Es war aber ein Gewisser krank, Lazarus von Bethanien, aus dem Dorfe der Maria und ihrer Schwester Martha.

ESTABA entonces enfermo uno llamado Lázaro, de Bethania, la aldea de María y de Marta su hermana.

Now a certain man was sick, named Lazarus, of Bethany, the town of Mary and her sister Martha.

(Maria aber war es, die den Herrn mit Salbe salbte und seine Füße mit ihren Haaren abtrocknete; deren Bruder Lazarus war krank.)

(Y María, cuyo hermano Lázaro estaba enfermo, era la que ungió al Señor con ungüento, y limpió sus pies con sus cabellos.)

(It was that Mary which anointed the Lord with ointment, and wiped his feet with her hair, whose brother Lazarus was sick.)

Da sandten die Schwestern zu ihm und ließen ihm sagen: Herr, siehe, der, den du lieb hast, ist krank.

Enviaron, pues, sus hermanas á él, diciendo: Señor, he aquí, el que amas está enfermo.

Therefore his sisters sent unto him, saying, Lord, behold, he whom thou lovest is sick.

The sisters therefore sent to him, saying, “Lord, behold, he for whom you have great affection is sick.”

Als aber Jesus es hörte, sprach er: Diese Krankheit ist nicht zum Tode, sondern um der Herrlichkeit Gottes willen, auf daß der Sohn Gottes durch sie verherrlicht werde.

Y oyéndolo Jesús, dijo: Esta enfermedad no es para muerte, mas por gloria de Dios, para que el Hijo de Dios sea glorificado por ella.

When Jesus heard that, he said, This sickness is not unto death, but for the glory of God, that the Son of God might be glorified thereby.

But when Jesus heard it, he said, “This sickness is not to death, but for the glory of God, that God’s Son may be glorified by it.”

Jesus aber liebte die Martha und ihre Schwester und den Lazarus.

Y amaba Jesús á Marta, y á su hermana, y á Lázaro.

Now Jesus loved Martha, and her sister, and Lazarus.

Als er nun hörte, daß er krank sei, blieb er noch zwei Tage an dem Orte, wo er war.

Como oyó pues que estaba enfermo, quedóse aún dos días en aquel lugar donde estaba.

When he had heard therefore that he was sick, he abode two days still in the same place where he was.

Danach spricht er dann zu den Jüngern: Laßt uns wieder nach Judäa gehen.

Luego, después de esto, dijo á los discípulos: Vamos á Judea otra vez.

Then after that saith he to his disciples, Let us go into Judæa again.

Then after this he said to the disciples, “Let’s go into Judea again.”

Die Jünger sagen zu ihm: Rabbi, eben suchten die Juden dich zu steinigen, und wiederum gehst du dahin?

Dícenle los discípulos: Rabbí, ahora procuraban los Judíos apedrearte, ¿y otra vez vas allá?

His disciples say unto him, Master, the Jews of late sought to stone thee; and goest thou thither again?

The disciples asked him, “Rabbi, the Jews were just trying to stone you. Are you going there again?”

Jesus antwortete: Sind der Stunden des Tages nicht zwölf? Wenn jemand am Tage wandelt, stößt er nicht an, weil er das Licht dieser Welt sieht;

Respondió Jesús: ¿No tiene el día doce horas? El que anduviere de día, no tropieza, porque ve la luz de este mundo.

Jesus answered, Are there not twelve hours in the day? If any man walk in the day, he stumbleth not, because he seeth the light of this world.

Jesus answered, “Aren’t there twelve hours of daylight? If a man walks in the day, he doesn’t stumble, because he sees the light of this world.

wenn aber jemand in der Nacht wandelt, stößt er an, weil das Licht nicht in ihm ist.

Mas el que anduviere de noche, tropieza, porque no hay luz en él.

But if a man walk in the night, he stumbleth, because there is no light in him.

But if a man walks in the night, he stumbles, because the light isn’t in him.”

