1Luego le dijo el Señor a Jeremías:
2Ve a la entrada del templo del Señor y dale al pueblo este mensaje: ¡Oh Judá, escucha este mensaje del Señor! Escúchenlo ustedes, los que vienen aquí a rendir homenaje a Dios.
3El Señor de los ejércitos, el Dios de Israel dice: Aun ahora, si abandonan su mala conducta los dejaré permanecer en su tierra.
4Pero no se dejen engañar por quienes mienten diciendo que por estar aquí el templo del Señor, Dios jamás permitirá que Jerusalén sea destruida.
5Pueden quedarse sólo con estas condiciones: Si abandonan sus malvados pensamientos y actos, y se relacionan entre sí en toda justicia
6y dejan de explotar a los huérfanos, las viudas y los extranjeros. Y déjense de homicidios, y de rendirles homenaje a los ídolos, como para su mal hacen ahora.
7Así, y sólo así, les dejaré permanecer en esta tierra que di a sus antepasados para siempre.
8¡No se engañen! Dejen de confiar en mensajes engañosos y sin fundamento.
9¿De veras piensan que pueden robar, matar, cometer adulterio, mentir y rendir homenaje a Baal y a todos esos nuevos dioses suyos,
10y luego venir acá, ponerse ante mí en mi templo y canturrear «¡Salvos somos!», para volver inmediatamente a sus maldades?
11¿Será mi templo ante sus ojos sólo cueva de ladrones? ¡Pues para mí no es otra cosa ahora que cueva de ladrones!
12Vayan a Siló, la ciudad que primero honré con mi nombre, y vean lo que le hice por culpa de la maldad de mi pueblo Israel.
13Y ahora, dice el Señor, lo mismo haré aquí por todo este mal que ustedes han hecho. Una y otra vez les hablé de ello; con mucha insistencia les llamaba, pero no quisieron oír ni responder a mis advertencias. Por ello destruiré este templo como hice con Siló; este templo que lleva mi nombre, del que creen recibir garantía de seguridad, y este sitio que di a ustedes y a sus antepasados.

15¡Y los echaré de mi presencia tal como lo hice con sus hermanos, los del pueblo de Efraín!
16No ores más por este pueblo, Jeremías. No llores por ellos ni ores ni supliques que yo les ayude, pues no te atenderé.
17¿Acaso no ves todos los delitos que están haciendo por todas las ciudades de Judá y en las calles de Jerusalén?
18Tengo mucho motivo para estar enojado. Observa a los niños recogiendo leña, a los padres haciendo fuego y a las mujeres amasando para hacer tortas como ofrenda para la Reina del Cielo y para los demás ídolos.
19¿Es a mí a quien perjudican?, pregunta el Señor. ¡A sí mismos es a quien más dañan, para vergüenza suya!
20Así que el Señor Dios dice: ¡Mi ira, sí, mi cólera derramaré sobre este sitio: personas, animales, árboles y plantas serán consumidos por el fuego de mi ira, que nadie podrá apagar!
21El Señor de los ejércitos, el Dios de Israel, dice: ¡Alejen de mí sus ofrendas y sacrificios!
22No eran ofrendas y sacrificios lo que de sus antepasados quería cuando los saqué de Egipto. No era esa la razón de mi mandamiento.
23Lo que les dije fue: ¡Sigan mis instrucciones y yo seré su Dios y ustedes serán mi pueblo; basta que hagan lo que les indico y todo les saldrá bien!
24Pero no quisieron escuchar; siguieron haciendo lo que les daba la gana, siguiendo sus pensamientos tercos y malvados. Retrocedieron en vez de avanzar.
25Desde el día que sus antepasados salieron de Egipto hasta ahora, he continuado enviándoles mis profetas día tras día.
26Pero no quisieron escucharles, ni siquiera trataron de poner atención. ¡Son duros, empecinados y rebeldes, peor que sus antepasados!
27Diles cuánto yo les haré, pero no esperes que escuchen. Grita tus advertencias, pero no esperes que respondan.
28Diles: ¡Esta es la nación que se niega a obedecer al Señor Dios suyo y rehúsa recibir enseñanza; la que persevera practicando la maldad!
29¡Oh Jerusalén, rápate la cabeza en señal de vergüenza y llora solitaria sobre los montes, porque el Señor ha rechazado y abandonado a este pueblo, quien ha provocado su enojo!
