Or il y avait un certain homme malade, appelé Lazare, qui était de Béthanie, la bourgade de Marie et de Marthe sa soeur.

ESTABA entonces enfermo uno llamado Lázaro, de Bethania, la aldea de María y de Marta su hermana.

Now a certain man was sick, named Lazarus, of Bethany, the town of Mary and her sister Martha.

Et Marie était celle qui oignit le Seigneur d’une huile odoriférante, et qui essuya ses pieds de ses cheveux ; et Lazare qui était malade, était son frère.

(It was that Mary which anointed the Lord with ointment, and wiped his feet with her hair, whose brother Lazarus was sick.)

Ses soeurs donc envoyèrent vers lui, pour lui dire : Seigneur, voici, celui que tu aimes, est malade.

Enviaron, pues, sus hermanas á él, diciendo: Señor, he aquí, el que amas está enfermo.

Therefore his sisters sent unto him, saying, Lord, behold, he whom thou lovest is sick.

The sisters therefore sent to him, saying, “Lord, behold, he for whom you have great affection is sick.”

Et Jésus l’ayant entendu, dit : cette maladie n’est point à la mort, mais pour la gloire de Dieu, afin que le Fils de Dieu soit glorifié par elle.

Y oyéndolo Jesús, dijo: Esta enfermedad no es para muerte, mas por gloria de Dios, para que el Hijo de Dios sea glorificado por ella.

When Jesus heard that, he said, This sickness is not unto death, but for the glory of God, that the Son of God might be glorified thereby.

But when Jesus heard it, he said, “This sickness is not to death, but for the glory of God, that God’s Son may be glorified by it.”

Or Jésus aimait Marthe, et sa soeur, et Lazare.

Y amaba Jesús á Marta, y á su hermana, y á Lázaro.

Et après qu’il eut entendu que Lazare était malade, il demeura deux jours au même lieu où il était.

Como oyó pues que estaba enfermo, quedóse aún dos días en aquel lugar donde estaba.

When he had heard therefore that he was sick, he abode two days still in the same place where he was.

Et après cela il dit à ses Disciples : retournons en Judée.

Luego, después de esto, dijo á los discípulos: Vamos á Judea otra vez.

Then after that saith he to his disciples, Let us go into Judæa again.

Then after this he said to the disciples, “Let’s go into Judea again.”

Les Disciples lui dirent : Maître, il n’y a que peu de temps, que les Juifs cherchaient à te lapider, et tu y vas encore !

Dícenle los discípulos: Rabbí, ahora procuraban los Judíos apedrearte, ¿y otra vez vas allá?

His disciples say unto him, Master, the Jews of late sought to stone thee; and goest thou thither again?

The disciples asked him, “Rabbi, the Jews were just trying to stone you. Are you going there again?”

Jésus répondit : n’y a-t-il pas douze heures au jour ? si quelqu’un marche de jour, il ne bronche point ; car il voit la lumière de ce monde.

Respondió Jesús: ¿No tiene el día doce horas? El que anduviere de día, no tropieza, porque ve la luz de este mundo.

Jesus answered, Are there not twelve hours in the day? If any man walk in the day, he stumbleth not, because he seeth the light of this world.

Jesus answered, “Aren’t there twelve hours of daylight? If a man walks in the day, he doesn’t stumble, because he sees the light of this world.

Mais si quelqu’un marche de nuit, il bronche ; car il n’y a point de lumière avec lui.

Mas el que anduviere de noche, tropieza, porque no hay luz en él.

But if a man walk in the night, he stumbleth, because there is no light in him.

But if a man walks in the night, he stumbles, because the light isn’t in him.”

Il dit ces choses, et puis il leur dit : Lazare notre ami dort ; mais j’y vais pour l’éveiller.

Dicho esto, díceles después: Lázaro nuestro amigo duerme; mas voy á despertarle del sueño.

These things said he: and after that he saith unto them, Our friend Lazarus sleepeth; but I go, that I may awake him out of sleep.

He said these things, and after that, he said to them, “Our friend Lazarus has fallen asleep, but I am going so that I may awake him out of sleep.”

Et ses Disciples lui dirent : Seigneur, s’il dort il sera guéri.

Dijeron entonces sus discípulos: Señor, si duerme, salvo estará.

Then said his disciples, Lord, if he sleep, he shall do well.

The disciples therefore said, “Lord, if he has fallen asleep, he will recover.”

Or Jésus avait dit cela de sa mort ; mais ils pensaient qu’il parlât du dormir du sommeil.

Mas esto decía Jesús de la muerte de él: y ellos pensaron que hablaba del reposar del sueño.

