Luego le dijo el Señor a Jeremías:
PALABRA que fué de Jehová á Jeremías, diciendo:

Ve a la entrada del templo del Señor y dale al pueblo este mensaje: ¡Oh Judá, escucha este mensaje del Señor! Escúchenlo ustedes, los que vienen aquí a rendir homenaje a Dios.
Ponte á la puerta de la casa de Jehová, y predica allí esta palabra, y di: Oid palabra de Jehová, todo Judá, los que entráis por estas puertas para adorar á Jehová.
Stand in the gate of the LORD’s house, and proclaim there this word, and say, Hear the word of the LORD, all ye of Judah, that enter in at these gates to worship the LORD.
“Stand in the gate of the LORD’s house, and proclaim this word there, and say, ‘Hear the LORD’s word, all you of Judah, who enter in at these gates to worship the LORD.’”
El Señor de los ejércitos, el Dios de Israel dice: Aun ahora, si abandonan su mala conducta los dejaré permanecer en su tierra.
Así ha dicho Jehová de los ejércitos, Dios de Israel: Mejorad vuestros caminos y vuestras obras, y os haré morar en este lugar.
Thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel, Amend your ways and your doings, and I will cause you to dwell in this place.
The LORD of Armies, the God of Israel says, “Amend your ways and your doings, and I will cause you to dwell in this place.
Pero no se dejen engañar por quienes mienten diciendo que por estar aquí el templo del Señor, Dios jamás permitirá que Jerusalén sea destruida.
No fiéis en palabras de mentira, diciendo: Templo de Jehová, templo de Jehová, templo de Jehová es éste.
Trust ye not in lying words, saying, The temple of the LORD, The temple of the LORD, The temple of the LORD, are these.
Don’t trust in lying words, saying, ‘The LORD’s temple, the LORD’s temple, the LORD’s temple, are these.’
Pueden quedarse sólo con estas condiciones: Si abandonan sus malvados pensamientos y actos, y se relacionan entre sí en toda justicia
Mas si mejorareis cumplidamente vuestros caminos y vuestras obras; si con exactitud hiciereis derecho entre el hombre y su prójimo,
For if ye throughly amend your ways and your doings; if ye throughly execute judgment between a man and his neighbour;
For if you thoroughly amend your ways and your doings, if you thoroughly execute justice between a man and his neighbor;
y dejan de explotar a los huérfanos, las viudas y los extranjeros. Y déjense de homicidios, y de rendirles homenaje a los ídolos, como para su mal hacen ahora.
Ni oprimiereis al peregrino, al huérfano, y á la viuda, ni en este lugar derramareis la sangre inocente, ni anduviereis en pos de dioses ajenos para mal vuestro;
If ye oppress not the stranger, the fatherless, and the widow, and shed not innocent blood in this place, neither walk after other gods to your hurt:
if you don’t oppress the foreigner, the fatherless, and the widow, and don’t shed innocent blood in this place, and don’t walk after other gods to your own hurt,
Así, y sólo así, les dejaré permanecer en esta tierra que di a sus antepasados para siempre.
Os haré morar en este lugar, en la tierra que dí á vuestros padres para siempre.
Then will I cause you to dwell in this place, in the land that I gave to your fathers, for ever and ever.

¡No se engañen! Dejen de confiar en mensajes engañosos y sin fundamento.
He aquí vosotros os confiáis en palabras de mentira, que no aprovechan.
Behold, ye trust in lying words, that cannot profit.

¿De veras piensan que pueden robar, matar, cometer adulterio, mentir y rendir homenaje a Baal y a todos esos nuevos dioses suyos,
¿Hurtando, matando, y adulterando, y jurando falso, é incensando á Baal, y andando tras dioses extraños que no conocisteis,
Will ye steal, murder, and commit adultery, and swear falsely, and burn incense unto Baal, and walk after other gods whom ye know not;
Will you steal, murder, commit adultery, swear falsely, burn incense to Baal, and walk after other gods that you have not known,
y luego venir acá, ponerse ante mí en mi templo y canturrear «¡Salvos somos!», para volver inmediatamente a sus maldades?
Vendréis y os pondréis delante de mí en esta casa sobre la cual es invocado mi nombre, y diréis: Librados somos: para hacer todas estas abominaciones?
And come and stand before me in this house, which is called by my name, and say, We are delivered to do all these abominations?

