1Entonces Pilato llevó a Jesús y mandó que lo azotaran.
2Los soldados hicieron una corona de espinas y la pusieron sobre su cabeza, y lo vistieron con una túnica de color púrpura.
3Una y otra vez iban a él y le decían: “¡Oh, Rey de los Judíos!” y lo abofeteaban.
4Pilato salió una vez más y les dijo: “Lo traeré aquí para que sepan que no lo encuentro culpable de ningún crimen”.
5Entonces Jesús salió usando la corona de espinas y la túnica de color púrpura. “Miren, aquí está el hombre”, dijo Pilato.
6Cuando el jefe de los sacerdotes y los guardias vieron a Jesús, gritaron: “¡Crucifícale! ¡Crucifícale!” “Llévenselo ustedes y crucifíquenlo”, respondió Pilato. “Yo no le hallo culpable”.
7Los líderes judíos respondieron: “Tenemos una ley, y de acuerdo a esa ley, él debe morir porque se proclamó a sí mismo como el Hijo de Dios”.
8Cuando Pilato escuchó esto, tuvo más temor que nunca antes
9y regresó al palacio del gobernador. Pilato le preguntó a Jesús, “¿De dónde vienes?” Pero Jesús no respondió.
10“¿Estás negándote a hablarme?” le dijo Pilato. “¿No te das cuenta de que tengo el poder para liberarte o crucificarte?”
11“Tú no tendrías ningún poder a menos que se te conceda desde arriba”, le respondió Jesús. “Así que el que me entregó en tus manos es culpable de mayor pecado”.
12Cuando Pilato escuchó esto, trató de liberar a Jesús, pero los líderes judíos gritaban: “Si liberas a este hombre, no eres amigo del César. Cualquiera que se proclama a sí mismo como rey, se rebela contra el César”.
13Cuando Pilato escuchó esto, trajo a Jesús afuera y se sentó en el tribunal, en un lugar que se llamaba El Enlosado (“Gabata” en Hebreo).
14Era casi la tarde del día de preparación para la Pascua. “Miren, aquí tienen a su rey”, le dijo a los judíos.
15“¡Mátalo! ¡Mátalo! ¡Crucifícalo!” gritaban ellos. “¿Quieren que crucifique a su rey?” preguntó Pilato. “El único rey que tenemos es el César”, respondieron los jefes de los sacerdotes.
16Entonces Pilato les entregó a Jesús para que lo crucificaran.
17Ellos condujeron a Jesús fuera de allí, cargando él su propia cruz, y se dirigió al lugar llamado “La Calavera”, (Gólgota en hebreo).
18Lo crucificaron allí, y a otros dos con él: uno a cada lado, poniendo a Jesús en medio de ellos.
19Pilato mandó a poner un letrero en la cruz que decía: “Jesús de Nazaret, el Rey de los Judíos”.
20Muchas personas leyeron el letrero porque el lugar donde Jesús fue crucificado estaba cerca de la ciudad, y estaba escrito en hebreo, latín y griego.
21Entonces los jefes de los sacerdotes se acercaron a Pilato y le dijeron “No escribas ‘el Rey de los Judíos,’ sino ‘Este hombre decía: Yo soy el Rey de los Judíos’”.
22Pilato respondió: “Lo que escribí, ya está escrito”.
23Cuando los soldados hubieron crucificado a Jesús, tomaron sus ropas y las dividieron en cuatro partes a fin de que cada soldado tuviera una. También estaba allí su túnica hecha sin costuras, tejida en una sola pieza.
24Entonces ellos se dijeron unos a otros: “No la botemos, sino decidamos quién se quedará con ella lanzando un dado”. Esto cumplía la Escritura que dice: “Dividieron mis vestidos entre ellos y lanzaron un dado por mis vestiduras”.
25Y así lo hicieron. Junto a la cruz estaba la madre de Jesús, la hermana de su madre, María la esposa de Cleofás y María Magdalena.
26Cuando Jesús vio a su madre, y al discípulo que él amaba junto a ella, le dijo a su madre: “Madre, este es tu hijo”.
27Luego le dijo al discípulo: “Esta es tu madre”. Desde ese momento el discípulo se la llevó a su casa.
28Jesús se dio cuenta entonces que había completado todo lo que había venido a hacer. En cumplimiento de la Escritura, dijo: “Tengo sed”.