Howbeit Jesus spake of his death: but they thought that he had spoken of taking of rest in sleep.

Now Jesus had spoken of his death, but they thought that he spoke of taking rest in sleep.

Jésus leur dit donc alors ouvertement : Lazare est mort,

Entonces, pues, Jesús les dijo claramente: Lázaro es muerto;

Then said Jesus unto them plainly, Lazarus is dead.

So Jesus said to them plainly then, “Lazarus is dead.

Et j’ai de la joie pour l’amour de vous de ce que je n’y étais point ; afin que vous croyiez ; mais allons vers lui.

Y huélgome por vosotros, que yo no haya estado allí, para que creáis: mas vamos á él.

And I am glad for your sakes that I was not there, to the intent ye may believe; nevertheless let us go unto him.

I am glad for your sakes that I was not there, so that you may believe. Nevertheless, let’s go to him.”

Alors Thomas, appelé Didyme, dit à ses condisciples : allons-y aussi, afin que nous mourions avec lui.

Dijo entonces Tomás, el que se dice el Dídimo, á sus condiscípulos: Vamos también nosotros, para que muramos con él.

Then said Thomas, which is called Didymus, unto his fellowdisciples, Let us also go, that we may die with him.

Thomas therefore, who is called Didymus, said to his fellow disciples, “Let’s also go, that we may die with him.”

Jésus y étant donc arrivé, trouva que Lazare était déjà depuis quatre jours au sépulcre.

Vino pues Jesús, y halló que había ya cuatro días que estaba en el sepulcro.

Then when Jesus came, he found that he had lain in the grave four days already.

So when Jesus came, he found that he had been in the tomb four days already.

Or Béthanie n’était éloignée de Jérusalem que d’environ quinze stades.

Y Bethania estaba cerca de Jerusalem, como quince estadios;

Now Bethany was nigh unto Jerusalem, about fifteen furlongs off:

Now Bethany was near Jerusalem, about fifteen stadia away.

Et plusieurs des Juifs étaient venus vers Marthe et Marie pour les consoler au sujet de leur frère.

Y muchos de los Judíos habían venido á Marta y á María, á consolarlas de su hermano.

And many of the Jews came to Martha and Mary, to comfort them concerning their brother.

Many of the Jews had joined the women around Martha and Mary, to console them concerning their brother.

Et quand Marthe eut ouï dire que Jésus venait, elle alla au-devant de lui ; mais Marie se tenait assise à la maison.

Entonces Marta, como oyó que Jesús venía, salió á encontrarle; mas María se estuvo en casa.

Then Martha, as soon as she heard that Jesus was coming, went and met him: but Mary sat still in the house.

Then when Martha heard that Jesus was coming, she went and met him, but Mary stayed in the house.

Et Marthe dit à Jésus : Seigneur, si tu eusses été ici mon frère ne fût pas mort.

Y Marta dijo á Jesús: Señor, si hubieses estado aquí, mi hermano no fuera muerto;

Then said Martha unto Jesus, Lord, if thou hadst been here, my brother had not died.

Therefore Martha said to Jesus, “Lord, if you would have been here, my brother wouldn’t have died.

Mais maintenant je sais que tout ce que tu demanderas à Dieu, Dieu te le donnera.

Mas también sé ahora, que todo lo que pidieres de Dios, te dará Dios.

But I know, that even now, whatsoever thou wilt ask of God, God will give it thee.

Even now I know that whatever you ask of God, God will give you.”

Jésus lui dit : ton frère ressuscitera.

Dícele Jesús: Resucitará tu hermano.

Jesus saith unto her, Thy brother shall rise again.

Jesus said to her, “Your brother will rise again.”

Marthe lui dit : je sais qu’il ressuscitera en la résurrection au dernier jour.

Marta le dice: Yo sé que resucitará en la resurrección en el día postrero.

Martha saith unto him, I know that he shall rise again in the resurrection at the last day.

Martha said to him, “I know that he will rise again in the resurrection at the last day.”

Jésus lui dit : je suis la résurrection et la vie : celui qui croit en moi, encore qu’il soit mort, il vivra.

Dícele Jesús: Yo soy la resurrección y la vida: el que cree en mí, aunque esté muerto, vivirá.

Jesus said unto her, I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live:

Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in me will still live, even if he dies.

Et quiconque vit, et croit en moi, ne mourra jamais ; crois-tu cela ?

Y todo aquel que vive y cree en mí, no morirá eternamente. ¿Crees esto?

And whosoever liveth and believeth in me shall never die. Believest thou this?

