1»Les digo todas estas cosas para que no disminuya su fe.
2A ustedes los echarán fuera de las sinagogas; y llegará el día en que cualquiera que los mate pensará que le está prestando un servicio a Dios.
3Harán estas cosas porque no nos han conocido ni al Padre ni a mí.
4Y les digo esto, para que cuando suceda se acuerden que ya se lo había dicho. No les dije esto desde el principio porque yo estaba con ustedes.
5»Pero ahora regreso al que me envió, y ninguno de ustedes me pregunta a dónde voy.
6Al contrario, se han llenado de tristeza por lo que les dije.
7Pero les digo la verdad: A ustedes les conviene que me vaya, porque si no lo hago, el Consolador no vendrá a ustedes; en cambio, si me voy, yo se lo enviaré.
8Y cuando él venga, convencerá al mundo de su error en cuanto al pecado, a la justicia y al juicio.
9Los convencerá en cuanto al pecado, porque no creen en mí.
10Los convencerá en cuanto a la justicia, porque voy al Padre y ustedes ya no podrán verme.
11Los convencerá en cuanto a juicio, porque el príncipe de este mundo ya ha sido juzgado.
12»Tengo muchas cosas más que decirles, que por ahora no podrían soportar.
13Pero cuando venga el Espíritu de la verdad, él los guiará a toda la verdad, porque él no hablará por su propia cuenta, sino que dirá sólo lo que oiga y les anunciará las cosas que van a pasar.
14Él me glorificará porque tomará de lo mío y se lo dará a conocer a ustedes.
15Todo lo que tiene el Padre es mío. Por eso les dije que el Espíritu tomará de lo mío y se lo dará a conocer a ustedes.
16»Dentro de poco, ustedes ya no me verán. Pero un poco después volverán a verme».
17Algunos de sus discípulos se preguntaban unos a otros: «¿Qué quiere decir con eso de que: “dentro de poco, ustedes ya no me verán”, y “un poco después volverán a verme”, y “porque voy al Padre”?».
18Y seguían diciendo: «¿Qué quiere decir con eso de “dentro de poco”? No entendemos de qué habla».
19Jesús se dio cuenta de que querían hacerle preguntas. Por eso les dijo: ―¿Se están preguntando qué significa: “Dentro de poco ya no me verán”, y “un poco después volverán a verme”?
20La verdad es que ustedes llorarán y se llenarán de tristeza, mientras que el mundo se alegrará. Ustedes se pondrán tristes, pero luego su tristeza se convertirá en alegría.
21La mujer que va a dar a luz siente dolores porque le ha llegado su hora, pero después que nace la criatura se olvida del dolor por la alegría de haber traído un niño al mundo.
22Eso mismo les pasa a ustedes, ahora están tristes, pero cuando vuelva a verlos se alegrarán y nadie podrá quitarles esa alegría.
23Cuando llegue ese día ya no me preguntarán nada. Les aseguro que mi Padre les dará todo lo que le pidan en mi nombre.
24Hasta ahora no han pedido nada en mi nombre. Pidan y recibirán, para que su alegría sea completa.
25»Les he dicho todo esto por medio de comparaciones, pero viene la hora en que ya no usaré más comparaciones, sino que les hablaré claramente acerca de mi Padre.
26En aquel día ustedes pedirán en mi nombre. Y no digo que voy a rogar por ustedes al Padre,
27porque el Padre mismo los ama. Él los ama porque me aman y han creído que yo vengo de parte de Dios.
28Salí del Padre y vine al mundo. Ahora dejo el mundo para volver al Padre».
29Sus discípulos le dijeron: ―Ahora sí estás hablando claramente, sin usar comparaciones.
30»Ya nos damos cuenta de que sabes todas las cosas, y que no hay necesidad de que nadie te haga preguntas. Por eso creemos que saliste de Dios».
31Jesús respondió: ―¿Hasta ahora me creen?
32Ya se acerca la hora, ya ha llegado, en que ustedes huirán cada uno por su lado y a mí me dejarán solo. Pero no estoy solo, porque el Padre está conmigo.
33Yo les he dicho estas cosas para que en mí encuentren paz. En este mundo van a sufrir, pero anímense, yo he vencido al mundo.

1ESTAS cosas os he hablado, para que no os escandalicéis.
2Os echarán de las sinagogas; y aun viene la hora, cuando cualquiera que os matare, pensará que hace servicio á Dios.
3Y estas cosas os harán, porque no conocen al Padre ni á mí.
4Mas os he dicho esto, para que cuando aquella hora viniere, os acordéis que yo os lo había dicho. Esto empero no os lo dije al principio, porque yo estaba con vosotros.
5Mas ahora voy al que me envió; y ninguno de vosotros me pregunta: ¿Adónde vas?
6Antes, porque os he hablado estas cosas, tristeza ha henchido vuestro corazón.