¿Será mi templo ante sus ojos sólo cueva de ladrones? ¡Pues para mí no es otra cosa ahora que cueva de ladrones!
¿Es cueva de ladrones delante de vuestros ojos esta casa, sobre la cual es invocado mi nombre? He aquí que también yo veo, dice Jehová.
Is this house, which is called by my name, become a den of robbers in your eyes? Behold, even I have seen it, saith the LORD.

Vayan a Siló, la ciudad que primero honré con mi nombre, y vean lo que le hice por culpa de la maldad de mi pueblo Israel.
Andad empero ahora á mi lugar que fué en Silo, donde hice que morase mi nombre al principio, y ved lo que le hice por la maldad de mi pueblo Israel.
But go ye now unto my place which was in Shiloh, where I set my name at the first, and see what I did to it for the wickedness of my people Israel.
“But go now to my place which was in Shiloh, where I caused my name to dwell at the first, and see what I did to it for the wickedness of my people Israel.
Y ahora, dice el Señor, lo mismo haré aquí por todo este mal que ustedes han hecho. Una y otra vez les hablé de ello; con mucha insistencia les llamaba, pero no quisieron oír ni responder a mis advertencias. Por ello destruiré este templo como hice con Siló; este templo que lleva mi nombre, del que creen recibir garantía de seguridad, y este sitio que di a ustedes y a sus antepasados.
Ahora pues, por cuanto habéis vosotros hecho todas estas obras, dice Jehová, y bien que os hablé, madrugando para hablar, no oísteis, y os llamé, y no respondisteis;
And now, because ye have done all these works, saith the LORD, and I spake unto you, rising up early and speaking, but ye heard not; and I called you, but ye answered not;
Now, because you have done all these works,” says the LORD, “and I spoke to you, rising up early and speaking, but you didn’t hear; and I called you, but you didn’t answer;

Haré también á esta casa sobre la cual es invocado mi nombre, en la que vosotros confiáis, y á este lugar que dí á vosotros y á vuestros padres, como hice á Silo:
Therefore will I do unto this house, which is called by my name, wherein ye trust, and unto the place which I gave to you and to your fathers, as I have done to Shiloh.

¡Y los echaré de mi presencia tal como lo hice con sus hermanos, los del pueblo de Efraín!
Que os echaré de mi presencia como eché á todos vuestros hermanos, á toda la generación de Ephraim.
And I will cast you out of my sight, as I have cast out all your brethren, even the whole seed of Ephraim.

No ores más por este pueblo, Jeremías. No llores por ellos ni ores ni supliques que yo les ayude, pues no te atenderé.
Tú pues, no ores por este pueblo, ni levantes por ellos clamor ni oración, ni me ruegues; porque no te oiré.
Therefore pray not thou for this people, neither lift up cry nor prayer for them, neither make intercession to me: for I will not hear thee.
“Therefore don’t pray for this people. Don’t lift up a cry or prayer for them or make intercession to me; for I will not hear you.
¿Acaso no ves todos los delitos que están haciendo por todas las ciudades de Judá y en las calles de Jerusalén?
¿No ves lo que estos hacen en las ciudades de Judá y en las calles de Jerusalem?
Seest thou not what they do in the cities of Judah and in the streets of Jerusalem?
Don’t you see what they do in the cities of Judah and in the streets of Jerusalem?
Tengo mucho motivo para estar enojado. Observa a los niños recogiendo leña, a los padres haciendo fuego y a las mujeres amasando para hacer tortas como ofrenda para la Reina del Cielo y para los demás ídolos.
Los hijos cogen la leña, y los padres encienden el fuego, y las mujeres amasan la masa, para hacer tortas á la reina del cielo y para hacer ofrendas á dioses ajenos, por provocarme á ira.
The children gather wood, and the fathers kindle the fire, and the women knead their dough, to make cakes to the queen of heaven, and to pour out drink offerings unto other gods, that they may provoke me to anger.