Whoever lives and believes in me will never die. Do you believe this?”

Elle lui dit : oui, Seigneur, je crois que tu es le Christ, le Fils de Dieu, qui devait venir au monde.

Dícele: Sí, Señor; yo he creído que tú eres el Cristo, el Hijo de Dios, que has venido al mundo.

She saith unto him, Yea, Lord: I believe that thou art the Christ, the Son of God, which should come into the world.

She said to him, “Yes, Lord. I have come to believe that you are the Christ, God’s Son, he who comes into the world.”

Et quand elle eut dit cela, elle alla appeler secrètement Marie sa soeur, en lui disant : le Maître est ici, et il t’appelle.

Y esto dicho, fuése, y llamó en secreto á María su hermana, diciendo: El Maestro está aquí y te llama.

And when she had so said, she went her way, and called Mary her sister secretly, saying, The Master is come, and calleth for thee.

When she had said this, she went away and called Mary, her sister, secretly, saying, “The Teacher is here and is calling you.”

Et aussitôt qu’elle l’eut entendu, elle se leva promptement, et s’en vint à lui.

Ella, como lo oyó, levántase prestamente y viene á él.

As soon as she heard that, she arose quickly, and came unto him.

When she heard this, she arose quickly and went to him.

Or Jésus n’était point encore venu à la bourgade, mais il était au lieu où Marthe l’avait rencontré.

(Que aun no había llegado Jesús á la aldea, mas estaba en aquel lugar donde Marta le había encontrado.)

Now Jesus was not yet come into the town, but was in that place where Martha met him.

Now Jesus had not yet come into the village, but was in the place where Martha met him.

Alors les Juifs qui étaient avec Marie à la maison, et qui la consolaient ayant vu qu’elle s’était levée si promptement, et qu’elle était sortie, la suivirent, en disant : elle s’en va au sépulcre, pour y pleurer.

Entonces los Judíos que estaban en casa con ella, y la consolaban, como vieron que María se había levantado prestamente, y había salido, siguiéronla, diciendo: Va al sepulcro á llorar allí.

The Jews then which were with her in the house, and comforted her, when they saw Mary, that she rose up hastily and went out, followed her, saying, She goeth unto the grave to weep there.

Then the Jews who were with her in the house and were consoling her, when they saw Mary, that she rose up quickly and went out, followed her, saying, “She is going to the tomb to weep there.”

Quand donc Marie fut venue où était Jésus, l’ayant vu, elle se jeta à ses pieds, en lui disant : Seigneur, si tu eusses été ici, mon frère ne fût pas mort.

Mas María, como vino donde estaba Jesús, viéndole, derribóse á sus pies, diciéndole: Señor, si hubieras estado aquí, no fuera muerto mi hermano.

Then when Mary was come where Jesus was, and saw him, she fell down at his feet, saying unto him, Lord, if thou hadst been here, my brother had not died.

Therefore when Mary came to where Jesus was and saw him, she fell down at his feet, saying to him, “Lord, if you would have been here, my brother wouldn’t have died.”

Et quand Jésus la vit pleurer, de même que les Juifs qui étaient venus là avec elle, il frémit en son esprit, et s’émut.

Jesús entonces, como la vió llorando, y á los Judíos que habían venido juntamente con ella llorando, se conmovió en espíritu, y turbóse,

When Jesus therefore saw her weeping, and the Jews also weeping which came with her, he groaned in the spirit, and was troubled,

Et il dit : où l’avez-vous mis ? Ils lui répondirent : Seigneur, viens, et vois.

And said, Where have ye laid him? They said unto him, Lord, come and see.

and said, “Where have you laid him?” They told him, “Lord, come and see.”

Et Jésus pleura.

Y lloró Jesús.

Sur quoi les Juifs dirent : voyez comme il l’aimait.

Dijeron entonces los Judíos: Mirad cómo le amaba.

Then said the Jews, Behold how he loved him!

The Jews therefore said, “See how much affection he had for him!”

Et quelques-uns d’entre eux disaient : celui-ci qui a ouvert les yeux de l’aveugle, ne pouvait-il pas faire aussi que cet homme ne mourût point ?

Y algunos de ellos dijeron: ¿No podía éste que abrió los ojos al ciego, hacer que éste no muriera?

And some of them said, Could not this man, which opened the eyes of the blind, have caused that even this man should not have died?

Some of them said, “Couldn’t this man, who opened the eyes of him who was blind, have also kept this man from dying?”

Alors Jésus frémissant encore en soi même, vint au sépulcre, (or c’était une grotte, et il y avait une pierre mise dessus).

