1Al terminar de orar, Jesús salió con sus discípulos y cruzó el arroyo de Cedrón. Al otro lado había un huerto al cual entraron.
2Judas, el que lo traicionaba, también conocía el lugar, porque Jesús había estado reunido allí muchas veces con sus discípulos.
3Así que Judas llegó al huerto, al frente de una tropa de soldados y guardias de los jefes de los sacerdotes y de los fariseos. Iban armados y llevaban antorchas y lámparas.
4Jesús, que ya sabía lo que le iba a pasar, les salió al encuentro. Les preguntó: ―¿A quién buscan?
5Ellos contestaron: ―A Jesús de Nazaret. ―Yo soy. Judas, el que lo traicionaba, estaba con ellos.
6Cuando Jesús les dijo: «Yo soy», cayeron de espaldas al suelo.
7Jesús volvió a preguntarles: ―¿A quién buscan? Ellos contestaron: ―A Jesús de Nazaret.
8Jesús dijo: ―Ya les dije que soy yo. Si me buscan a mí, dejen que estos se vayan.
9Esto sucedió para que se cumpliera lo que él había dicho: «Ninguno de los que me diste se perdió».
10Simón Pedro sacó una espada que traía y le cortó la oreja derecha a Malco, que era criado del sumo sacerdote.
11Jesús le ordenó a Pedro: ―¡Guarda esa espada en su funda! Si mi Padre me da a beber un trago amargo, ¿acaso no lo voy a beber?
12Entonces los soldados, con su comandante, y los guardias de los judíos, arrestaron a Jesús y lo ataron.
13Lo llevaron primero ante Anás, que era suegro de Caifás, el sumo sacerdote ese año.
14Caifás era el que había aconsejado a los judíos que era mejor que muriera un solo hombre por el pueblo.
15Simón Pedro y otro discípulo seguían a Jesús. Como al otro discípulo lo conocía el sumo sacerdote, entró con Jesús en el patio del sumo sacerdote.
16Pero Pedro tuvo que quedarse afuera, junto a la puerta. El discípulo al que conocía el sumo sacerdote, salió y habló con la portera y consiguió que Pedro entrara.
17La portera le preguntó: ―¿No eres tú uno de los discípulos de ese hombre? Pedro contestó: ―No lo soy.
18Como hacía frío, los criados y los guardias habían hecho una fogata para calentarse. Todos estaban de pie alrededor de la fogata, y Pedro también estaba con ellos calentándose.
19Mientras tanto, el sumo sacerdote empezó a preguntarle a Jesús acerca de sus discípulos y de sus enseñanzas.
20Jesús le respondió: ―Yo he hablado delante de todo el mundo. Siempre he enseñado en las sinagogas o en el templo, donde se reúnen todos los judíos. No he dicho nada en secreto.
21¿Por qué me preguntas a mí? Pregunta a los que me han oído hablar. Ellos saben lo que dije.
22Cuando Jesús dijo esto, uno de los guardias que estaba allí cerca le dio una bofetada y le dijo: ―¿Así le contestas al sumo sacerdote?
23Jesús respondió: ―Si he dicho algo malo, dime qué fue. Pero si lo que dije está bien, ¿por qué me pegas?
24Entonces Anás lo envió atado ante el sumo sacerdote Caifás.
25Mientras tanto, Simón Pedro seguía de pie, calentándose. Le preguntaron: ―¿No eres tú uno de sus discípulos? Pedro, negándolo, dijo: ―No lo soy.
26Uno de los criados del sumo sacerdote, que era pariente de aquel al que Pedro le había cortado la oreja, le preguntó: ―¿No te vi con él en el huerto?
27Pedro lo negó una vez más y en ese momento el gallo cantó.
28Luego los judíos llevaron a Jesús de la casa de Caifás al palacio del gobernador romano. Como ya amanecía, los judíos no entraron al palacio, pues si lo hacían se contaminarían de acuerdo con sus ritos y no podrían comer la Pascua.
29Por eso Pilato salió a preguntarles: ―¿De qué acusan a este hombre?
