of the daughter of Zion, that bewaileth herself, that spreadeth her hands, saying, Woe is me now! for my soul is wearied because of murderers.
World English Bible
1“If you will return, Israel,” says the LORD, “if you will return to me, and if you will put away your abominations out of my sight; then you will not be removed;
2and you will swear, ‘As the LORD lives,’ in truth, in justice, and in righteousness. The nations will bless themselves in him, and they will glory in him.”
3For the LORD says to the men of Judah and to Jerusalem, “Break up your fallow ground, and don’t sow among thorns.
4Circumcise yourselves to the LORD, and take away the foreskins of your heart, you men of Judah and inhabitants of Jerusalem; lest my wrath go out like fire, and burn so that no one can quench it, because of the evil of your doings.
5Declare in Judah, and publish in Jerusalem; and say, ‘Blow the trumpet in the land!’ Cry aloud and say, ‘Assemble yourselves! Let’s go into the fortified cities!’
6Set up a standard toward Zion. Flee for safety! Don’t wait; for I will bring evil from the north, and a great destruction.”
7A lion has gone up from his thicket, and a destroyer of nations. He is on his way. He has gone out from his place, to make your land desolate, that your cities be laid waste, without inhabitant.
8For this, clothe yourself with sackcloth, lament and wail; for the fierce anger of the LORD hasn’t turned back from us.
9“It will happen at that day,” says the LORD, “that the heart of the king will perish, along with the heart of the princes. The priests will be astonished, and the prophets will wonder.”
10Then I said, “Ah, Lord GOD! Surely you have greatly deceived this people and Jerusalem, saying, ‘You will have peace;’ whereas the sword reaches to the heart.”
11At that time it will be said to this people and to Jerusalem, “A hot wind blows from the bare heights in the wilderness toward the daughter of my people, not to winnow, nor to cleanse.
12A full wind from these will come for me. Now I will also utter judgments against them.”
13Behold, he will come up as clouds, and his chariots will be as the whirlwind. His horses are swifter than eagles. Woe to us! For we are ruined.
14Jerusalem, wash your heart from wickedness, that you may be saved. How long will your evil thoughts lodge within you?
15For a voice declares from Dan, and publishes evil from the hills of Ephraim:
16“Tell the nations, behold, publish against Jerusalem, ‘Watchers come from a far country, and raise their voice against the cities of Judah.
17As keepers of a field, they are against her all around, because she has been rebellious against me,’” says the LORD.
18“Your way and your doings have brought these things to you. This is your wickedness, for it is bitter, for it reaches to your heart.”
19My anguish, my anguish! I am pained at my very heart! My heart trembles within me. I can’t hold my peace, because you have heard, O my soul, the sound of the trumpet, the alarm of war.
20Destruction on destruction is decreed, for the whole land is laid waste. Suddenly my tents are destroyed, and my curtains gone in a moment.
21How long will I see the standard and hear the sound of the trumpet?
22“For my people are foolish. They don’t know me. They are foolish children, and they have no understanding. They are skillful in doing evil, but they don’t know how to do good.”
23I saw the earth and, behold, it was waste and void, and the heavens, and they had no light.
24I saw the mountains, and behold, they trembled, and all the hills moved back and forth.
25I saw, and behold, there was no man, and all the birds of the sky had fled.
26I saw, and behold, the fruitful field was a wilderness, and all its cities were broken down at the presence of the LORD, before his fierce anger.
27For the LORD says, “The whole land will be a desolation; yet I will not make a full end.
28For this the earth will mourn, and the heavens above be black, because I have spoken it. I have planned it, and I have not repented, neither will I turn back from it.”
29Every city flees for the noise of the horsemen and archers. They go into the thickets and climb up on the rocks. Every city is forsaken, and not a man dwells therein.
30You, when you are made desolate, what will you do? Though you clothe yourself with scarlet, though you deck yourself with ornaments of gold, though you enlarge your eyes with makeup, you make yourself beautiful in vain. Your lovers despise you. They seek your life.
31For I have heard a voice as of a woman in travail, the anguish as of her who gives birth to her first child, the voice of the daughter of Zion, who gasps for breath, who spreads her hands, saying, “Woe is me now! For my soul faints before the murderers.”
