Ich wußte wohl, daß du mich allezeit erhörst; aber um des Volkes willen, das hier rings (um mich) steht, habe ich’s gesagt, damit sie zum Glauben kommen, daß du mich gesandt hast.«

Que yo sabía que siempre me oyes; mas por causa de la compañía que está alrededor, lo dije, para que crean que tú me has enviado.

And I knew that thou hearest me always: but because of the people which stand by I said it, that they may believe that thou hast sent me.

I know that you always listen to me, but because of the multitude standing around I said this, that they may believe that you sent me.”