30Porque el pueblo de Judá ha actuado de muy mala manera, dice el Señor. Han colocado sus feos ídolos en mi propio templo, deshonrándolo.
31Y han edificado el altar llamado Tofet en el valle de Ben Hinón y allí han hecho morir quemados a sus hijitos e hijitas como sacrificio a sus dioses; ¡algo tan espantoso ni siquiera me hubiera pasado jamás por el pensamiento, y mucho menos lo habría yo ordenado!
32Pronto llegará el tiempo, dice el Señor, cuando el nombre del valle se cambiará de «Tofet» o «Valle de Ben Hinón» a «Valle de la Matanza», pues habrá tantos cadáveres sin sepultar que faltará espacio para todas las tumbas y tendrán que arrojar los cuerpos en fosas comunes.
33Los cadáveres de mi pueblo serán carroña para las aves y las fieras, pues no quedará ni siquiera quien las espante.
34Yo acabaré con la alegría y los cantos festivos en las calles de Jerusalén y en las ciudades de Judá, así como con la jubilosa voz de los recién casados, porque la desgracia llenará toda la ciudad y los hogares.

1PALABRA que fué de Jehová á Jeremías, diciendo:
2Ponte á la puerta de la casa de Jehová, y predica allí esta palabra, y di: Oid palabra de Jehová, todo Judá, los que entráis por estas puertas para adorar á Jehová.
3Así ha dicho Jehová de los ejércitos, Dios de Israel: Mejorad vuestros caminos y vuestras obras, y os haré morar en este lugar.
4No fiéis en palabras de mentira, diciendo: Templo de Jehová, templo de Jehová, templo de Jehová es éste.
5Mas si mejorareis cumplidamente vuestros caminos y vuestras obras; si con exactitud hiciereis derecho entre el hombre y su prójimo,
6Ni oprimiereis al peregrino, al huérfano, y á la viuda, ni en este lugar derramareis la sangre inocente, ni anduviereis en pos de dioses ajenos para mal vuestro;
7Os haré morar en este lugar, en la tierra que dí á vuestros padres para siempre.
8He aquí vosotros os confiáis en palabras de mentira, que no aprovechan.
9¿Hurtando, matando, y adulterando, y jurando falso, é incensando á Baal, y andando tras dioses extraños que no conocisteis,
10Vendréis y os pondréis delante de mí en esta casa sobre la cual es invocado mi nombre, y diréis: Librados somos: para hacer todas estas abominaciones?
11¿Es cueva de ladrones delante de vuestros ojos esta casa, sobre la cual es invocado mi nombre? He aquí que también yo veo, dice Jehová.
12Andad empero ahora á mi lugar que fué en Silo, donde hice que morase mi nombre al principio, y ved lo que le hice por la maldad de mi pueblo Israel.
13Ahora pues, por cuanto habéis vosotros hecho todas estas obras, dice Jehová, y bien que os hablé, madrugando para hablar, no oísteis, y os llamé, y no respondisteis;
14Haré también á esta casa sobre la cual es invocado mi nombre, en la que vosotros confiáis, y á este lugar que dí á vosotros y á vuestros padres, como hice á Silo:
15Que os echaré de mi presencia como eché á todos vuestros hermanos, á toda la generación de Ephraim.
16Tú pues, no ores por este pueblo, ni levantes por ellos clamor ni oración, ni me ruegues; porque no te oiré.
17¿No ves lo que estos hacen en las ciudades de Judá y en las calles de Jerusalem?
18Los hijos cogen la leña, y los padres encienden el fuego, y las mujeres amasan la masa, para hacer tortas á la reina del cielo y para hacer ofrendas á dioses ajenos, por provocarme á ira.
19¿Provocaránme ellos á ira, dice Jehová, y no más bien obran ellos mismos para confusión de sus rostros?
20Por tanto, así ha dicho el Señor Jehová: He aquí que mi furor y mi ira se derrama sobre este lugar, sobre los hombres, sobre los animales, y sobre los árboles del campo, y sobre los frutos de la tierra; y encenderáse, y no se apagará.
21Así ha dicho Jehová de los ejércitos, Dios de Israel: Añadid vuestros holocaustos sobre vuestros sacrificios, y comed carne.
22Porque no hablé yo con vuestros padres, ni les mandé el día que los saqué de la tierra de Egipto, acerca de holocaustos y de víctimas:
23Mas esto les mandé, diciendo: Escuchad mi voz, y seré á vosotros por Dios, y vosotros me seréis por pueblo; y andad en todo camino que os mandare, para que os vaya bien.