7Empero yo os digo la verdad: Os es necesario que yo vaya: porque si yo no fuese, el Consolador no vendría á vosotros; mas si yo fuere, os le enviaré.
8Y cuando él viniere redargüirá al mundo de pecado, y de justicia, y de juicio:
9De pecado ciertamente, por cuanto no creen en mí;
10Y de justicia, por cuanto voy al Padre, y no me veréis más;
11Y de juicio, por cuanto el príncipe de este mundo es juzgado.
12Aun tengo muchas cosas que deciros, mas ahora no las podéis llevar.
13Pero cuando viniere aquel Espíritu de verdad, él os guiará á toda verdad; porque no hablará de sí mismo, sino que hablará todo lo que oyere, y os hará saber las cosas que han de venir.
14El me glorificará: porque tomará de lo mío, y os lo hará saber.
15Todo lo que tiene el Padre, mío es: por eso dije que tomará de lo mío, y os lo hará saber.
16Un poquito, y no me veréis; y otra vez un poquito, y me veréis: porque yo voy al Padre.
17Entonces dijeron algunos de sus discípulos unos á otros: ¿Qué es esto que nos dice: Un poquito, y no me veréis; y otra vez un poquito, y me veréis: y, porque yo voy al Padre?
18Decían pues: ¿Qué es esto que dice: Un poquito? No entendemos lo que habla.
19Y conoció Jesús que le querían preguntar, y díjoles: ¿Preguntáis entre vosotros de esto que dije: Un poquito, y no me veréis, y otra vez un poquito, y me veréis?
20De cierto, de cierto os digo, que vosotros lloraréis y lamentaréis, y el mundo se alegrará: empero aunque vosotros estaréis tristes, vuestra tristeza se tornará en gozo.
21La mujer cuando pare, tiene dolor, porque es venida su hora; mas después que ha parido un niño, ya no se acuerda de la angustia, por el gozo de que haya nacido un hombre en el mundo.
22También, pues, vosotros ahora ciertamente tenéis tristeza; mas otra vez os veré, y se gozará vuestro corazón, y nadie quitará de vosotros vuestro gozo.
23Y aquel día no me preguntaréis nada. De cierto, de cierto os digo, que todo cuanto pidiereis al Padre en mi nombre, os lo dará.
24Hasta ahora nada habéis pedido en mi nombre: pedid, y recibiréis, para que vuestro gozo sea cumplido.
25Estas cosas os he hablado en proverbios: la hora viene cuando ya no os hablaré por proverbios, pero claramente os anunciaré del Padre.
26Aquel día pediréis en mi nombre: y no os digo, que yo rogaré al Padre por vosotros;
27Pues el mismo Padre os ama, porque vosotros me amasteis, y habéis creído que yo salí de Dios.
28Salí del Padre, y he venido al mundo: otra vez dejo el mundo, y voy al Padre.
29Dícenle sus discípulos: He aquí, ahora hablas claramente, y ningún proverbio dices.
30Ahora entendemos que sabes todas las cosas, y no necesitas que nadie te pregunte: en esto creemos que has salido de Dios.
31Respondióles Jesús: ¿Ahora creéis?
32He aquí, la hora viene, y ha venido, que seréis esparcidos cada uno por su parte, y me dejaréis solo: mas no estoy solo, porque el Padre está conmigo.
33Estas cosas os he hablado, para que en mí tengáis paz. En el mundo tendréis aflicción: mas confiad, yo he vencido al mundo.

1These things have I spoken unto you, that ye should not be offended.
2They shall put you out of the synagogues: yea, the time cometh, that whosoever killeth you will think that he doeth God service.
3And these things will they do unto you, because they have not known the Father, nor me.
4But these things have I told you, that when the time shall come, ye may remember that I told you of them. And these things I said not unto you at the beginning, because I was with you.
5But now I go my way to him that sent me; and none of you asketh me, Whither goest thou?
6But because I have said these things unto you, sorrow hath filled your heart.
7Nevertheless I tell you the truth; It is expedient for you that I go away: for if I go not away, the Comforter will not come unto you; but if I depart, I will send him unto you.
8And when he is come, he will reprove the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment:
9Of sin, because they believe not on me;
10Of righteousness, because I go to my Father, and ye see me no more;
11Of judgment, because the prince of this world is judged.
12I have yet many things to say unto you, but ye cannot bear them now.
13Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come.
14He shall glorify me: for he shall receive of mine, and shall shew it unto you.
15All things that the Father hath are mine: therefore said I, that he shall take of mine, and shall shew it unto you.
16A little while, and ye shall not see me: and again, a little while, and ye shall see me, because I go to the Father.
17Then said some of his disciples among themselves, What is this that he saith unto us, A little while, and ye shall not see me: and again, a little while, and ye shall see me: and, Because I go to the Father?
18They said therefore, What is this that he saith, A little while? we cannot tell what he saith.