Dies sprach er, und danach sagt er zu ihnen: Lazarus, unser Freund, ist eingeschlafen; aber ich gehe hin, auf daß ich ihn aufwecke.

Dicho esto, díceles después: Lázaro nuestro amigo duerme; mas voy á despertarle del sueño.

These things said he: and after that he saith unto them, Our friend Lazarus sleepeth; but I go, that I may awake him out of sleep.

He said these things, and after that, he said to them, “Our friend Lazarus has fallen asleep, but I am going so that I may awake him out of sleep.”

Da sprachen die Jünger zu ihm: Herr, wenn er eingeschlafen ist, so wird er geheilt werden.

Dijeron entonces sus discípulos: Señor, si duerme, salvo estará.

Then said his disciples, Lord, if he sleep, he shall do well.

The disciples therefore said, “Lord, if he has fallen asleep, he will recover.”

Jesus aber hatte von seinem Tode gesprochen; sie aber meinten, er rede von der Ruhe des Schlafes.

Mas esto decía Jesús de la muerte de él: y ellos pensaron que hablaba del reposar del sueño.

Howbeit Jesus spake of his death: but they thought that he had spoken of taking of rest in sleep.

Now Jesus had spoken of his death, but they thought that he spoke of taking rest in sleep.

Dann nun sagte ihnen Jesus gerade heraus: Lazarus ist gestorben;

Entonces, pues, Jesús les dijo claramente: Lázaro es muerto;

Then said Jesus unto them plainly, Lazarus is dead.

So Jesus said to them plainly then, “Lazarus is dead.

und ich bin froh um euretwillen, daß ich nicht dort war, auf daß ihr glaubet; aber laßt uns zu ihm gehen.

Y huélgome por vosotros, que yo no haya estado allí, para que creáis: mas vamos á él.

And I am glad for your sakes that I was not there, to the intent ye may believe; nevertheless let us go unto him.

I am glad for your sakes that I was not there, so that you may believe. Nevertheless, let’s go to him.”

Da sprach Thomas, der Zwilling genannt ist, zu den Mitjüngern: Laßt auch uns gehen, auf daß wir mit ihm sterben.

Dijo entonces Tomás, el que se dice el Dídimo, á sus condiscípulos: Vamos también nosotros, para que muramos con él.

Then said Thomas, which is called Didymus, unto his fellowdisciples, Let us also go, that we may die with him.

Thomas therefore, who is called Didymus, said to his fellow disciples, “Let’s also go, that we may die with him.”

Als nun Jesus kam, fand er ihn schon vier Tage in der Gruft liegen.

Vino pues Jesús, y halló que había ya cuatro días que estaba en el sepulcro.

Then when Jesus came, he found that he had lain in the grave four days already.

So when Jesus came, he found that he had been in the tomb four days already.

Bethanien aber war nahe bei Jerusalem, etwa fünfzehn Stadien weit;

Y Bethania estaba cerca de Jerusalem, como quince estadios;

Now Bethany was nigh unto Jerusalem, about fifteen furlongs off:

Now Bethany was near Jerusalem, about fifteen stadia away.

und viele von den Juden waren zu Martha und Maria gekommen, auf daß sie dieselben über ihren Bruder trösteten.

Y muchos de los Judíos habían venido á Marta y á María, á consolarlas de su hermano.

And many of the Jews came to Martha and Mary, to comfort them concerning their brother.

Many of the Jews had joined the women around Martha and Mary, to console them concerning their brother.

Martha nun, als sie hörte, daß Jesus komme, ging ihm entgegen. Maria aber saß im Hause.

Entonces Marta, como oyó que Jesús venía, salió á encontrarle; mas María se estuvo en casa.

Then Martha, as soon as she heard that Jesus was coming, went and met him: but Mary sat still in the house.

Then when Martha heard that Jesus was coming, she went and met him, but Mary stayed in the house.

Da sprach Martha zu Jesu: Herr, wenn du hier gewesen wärest, so wäre mein Bruder nicht gestorben;

Y Marta dijo á Jesús: Señor, si hubieses estado aquí, mi hermano no fuera muerto;

Then said Martha unto Jesus, Lord, if thou hadst been here, my brother had not died.