29Y allí había una tinaja llena de vinagre de vino; así que ellos mojaron una esponja en el vinagre, la pusieron en una vara de hisopo, y la acercaron a sus labios.
30Después que bebió el vinagre, Jesús dijo: “¡Está terminado!” Entonces inclinó su cabeza y dio su último respiro.
31Era el día de la preparación, y los líderes judíos no querían dejar los cuerpos en la cruz durante el día sábado (de hecho, este era un sábado especial), así que le pidieron a Pilato que mandara a partirles las piernas para poder quitar los cuerpos.
32Entonces los soldados vinieron y partieron las piernas del primero y luego del otro, de los dos hombres crucificados con Jesús,
33pero cuando se acercaron a Jesús, vieron que ya estaba muerto, así que no le partieron sus piernas.
34Sin embargo, uno de los soldados clavó una lanza en su costado, y salió sangre mezclada con agua.
35El que vio esto dio testimonio de ello, y su testimonio es verdadero. Él está seguro de que lo que dice es verdadero a fin de que ustedes crean también.
36Ocurrió así para que se cumpliera la Escritura: “Ninguno de sus huesos será partido”,
37y como dice otra Escritura: “Ellos mirarán al que traspasaron”.
38Después de esto, José de Arimatea le preguntó a Pilato si podría bajar el cuerpo de Jesús, y Pilato le dio su permiso. José era un discípulo de Jesús, pero en secreto porque tenía miedo de los judíos. Así que José fue y se llevó el cuerpo.
39Con él estaba Nicodemo, el hombre que había visitado de noche a Jesús anteriormente. Él trajo consigo una mezcla de mirra y aloes que pesaba aproximadamente setenta y cinco libras.
40Ellos se llevaron el cuerpo de Jesús y lo envolvieron en un paño de lino junto con la mezcla de especias, conforme a la costumbre judía de sepultura. Cerca del lugar donde Jesús había sido crucificado, había un jardín;
41y en ese jardín había una tumba nueva, sin usar.
42Como era el día de la preparación y la tumba estaba cerca, ellos pusieron allí a Jesús.

1ASÍ que, entonces tomó Pilato á Jesús, y le azotó.
2Y los soldados entretejieron de espinas una corona, y pusiéronla sobre su cabeza, y le vistieron de una ropa de grana;
3Y decían: ¡Salve, Rey de los Judíos! y dábanle de bofetadas.
4Entonces Pilato salió otra vez fuera, y díjoles: He aquí, os le traigo fuera, para que entendáis que ningún crimen hallo en él.
5Y salió Jesús fuera, llevando la corona de espinas y la ropa de grana. Y díceles Pilato: He aquí el hombre.
6Y como le vieron los príncipes de los sacerdotes, y los servidores, dieron voces diciendo: Crucifícale, crucifícale. Díceles Pilato: Tomadle vosotros, y crucificadle; porque yo no hallo en él crimen.
7Respondiéronle los Judíos: Nosotros tenemos ley, y según nuestra ley debe morir, porque se hizo Hijo de Dios.
8Y como Pilato oyó esta palabra, tuvo más miedo.
9Y entró otra vez en el pretorio, y dijo á Jesús: ¿De dónde eres tú? Mas Jesús no le dió respuesta.
10Entonces dícele Pilato: ¿A mí no me hablas? ¿no sabes que tengo potestad para crucificarte, y que tengo potestad para soltarte?
11Respondió Jesús: Ninguna potestad tendrías contra mí, si no te fuese dado de arriba: por tanto, el que á ti me ha entregado, mayor pecado tiene.
12Desde entonces procuraba Pilato soltarle; mas los Judíos daban voces, diciendo: Si á éste sueltas, no eres amigo de César: cualquiera que se hace rey, á César contradice.
13Entonces Pilato, oyendo este dicho, llevó fuera á Jesús, y se sentó en el tribunal en el lugar que se dice Lithóstrotos, y en hebreo Gabbatha.
14Y era la víspera de la Pascua, y como la hora de sexta. Entonces dijo á los Judíos: He aquí vuestro Rey.
15Mas ellos dieron voces: Quita, quita, crucifícale. Díceles Pilato: ¿A vuestro Rey he de crucificar? Respondieron los pontífices: No tenemos rey sino á César.