30Ellos contestaron: ―Si no fuera un criminal, no te lo habríamos traído.
31Pilato les dijo: ―Pues llévenselo ustedes y júzguenlo de acuerdo con su propia ley. Los judíos le respondieron: ―Nosotros no tenemos ninguna autoridad para dar muerte a nadie.
32Esto sucedió para que se cumpliera lo que Jesús había dicho, en cuanto a la forma en que iba a morir.
33Pilato volvió a entrar al palacio y llamó a Jesús. Le preguntó: ―¿Eres tú el rey de los judíos?
34Jesús le respondió: ―¿Dices eso por tu propia cuenta o es que otros te han hablado de mí?
35Pilato le contestó: ―¿Acaso soy judío? Fue tu propio pueblo y los jefes de los sacerdotes los que te entregaron a mí. ¿Qué hiciste?
36Jesús contestó: ―Mi reino no es de este mundo. Si lo fuera, mis servidores pelearían para que no me entregaran a los judíos. Pero mi reino no es de este mundo.
37Pilato le dijo: ―Entonces eres rey. Jesús le respondió: ―Tú eres el que dices que soy rey. Yo para esto nací y vine al mundo: para hablar de la verdad. Todo el que está de parte de la verdad, me escucha.
38Pilato preguntó: ―¿Y qué es la verdad? Luego de decir esto, salió otra vez a ver a los judíos. Él dijo: ―Yo no encuentro a este culpable de nada.
39Pero como ustedes tienen la costumbre de que yo libere a un preso durante la Pascua, ¿quieren que libere al “rey de los judíos”?
40Ellos volvieron a gritar: ―¡No! ¡No sueltes a este, suelta a Barrabás! Y Barrabás era un bandido.

1COMO Jesús hubo dicho estas cosas, salióse con sus discípulos tras el arroyo de Cedrón, donde estaba un huerto, en el cual entró Jesús y sus discípulos.
2Y también Judas, el que le entregaba, sabía aquel lugar; porque muchas veces Jesús se juntaba allí con sus discípulos.
3Judas pues tomando una compañía, y ministros de los pontífices y de los Fariseos, vino allí con linternas y antorchas, y con armas.
4Empero Jesús, sabiendo todas las cosas que habían de venir sobre él, salió delante, y díjoles: ¿A quién buscáis?
5Respondiéronle: A Jesús Nazareno. Díceles Jesús: Yo soy. (Y estaba también con ellos Judas, el que le entregaba.)
6Y como les dijo, Yo soy, volvieron atrás, y cayeron en tierra.
7Volvióles, pues, á preguntar: ¿A quién buscáis? Y ellos dijeron: A Jesús Nazareno.
8Respondió Jesús: Os he dicho que yo soy: pues si á mí buscáis, dejad ir á éstos.
9Para que se cumpliese la palabra que había dicho: De los que me diste, ninguno de ellos perdí.
10Entonces Simón Pedro, que tenía espada, sacóla, é hirió al siervo del pontífice, y le cortó la oreja derecha. Y el siervo se llamaba Malco.
11Jesús entonces dijo á Pedro: Mete tu espada en la vaina: el vaso que el Padre me ha dado, ¿no lo tengo de beber?
12Entonces la compañía y el tribuno, y los ministros de los Judíos, prendieron á Jesús y le ataron,
13Y lleváronle primeramente á Anás; porque era suegro de Caifás, el cual era pontífice de aquel año.
14Y era Caifás el que había dado el consejo á los Judíos, que era necesario que un hombre muriese por el pueblo.
15Y seguía á Jesús Simón Pedro, y otro discípulo. Y aquel discípulo era conocido del pontífice, y entró con Jesús al atrio del pontífice;
16Mas Pedro estaba fuera á la puerta. Y salió aquel discípulo que era conocido del pontífice, y habló á la portera, y metió dentro á Pedro.
17Entonces la criada portera dijo á Pedro: ¿No eres tú también de los discípulos de este hombre? Dice él: No soy.