Therefore Martha said to Jesus, “Lord, if you would have been here, my brother wouldn’t have died.

aber auch jetzt weiß ich, daß, was irgend du von Gott bitten magst, Gott dir geben wird.

Mas también sé ahora, que todo lo que pidieres de Dios, te dará Dios.

But I know, that even now, whatsoever thou wilt ask of God, God will give it thee.

Even now I know that whatever you ask of God, God will give you.”

Jesus spricht zu ihr: Dein Bruder wird auferstehen.

Dícele Jesús: Resucitará tu hermano.

Jesus saith unto her, Thy brother shall rise again.

Jesus said to her, “Your brother will rise again.”

Martha spricht zu ihm: Ich weiß, daß er auferstehen wird in der Auferstehung am letzten Tage.

Marta le dice: Yo sé que resucitará en la resurrección en el día postrero.

Martha saith unto him, I know that he shall rise again in the resurrection at the last day.

Martha said to him, “I know that he will rise again in the resurrection at the last day.”

Jesus sprach zu ihr: Ich bin die Auferstehung und das Leben; wer an mich glaubt, wird leben, auch wenn er gestorben ist;

Dícele Jesús: Yo soy la resurrección y la vida: el que cree en mí, aunque esté muerto, vivirá.

Jesus said unto her, I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live:

Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in me will still live, even if he dies.

und jeder, der da lebt und an mich glaubt, wird nicht sterben in Ewigkeit. Glaubst du dies?

Y todo aquel que vive y cree en mí, no morirá eternamente. ¿Crees esto?

And whosoever liveth and believeth in me shall never die. Believest thou this?

Whoever lives and believes in me will never die. Do you believe this?”

Sie spricht zu ihm: Ja, Herr, ich glaube, daß du der Christus bist, der Sohn Gottes, der in die Welt kommen soll.

Dícele: Sí, Señor; yo he creído que tú eres el Cristo, el Hijo de Dios, que has venido al mundo.

She saith unto him, Yea, Lord: I believe that thou art the Christ, the Son of God, which should come into the world.

She said to him, “Yes, Lord. I have come to believe that you are the Christ, God’s Son, he who comes into the world.”

Und als sie dies gesagt hatte, ging sie hin und rief ihre Schwester Maria heimlich und sagte: Der Lehrer ist da und ruft dich.

Y esto dicho, fuése, y llamó en secreto á María su hermana, diciendo: El Maestro está aquí y te llama.

And when she had so said, she went her way, and called Mary her sister secretly, saying, The Master is come, and calleth for thee.

When she had said this, she went away and called Mary, her sister, secretly, saying, “The Teacher is here and is calling you.”

Als jene es hörte, steht sie schnell auf und geht zu ihm.

Ella, como lo oyó, levántase prestamente y viene á él.

As soon as she heard that, she arose quickly, and came unto him.

When she heard this, she arose quickly and went to him.

Jesus aber war noch nicht in das Dorf gekommen, sondern war an dem Orte, wo Martha ihm begegnet war.

(Que aun no había llegado Jesús á la aldea, mas estaba en aquel lugar donde Marta le había encontrado.)

Now Jesus was not yet come into the town, but was in that place where Martha met him.

Now Jesus had not yet come into the village, but was in the place where Martha met him.

Als nun die Juden, die bei ihr im Hause waren und sie trösteten, sahen, daß Maria schnell aufstand und hinausging, folgten sie ihr, indem sie sagten: Sie geht zur Gruft, auf daß sie daselbst weine.

Entonces los Judíos que estaban en casa con ella, y la consolaban, como vieron que María se había levantado prestamente, y había salido, siguiéronla, diciendo: Va al sepulcro á llorar allí.

The Jews then which were with her in the house, and comforted her, when they saw Mary, that she rose up hastily and went out, followed her, saying, She goeth unto the grave to weep there.