16Así que entonces lo entregó á ellos para que fuese crucificado. Y tomaron á Jesús, y le llevaron.
17Y llevando su cruz, salió al lugar que se dice de la Calavera, y en hebreo, Gólgotha;
18Donde le crucificaron, y con él otros dos, uno á cada lado, y Jesús en medio.
19Y escribió también Pilato un título, que puso encima de la cruz. Y el escrito era: JESUS NAZARENO, REY DE LOS JUDIOS.
20Y muchos de los Judíos leyeron este título: porque el lugar donde estaba crucificado Jesús era cerca de la ciudad: y estaba escrito en hebreo, en griego, y en latín.
21Y decían á Pilato los pontífices de los Judíos: No escribas, Rey de los Judíos: sino, que él dijo: Rey soy de los Judíos.
22Respondió Pilato: Lo que he escrito, he escrito.
23Y como los soldados hubieron crucificado á Jesús, tomaron sus vestidos, é hicieron cuatro partes (para cada soldado una parte); y la túnica; mas la túnica era sin costura, toda tejida desde arriba.
24Y dijeron entre ellos: No la partamos, sino echemos suertes sobre ella, de quién será; para que se cumpliese la Escritura, que dice: Partieron para sí mis vestidos, y sobre mi vestidura echaron suertes. Y los soldados hicieron esto.
25Y estaban junto á la cruz de Jesús su madre, y la hermana de su madre, María mujer de Cleofas, y María Magdalena.
26Y como vió Jesús á la madre, y al discípulo que él amaba, que estaba presente, dice á su madre: Mujer, he ahí tu hijo.
27Después dice al discípulo: He ahí tu madre. Y desde aquella hora el discípulo la recibió consigo.
28Después de esto, sabiendo Jesús que todas las cosas eran ya cumplidas, para que la Escritura se cumpliese, dijo: Sed tengo.
29Y estaba allí un vaso lleno de vinagre: entonces ellos hinchieron una esponja de vinagre, y rodeada á un hisopo, se la llegaron á la boca.
30Y como Jesús tomó el vinagre, dijo: Consumado es. Y habiendo inclinado la cabeza, dió el espíritu.
31Entonces los Judíos, por cuanto era la víspera de la Pascua, para que los cuerpos no quedasen en la cruz en el sábado, pues era el gran día del sábado, rogaron á Pilato que se les quebrasen las piernas, y fuesen quitados.
32Y vinieron los soldados, y quebraron las piernas al primero, y asimismo al otro que había sido crucificado con él.
33Mas cuando vinieron á Jesús, como le vieron ya muerto, no le quebraron las piernas:
34Empero uno de los soldados le abrió el costado con una lanza, y luego salió sangre y agua.
35Y el que lo vió, da testimonio, y su testimonio es verdadero: y él sabe que dice verdad, para que vosotros también creáis.
36Porque estas cosas fueron hechas para que se cumpliese la Escritura: Hueso no quebrantaréis de él.
37Y también otra Escritura dice: Mirarán al que traspasaron.
38Después de estas cosas, José de Arimatea, el cual era discípulo de Jesús, mas secreto por miedo de los Judíos, rogó á Pilato que pudiera quitar el cuerpo de Jesús: y permitióselo Pilato. Entonces vino, y quitó el cuerpo de Jesús.
39Y vino también Nicodemo, el que antes había venido á Jesús de noche, trayendo un compuesto de mirra y de áloes, como cien libras.
40Tomaron pues el cuerpo de Jesús, y envolviéronlo en lienzos con especias, como es costumbre de los Judíos sepultar.
41Y en aquel lugar donde había sido crucificado, había un huerto; y en el huerto un sepulcro nuevo, en el cual aun no había sido puesto ninguno.
42Allí, pues, por causa de la víspera de la Pascua de los Judíos, porque aquel sepulcro estaba cerca, pusieron á Jesús.

1Then Pilate therefore took Jesus, and scourged him.
2And the soldiers platted a crown of thorns, and put it on his head, and they put on him a purple robe,
3And said, Hail, King of the Jews! and they smote him with their hands.
4Pilate therefore went forth again, and saith unto them, Behold, I bring him forth to you, that ye may know that I find no fault in him.