18Y estaban en pie los siervos y los ministros que habían allegado las ascuas; porque hacía frío, y calentábanse: y estaba también con ellos Pedro en pie, calentándose.
19Y el pontífice preguntó á Jesús acerca de sus discípulos y de su doctrina.
20Jesús le respondió: Yo manifiestamente he hablado al mundo: yo siempre he enseñado en la sinagoga y en el templo, donde se juntan todos los Judíos, y nada he hablado en oculto.
21¿Qué me preguntas á mí? Pregunta á los que han oído, qué les haya yo hablado: he aquí, ésos saben lo que yo he dicho.
22Y como él hubo dicho esto, uno de los criados que estaba allí, dió una bofetada á Jesús, diciendo: ¿Así respondes al pontífice?
23Respondióle Jesús: Si he hablado mal, da testimonio del mal: y si bien, ¿por qué me hieres?
24Y Anás le había enviado atado á Caifás pontífice.
25Estaba pues Pedro en pie calentándose. Y dijéronle: ¿No eres tú de sus discípulos? El negó, y dijo: No soy.
26Uno de los siervos del pontífice, pariente de aquél á quien Pedro había cortado la oreja, le dice: ¿No te vi yo en el huerto con él?
27Y negó Pedro otra vez: y luego el gallo cantó.
28Y llevaron á Jesús de Caifás al pretorio: y era por la mañana: y ellos no entraron en el pretorio por no ser contaminados, sino que comiesen la pascua.
29Entonces salió Pilato á ellos fuera, y dijo: ¿Qué acusación traéis contra este hombre?
30Respondieron y dijéronle: Si éste no fuera malhechor, no te le habríamos entregado.
31Díceles entonces Pilato: Tomadle vosotros, y juzgadle según vuestra ley. Y los Judíos le dijeron: A nosotros no es lícito matar á nadie:
32Para que se cumpliese el dicho de Jesús, que había dicho, dando á entender de qué muerte había de morir.
33Así que, Pilato volvió á entrar en el pretorio, y llamó á Jesús, y díjole: ¿Eres tú el Rey de los Judíos?
34Respondióle Jesús: ¿Dices tú esto de ti mismo, ó te lo han dicho otros de mí?
35Pilato respondió: ¿Soy yo Judío? Tu gente, y los pontífices, te han entregado á mí: ¿qué has hecho?
36Respondió Jesús: Mi reino no es de este mundo: si de este mundo fuera mi reino, mis servidores pelearían para que yo no fuera entregado á los Judíos: ahora, pues, mi reino no es de aquí.
37Díjole entonces Pilato: ¿Luego rey eres tú? Respondió Jesús: Tú dices que yo soy rey. Yo para esto he nacido, y para esto he venido al mundo, para dar testimonio á la verdad. Todo aquél que es de la verdad, oye mi voz.
38Dícele Pilato: ¿Qué cosa es verdad? Y como hubo dicho esto, salió otra vez á los Judíos, y díceles: Yo no hallo en él ningún crimen.
39Empero vosotros tenéis costumbre, que os suelte uno en la Pascua: ¿queréis, pues, que os suelte al Rey de los Judíos?
40Entonces todos dieron voces otra vez, diciendo: No á éste, sino á Barrabás. Y Barrabás era ladrón.

1When Jesus had spoken these words, he went forth with his disciples over the brook Cedron, where was a garden, into the which he entered, and his disciples.
2And Judas also, which betrayed him, knew the place: for Jesus ofttimes resorted thither with his disciples.
3Judas then, having received a band of men and officers from the chief priests and Pharisees, cometh thither with lanterns and torches and weapons.
4Jesus therefore, knowing all things that should come upon him, went forth, and said unto them, Whom seek ye?
5They answered him, Jesus of Nazareth. Jesus saith unto them, I am he. And Judas also, which betrayed him, stood with them.
6As soon then as he had said unto them, I am he, they went backward, and fell to the ground.
7Then asked he them again, Whom seek ye? And they said, Jesus of Nazareth.
8Jesus answered, I have told you that I am he: if therefore ye seek me, let these go their way:
9That the saying might be fulfilled, which he spake, Of them which thou gavest me have I lost none.