¿Es a mí a quien perjudican?, pregunta el Señor. ¡A sí mismos es a quien más dañan, para vergüenza suya!
¿Provocaránme ellos á ira, dice Jehová, y no más bien obran ellos mismos para confusión de sus rostros?
Do they provoke me to anger? saith the LORD: do they not provoke themselves to the confusion of their own faces?
Do they provoke me to anger?” says the LORD. “Don’t they provoke themselves, to the confusion of their own faces?”
Así que el Señor Dios dice: ¡Mi ira, sí, mi cólera derramaré sobre este sitio: personas, animales, árboles y plantas serán consumidos por el fuego de mi ira, que nadie podrá apagar!
Por tanto, así ha dicho el Señor Jehová: He aquí que mi furor y mi ira se derrama sobre este lugar, sobre los hombres, sobre los animales, y sobre los árboles del campo, y sobre los frutos de la tierra; y encenderáse, y no se apagará.
Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD; Behold, mine anger and my fury shall be poured out upon this place, upon man, and upon beast, and upon the trees of the field, and upon the fruit of the ground; and it shall burn, and shall not be quenched.
Therefore the Lord GOD says: “Behold, my anger and my wrath will be poured out on this place, on man, on animal, on the trees of the field, and on the fruit of the ground; and it will burn and will not be quenched.”
El Señor de los ejércitos, el Dios de Israel, dice: ¡Alejen de mí sus ofrendas y sacrificios!
Así ha dicho Jehová de los ejércitos, Dios de Israel: Añadid vuestros holocaustos sobre vuestros sacrificios, y comed carne.
Thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; Put your burnt offerings unto your sacrifices, and eat flesh.
The LORD of Armies, the God of Israel says: “Add your burnt offerings to your sacrifices and eat meat.
No eran ofrendas y sacrificios lo que de sus antepasados quería cuando los saqué de Egipto. No era esa la razón de mi mandamiento.
Porque no hablé yo con vuestros padres, ni les mandé el día que los saqué de la tierra de Egipto, acerca de holocaustos y de víctimas:
For I spake not unto your fathers, nor commanded them in the day that I brought them out of the land of Egypt, concerning burnt offerings or sacrifices:
For I didn’t speak to your fathers or command them in the day that I brought them out of the land of Egypt concerning burnt offerings or sacrifices;
Lo que les dije fue: ¡Sigan mis instrucciones y yo seré su Dios y ustedes serán mi pueblo; basta que hagan lo que les indico y todo les saldrá bien!
Mas esto les mandé, diciendo: Escuchad mi voz, y seré á vosotros por Dios, y vosotros me seréis por pueblo; y andad en todo camino que os mandare, para que os vaya bien.
But this thing commanded I them, saying, Obey my voice, and I will be your God, and ye shall be my people: and walk ye in all the ways that I have commanded you, that it may be well unto you.
but this thing I commanded them, saying, ‘Listen to my voice, and I will be your God, and you shall be my people. Walk in all the way that I command you, that it may be well with you.’
Pero no quisieron escuchar; siguieron haciendo lo que les daba la gana, siguiendo sus pensamientos tercos y malvados. Retrocedieron en vez de avanzar.
Y no oyeron ni inclinaron su oído; antes caminaron en sus consejos, en la dureza de su corazón malvado, y fueron hacia atrás y no hacia adelante,
But they hearkened not, nor inclined their ear, but walked in the counsels and in the imagination of their evil heart, and went backward, and not forward.

Desde el día que sus antepasados salieron de Egipto hasta ahora, he continuado enviándoles mis profetas día tras día.
Desde el día que vuestros padres salieron de la tierra de Egipto hasta hoy. Y os envié á todos los profetas mis siervos, cada día madrugando y enviándolos:
Since the day that your fathers came forth out of the land of Egypt unto this day I have even sent unto you all my servants the prophets, daily rising up early and sending them:

Pero no quisieron escucharles, ni siquiera trataron de poner atención. ¡Son duros, empecinados y rebeldes, peor que sus antepasados!
Mas no me oyeron ni inclinaron su oído; antes endurecieron su cerviz, é hicieron peor que sus padres.
Yet they hearkened not unto me, nor inclined their ear, but hardened their neck: they did worse than their fathers.
Yet they didn’t listen to me or incline their ear, but made their neck stiff. They did worse than their fathers.
Diles cuánto yo les haré, pero no esperes que escuchen. Grita tus advertencias, pero no esperes que respondan.
Tú pues les dirás todas estas palabras, mas no te oirán; aun los llamarás, y no te responderán.
Therefore thou shalt speak all these words unto them; but they will not hearken to thee: thou shalt also call unto them; but they will not answer thee.
“You shall speak all these words to them, but they will not listen to you. You shall also call to them, but they will not answer you.
Diles: ¡Esta es la nación que se niega a obedecer al Señor Dios suyo y rehúsa recibir enseñanza; la que persevera practicando la maldad!
Les dirás por tanto: Esta es la gente que no escuchó la voz de Jehová su Dios, ni tomó corrección; perdióse la fe, y de la boca de ellos fué cortada.
But thou shalt say unto them, This is a nation that obeyeth not the voice of the LORD their God, nor receiveth correction: truth is perished, and is cut off from their mouth.
You shall tell them, ‘This is the nation that has not listened to the LORD their God’s voice, nor received instruction. Truth has perished, and is cut off from their mouth.’
¡Oh Jerusalén, rápate la cabeza en señal de vergüenza y llora solitaria sobre los montes, porque el Señor ha rechazado y abandonado a este pueblo, quien ha provocado su enojo!
Trasquila tu cabello, y arrójalo, y levanta llanto sobre las alturas; porque Jehová ha aborrecido y dejado la nación de su ira.
Cut off thine hair, O Jerusalem, and cast it away, and take up a lamentation on high places; for the LORD hath rejected and forsaken the generation of his wrath.

