1Seis días antes de la Pascua, Jesús fue a Betania, al hogar de Lázaro, quien había sido levantado de los muertos.
2Había allí una cena preparada en su honor. Marta ayudaba a servir la comida mientras que Lázaro estaba sentado en la mesa con Jesús y con los demás invitados.
3María trajo medio litro de perfume de nardo puro y ungió los pies de Jesús, secándolos con su cabello. El aroma del perfume se esparció por toda la casa.
4Pero uno de los discípulos, Judas Iscariote, quien después traicionaría a Jesús, preguntó:
5“¿No era mejor vender este perfume y regalar el dinero a los pobres? El perfume costaba trescientos denarios”.
6Él no decía esto porque le interesaran los pobres, sino porque era un ladrón. Él era quien administraba el dinero de los discípulos y a menudo tomaba de ese dinero para sí mismo.
7“No la critiquen”, respondió Jesús. “Ella hizo esto como una preparación para el día de mi entierro.
8Ustedes siempre tendrán a los pobres aquí con ustedes, pero no siempre me tendrán a mí aquí”.
9Una gran multitud había descubierto que él estaba allí. Llegaron al lugar no solo para ver a Jesús sino porque querían ver a Lázaro, el hombre a quien Jesús había levantado de los muertos.
10Entonces los jefes de los sacerdotes planeaban matar a Lázaro también,
11pues era por él que muchos judíos ya no los seguían a ellos sino que estaban creyendo en Jesús.
12Al día siguiente, las multitudes de personas que habían venido a la fiesta de la Pascua escucharon que Jesús iba de camino hacia Jerusalén.
13Entonces cortaron ramas de palmeras y salieron a darle la bienvenida, gritando: “¡Hosanna! Bendito es el que viene en el nombre del Señor. Bendito es el rey de Israel”.
14Jesús encontró un potrillo y se montó sobre él, tal como dice la Escritura:
15“No temas, hija de Sión. Mira, tu rey viene, montado en un potrillo”.
16En ese momento, los discípulos de Jesús no entendían lo que significaban estas cosas. Fue después, cuando Jesús fue glorificado, que ellos entendieron que lo que había ocurrido ya había sido profetizado y se había aplicado a él.
17Muchos en la multitud habían visto a Jesús llamar a Lázaro de la tumba y levantarlo de los muertos, y estaban contando el hecho.
18Esa fue la razón por la que tantas personas fueron a conocer a Jesús—porque habían escuchado acerca de este milagro.
19Los fariseos se decían unos a otros: “Miren, no estamos logrando nada. Todos corren detrás de él”.
20Sucedió que unos griegos habían venido a adorar durante la fiesta.
21Ellos se acercaron a Felipe de Betsaida, de Galilea, y le dijeron: “Señor, quisiéramos ver a Jesús”.
22Felipe fue y le dijo a Andrés. Entonces ambos se acercaron a Jesús y le dijeron esto.
23Jesús respondió: “Ha llegado el momento para que el Hijo del hombre sea glorificado.
24Les digo la verdad: hasta que un grano de trigo no se plante en la tierra y muera, sigue siendo un grano. Pero si muere, produce muchos más granos de trigo.
25Si ustedes aman su propia vida, la perderán; pero si no aman su propia vida en este mundo, salvarán sus vidas para siempre.
26Si ustedes quieren servirme, tienen que seguirme. Mis siervos estarán donde yo esté, y mi Padre honrará a todo el que me sirva.
27“Ahora estoy atribulado. ¿Qué debo decir, ‘Padre, guárdame de este momento de sufrimiento que está por venir’? No, porque esta es la razón por la cual vine—para vivir este momento de sufrimiento.
28Padre, muéstrame la gloria de tu carácter”. Vino una voz del cielo que decía: “He mostrado la gloria de mi carácter, y la volveré a mostrar”.
29La multitud que estaba allí en pie escuchó la voz. Algunos decían que era un trueno; otros decían que un ángel le había hablado.
30Jesús les dijo: “Esta voz no habló por mí, sino por causa de ustedes.
31Ahora es el juicio de este mundo; ahora el príncipe de este mundo será lanzado fuera.
32Pero cuando yo sea levantado, a todos atraeré hacia mí”.
33(Él dijo esto para señalar el tipo de muerte que iba a sufrir).
34La multitud respondió: “la Ley nos dice que el Mesías vivirá para siempre, ¿cómo puedes decir tú que el Hijo del hombre debe ser ‘levantado’? ¿Quién es este ‘Hijo del hombre’?”