5Then came Jesus forth, wearing the crown of thorns, and the purple robe. And Pilate saith unto them, Behold the man!
6When the chief priests therefore and officers saw him, they cried out, saying, Crucify him, crucify him. Pilate saith unto them, Take ye him, and crucify him: for I find no fault in him.
7The Jews answered him, We have a law, and by our law he ought to die, because he made himself the Son of God.
8When Pilate therefore heard that saying, he was the more afraid;
9And went again into the judgment hall, and saith unto Jesus, Whence art thou? But Jesus gave him no answer.
10Then saith Pilate unto him, Speakest thou not unto me? knowest thou not that I have power to crucify thee, and have power to release thee?
11Jesus answered, Thou couldest have no power at all against me, except it were given thee from above: therefore he that delivered me unto thee hath the greater sin.
12And from thenceforth Pilate sought to release him: but the Jews cried out, saying, If thou let this man go, thou art not Cæsar’s friend: whosoever maketh himself a king speaketh against Cæsar.
13When Pilate therefore heard that saying, he brought Jesus forth, and sat down in the judgment seat in a place that is called the Pavement, but in the Hebrew, Gabbatha.
14And it was the preparation of the passover, and about the sixth hour: and he saith unto the Jews, Behold your King!
15But they cried out, Away with him, away with him, crucify him. Pilate saith unto them, Shall I crucify your King? The chief priests answered, We have no king but Cæsar.
16Then delivered he him therefore unto them to be crucified. And they took Jesus, and led him away.
17And he bearing his cross went forth into a place called the place of a skull, which is called in the Hebrew Golgotha:
18Where they crucified him, and two other with him, on either side one, and Jesus in the midst.
19And Pilate wrote a title, and put it on the cross. And the writing was, JESUS OF NAZARETH THE KING OF THE JEWS.
20This title then read many of the Jews: for the place where Jesus was crucified was nigh to the city: and it was written in Hebrew, and Greek, and Latin.
21Then said the chief priests of the Jews to Pilate, Write not, The King of the Jews; but that he said, I am King of the Jews.
22Pilate answered, What I have written I have written.
23Then the soldiers, when they had crucified Jesus, took his garments, and made four parts, to every soldier a part; and also his coat: now the coat was without seam, woven from the top throughout.
24They said therefore among themselves, Let us not rend it, but cast lots for it, whose it shall be: that the scripture might be fulfilled, which saith, They parted my raiment among them, and for my vesture they did cast lots. These things therefore the soldiers did.
25Now there stood by the cross of Jesus his mother, and his mother’s sister, Mary the wife of Cleophas, and Mary Magdalene.
26When Jesus therefore saw his mother, and the disciple standing by, whom he loved, he saith unto his mother, Woman, behold thy son!
27Then saith he to the disciple, Behold thy mother! And from that hour that disciple took her unto his own home.
28After this, Jesus knowing that all things were now accomplished, that the scripture might be fulfilled, saith, I thirst.
29Now there was set a vessel full of vinegar: and they filled a spunge with vinegar, and put it upon hyssop, and put it to his mouth.
30When Jesus therefore had received the vinegar, he said, It is finished: and he bowed his head, and gave up the ghost.
31The Jews therefore, because it was the preparation, that the bodies should not remain upon the cross on the sabbath day, (for that sabbath day was an high day,) besought Pilate that their legs might be broken, and that they might be taken away.
32Then came the soldiers, and brake the legs of the first, and of the other which was crucified with him.
33But when they came to Jesus, and saw that he was dead already, they brake not his legs:
34But one of the soldiers with a spear pierced his side, and forthwith came there out blood and water.
35And he that saw it bare record, and his record is true: and he knoweth that he saith true, that ye might believe.
36For these things were done, that the scripture should be fulfilled, A bone of him shall not be broken.
37And again another scripture saith, They shall look on him whom they pierced.
38And after this Joseph of Arimathaea, being a disciple of Jesus, but secretly for fear of the Jews, besought Pilate that he might take away the body of Jesus: and Pilate gave him leave. He came therefore, and took the body of Jesus.
39And there came also Nicodemus, which at the first came to Jesus by night, and brought a mixture of myrrh and aloes, about an hundred pound weight.
40Then took they the body of Jesus, and wound it in linen clothes with the spices, as the manner of the Jews is to bury.