Then the Jews who were with her in the house and were consoling her, when they saw Mary, that she rose up quickly and went out, followed her, saying, “She is going to the tomb to weep there.”

Als nun Maria dahin kam, wo Jesus war, und ihn sah, fiel sie ihm zu Füßen und sprach zu ihm: Herr, wenn du hier gewesen wärest, so wäre mein Bruder nicht gestorben.

Mas María, como vino donde estaba Jesús, viéndole, derribóse á sus pies, diciéndole: Señor, si hubieras estado aquí, no fuera muerto mi hermano.

Then when Mary was come where Jesus was, and saw him, she fell down at his feet, saying unto him, Lord, if thou hadst been here, my brother had not died.

Therefore when Mary came to where Jesus was and saw him, she fell down at his feet, saying to him, “Lord, if you would have been here, my brother wouldn’t have died.”

Als nun Jesus sie weinen sah, und die Juden weinen, die mit ihr gekommen waren, seufzte er tief im Geist und erschütterte sich

Jesús entonces, como la vió llorando, y á los Judíos que habían venido juntamente con ella llorando, se conmovió en espíritu, y turbóse,

When Jesus therefore saw her weeping, and the Jews also weeping which came with her, he groaned in the spirit, and was troubled,

und sprach: Wo habt ihr ihn hingelegt? Sie sagen zu ihm: Herr, komm und sieh!

Y dijo: ¿Dónde le pusisteis? Dícenle: Señor, ven, y ve.

And said, Where have ye laid him? They said unto him, Lord, come and see.

and said, “Where have you laid him?” They told him, “Lord, come and see.”

Jesus vergoß Tränen.

Y lloró Jesús.

Jesus wept.

Da sprachen die Juden: Siehe, wie lieb hat er ihn gehabt!

Dijeron entonces los Judíos: Mirad cómo le amaba.

Then said the Jews, Behold how he loved him!

The Jews therefore said, “See how much affection he had for him!”

Etliche aber von ihnen sagten: Konnte dieser, der die Augen des Blinden auftat, nicht machen, daß auch dieser nicht gestorben wäre?

Y algunos de ellos dijeron: ¿No podía éste que abrió los ojos al ciego, hacer que éste no muriera?

And some of them said, Could not this man, which opened the eyes of the blind, have caused that even this man should not have died?

Some of them said, “Couldn’t this man, who opened the eyes of him who was blind, have also kept this man from dying?”

Jesus nun, wiederum tief in sich selbst seufzend, kommt zur Gruft. Es war aber eine Höhle, und ein Stein lag darauf.

Y Jesús, conmoviéndose otra vez en sí mismo, vino al sepulcro. Era una cueva, la cual tenía una piedra encima.

Jesus therefore again groaning in himself cometh to the grave. It was a cave, and a stone lay upon it.

Jesus spricht: Nehmet den Stein weg. Die Schwester des Verstorbenen, Martha, spricht zu ihm: Herr, er riecht schon, denn er ist vier Tage hier.

Dice Jesús: Quitad la piedra. Marta, la hermana del que se había muerto, le dice: Señor, hiede ya, que es de cuatro días.

Jesus said, Take ye away the stone. Martha, the sister of him that was dead, saith unto him, Lord, by this time he stinketh: for he hath been dead four days.

Jesus said, “Take away the stone.” Martha, the sister of him who was dead, said to him, “Lord, by this time there is a stench, for he has been dead four days.”

Jesus spricht zu ihr: Habe ich dir nicht gesagt, wenn du glauben würdest, so würdest du die Herrlichkeit Gottes sehen?

Jesús le dice: ¿No te he dicho que, si creyeres, verás la gloria de Dios?

Jesus saith unto her, Said I not unto thee, that, if thou wouldest believe, thou shouldest see the glory of God?

Jesus said to her, “Didn’t I tell you that if you believed, you would see God’s glory?”

Sie nahmen nun den Stein weg. Jesus aber hob die Augen empor und sprach: Vater, ich danke dir, daß du mich erhört hast.