35Jesús respondió: “La luz está aquí con ustedes un poco más. Caminen mientras tienen la luz para que la oscuridad no los sorprenda. Los que caminan en la oscuridad no saben hacia dónde van.
36Confíen en la luz mientras la tienen para que sean hijos de la luz”. Cuando Jesús terminó de decirles esto, se fue y se ocultó de ellos.
37Pero a pesar de todos los milagros que él había hecho en presencia de ellos, aún no creían en Jesús.
38Esto era en cumplimiento del mensaje del profeta Isaías, quien dijo: “Señor, ¿quién ha creído en lo que hemos dicho? ¿A quién le ha sido revelado el poder del Señor?”
39Ellos no podían creer en él, y como consecuencia, cumplieron lo que Isaías dijo:
40“Él cegó sus ojos, y oscureció sus mentes a fin de que sus ojos no vieran, y sus mentes no pensaran, y no se volvieran a mí—porque si lo hacían, yo los sanaría”.
41Isaías vio la gloria de Jesús y dijo esto en referencia a él.
42Incluso muchos de los líderes creían en él. Sin embargo, no lo admitían abiertamente porque no querían que los fariseos los expulsaran de la sinagoga,
43demostrando que amaban la admiración humana más que la aprobación de Dios.
44Jesús dijo a gran voz: “Si creen en mí, no solamente están creyendo en mí sino también en Aquél que me envió.
45Cuando me ven a mí, están viendo al que me envió.
46He venido como una luz que ilumina al mundo, así que si creen en mí no permanecerán en la oscuridad.
47Yo no juzgo a ninguno que escucha mis palabras y no hace lo que yo digo. Yo vine a salvar al mundo, no a juzgarlo.
48Cualquiera que me rechaza y no acepta mis palabras, será juzgado en el juicio final, conforme a lo que he dicho.
49Porque no estoy hablando por mí mismo sino por mi Padre que me envió. Él fue quien me instruyó en cuanto a lo que debo decir y cómo lo debo decir.
50Yo sé que lo que Él me ordenó que les dijera, trae vida eterna—Así que todo lo que yo digo es lo que el Padre me dijo a mí”.

1Y JESÚS, seis días antes de la Pascua, vino á Bethania, donde estaba Lázaro, que había sido muerto, al cual había resucitado de los muertos.
2E hiciéronle allí una cena: y Marta servía, y Lázaro era uno de los que estaban sentados á la mesa juntamente con él.
3Entonces María tomó una libra de ungüento de nardo líquido de mucho precio, y ungió los pies de Jesús, y limpió sus pies con sus cabellos: y la casa se llenó del olor del ungüento.
4Y dijo uno de sus discípulos, Judas Iscariote, hijo de Simón, el que le había de entregar:
5¿Por qué no se ha vendido este ungüento por trescientos dineros, y se dió á los pobres?
6Mas dijo esto, no por el cuidado que él tenía de los pobres; sino porque era ladrón, y tenía la bolsa, y traía lo que se echaba en ella.
7Entonces Jesús dijo: Déjala: para el día de mi sepultura ha guardado esto;
8Porque á los pobres siempre los tenéis con vosotros, mas á mí no siempre me tenéis.
9Entonces mucha gente de los Judíos entendió que él estaba allí; y vinieron no solamente por causa de Jesús, mas también por ver á Lázaro, al cual había resucitado de los muertos.
10Consultaron asimismo los príncipes de los sacerdotes, de matar también á Lázaro;
11Porque muchos de los Judíos iban y creían en Jesús por causa de él.
12El siguiente día, mucha gente que había venido á la fiesta, como oyeron que Jesús venía á Jerusalem,
13Tomaron ramos de palmas, y salieron á recibirle, y clamaban: ¡Hosanna, Bendito el que viene en el nombre del Señor, el Rey de Israel!
14Y halló Jesús un asnillo, y se sentó sobre él, como está escrito:
15No temas, hija de Sión: he aquí tu Rey viene, sentado sobre un pollino de asna.
16Estas cosas no las entendieron sus discípulos de primero: empero cuando Jesús fué glorificado, entonces se acordaron de que estas cosas estaban escritas de él, y que le hicieron estas cosas.
17Y la gente que estaba con él, daba testimonio de cuando llamó á Lázaro del sepulcro, y le resucitó de los muertos.