10Then Simon Peter having a sword drew it, and smote the high priest’s servant, and cut off his right ear. The servant’s name was Malchus.
11Then said Jesus unto Peter, Put up thy sword into the sheath: the cup which my Father hath given me, shall I not drink it?
12Then the band and the captain and officers of the Jews took Jesus, and bound him,
13And led him away to Annas first; for he was father in law to Caiaphas, which was the high priest that same year.
14Now Caiaphas was he, which gave counsel to the Jews, that it was expedient that one man should die for the people.
15And Simon Peter followed Jesus, and so did another disciple: that disciple was known unto the high priest, and went in with Jesus into the palace of the high priest.
16But Peter stood at the door without. Then went out that other disciple, which was known unto the high priest, and spake unto her that kept the door, and brought in Peter.
17Then saith the damsel that kept the door unto Peter, Art not thou also one of this man’s disciples? He saith, I am not.
18And the servants and officers stood there, who had made a fire of coals; for it was cold: and they warmed themselves: and Peter stood with them, and warmed himself.
19The high priest then asked Jesus of his disciples, and of his doctrine.
20Jesus answered him, I spake openly to the world; I ever taught in the synagogue, and in the temple, whither the Jews always resort; and in secret have I said nothing.
21Why askest thou me? ask them which heard me, what I have said unto them: behold, they know what I said.
22And when he had thus spoken, one of the officers which stood by struck Jesus with the palm of his hand, saying, Answerest thou the high priest so?
23Jesus answered him, If I have spoken evil, bear witness of the evil: but if well, why smitest thou me?
24Now Annas had sent him bound unto Caiaphas the high priest.
25And Simon Peter stood and warmed himself. They said therefore unto him, Art not thou also one of his disciples? He denied it, and said, I am not.
26One of the servants of the high priest, being his kinsman whose ear Peter cut off, saith, Did not I see thee in the garden with him?
27Peter then denied again: and immediately the cock crew.
28Then led they Jesus from Caiaphas unto the hall of judgment: and it was early; and they themselves went not into the judgment hall, lest they should be defiled; but that they might eat the passover.
29Pilate then went out unto them, and said, What accusation bring ye against this man?
30They answered and said unto him, If he were not a malefactor, we would not have delivered him up unto thee.
31Then said Pilate unto them, Take ye him, and judge him according to your law. The Jews therefore said unto him, It is not lawful for us to put any man to death:
32That the saying of Jesus might be fulfilled, which he spake, signifying what death he should die.
33Then Pilate entered into the judgment hall again, and called Jesus, and said unto him, Art thou the King of the Jews?
34Jesus answered him, Sayest thou this thing of thyself, or did others tell it thee of me?
35Pilate answered, Am I a Jew? Thine own nation and the chief priests have delivered thee unto me: what hast thou done?
36Jesus answered, My kingdom is not of this world: if my kingdom were of this world, then would my servants fight, that I should not be delivered to the Jews: but now is my kingdom not from hence.
37Pilate therefore said unto him, Art thou a king then? Jesus answered, Thou sayest that I am a king. To this end was I born, and for this cause came I into the world, that I should bear witness unto the truth. Every one that is of the truth heareth my voice.
38Pilate saith unto him, What is truth? And when he had said this, he went out again unto the Jews, and saith unto them, I find in him no fault at all.
39But ye have a custom, that I should release unto you one at the passover: will ye therefore that I release unto you the King of the Jews?
40Then cried they all again, saying, Not this man, but Barabbas. Now Barabbas was a robber.

1When Jesus had spoken these words, he went out with his disciples over the brook Kidron, where there was a garden, into which he and his disciples entered.
2Now Judas, who betrayed him, also knew the place, for Jesus often met there with his disciples.
3Judas then, having taken a detachment of soldiers and officers from the chief priests and the Pharisees, came there with lanterns, torches, and weapons.
4Jesus therefore, knowing all the things that were happening to him, went out and said to them, “Who are you looking for?”