Entonces quitaron la piedra de donde el muerto había sido puesto. Y Jesús, alzando los ojos arriba, dijo: Padre, gracias te doy que me has oído.

Then they took away the stone from the place where the dead was laid. And Jesus lifted up his eyes, and said, Father, I thank thee that thou hast heard me.

So they took away the stone from the place where the dead man was lying. Jesus lifted up his eyes and said, “Father, I thank you that you listened to me.

Ich aber wußte, daß du mich allezeit erhörst; doch um der Volksmenge willen, die umhersteht, habe ich es gesagt, auf daß sie glauben, daß du mich gesandt hast.

Que yo sabía que siempre me oyes; mas por causa de la compañía que está alrededor, lo dije, para que crean que tú me has enviado.

And I knew that thou hearest me always: but because of the people which stand by I said it, that they may believe that thou hast sent me.

I know that you always listen to me, but because of the multitude standing around I said this, that they may believe that you sent me.”

Und als er dies gesagt hatte, rief er mit lauter Stimme: Lazarus, komm heraus!

Y habiendo dicho estas cosas, clamó á gran voz: Lázaro, ven fuera.

And when he thus had spoken, he cried with a loud voice, Lazarus, come forth.

When he had said this, he cried with a loud voice, “Lazarus, come out!”

Und der Verstorbene kam heraus, an Füßen und Händen mit Grabtüchern gebunden, und sein Gesicht war mit einem Schweißtuch umbunden. Jesus spricht zu ihnen: Löset ihn auf und laßt ihn gehen.

Y el que había estado muerto, salió, atadas las manos y los pies con vendas; y su rostro estaba envuelto en un sudario. Díceles Jesús: Desatadle, y dejadle ir.

And he that was dead came forth, bound hand and foot with graveclothes: and his face was bound about with a napkin. Jesus saith unto them, Loose him, and let him go.

He who was dead came out, bound hand and foot with wrappings, and his face was wrapped around with a cloth. Jesus said to them, “Free him, and let him go.”

Viele nun von den Juden, die zu Maria gekommen waren und sahen, was er getan hatte, glaubten an ihn.

Entonces muchos de los Judíos que habían venido á María, y habían visto lo que había hecho Jesús, creyeron en él.

Then many of the Jews which came to Mary, and had seen the things which Jesus did, believed on him.

Therefore many of the Jews who came to Mary and saw what Jesus did believed in him.

Etliche aber von ihnen gingen hin zu den Pharisäern und sagten ihnen, was Jesus getan hatte.

Mas algunos de ellos fueron á los Fariseos, y dijéronles lo que Jesús había hecho.

But some of them went their ways to the Pharisees, and told them what things Jesus had done.

But some of them went away to the Pharisees and told them the things which Jesus had done.

Da versammelten die Hohenpriester und die Pharisäer ein Synedrium und sprachen: Was tun wir? Denn dieser Mensch tut viele Zeichen.

Entonces los pontífices y los Fariseos juntaron concilio, y decían: ¿Qué hacemos? porque este hombre hace muchas señales.

Then gathered the chief priests and the Pharisees a council, and said, What do we? for this man doeth many miracles.

The chief priests therefore and the Pharisees gathered a council, and said, “What are we doing? For this man does many signs.

Wenn wir ihn also lassen, werden alle an ihn glauben, und die Römer werden kommen und sowohl unseren Ort als auch unsere Nation wegnehmen.

Si le dejamos así, todos creerán en él: y vendrán los Romanos, y quitarán nuestro lugar y la nación.

If we let him thus alone, all men will believe on him: and the Romans shall come and take away both our place and nation.

If we leave him alone like this, everyone will believe in him, and the Romans will come and take away both our place and our nation.”