18Por lo cual también había venido la gente á recibirle, porque había oído que él había hecho esta señal;
19Mas los Fariseos dijeron entre sí: ¿Veis que nada aprovecháis? he aquí, el mundo se va tras de él.
20Y había ciertos Griegos de los que habían subido á adorar en la fiesta:
21Estos pues, se llegaron á Felipe, que era de Bethsaida de Galilea, y rogáronle, diciendo: Señor, querríamos ver á Jesús.
22Vino Felipe, y díjolo á Andrés: Andrés entonces, y Felipe, lo dicen á Jesús.
23Entonces Jesús les respondió, diciendo: La hora viene en que el Hijo del hombre ha de ser glorificado.
24De cierto, de cierto os digo, que si el grano de trigo no cae en la tierra y muere, él solo queda; mas si muriere, mucho fruto lleva.
25El que ama su vida, la perderá; y el que aborrece su vida en este mundo, para vida eterna la guardará.
26Si alguno me sirve, sígame: y donde yo estuviere, allí también estará mi servidor. Si alguno me sirviere, mi Padre le honrará.
27Ahora está turbada mi alma; ¿y qué diré? Padre, sálvame de esta hora. Mas por esto he venido en esta hora.
28Padre, glorifica tu nombre. Entonces vino una voz del cielo: Y lo he glorificado, y lo glorificaré otra vez.
29Y la gente que estaba presente, y había oído, decía que había sido trueno. Otros decían: Angel le ha hablado.
30Respondió Jesús, y dijo: No ha venido esta voz por mi causa, mas por causa de vosotros.
31Ahora es el juicio de este mundo: ahora el príncipe de este mundo será echado fuera.
32Y yo, si fuere levantado de la tierra, á todos traeré á mí mismo.
33Y esto decía dando á entender de qué muerte había de morir.
34Respondióle la gente: Nosotros hemos oído de la ley, que el Cristo permanece para siempre: ¿cómo pues dices tú: Conviene que el Hijo del hombre sea levantado? ¿Quién es este Hijo del hombre?
35Entonces Jesús les dice: Aun por un poco estará la luz entre vosotros: andad entre tanto que tenéis luz, porque no os sorprendan las tinieblas; porque el que anda en tinieblas, no sabe dónde va.
36Entre tanto que tenéis la luz, creed en la luz, para que seáis hijos de luz. Estas cosas habló Jesús, y fuése, y escondióse de ellos.
37Empero habiendo hecho delante de ellos tantas señales, no creían en él.
38Para que se cumpliese el dicho que dijo el profeta Isaías: ¿Señor, quién ha creído á nuestro dicho? ¿y el brazo del Señor, á quién es revelado?
39Por esto no podían creer, porque otra vez dijo Isaías:
40Cegó los ojos de ellos, y endureció su corazón; porque no vean con los ojos, y entiendan de corazón, y se conviertan, y yo los sane.
41Estas cosas dijo Isaías cuando vió su gloria, y habló de él.
42Con todo eso, aun de los príncipes, muchos creyeron en él; mas por causa de los Fariseos no lo confesaban, por no ser echados de la sinagoga.
43Porque amaban más la gloria de los hombres que la gloria de Dios.
44Mas Jesús clamó y dijo: El que cree en mí, no cree en mí, sino en el que me envió;
45Y el que me ve, ve al que me envió.
46Yo la luz he venido al mundo, para que todo aquel que cree en mí no permanezca en tinieblas.
47Y el que oyere mis palabras, y no las creyere, yo no le juzgo; porque no he venido á juzgar al mundo, sino á salvar al mundo.
48El que me desecha, y no recibe mis palabras, tiene quien le juzgue: la palabra que he hablado, ella le juzgará en el día postrero.
49Porque yo no he hablado de mí mismo: mas el Padre que me envió, él me dió mandamiento de lo que he de decir, y de lo que he de hablar.
50Y sé que su mandamiento es vida eterna: así que, lo que yo hablo, como el Padre me lo ha dicho, así hablo.

1Then Jesus six days before the passover came to Bethany, where Lazarus was which had been dead, whom he raised from the dead.
2There they made him a supper; and Martha served: but Lazarus was one of them that sat at the table with him.
3Then took Mary a pound of ointment of spikenard, very costly, and anointed the feet of Jesus, and wiped his feet with her hair: and the house was filled with the odour of the ointment.
4Then saith one of his disciples, Judas Iscariot, Simon’s son, which should betray him,
5Why was not this ointment sold for three hundred pence, and given to the poor?