5They answered him, “Jesus of Nazareth.” Jesus said to them, “I am he.” Judas also, who betrayed him, was standing with them.
6When therefore he said to them, “I am he,” they went backward and fell to the ground.
7Again therefore he asked them, “Who are you looking for?” They said, “Jesus of Nazareth.”
8Jesus answered, “I told you that I am he. If therefore you seek me, let these go their way,”
9that the word might be fulfilled which he spoke, “Of those whom you have given me, I have lost none.”
10Simon Peter therefore, having a sword, drew it, struck the high priest’s servant, and cut off his right ear. The servant’s name was Malchus.
11Jesus therefore said to Peter, “Put the sword into its sheath. The cup which the Father has given me, shall I not surely drink it?”
12So the detachment, the commanding officer, and the officers of the Jews seized Jesus and bound him,
13and led him to Annas first, for he was father-in-law to Caiaphas, who was high priest that year.
14Now it was Caiaphas who advised the Jews that it was expedient that one man should perish for the people.
15Simon Peter followed Jesus, as did another disciple. Now that disciple was known to the high priest, and entered in with Jesus into the court of the high priest;
16but Peter was standing at the door outside. So the other disciple, who was known to the high priest, went out and spoke to her who kept the door, and brought in Peter.
17Then the maid who kept the door said to Peter, “Are you also one of this man’s disciples?” He said, “I am not.”
18Now the servants and the officers were standing there, having made a fire of coals, for it was cold. They were warming themselves. Peter was with them, standing and warming himself.
19The high priest therefore asked Jesus about his disciples and about his teaching.
20Jesus answered him, “I spoke openly to the world. I always taught in synagogues and in the temple, where the Jews always meet. I said nothing in secret.
21Why do you ask me? Ask those who have heard me what I said to them. Behold, they know the things which I said.”
22When he had said this, one of the officers standing by slapped Jesus with his hand, saying, “Do you answer the high priest like that?”
23Jesus answered him, “If I have spoken evil, testify of the evil; but if well, why do you beat me?”
24Annas sent him bound to Caiaphas, the high priest.
25Now Simon Peter was standing and warming himself. They said therefore to him, “You aren’t also one of his disciples, are you?” He denied it and said, “I am not.”
26One of the servants of the high priest, being a relative of him whose ear Peter had cut off, said, “Didn’t I see you in the garden with him?”
27Peter therefore denied it again, and immediately the rooster crowed.
28They led Jesus therefore from Caiaphas into the Praetorium. It was early, and they themselves didn’t enter into the Praetorium, that they might not be defiled, but might eat the Passover.
29Pilate therefore went out to them and said, “What accusation do you bring against this man?”
30They answered him, “If this man weren’t an evildoer, we wouldn’t have delivered him up to you.”
31Pilate therefore said to them, “Take him yourselves, and judge him according to your law.” Therefore the Jews said to him, “It is illegal for us to put anyone to death,”
32that the word of Jesus might be fulfilled, which he spoke, signifying by what kind of death he should die.
33Pilate therefore entered again into the Praetorium, called Jesus, and said to him, “Are you the King of the Jews?”
34Jesus answered him, “Do you say this by yourself, or did others tell you about me?”
35Pilate answered, “I’m not a Jew, am I? Your own nation and the chief priests delivered you to me. What have you done?”
36Jesus answered, “My Kingdom is not of this world. If my Kingdom were of this world, then my servants would fight, that I wouldn’t be delivered to the Jews. But now my Kingdom is not from here.”
37Pilate therefore said to him, “Are you a king then?” Jesus answered, “You say that I am a king. For this reason I have been born, and for this reason I have come into the world, that I should testify to the truth. Everyone who is of the truth listens to my voice.”
38Pilate said to him, “What is truth?” When he had said this, he went out again to the Jews, and said to them, “I find no basis for a charge against him.
39But you have a custom that I should release someone to you at the Passover. Therefore, do you want me to release to you the King of the Jews?”
40Then they all shouted again, saying, “Not this man, but Barabbas!” Now Barabbas was a robber.