Porque el pueblo de Judá ha actuado de muy mala manera, dice el Señor. Han colocado sus feos ídolos en mi propio templo, deshonrándolo.
Porque los hijos de Judá han hecho lo malo ante mis ojos, dice Jehová; pusieron sus abominaciones en la casa sobre la cual mi nombre fué invocado, amancillándola.
For the children of Judah have done evil in my sight, saith the LORD: they have set their abominations in the house which is called by my name, to pollute it.
“For the children of Judah have done that which is evil in my sight,” says the LORD. “They have set their abominations in the house which is called by my name, to defile it.
Y han edificado el altar llamado Tofet en el valle de Ben Hinón y allí han hecho morir quemados a sus hijitos e hijitas como sacrificio a sus dioses; ¡algo tan espantoso ni siquiera me hubiera pasado jamás por el pensamiento, y mucho menos lo habría yo ordenado!
Y han edificado los altos de Topheth, que es en el valle del hijo de Hinnom, para quemar al fuego sus hijos y sus hijas, cosa que yo no les mandé, ni subió en mi corazón.
And they have built the high places of Tophet, which is in the valley of the son of Hinnom, to burn their sons and their daughters in the fire; which I commanded them not, neither came it into my heart.

Pronto llegará el tiempo, dice el Señor, cuando el nombre del valle se cambiará de «Tofet» o «Valle de Ben Hinón» a «Valle de la Matanza», pues habrá tantos cadáveres sin sepultar que faltará espacio para todas las tumbas y tendrán que arrojar los cuerpos en fosas comunes.
Por tanto, he aquí vendrán días, ha dicho Jehová, que no se diga más, Topheth, ni valle del hijo de Hinnom, sino Valle de la Matanza; y serán enterrados en Topheth, por no haber lugar.
Therefore, behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that it shall no more be called Tophet, nor the valley of the son of Hinnom, but the valley of slaughter: for they shall bury in Tophet, till there be no place.
Therefore behold, the days come”, says the LORD, “that it will no more be called ‘Topheth’ or ‘The valley of the son of Hinnom’, but ‘The valley of Slaughter’; for they will bury in Topheth until there is no place to bury.
Los cadáveres de mi pueblo serán carroña para las aves y las fieras, pues no quedará ni siquiera quien las espante.
Y serán los cuerpos muertos de este pueblo para comida de las aves del cielo y de las bestias de la tierra; y no habrá quien las espante.
And the carcases of this people shall be meat for the fowls of the heaven, and for the beasts of the earth; and none shall fray them away.
The dead bodies of this people will be food for the birds of the sky, and for the animals of the earth. No one will frighten them away.
Yo acabaré con la alegría y los cantos festivos en las calles de Jerusalén y en las ciudades de Judá, así como con la jubilosa voz de los recién casados, porque la desgracia llenará toda la ciudad y los hogares.
Y haré cesar de las ciudades de Judá, y de la calles de Jerusalem, voz de gozo y voz de alegría, voz de esposo y voz de esposa; porque la tierra será en desolación.
Then will I cause to cease from the cities of Judah, and from the streets of Jerusalem, the voice of mirth, and the voice of gladness, the voice of the bridegroom, and the voice of the bride: for the land shall be desolate.
Then I will cause to cease from the cities of Judah and from the streets of Jerusalem the voice of mirth and the voice of gladness, the voice of the bridegroom and the voice of the bride; for the land will become a waste.”