6This he said, not that he cared for the poor; but because he was a thief, and had the bag, and bare what was put therein.
7Then said Jesus, Let her alone: against the day of my burying hath she kept this.
8For the poor always ye have with you; but me ye have not always.
9Much people of the Jews therefore knew that he was there: and they came not for Jesus’ sake only, but that they might see Lazarus also, whom he had raised from the dead.
10But the chief priests consulted that they might put Lazarus also to death;
11Because that by reason of him many of the Jews went away, and believed on Jesus.
12On the next day much people that were come to the feast, when they heard that Jesus was coming to Jerusalem,
13Took branches of palm trees, and went forth to meet him, and cried, Hosanna: Blessed is the King of Israel that cometh in the name of the Lord.
14And Jesus, when he had found a young ass, sat thereon; as it is written,
15Fear not, daughter of Sion: behold, thy King cometh, sitting on an ass’s colt.
16These things understood not his disciples at the first: but when Jesus was glorified, then remembered they that these things were written of him, and that they had done these things unto him.
17The people therefore that was with him when he called Lazarus out of his grave, and raised him from the dead, bare record.
18For this cause the people also met him, for that they heard that he had done this miracle.
19The Pharisees therefore said among themselves, Perceive ye how ye prevail nothing? behold, the world is gone after him.
20And there were certain Greeks among them that came up to worship at the feast:
21The same came therefore to Philip, which was of Bethsaida of Galilee, and desired him, saying, Sir, we would see Jesus.
22Philip cometh and telleth Andrew: and again Andrew and Philip tell Jesus.
23And Jesus answered them, saying, The hour is come, that the Son of man should be glorified.
24Verily, verily, I say unto you, Except a corn of wheat fall into the ground and die, it abideth alone: but if it die, it bringeth forth much fruit.
25He that loveth his life shall lose it; and he that hateth his life in this world shall keep it unto life eternal.
26If any man serve me, let him follow me; and where I am, there shall also my servant be: if any man serve me, him will my Father honour.
27Now is my soul troubled; and what shall I say? Father, save me from this hour: but for this cause came I unto this hour.
28Father, glorify thy name. Then came there a voice from heaven, saying, I have both glorified it, and will glorify it again.
29The people therefore, that stood by, and heard it, said that it thundered: others said, An angel spake to him.
30Jesus answered and said, This voice came not because of me, but for your sakes.
31Now is the judgment of this world: now shall the prince of this world be cast out.
32And I, if I be lifted up from the earth, will draw all men unto me.
33This he said, signifying what death he should die.
34The people answered him, We have heard out of the law that Christ abideth for ever: and how sayest thou, The Son of man must be lifted up? who is this Son of man?
35Then Jesus said unto them, Yet a little while is the light with you. Walk while ye have the light, lest darkness come upon you: for he that walketh in darkness knoweth not whither he goeth.
36While ye have light, believe in the light, that ye may be the children of light. These things spake Jesus, and departed, and did hide himself from them.
37But though he had done so many miracles before them, yet they believed not on him:
38That the saying of Esaias the prophet might be fulfilled, which he spake, Lord, who hath believed our report? and to whom hath the arm of the Lord been revealed?
39Therefore they could not believe, because that Esaias said again,
40He hath blinded their eyes, and hardened their heart; that they should not see with their eyes, nor understand with their heart, and be converted, and I should heal them.
41These things said Esaias, when he saw his glory, and spake of him.
42Nevertheless among the chief rulers also many believed on him; but because of the Pharisees they did not confess him, lest they should be put out of the synagogue:
43For they loved the praise of men more than the praise of God.
44Jesus cried and said, He that believeth on me, believeth not on me, but on him that sent me.
45And he that seeth me seeth him that sent me.
46I am come a light into the world, that whosoever believeth on me should not abide in darkness.
47And if any man hear my words, and believe not, I judge him not: for I came not to judge the world, but to save the world.
48He that rejecteth me, and receiveth not my words, hath one that judgeth him: the word that I have spoken, the same shall judge him in the last day.
49For I have not spoken of myself; but the Father which sent me, he gave me a commandment, what I should say, and what I should speak.
50And I know that his commandment is life everlasting: whatsoever I speak therefore, even as the Father said unto me, so I speak.

3Therefore Mary took a pound of ointment of pure nard, very precious, and anointed Jesus’ feet and wiped his feet with her hair. The house was filled with the fragrance of the ointment.