19Now Jesus knew that they were desirous to ask him, and said unto them, Do ye enquire among yourselves of that I said, A little while, and ye shall not see me: and again, a little while, and ye shall see me?
20Verily, verily, I say unto you, That ye shall weep and lament, but the world shall rejoice: and ye shall be sorrowful, but your sorrow shall be turned into joy.
21A woman when she is in travail hath sorrow, because her hour is come: but as soon as she is delivered of the child, she remembereth no more the anguish, for joy that a man is born into the world.
22And ye now therefore have sorrow: but I will see you again, and your heart shall rejoice, and your joy no man taketh from you.
23And in that day ye shall ask me nothing. Verily, verily, I say unto you, Whatsoever ye shall ask the Father in my name, he will give it you.
24Hitherto have ye asked nothing in my name: ask, and ye shall receive, that your joy may be full.
25These things have I spoken unto you in proverbs: but the time cometh, when I shall no more speak unto you in proverbs, but I shall shew you plainly of the Father.
26At that day ye shall ask in my name: and I say not unto you, that I will pray the Father for you:
27For the Father himself loveth you, because ye have loved me, and have believed that I came out from God.
28I came forth from the Father, and am come into the world: again, I leave the world, and go to the Father.
29His disciples said unto him, Lo, now speakest thou plainly, and speakest no proverb.
30Now are we sure that thou knowest all things, and needest not that any man should ask thee: by this we believe that thou camest forth from God.
31Jesus answered them, Do ye now believe?
32Behold, the hour cometh, yea, is now come, that ye shall be scattered, every man to his own, and shall leave me alone: and yet I am not alone, because the Father is with me.
33These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.
World English Bible
1“I have said these things to you so that you wouldn’t be caused to stumble.
2They will put you out of the synagogues. Yes, the time is coming that whoever kills you will think that he offers service to God.
3They will do these things because they have not known the Father nor me.
4But I have told you these things so that when the time comes, you may remember that I told you about them. I didn’t tell you these things from the beginning, because I was with you.
5But now I am going to him who sent me, and none of you asks me, ‘Where are you going?’
6But because I have told you these things, sorrow has filled your heart.
7Nevertheless I tell you the truth: It is to your advantage that I go away; for if I don’t go away, the Counselor won’t come to you. But if I go, I will send him to you.
8When he has come, he will convict the world about sin, about righteousness, and about judgment;
9about sin, because they don’t believe in me;
10about righteousness, because I am going to my Father, and you won’t see me any more;
11about judgment, because the prince of this world has been judged.
12“I still have many things to tell you, but you can’t bear them now.
13However, when he, the Spirit of truth, has come, he will guide you into all truth, for he will not speak from himself; but whatever he hears, he will speak. He will declare to you things that are coming.
14He will glorify me, for he will take from what is mine and will declare it to you.
15All things that the Father has are mine; therefore I said that he takes of mine and will declare it to you.
16“A little while, and you will not see me. Again a little while, and you will see me.”
17Some of his disciples therefore said to one another, “What is this that he says to us, ‘A little while, and you won’t see me, and again a little while, and you will see me;’ and, ‘Because I go to the Father’?”
18They said therefore, “What is this that he says, ‘A little while’? We don’t know what he is saying.”
19Therefore Jesus perceived that they wanted to ask him, and he said to them, “Do you inquire among yourselves concerning this, that I said, ‘A little while, and you won’t see me, and again a little while, and you will see me’?
20Most certainly I tell you that you will weep and lament, but the world will rejoice. You will be sorrowful, but your sorrow will be turned into joy.
21A woman, when she gives birth, has sorrow because her time has come. But when she has delivered the child, she doesn’t remember the anguish any more, for the joy that a human being is born into the world.
22Therefore you now have sorrow, but I will see you again, and your heart will rejoice, and no one will take your joy away from you.
23“In that day you will ask me no questions. Most certainly I tell you, whatever you may ask of the Father in my name, he will give it to you.
24Until now, you have asked nothing in my name. Ask, and you will receive, that your joy may be made full.
25“I have spoken these things to you in figures of speech. But the time is coming when I will no more speak to you in figures of speech, but will tell you plainly about the Father.
26In that day you will ask in my name; and I don’t say to you that I will pray to the Father for you,
27for the Father himself loves you, because you have loved me, and have believed that I came from God.
28I came from the Father and have come into the world. Again, I leave the world and go to the Father.”
29His disciples said to him, “Behold, now you are speaking plainly, and using no figures of speech.
30Now we know that you know all things, and don’t need for anyone to question you. By this we believe that you came from God.”
31Jesus answered them, “Do you now believe?
32Behold, the time is coming, yes, and has now come, that you will be scattered, everyone to his own place, and you will leave me alone. Yet I am not alone, because the Father is with me.
33I have told you these things, that in me you may have peace. In the world you have trouble; but cheer up! I have overcome the world.”