Ein Gewisser aber aus ihnen, Kajaphas, der jenes Jahr Hoherpriester war, sprach zu ihnen: Ihr wisset nichts,

Y Caifás, uno de ellos, sumo pontífice de aquel año, les dijo: Vosotros no sabéis nada;

And one of them, named Caiaphas, being the high priest that same year, said unto them, Ye know nothing at all,

But a certain one of them, Caiaphas, being high priest that year, said to them, “You know nothing at all,

und überleget auch nicht, daß es euch nützlich ist, daß ein Mensch für das Volk sterbe und nicht die ganze Nation umkomme.

Ni pensáis que nos conviene que un hombre muera por el pueblo, y no que toda la nación se pierda.

Nor consider that it is expedient for us, that one man should die for the people, and that the whole nation perish not.

nor do you consider that it is advantageous for us that one man should die for the people, and that the whole nation not perish.”

Dies aber sagte er nicht aus sich selbst, sondern da er jenes Jahr Hoherpriester war, weissagte er, daß Jesus für die Nation sterben sollte;

Mas esto no lo dijo de sí mismo; sino que, como era el sumo pontífice de aquel año, profetizó que Jesús había de morir por la nación:

And this spake he not of himself: but being high priest that year, he prophesied that Jesus should die for that nation;

Now he didn’t say this of himself, but being high priest that year, he prophesied that Jesus would die for the nation,

und nicht für die Nation allein, sondern auf daß er auch die zerstreuten Kinder Gottes in eins versammelte.

Y no solamente por aquella nación, mas también para que juntase en uno los hijos de Dios que estaban derramados.

And not for that nation only, but that also he should gather together in one the children of God that were scattered abroad.

and not for the nation only, but that he might also gather together into one the children of God who are scattered abroad.

Von jenem Tage an ratschlagten sie nun, auf daß sie ihn töteten.

Así que, desde aquel día consultaban juntos de matarle.

Then from that day forth they took counsel together for to put him to death.

So from that day forward they took counsel that they might put him to death.

Jesus nun wandelte nicht mehr frei öffentlich unter den Juden, sondern ging von dannen hinweg in die Gegend nahe bei der Wüste, in eine Stadt, genannt Ephraim; und daselbst verweilte er mit den Jüngern.

Por tanto, Jesús ya no andaba manifiestamente entre los Judíos; mas fuése de allí á la tierra que está junto al desierto, á una ciudad que se llama Ephraim: y estábase allí con sus discípulos.

Jesus therefore walked no more openly among the Jews; but went thence unto a country near to the wilderness, into a city called Ephraim, and there continued with his disciples.

Es war aber nahe das Passah der Juden, und viele gingen aus dem Lande hinauf nach Jerusalem vor dem Passah, auf daß sie sich reinigten.

Y la Pascua de los Judíos estaba cerca: y muchos subieron de aquella tierra á Jerusalem antes de la Pascua, para purificarse;

And the Jews’ passover was nigh at hand: and many went out of the country up to Jerusalem before the passover, to purify themselves.

Now the Passover of the Jews was at hand. Many went up from the country to Jerusalem before the Passover, to purify themselves.

Sie suchten nun Jesum und sprachen, im Tempel stehend, untereinander: Was dünkt euch? Daß er nicht zu dem Fest kommen wird?

Y buscaban á Jesús, y hablaban los unos con los otros estando en el templo: ¿Qué os parece, que no vendrá á la fiesta?

Then sought they for Jesus, and spake among themselves, as they stood in the temple, What think ye, that he will not come to the feast?

Then they sought for Jesus and spoke with one another as they stood in the temple, “What do you think—that he isn’t coming to the feast at all?”

Es hatten aber die Hohenpriester und die Pharisäer Befehl gegeben, daß, wenn jemand wisse, wo er sei, er es anzeigen solle, damit sie ihn griffen.

Y los pontífices y los Fariseos habían dado mandamiento, que si alguno supiese dónde estuviera, lo manifestase, para que le prendiesen.

Now both the chief priests and the Pharisees had given a commandment, that, if any man knew where he were, he should shew it, that they might take him.

Now the chief priests and the Pharisees had commanded that if anyone knew where he was, he should report it, that they might seize him.