4Then Judas Iscariot, Simon’s son, one of his disciples, who would betray him, said,
5“Why wasn’t this ointment sold for three hundred denarii and given to the poor?”
6Now he said this, not because he cared for the poor, but because he was a thief, and having the money box, used to steal what was put into it.
7But Jesus said, “Leave her alone. She has kept this for the day of my burial.
8For you always have the poor with you, but you don’t always have me.”
9A large crowd therefore of the Jews learned that he was there; and they came, not for Jesus’ sake only, but that they might see Lazarus also, whom he had raised from the dead.
10But the chief priests conspired to put Lazarus to death also,
11because on account of him many of the Jews went away and believed in Jesus.
12On the next day a great multitude had come to the feast. When they heard that Jesus was coming to Jerusalem,
13they took the branches of the palm trees and went out to meet him, and cried out, “Hosanna! Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord, the King of Israel!”
14Jesus, having found a young donkey, sat on it. As it is written,
15“Don’t be afraid, daughter of Zion. Behold, your King comes, sitting on a donkey’s colt.”
16His disciples didn’t understand these things at first, but when Jesus was glorified, then they remembered that these things were written about him, and that they had done these things to him.
17The multitude therefore that was with him when he called Lazarus out of the tomb and raised him from the dead was testifying about it.
18For this cause also the multitude went and met him, because they heard that he had done this sign.
19The Pharisees therefore said among themselves, “See how you accomplish nothing. Behold, the world has gone after him.”
20Now there were certain Greeks among those who went up to worship at the feast.
21Therefore, these came to Philip, who was from Bethsaida of Galilee, and asked him, saying, “Sir, we want to see Jesus.”
22Philip came and told Andrew, and in turn, Andrew came with Philip, and they told Jesus.
23Jesus answered them, “The time has come for the Son of Man to be glorified.
24Most certainly I tell you, unless a grain of wheat falls into the earth and dies, it remains by itself alone. But if it dies, it bears much fruit.
25He who loves his life will lose it. He who hates his life in this world will keep it to eternal life.
26If anyone serves me, let him follow me. Where I am, there my servant will also be. If anyone serves me, the Father will honor him.
27“Now my soul is troubled. What shall I say? ‘Father, save me from this time’? But I came to this time for this cause.
28Father, glorify your name!” Then a voice came out of the sky, saying, “I have both glorified it and will glorify it again.”
29Therefore the multitude who stood by and heard it said that it had thundered. Others said, “An angel has spoken to him.”
30Jesus answered, “This voice hasn’t come for my sake, but for your sakes.
31Now is the judgment of this world. Now the prince of this world will be cast out.
32And I, if I am lifted up from the earth, will draw all people to myself.”
33But he said this, signifying by what kind of death he should die.
34The multitude answered him, “We have heard out of the law that the Christ remains forever. How do you say, ‘The Son of Man must be lifted up’? Who is this Son of Man?”
35Jesus therefore said to them, “Yet a little while the light is with you. Walk while you have the light, that darkness doesn’t overtake you. He who walks in the darkness doesn’t know where he is going.
36While you have the light, believe in the light, that you may become children of light.” Jesus said these things, and he departed and hid himself from them.
37But though he had done so many signs before them, yet they didn’t believe in him,
38that the word of Isaiah the prophet might be fulfilled, which he spoke: “Lord, who has believed our report? To whom has the arm of the Lord been revealed?”
39For this cause they couldn’t believe, for Isaiah said again:
40“He has blinded their eyes and he hardened their heart, lest they should see with their eyes, and perceive with their heart, and would turn, and I would heal them.”
41Isaiah said these things when he saw his glory, and spoke of him.
42Nevertheless, even many of the rulers believed in him, but because of the Pharisees they didn’t confess it, so that they wouldn’t be put out of the synagogue,
43for they loved men’s praise more than God’s praise.
44Jesus cried out and said, “Whoever believes in me, believes not in me, but in him who sent me.
45He who sees me sees him who sent me.
46I have come as a light into the world, that whoever believes in me may not remain in the darkness.
47If anyone listens to my sayings and doesn’t believe, I don’t judge him. For I came not to judge the world, but to save the world.
48He who rejects me, and doesn’t receive my sayings, has one who judges him. The word that I spoke will judge him in the last day.
49For I spoke not from myself, but the Father who sent me gave me a commandment, what I should say and what I should speak.
50I know that his commandment is eternal life. The things therefore which I speak, even as the Father has said to me, so I speak.”