24Y no oyeron ni inclinaron su oído; antes caminaron en sus consejos, en la dureza de su corazón malvado, y fueron hacia atrás y no hacia adelante,
25Desde el día que vuestros padres salieron de la tierra de Egipto hasta hoy. Y os envié á todos los profetas mis siervos, cada día madrugando y enviándolos:
26Mas no me oyeron ni inclinaron su oído; antes endurecieron su cerviz, é hicieron peor que sus padres.
27Tú pues les dirás todas estas palabras, mas no te oirán; aun los llamarás, y no te responderán.
28Les dirás por tanto: Esta es la gente que no escuchó la voz de Jehová su Dios, ni tomó corrección; perdióse la fe, y de la boca de ellos fué cortada.
29Trasquila tu cabello, y arrójalo, y levanta llanto sobre las alturas; porque Jehová ha aborrecido y dejado la nación de su ira.
30Porque los hijos de Judá han hecho lo malo ante mis ojos, dice Jehová; pusieron sus abominaciones en la casa sobre la cual mi nombre fué invocado, amancillándola.
31Y han edificado los altos de Topheth, que es en el valle del hijo de Hinnom, para quemar al fuego sus hijos y sus hijas, cosa que yo no les mandé, ni subió en mi corazón.
32Por tanto, he aquí vendrán días, ha dicho Jehová, que no se diga más, Topheth, ni valle del hijo de Hinnom, sino Valle de la Matanza; y serán enterrados en Topheth, por no haber lugar.
33Y serán los cuerpos muertos de este pueblo para comida de las aves del cielo y de las bestias de la tierra; y no habrá quien las espante.
34Y haré cesar de las ciudades de Judá, y de la calles de Jerusalem, voz de gozo y voz de alegría, voz de esposo y voz de esposa; porque la tierra será en desolación.
King James Version
1The word that came to Jeremiah from the LORD, saying,
2Stand in the gate of the LORD’s house, and proclaim there this word, and say, Hear the word of the LORD, all ye of Judah, that enter in at these gates to worship the LORD.
3Thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel, Amend your ways and your doings, and I will cause you to dwell in this place.
4Trust ye not in lying words, saying, The temple of the LORD, The temple of the LORD, The temple of the LORD, are these.
5For if ye throughly amend your ways and your doings; if ye throughly execute judgment between a man and his neighbour;
6If ye oppress not the stranger, the fatherless, and the widow, and shed not innocent blood in this place, neither walk after other gods to your hurt:
7Then will I cause you to dwell in this place, in the land that I gave to your fathers, for ever and ever.
8Behold, ye trust in lying words, that cannot profit.
9Will ye steal, murder, and commit adultery, and swear falsely, and burn incense unto Baal, and walk after other gods whom ye know not;
10And come and stand before me in this house, which is called by my name, and say, We are delivered to do all these abominations?
11Is this house, which is called by my name, become a den of robbers in your eyes? Behold, even I have seen it, saith the LORD.
12But go ye now unto my place which was in Shiloh, where I set my name at the first, and see what I did to it for the wickedness of my people Israel.
13And now, because ye have done all these works, saith the LORD, and I spake unto you, rising up early and speaking, but ye heard not; and I called you, but ye answered not;
14Therefore will I do unto this house, which is called by my name, wherein ye trust, and unto the place which I gave to you and to your fathers, as I have done to Shiloh.
15And I will cast you out of my sight, as I have cast out all your brethren, even the whole seed of Ephraim.
16Therefore pray not thou for this people, neither lift up cry nor prayer for them, neither make intercession to me: for I will not hear thee.
17Seest thou not what they do in the cities of Judah and in the streets of Jerusalem?
18The children gather wood, and the fathers kindle the fire, and the women knead their dough, to make cakes to the queen of heaven, and to pour out drink offerings unto other gods, that they may provoke me to anger.
19Do they provoke me to anger? saith the LORD: do they not provoke themselves to the confusion of their own faces?
20Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD; Behold, mine anger and my fury shall be poured out upon this place, upon man, and upon beast, and upon the trees of the field, and upon the fruit of the ground; and it shall burn, and shall not be quenched.
21Thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; Put your burnt offerings unto your sacrifices, and eat flesh.
22For I spake not unto your fathers, nor commanded them in the day that I brought them out of the land of Egypt, concerning burnt offerings or sacrifices:
23But this thing commanded I them, saying, Obey my voice, and I will be your God, and ye shall be my people: and walk ye in all the ways that I have commanded you, that it may be well unto you.