Y Jesús, conmoviéndose otra vez en sí mismo, vino al sepulcro. Era una cueva, la cual tenía una piedra encima.

Jesus therefore again groaning in himself cometh to the grave. It was a cave, and a stone lay upon it.

Jésus dit : levez la pierre. Mais Marthe, la soeur du mort, lui dit : Seigneur, il sent déjà : car il est là depuis quatre jours.

Dice Jesús: Quitad la piedra. Marta, la hermana del que se había muerto, le dice: Señor, hiede ya, que es de cuatro días.

Jesus said, Take ye away the stone. Martha, the sister of him that was dead, saith unto him, Lord, by this time he stinketh: for he hath been dead four days.

Jesus said, “Take away the stone.” Martha, the sister of him who was dead, said to him, “Lord, by this time there is a stench, for he has been dead four days.”

Jésus lui dit : ne t’ai-je pas dit que si tu crois tu verras la gloire de Dieu ?

Jesús le dice: ¿No te he dicho que, si creyeres, verás la gloria de Dios?

Jesus saith unto her, Said I not unto thee, that, if thou wouldest believe, thou shouldest see the glory of God?

Jesus said to her, “Didn’t I tell you that if you believed, you would see God’s glory?”

Ils levèrent donc la pierre de dessus le lieu où le mort était couché. Et Jésus levant ses yeux au ciel, dit : Père, je te rends grâces de ce que tu m’as exaucé.

Entonces quitaron la piedra de donde el muerto había sido puesto. Y Jesús, alzando los ojos arriba, dijo: Padre, gracias te doy que me has oído.

Then they took away the stone from the place where the dead was laid. And Jesus lifted up his eyes, and said, Father, I thank thee that thou hast heard me.

So they took away the stone from the place where the dead man was lying. Jesus lifted up his eyes and said, “Father, I thank you that you listened to me.

Or je savais bien que tu m’exauces toujours ; mais je l’ai dit à cause des troupes qui sont autour de moi, afin qu’elles croient que tu m’as envoyé.

Que yo sabía que siempre me oyes; mas por causa de la compañía que está alrededor, lo dije, para que crean que tú me has enviado.

And I knew that thou hearest me always: but because of the people which stand by I said it, that they may believe that thou hast sent me.

I know that you always listen to me, but because of the multitude standing around I said this, that they may believe that you sent me.”

Et ayant dit ces choses, il cria à haute voix : Lazare sors dehors.

Y habiendo dicho estas cosas, clamó á gran voz: Lázaro, ven fuera.

And when he thus had spoken, he cried with a loud voice, Lazarus, come forth.

When he had said this, he cried with a loud voice, “Lazarus, come out!”

Alors le mort sortit, ayant les mains et les pieds liés de bandes ; et son visage était enveloppé d’un couvre-chef. Jésus leur dit : déliez-le, et laissez-le aller.

Y el que había estado muerto, salió, atadas las manos y los pies con vendas; y su rostro estaba envuelto en un sudario. Díceles Jesús: Desatadle, y dejadle ir.

And he that was dead came forth, bound hand and foot with graveclothes: and his face was bound about with a napkin. Jesus saith unto them, Loose him, and let him go.

He who was dead came out, bound hand and foot with wrappings, and his face was wrapped around with a cloth. Jesus said to them, “Free him, and let him go.”

C’est pourquoi plusieurs des Juifs qui étaient venus vers Marie, et qui avaient vu ce que Jésus avait fait, crurent en lui.

Entonces muchos de los Judíos que habían venido á María, y habían visto lo que había hecho Jesús, creyeron en él.

Then many of the Jews which came to Mary, and had seen the things which Jesus did, believed on him.

Therefore many of the Jews who came to Mary and saw what Jesus did believed in him.

Mais quelques-uns d’entre eux s’en allèrent aux Pharisiens, et leur dirent les choses que Jésus avait faites.

Mas algunos de ellos fueron á los Fariseos, y dijéronles lo que Jesús había hecho.

But some of them went their ways to the Pharisees, and told them what things Jesus had done.

But some of them went away to the Pharisees and told them the things which Jesus had done.

Alors les principaux Sacrificateurs et les Pharisiens assemblèrent le Conseil, et ils dirent : que faisons-nous ? car cet homme fait beaucoup de miracles.

Entonces los pontífices y los Fariseos juntaron concilio, y decían: ¿Qué hacemos? porque este hombre hace muchas señales.

Then gathered the chief priests and the Pharisees a council, and said, What do we? for this man doeth many miracles.

The chief priests therefore and the Pharisees gathered a council, and said, “What are we doing? For this man does many signs.