41Now in the place where he was crucified there was a garden; and in the garden a new sepulchre, wherein was never man yet laid.
42There laid they Jesus therefore because of the Jews’ preparation day; for the sepulchre was nigh at hand.

1So Pilate then took Jesus and flogged him.
2The soldiers twisted thorns into a crown and put it on his head, and dressed him in a purple garment.
3They kept saying, “Hail, King of the Jews!” and they kept slapping him.
4Then Pilate went out again, and said to them, “Behold, I bring him out to you, that you may know that I find no basis for a charge against him.”
5Jesus therefore came out, wearing the crown of thorns and the purple garment. Pilate said to them, “Behold, the man!”
6When therefore the chief priests and the officers saw him, they shouted, saying, “Crucify! Crucify!” Pilate said to them, “Take him yourselves and crucify him, for I find no basis for a charge against him.”
7The Jews answered him, “We have a law, and by our law he ought to die, because he made himself the Son of God.”
8When therefore Pilate heard this saying, he was more afraid.
9He entered into the Praetorium again, and said to Jesus, “Where are you from?” But Jesus gave him no answer.
10Pilate therefore said to him, “Aren’t you speaking to me? Don’t you know that I have power to release you and have power to crucify you?”
11Jesus answered, “You would have no power at all against me, unless it were given to you from above. Therefore he who delivered me to you has greater sin.”
12At this, Pilate was seeking to release him, but the Jews cried out, saying, “If you release this man, you aren’t Caesar’s friend! Everyone who makes himself a king speaks against Caesar!”
13When Pilate therefore heard these words, he brought Jesus out and sat down on the judgment seat at a place called “The Pavement”, but in Hebrew, “Gabbatha.”
14Now it was the Preparation Day of the Passover, at about the sixth hour. He said to the Jews, “Behold, your King!”

22Pilate answered, “What I have written, I have written.”
23Then the soldiers, when they had crucified Jesus, took his garments and made four parts, to every soldier a part; and also the tunic. Now the tunic was without seam, woven from the top throughout.
24Then they said to one another, “Let’s not tear it, but cast lots for it to decide whose it will be,” that the Scripture might be fulfilled, which says, “They parted my garments among them. They cast lots for my clothing.” Therefore the soldiers did these things.
25But standing by Jesus’ cross were his mother, his mother’s sister, Mary the wife of Clopas, and Mary Magdalene.
26Therefore when Jesus saw his mother, and the disciple whom he loved standing there, he said to his mother, “Woman, behold, your son!”
27Then he said to the disciple, “Behold, your mother!” From that hour, the disciple took her to his own home.
28After this, Jesus, seeing that all things were now finished, that the Scripture might be fulfilled, said, “I am thirsty!”
29Now a vessel full of vinegar was set there; so they put a sponge full of the vinegar on hyssop, and held it at his mouth.
30When Jesus therefore had received the vinegar, he said, “It is finished!” Then he bowed his head and gave up his spirit.
31Therefore the Jews, because it was the Preparation Day, so that the bodies wouldn’t remain on the cross on the Sabbath (for that Sabbath was a special one), asked of Pilate that their legs might be broken and that they might be taken away.
32Therefore the soldiers came and broke the legs of the first and of the other who was crucified with him;
33but when they came to Jesus and saw that he was already dead, they didn’t break his legs.
34However, one of the soldiers pierced his side with a spear, and immediately blood and water came out.
35He who has seen has testified, and his testimony is true. He knows that he tells the truth, that you may believe.
36For these things happened that the Scripture might be fulfilled, “A bone of him will not be broken.”
37Again another Scripture says, “They will look on him whom they pierced.”
38After these things, Joseph of Arimathaea, being a disciple of Jesus, but secretly for fear of the Jews, asked of Pilate that he might take away Jesus’ body. Pilate gave him permission. He came therefore and took away his body.
39Nicodemus, who at first came to Jesus by night, also came bringing a mixture of myrrh and aloes, about a hundred Roman pounds.
40So they took Jesus’ body, and bound it in linen cloths with the spices, as the custom of the Jews is to bury.
41Now in the place where he was crucified there was a garden. In the garden was a new tomb in which no man had ever yet been laid.
42Then, because of the Jews’ Preparation Day (for the tomb was near at hand), they laid Jesus there.