24But they hearkened not, nor inclined their ear, but walked in the counsels and in the imagination of their evil heart, and went backward, and not forward.
25Since the day that your fathers came forth out of the land of Egypt unto this day I have even sent unto you all my servants the prophets, daily rising up early and sending them:
26Yet they hearkened not unto me, nor inclined their ear, but hardened their neck: they did worse than their fathers.
27Therefore thou shalt speak all these words unto them; but they will not hearken to thee: thou shalt also call unto them; but they will not answer thee.
28But thou shalt say unto them, This is a nation that obeyeth not the voice of the LORD their God, nor receiveth correction: truth is perished, and is cut off from their mouth.
29Cut off thine hair, O Jerusalem, and cast it away, and take up a lamentation on high places; for the LORD hath rejected and forsaken the generation of his wrath.
30For the children of Judah have done evil in my sight, saith the LORD: they have set their abominations in the house which is called by my name, to pollute it.
31And they have built the high places of Tophet, which is in the valley of the son of Hinnom, to burn their sons and their daughters in the fire; which I commanded them not, neither came it into my heart.
32Therefore, behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that it shall no more be called Tophet, nor the valley of the son of Hinnom, but the valley of slaughter: for they shall bury in Tophet, till there be no place.
33And the carcases of this people shall be meat for the fowls of the heaven, and for the beasts of the earth; and none shall fray them away.
34Then will I cause to cease from the cities of Judah, and from the streets of Jerusalem, the voice of mirth, and the voice of gladness, the voice of the bridegroom, and the voice of the bride: for the land shall be desolate.

1The word that came to Jeremiah from the LORD, saying,
2“Stand in the gate of the LORD’s house, and proclaim this word there, and say, ‘Hear the LORD’s word, all you of Judah, who enter in at these gates to worship the LORD.’”
3The LORD of Armies, the God of Israel says, “Amend your ways and your doings, and I will cause you to dwell in this place.
4Don’t trust in lying words, saying, ‘The LORD’s temple, the LORD’s temple, the LORD’s temple, are these.’
5For if you thoroughly amend your ways and your doings, if you thoroughly execute justice between a man and his neighbor;
6if you don’t oppress the foreigner, the fatherless, and the widow, and don’t shed innocent blood in this place, and don’t walk after other gods to your own hurt,
7then I will cause you to dwell in this place, in the land that I gave to your fathers, from of old even forever more.
8Behold, you trust in lying words that can’t profit.

22For I didn’t speak to your fathers or command them in the day that I brought them out of the land of Egypt concerning burnt offerings or sacrifices;
23but this thing I commanded them, saying, ‘Listen to my voice, and I will be your God, and you shall be my people. Walk in all the way that I command you, that it may be well with you.’
24But they didn’t listen or turn their ear, but walked in their own counsels and in the stubbornness of their evil heart, and went backward, and not forward.
25Since the day that your fathers came out of the land of Egypt to this day, I have sent to you all my servants the prophets, daily rising up early and sending them.
26Yet they didn’t listen to me or incline their ear, but made their neck stiff. They did worse than their fathers.
27“You shall speak all these words to them, but they will not listen to you. You shall also call to them, but they will not answer you.
28You shall tell them, ‘This is the nation that has not listened to the LORD their God’s voice, nor received instruction. Truth has perished, and is cut off from their mouth.’
29Cut off your hair, and throw it away, and take up a lamentation on the bare heights; for the LORD has rejected and forsaken the generation of his wrath.
30“For the children of Judah have done that which is evil in my sight,” says the LORD. “They have set their abominations in the house which is called by my name, to defile it.
31They have built the high places of Topheth, which is in the valley of the son of Hinnom, to burn their sons and their daughters in the fire, which I didn’t command, nor did it come into my mind.
32Therefore behold, the days come”, says the LORD, “that it will no more be called ‘Topheth’ or ‘The valley of the son of Hinnom’, but ‘The valley of Slaughter’; for they will bury in Topheth until there is no place to bury.
33The dead bodies of this people will be food for the birds of the sky, and for the animals of the earth. No one will frighten them away.
34Then I will cause to cease from the cities of Judah and from the streets of Jerusalem the voice of mirth and the voice of gladness, the voice of the bridegroom and the voice of the bride; for the land will become a waste.”