Si nous le laissons faire, chacun croira en lui, et les Romains viendront, qui nous extermineront, nous, et le Lieu, et la Nation.

Si le dejamos así, todos creerán en él: y vendrán los Romanos, y quitarán nuestro lugar y la nación.

If we let him thus alone, all men will believe on him: and the Romans shall come and take away both our place and nation.

If we leave him alone like this, everyone will believe in him, and the Romans will come and take away both our place and our nation.”

Alors l’un d’eux appelé Caïphe, qui était le souverain Sacrificateur de cette année là, leur dit : vous n’y entendez rien.

Y Caifás, uno de ellos, sumo pontífice de aquel año, les dijo: Vosotros no sabéis nada;

And one of them, named Caiaphas, being the high priest that same year, said unto them, Ye know nothing at all,

But a certain one of them, Caiaphas, being high priest that year, said to them, “You know nothing at all,

Et vous ne considérez pas qu’il est de notre intérêt qu’un homme meure pour le peuple, et que toute la Nation ne périsse point.

Ni pensáis que nos conviene que un hombre muera por el pueblo, y no que toda la nación se pierda.

Nor consider that it is expedient for us, that one man should die for the people, and that the whole nation perish not.

nor do you consider that it is advantageous for us that one man should die for the people, and that the whole nation not perish.”

Or il ne dit pas cela de lui-même, mais étant souverain Sacrificateur de cette année-là, il prophétisa que Jésus devait mourir pour la Nation.

Mas esto no lo dijo de sí mismo; sino que, como era el sumo pontífice de aquel año, profetizó que Jesús había de morir por la nación:

And this spake he not of himself: but being high priest that year, he prophesied that Jesus should die for that nation;

Now he didn’t say this of himself, but being high priest that year, he prophesied that Jesus would die for the nation,

Et non pas seulement pour la Nation, mais aussi pour assembler les enfants de Dieu, qui étaient dispersés.

Y no solamente por aquella nación, mas también para que juntase en uno los hijos de Dios que estaban derramados.

And not for that nation only, but that also he should gather together in one the children of God that were scattered abroad.

and not for the nation only, but that he might also gather together into one the children of God who are scattered abroad.

Depuis ce jour-là donc ils consultèrent ensemble pour le faire mourir.

Así que, desde aquel día consultaban juntos de matarle.

Then from that day forth they took counsel together for to put him to death.

So from that day forward they took counsel that they might put him to death.

C’est pourquoi Jésus ne marchait plus ouvertement parmi les Juifs, mais il s’en alla de là dans la contrée qui est près du désert, en une ville appelée Ephraïm, et il demeura là avec ses Disciples.

Por tanto, Jesús ya no andaba manifiestamente entre los Judíos; mas fuése de allí á la tierra que está junto al desierto, á una ciudad que se llama Ephraim: y estábase allí con sus discípulos.

Jesus therefore walked no more openly among the Jews; but went thence unto a country near to the wilderness, into a city called Ephraim, and there continued with his disciples.

Or la Pâque des Juifs était proche, et plusieurs de ces pays-là montèrent à Jérusalem avant Pâque, afin de se purifier.

Y la Pascua de los Judíos estaba cerca: y muchos subieron de aquella tierra á Jerusalem antes de la Pascua, para purificarse;

And the Jews’ passover was nigh at hand: and many went out of the country up to Jerusalem before the passover, to purify themselves.

Now the Passover of the Jews was at hand. Many went up from the country to Jerusalem before the Passover, to purify themselves.

Et ils cherchaient Jésus, et se disaient l’un à l’autre dans le Temple : que vous semble ? croyez-vous qu’il ne viendra point à la Fête ?

Y buscaban á Jesús, y hablaban los unos con los otros estando en el templo: ¿Qué os parece, que no vendrá á la fiesta?

Then sought they for Jesus, and spake among themselves, as they stood in the temple, What think ye, that he will not come to the feast?

Then they sought for Jesus and spoke with one another as they stood in the temple, “What do you think—that he isn’t coming to the feast at all?”

Or les principaux Sacrificateurs et les Pharisiens avaient donné ordre, que si quelqu’un savait où il était, il le déclarât, afin de se saisir de lui.

Y los pontífices y los Fariseos habían dado mandamiento, que si alguno supiese dónde estuviera, lo manifestase, para que le prendiesen.

Now both the chief priests and the Pharisees had given a commandment, that, if any man knew where he were, he should shew it, that they might take him.

Now the chief priests and the Pharisees had commanded that if anyone knew where he was, he should report it, that they might seize him.
